So sorry to say, still waiting for the 'Peace Train.' Many of us back in 1971 when this song came out believed that the 'Peace Train' was arriving in the station any day now. I'm literally crying 😭 remembering the hopes, dreams and optimism this song inspired. How could our country🇺🇸 & the 🌎world 🌍be covered in darker clouds now, more than ever before🤔 ✌️ Keep hope alive 🫶🕊️
Subsequent generations cannot know what it felt like at the time for young people. (But that’s fair: we can’t fully understand our parents either. It’s universal) Because of the global cultural and creative explosions of the sixties, there was no reason NOT to think that peace was just as POSSIBLE as any other scenario (war is over if you want it)😊 I was 18 in 1972, in the 2nd row at a small concert in Miami, having eye contact with Cat Stevens. If your heart is not closed, you may sometimes understand how it felt at the time, and how the love in this song would propel it to a generational anthem during wartime ❤
Ah, but later, Mr. Stevens decided there should be no peace at all for Salman Rushdie. Turns out he was in favor of violence if it was religiously motivated. Perhaps the lesson there is not to let false prophets fill you with unwarranted expectations. Instead of passively waiting for that peace train, you kind of have to ask yourself, what did you do all this time to lay down the tracks for it? ;-]
I don't like his religion either. I liked his music before he went to Islam. It's not him personally I like that much. I can separate the music. That's why i still call him cat.@@robertcartier5088
Cat Stevens/Yusuf sung this song beautifully at a memorial in Christchurch, New Zealand, after an Australian gunman slaughtered 51 Muslims at prayer in March 2019.
Excellent. Cat Stevens, along with America, inspired me to take up the guitar in the early 70's. I've been playing and learning ever since. I'm all in on Cat Stevens.
That is Cat on the guitar. He offers so much through his lyrics and his music. A little magic for those who listen. This song was also done through Playing for Change. It was done very well. Check out Miles from Nowhere, when you have a moment. Thank you for enjoying this lovely gentleman & his creations.
Love this song! Cat Stevens is a great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was "Tea For The Tillerman". The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Matthew & Son", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Wild World", "Oh Very Young", "Morning Has Broken", "Father & Son", "Moonshadow" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
Cat was one of those rare artists who tapped deep into the spiritual. His songs are about much more than the here and now...he definitely had his creative finger on the pulse of the eternal.
Love Love Love Love Cat Stevens. His songs bring back wonderful memories of my childhood: comfort, joy, Mom, Dad, siblings, playing in the sun-kissed streams behind our house. I miss those days immensely.
I saw him in 67 in UK with The Walker Brothers and Hendrix. Met him in London backstage in 72 when he was a superstar, lovely man with wonderful music.
Before the Peace Train there was “Friendship Train” by Gladys Knight and The Pips. The 1969 studio version is what you want. It starts with funky bass, cowbell and fuzzy guitar followed by horns and then the glorious of Gladys Knight. It is a song that will get you moving and has great message. Hit it!
One of my favourite songs, especially when he says everyone jump on the peace train, makes me shed a tear or two every time. "Remember the days of the old school yard" is another favourite, a wholesome song & relatable. Thank you.
Such a personal song to me. I spent half my life working aboard passenger trains which I started in 1980. It was this song in 1971 that started the whispers into my ear about it. love this song and reaction
Beautiful - I love watching wonderful music wash over you. It's the same joy we knew when we first heard these songs. Keep 'em coming - If you get a chance, i hope you'll react to Cat Stevens' song: How Can i Tell You There's a video live version on YT. Peace -
There was a time when Cat was #1 on the charts. Great voice, good guitar player, excellent songs. I hope you listen to more. (Us guitar players also liked the fact that we could play his stuff and sound pretty good.)
Man, this song brings back such good memories of my childhood!!! I was six years old when this song came out, and my father would play Cat Stevens albums (along with Carol King, and others in that genre) Saturday mornings while he made us bacon and eggs and pancakes...our weekly treat! I grew up hearing such great music in our house!
I remember this song as a kid playing on the car radio when my Mom would drive us to the grocery store or over to my Grandpa's house. I remember just liking the vibe so much.
Yes Cat Stevens played the acoustic. His songs are absolutely wonderful to listen to. I am glad I listened to this music in my teens. "Wild World" is a good one! but there are many more!
Mighty grateful I was just starting high school when this train arrived. Though the peace train derailed and crashed, we had hope in the 70s and it was a great era to grow up in.
Check out a fantastic LIVE version of this song from 1976. Yes, that's Cat on the acoustic guitar. He is a great singer/songwriter, and a great performer, too!
Thank you for the song, the message, and the commentary. Cat or Yusef (who I think is trying to look like you) was and is part of the solution. As are you. Songs have magic, and can change lives. Natalie Merchant's old band, 10,000 Maniacs did a fabulous cover of this song, and there is a cool video with it. Cat Stevens' song "O Caritas", mostly in Latin, is perhaps his most profound song. Pretty easy to learn too!
If you liked the punkish ferocity of this one. I would highly suggest giving their song "Gun" which is super catchy on the melodic front married to a lyric that equates the ne'erdowell protagonist's once passionately full heart, now broken and depleted by the emotional damage of an unsupportave relationship to that of a loaded weapon that has been spent and out of ammo. Despite the rather harsh implications the song's title might concern the uninitiated, the lyrical slant of writing is actually much lighter and humorous than dark and scary and does not in any manner advocate or glorify real physical violence.
Always loved this cover of it maybe better than the original. There was another video of Natalie doing this on a boat floating down a river or canal but I cannot find it so Leno will have to do! th-cam.com/video/bLRxppeaB-I/w-d-xo.html
I still remember DJ’s telling everyone to burn all of their Cat Stevens albums because he embraced the Muslim religion.. some things never seem to change 🤨
Sadly, because of his conversion and name change, he ended up on the no fly list and couldn't get a visa to visit the USA during the Iraq war after 9/11.
But no Peace Train for Salman Rushdie... in an interview on national television, Stevens advocated for the ritual murder of a British/American author just for writing a book he didn't like! A religious zealot with extremist tendencies... But he was also a brilliant songwriter! Takes all kinds, I guess! 🙄
“Morning has broken” a beautiful Cat Stevens song!
And also a beautiful church hymn.
oh yes! 🥰🥰🥰
The arrangement never fails to astound me. Genius.

Well-said. Peace to all

I'm 58 and waiting too.
I still have hope.

The kinds of songs that changed lives back when...

The. Father and Son song and video is heartfelt gift.
SHOULD be played everywhere in this war torn world of today.

My dear Cat Stevens...❤❤
He reminds me my younger days... Love his songs!
I ❤ that you shared this happy song 😊
Beautiful song🎼♥️Thank you Shawn for such a great reaction🌷✌️

YAY so just **Beautiful**
….this song captures the feelings and vibe of the country at this time so perfectly ❤️ brings me back every time I hear this ! ✌🏻☮️🇺🇸
I saw him in 67 in UK with The Walker Brothers and Hendrix. Met him in London backstage in 72 when he was a superstar, lovely man with wonderful music.
If your wondering where the peace train is. . it's heading your heart ❤️ climb a board and ride it through your Life an pick up Passengers ❤

So many great Cat Sevens songs for you yet to discover. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂 Oh, and yes, that's him playing guitar.
One of my favourite songs, especially when he says everyone jump on the peace train, makes me shed a tear or two every time. "Remember the days of the old school yard" is another favourite, a wholesome song & relatable. Thank you.
Cat Stevens will always be one of my favorites of all time, you really need to listen to Sitting, its a deep song

love this song and reaction
The first single/45 I HAD to have, and purchased with my birthday money. I was 11.
For some reason too many people aren't interested in peace .🤔 Imagine what kind of past creates people like this.
This one got more air time back then than any of his other hits. Today you tend to hear FATHER AND SON more.
Beautiful -
I love watching wonderful music wash over you. It's the same joy we knew when we first heard these songs. Keep 'em coming -
If you get a chance, i hope you'll react to Cat Stevens' song:
How Can i Tell You
There's a video live version on YT.
Peace -
My American cousins, you have to realize what a precious gem God gave you. If you fail, the world goes to chaos as is evident by poopy pants.
Wild World is my favorite Cat Stevens song, but Peace Train transcends the decades.
Same smile we had in the 70’s hearing this song, beautiful 😎
There was a time when Cat was #1 on the charts. Great voice, good guitar player, excellent songs. I hope you listen to more. (Us guitar players also liked the fact that we could play his stuff and sound pretty good.)
my favorite from him, just so dang emotional when I hear this... good stuff.

Morning Has Broken will never disappoint 🥰🥰🥰
enjoy your thoughtful reactions, Shawn -- another great song you'll no doubt enjoy with a similar theme is the O'Jays "Love Train".
This is just a lovely song by Yusuf man, good one Shawn.
He was such a phenomenal artist, so very popular, especially in the early seventies!❤🎉
“When we know better we do better!” Maya Angelou
I remember this song as a kid playing on the car radio when my Mom would drive us to the grocery store or over to my Grandpa's house. I remember just liking the vibe so much.
I think I've learned every he's made on an album years ago. His chord patterns and rhythms are so unique. Alan Davies really added a lot too.
Thats why you should do live ! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL !! PEACE !
Father and Son, Masterpiece!!
❤❤❤ Awesome rxn as always mon. Teaser and the Firecat (album) is highly listenable all the way through (hint hint).
Yes Cat Stevens played the acoustic. His songs are absolutely wonderful to listen to. I am glad I listened to this music in my teens. "Wild World" is a good one! but there are many more!
To find peace you need to look within yourself first.
Only then can you manifest the peace that surrounds you.
Don't surround yourself with yourself.
Check out this version. Yusuf / Cat Stevens - Peace Train (Live at Market Hall, South Africa)
Mighty grateful I was just starting high school when this train arrived. Though the peace train derailed and crashed, we had hope in the 70s and it was a great era to grow up in.
Such an Amazing song
What a great voice and songwriter. Highly underrated.
Cat Stevens wrote the song the first cut is the deepest made extremely popular by Rod Stewart whom had a massive hit with it
Check out a fantastic LIVE version of this song from 1976. Yes, that's Cat on the acoustic guitar. He is a great singer/songwriter, and a great performer, too!
Cat Stevens and Alun Davies played the guitars.
Cat Stevens had a lot of good tunes.
I grew up listening to Tea for the Tillerman among many other great albums mom had.

💜this!💜☮! Great thoughts and words you shared on this as well Shawn!
Classic.
Beautiful, I can't keep it in, I gotta let it out. Where do the children play?
For me "the claps" give a sound of unity.
Although quite different, the message reminds me of "People Got to be Free" by the (Young) Rascals. Highly recommended.
🥰🥰🥰
Such a profound, and deep song ❤️.
☮️💙💙💙🔥😍
❤🧡💛💚💙💜
If you like this you will like "Desiderata" by Les Crane from the year 1971 also. Great Message to humanity.
✌️
oh you got to do "WILD WORLD" please
Masterpiece🌹🎶
10,000 Maniacs do a great cover of this track.

Easily Cats best known song.
Did I miss the train? Still waiting.
This singer couldn’t find peace in this country….so he left for a better life in a different part of the world…..sad….
Did I miss the peace train. Have I been waiting at the wrong station? When is it arriving?
But no Peace Train for Salman Rushdie... in an interview on national television, Stevens advocated for the ritual murder of a British/American author just for writing a book he didn't like! Watch.... you'll get labeled a hippy communist.
Waiting on TRUMP ☮️🇺🇸🇦🇺
