Paco Rabanne Pour Homme forever! Great performance even if it’s been reformulated. The honey/vanilla that pops up in the base compliments the oak moss perfectly.

In arabic clove is called (قرنفل) and carnation is (زهرة القرنفل) I.e. the flower of clove, which ties in with what you said regarding the clove-like smell of carnation.

Some scents just never go out of style and some scents, even though dated, smell so good it just doesn’t matter. I own a few of these and have others in my collection that date back to the early 1900’s. They’re fantastic!

Moustache edt is a magnificent powdery lavender and honeyed lemon fragrance. 🍯🌿🍋 The drydown is so darn nostalgic for me. One of the best designer bottles too. I'd take it 10 times out of 10 over the woody ambered edp nowadays. The way they modernized the edtc was brilliant.

I just ordered Dior Jules. I've never smelled it before but it has comparisons to Guerlain Derby, and that's good enough for a blind buy.
Oh, and Jules was released in the 1980's so its outside Sebastian's cutoff date.

Sebastian, thank you! I think the fragrances that mean the most to us are ones we experienced early in our lives. Like you, certain fragrances will always bring my dad to mind in a powerful way: Aramis, especially. Keep going with the classics. I, for one, will always be interested! Remember Zizanie, Nine Flags, Russian Leather? I could go on and on....

Bought a 2023 Version of Aramis EdT and it smelled noticeable different compared to my older Version from 2018. Less leathery/mossy and way more spicy/woody but with the same performance.

Your dad was truly an inspiration for who you became!! So wonderful when we smell fragrances that transport us back.
I loved the description of Green Water...and just before you mentioned to be unisex now....I siad to myself I can wear this as a woman...because I loooved the notes you mentioned. Anyway....I know that you stopped at 1975, but bummer! My former boss, (Im talking about 25 yeas ago) used to wear Anteaus de Chanel.....wow....I always admired how classy it smelled. Do you like Anteaus?
Best regards and again thank you for the great content!!!

My late 90s bottle of Habit Rouge EDT has lost its lemon, but it still smells amazing and has that slight animalic musk on me. I do like to spritz a decant of the modern edt sometimes with it just to add the lemon 🍋 😊
It’s funny you have switched back to the EDT, as I am thinking of getting a small bottle of the EDP finally, if I can get it in the listerine like bottle.

Great list but where is the king? Paco Rabanne Por Homme. I rock that frag once a week at least, and I have 300 plus fragrances. That and Bois Di Portugal by Creed just scream boss scent at work. The Paco even gets me compliments from girls in their 20’s, young enough to be my daughters. I consider it the very best old school fragrance. My dad and all his brothers wore that and English Leather, which is a reformulated joke of what it was in the 80’s. Paco never sold out and reformulated. It is still an eight hour beast off my skin and it just puts me in a great mood.

I think that flower and citrus opening of Floris 89 is amazing. Definitely like that in Habit Rouge but I think better and truly sparkling. I'm a bit less keen on the musky powdery drydown though and prefer Floris Special 127 (89's forerunner launched in 1890!)for that reason

I have smelled the original in the Osmotheque and it basically has almost no resemblance at all to the modern Fougère Royale. To me, the modern version is way nicer and way more easier to enjoy. The old one i remember being quite sharp / aggressive / rough around the edges

Caron Pour Homme is fairly amazing, it's interesting how it's disappearing from almost all online retailers. I was lucky enough to get a tester of 125 ml for $60 . Now the testers are going for over $100, and the only place to order it from outside of resellers is their website itself. Maybe they are going to the Chanal Antaeus route and only available directly from the manufacturer.

Is it possible for a GREAT, "10/10," classic fragrance to be considered DATED, and therefore, not suitable to be worn in PUBLIC (and yes, I know one can wear "whatever" one wants, but... I wouldn't wear "Secretions Magnifiques" to a PARTY, for example! 😲🤮😆)
Yet another example is "Grey Flannel." Recently bought it off a discounter since I'd never owned it (I was a kid during its "heyday"), and yes, that one, unfortunately, smells its AGE. 😳😕
