I grew up in Spain smelling Esencia de Loewe and of course used it myself from the 90s onwards. Still have some left from the last bottle I bought back in the early 2000s. All who know the original formulation will know what I mean. 3 sprays before going out and you instantly fell like a god for 12+ hours, surrounded it by a large, powerful cloud of class. A truly beautiful, beastly and unforgettable scent.
Eau de Minthe is truly underrated. It’s a great everyday wear scent. Not too complex as well. Just as Diptyque usually does it. It’s got a Drakkar Noir feel but there’s so much more.
Was surprised to see Eau de minthe. I went testing a couple months back and it was one of the best things I smelled that day. I've never seen mention of it in the wild.
The 3 best smelling fragrances I've ever smelled and I believe they are aromatic forgeries are. Green Irish tweed. Cool water, and my favourite Calvin Klein crave. Got a bottle in 2002 I'd absolutely love a bottle just to smell everyday, brings back so many amazing memories 👍
Lalique L'Insoumis is a unique fragrance. My choice of a fougere-leaning frag from Floris is Elite. Any fragrance with a scent profile that is essentially a hybrid of Creed Bois du Portugal and Ralph Lauren Polo Green, which Floris Elite has, is an absolute winner. Never tried Vert Fougere. TF Beau de Jour is my favorite barbershop fougere, period. Also Penhaligon Sartorial is highly ranked in my collection as well as MDCI Invasion Barbare and Drakkar Noir.
Just ordered the Milano Cento EDT from Lucky Scent. Blind buy but on the basis of overwhelmingly positive reviews, and all the notes suit my tastes. It will be waiting for me at home in America when I visit in August. It seems to fill out a slot I want to fill after buying TdH Eau Vetiver Intense, CdG Rouge, Hermes H24, CdG Wonderwood, and La Liturgie des Heures (as well as, believe it or not, a nostalgic favorite, Woods of Windsor, which I once picked up in a chemist's in London, like 23 years ago, and loved). Also acquired three tiny vials of Mauboussin M Generation. I'd say...that's enough buying for now. I feel I have a happy "palette" now. Am particularly wild about the TdH Vetiver. Thanks so much for your influence in my newbie-journey.
Amazing list of great fougeres based fragrances. It is extremely difficult to summarise this category, as they are hundreds of perfumes under this category but loving the main notes, you could curate a solid masterpieces form several brands and times. Thanks for your great taste. For me, TF Beau de Jour, Loewe, MKF, Houbigant are my more loved now. Sartorial is also very special and it could be included too.
L'insoumis, Pasha Parfum, Zino that's similar to Baue de jour.. they all smell good and i know them .. but I recently i bought Prada amber EDT.. it's much softer than the previous .. even I can't believe it's a under the fougere class ! ..
Great List...I have Sartorial, 1725, Bracken Man, Fougere Royale, Masculin Pluriel, Scandel and Eau de Minthe. I also have Pasha de Cartier on my list. Now I have some others to try and am sure a few will find their way onto my shelves.
Definitely have to try that Diptyque! It's been years that I haven't smell Drakkar, please do the comparison video. From the list Scandal is my favorite, at first I find it meh, but I can't stop smelling my wrist, now I need a bottle... Thanks for the list Sebastian!!!
@@ThePerfumeGuy I can, but it's not perfect, I just wanna try other fragrances that are really similar and possibly better? Ive tried all of the newer popular fragrances that youtubers hype up but I don't like them, I like that fresh uplifting barber shop aftershave smell but I have no idea what to try, any suggestions? Thanks man
Great video, thanks! I am enjoying my early acquisitions tremendously, and your comments, plus other reading, on Milano Cento For Him really makes me want that one. I've "earmarked" it as "Get!"
I'm surprised you haven't mentioned MDCI "Invasion Babrbare" 🙂. A humble request to please share a detailed review on Invasion Barbare if possible. TIA
Sadly not a brand that's readily available anywhere so I don't own it. The only one I know of and own is Chypre Palatin from the brand! :) th-cam.com/video/0M75BYYphtE/w-d-xo.html
Have been looking forward to this video, awesome! Surprised with that #1, will have to check it out. Parfumo lists a 3x similarity (but also 3x thumbed down similarity though) between Diptyque Eau de Minthe and the very inexpensive Proraso Green after shave, which I have. After testing the drydown of the Diptyque in detail I'll see if I add a thumb up or down there. Also surprised that Sartorial was left off, that Fougere Royale ended up so low, and that Beau de Jour ended up so high. Just a couple of days ago I smelled BdJ again, thankfully the lockdown has relaxed a bit here in Germany. I'm not so sure I'd want to buy BdJ actually. I have Davidoff Zino already (even a backup bottle,) and Zino with such a low price has such a great, aromatic fresh, and lasting drydown on its own after all, which is quite similar to BdJ's. Might be blasphemy for some, but on my skin I think I might like the Zino even better. In any case, not sure I'd want to pay that huge price difference for BdJ. To BdJ drydown's credit, I find in it a subtle "rain-like" nuance/smell that is really nice and unique. I'll have to smell again Sartorial, but a second Fougere Royale is not out of the question, since my bottle is already slightly < 50%

@@ThePerfumeGuy Thanks Sebastian. I look forward to hearing on your response to it. I'm a relative newbie and blind bought it. Can't decide whether it smells dated or not!
What commercial Fougere fragrances do you know that are modern / adapted to current trends and usable for youth and casual wear? (like Sauvage Elixir, Le Male, 1725)
TF combines an amazing and gentlemanly aroma, renewed figure linked with Zino but modernised with a great performance. MFK Masculin Pluriel is a creamy and rounded lavender, not as aggressive as TF, very classy and aromatic but very weak in longevity and projection.
Chanel pour monsieur is a classic masculine chypre (citrus, oak-moss amber) platinum egoiste does fall into the fougere category, but it is closer to eternity / cool water / Git fougere territory and less classic “barbershop fougere” ✌️
Great list but my list would have the OG viking on it not the viking cologne. Creed should he ashmed of themselves releasing that garbage lol. Fougere royal and pasha de cartier parfum are on my to buy list :) -Ramsey
i dont like all the new age fragrances for men i feel like i was born too late but i have a good percentage of french in me that could be why, i dont smell any aromatic fougere scents anywhere, they are either caramely or clean and boring, i like the barbershop scents, i dont go much on the greener ones like paco rabanne but i did grow up using brut body spray, the brut edts arent as good tho
I'm trying to find sophisticated versions of my 90's/2000s GOATs. I looked up Hugo and saw it classified as an 'Aromatic-Fougere' and searched for that profile... Would you say that I'm going about it correctly? Are there any particular fragrances you would suggest for a niche Hugo 'up-grade'? (Alfred Dunhill's Desire is another upgrade I would like to find if you happen to be familiar with that!)
Not mentioning MDCI Invasion Babrbare is a fale of a century. It is way better and classy and sexy and mature and realible and long lasting and stable then f.e. Roja Scandal or Floris or other week touches

Great list, not surprised Bon Monsieur is up there, that oak moss is startling when you’re used to fragrances formulated without it
Great list as usual, though I think Xerjoff Mefisto Gentiluomo deserves a spot on this list for sure
