Have always loved Cat Stevens. Great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his Tea For The Tillerman. Peace Train is on the album Teaser & The Firecat. All the songs on both albums are great. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
Out of the tumult of the late '60s, early seventies... Race riots, anti-war riots, college campuses in turmoil, assassinations, political upheaval, comes this quiet humble voice of hope and peace. His was a much needed voice of calm in an otherwise tumultuous time. A gift to the era.
So pretty much like we have it now. It really, I lived through all that. It was a collective desire to stop the madness. That’s what we need now. Stop all this madness.
@@flubblert All of those issues are American, back in the 60s &70s IF any of that had been reported in the UK it would have been in very broad terms and briefly .
was listening to this the other day (9/11-) …still waiting for that peace train…might as well stay optimistic what good does it do not to have hope. Beautiful song! I love Yusuf (Cat Stevens. “Where Do The Children Play?” , “Oh Very Young”, “Wild World”…such a beautiful soul you can feel it
All of us under the threat of conscription to Vietnam in the ‘60s lived and loved Cat Stevens as a godhead of peace and protest. He spoke for an entire generation. He still does.
I was asked once if I had to choose and album to listen to over and over what would I choose. Without hesitation I said "tea for the tiller man" I will never get tired of listening to cat Stevens 🎸🎶
Yusuf collaborated with illustrator Peter H. Reynolds on a beautiful children's book based on the lyrics to Peace Train published this past May. May the World unite together in Peace!
This song makes me think of my fondest wish, that everyone would see who we’re being divided by the powerful and that we all have more in common than we realise.
So many great tunes even from his last album before quit the music business because what he felt it was doing to him. A couple of great tunes from the album Izitso are Remember The Daysof The Old Schoolyard, Bonfire, And Sweet Jamaica.
I’m hearing this beautiful song again by Cat Stevens five months after you reacted to it, and I definitely needed to hear it and your reaction today. Yusef/Cat Stevens taps right into my soul. Thank you for your thoughtful reaction, Chod. I need to add it to my playlist once more.
Radio stations played a lot of this style music during the '70's. Check out "Mexico" by *James Taylor,* "One Toke Over The Line" by *Brewer & Shipley* and "So Far Away" by *Carole King.*
This was a wishful song back then and still is 40 years later. There is a live version that is also fantastic. Cat Stevens helped me through college back then!
Listen to all of Catch Bull at Four; you won't regret it in the slightest. (My attempt at a shortlist from it is seven of ten songs. XD "Angelsea" and "18th Avenue" are my two absolute favorites of his catalog.)
Absolutely one of my favorite artists. Eddy Vetter does covers of several Cat Stevens songs. Unfortunately when he was at the pinnacle of his career he suffered a life altering event and left the music industry for more than a decade.
Trouble chronicles his near year long hospitalization fighting tuberculosis. At the time 50% of those in the TB wards around were dying ...Made him question his fame ,,,,,, and redirected his life
I know you will never do this, but just in case you have a bit of extra time, you should listen to the Tea For The Tillerman album in its entirety. It is spectacular, start to end. If you'd like just a song or 2, Father & Son or On The Road To Find Out will get you to a good place.
This song, We Are The World and Marvin Gaye's, What's Going On should be required daily vitamins for all US citizens. 🙏 From someone who's been praying for peace since Cat wrote the song in a little bit before then, thank you Chod for your always heartfelt genuine reaction 💕
Ah, the Cat/Yusuf. What a fantastic singer songwriter that we all followed in the early '70's. A distinctive sound with the great support of Alun Davies' guitar and Gerry Conway's percussion. This year Cat Stevens/Yusuf has produced an audio book to this song th-cam.com/video/bPo2gcciaKA/w-d-xo.html which is well worth listening to.
If you like jazz and appreciate great composition and instrumental perfection, you need to listen to Bob James version of Farandole from his album #2 in 1975. It will blow you away! And with very few exceptions his work over the past 60 years is outstanding in its consistency. A truly remarkable musician in the jazz relm. I'd love to see your reaction.
How about a song or two by Ian Hunter? Miss Silver Dime, Rain,, You nearly Did Me In with Queen doing the backup vocals for a start! Beautiful music and another one of those great artists that gets swept under the rug! Take him out and dust him off! You'll be inspired!
Great reaction, Chod, to this beautiful song! To help you really get back to your music, you will want to try reacting to Blood Sweat and Tears, an amazing musical group that features EVERYTHING you love in a band, and in music! Pick any one of "And When I Die", "Go Down Gambling", "Hi-De-Ho", "Spinning Wheel", "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "Lucretia MacEvil"! Once you hear one you will want to react to them all!! Cheers!
Yousif Islam / Cat Stevens had stoppd playing music when he converted to Islam. He asked if it was really not allowed for Muslims to make music. He was told that it was allowed as long as the artist played without ego, the songs also had to have deeper meaning than boy / girl relationships. At the time Cat / Yousif was very active in the Peace Movement and had demonstrated against the planned first war USA and UK launched against Iraq. He started to play this song live again.
Love your reactions, especially noting instrumentations you may not get from live versions of songs. This is one reason I feel you should always hear the studio recordings first, just to get the feel and the nuances of the original intent. That being said, please go back and listen to Leon Russel's studio recording of "Song for you". The trombone at the end will make you weep!
Unrelated, but you had said something previously about wanting to see Bob Seger perform live. Here are 3 songs from 1980 - the closing song Katmandu, 1st Encore - Rock and Roll Never Forgets, which then goes into the closer Let It Rock. What you will see is that Bob is not only a great writer and singer - he is maybe even a better performer. Super high energy and he exudes joy. That's way I went to see him many times. The videos aren't the best audio but his greatness comes through Katmandu th-cam.com/video/ZvbqGubZmgo/w-d-xo.html
what a great song writer. too bad he's on a terrorist watch list. he would make some good coin doing a tour in the states. maybe that global warming alarmists Obama should host a concert on his $15mil house on the water in martha's vineyard before the sea rises. lmao his songs were the first on learned o n the the guitar , even before the beatles. great concert at William and Mary U, he's/ great song writer / very funny man also

I can't think about Tea for the Tillerman without thinking about the cult classic movie Harold & Maude.

How would that song come of that turmoil ? he`s from London.

Cat man.! Unique voice and still gets air time today. Deep cut, love it...😊
One of my favorite Cat Stevens song!
I highly recommend Cat's Father and Son. Amazing,
Agreed 👍
We need a Peace Train now......all aboard!
Not gonna lie this is in my top 2 favorite cat stevens songs. Love all your videos. You always give your honest opinion. Keep up the good work!

Cat Stevens has written several classic songs. He is a superb artist.
more than several...
on of my favorites and so needed even in this day in age!!!
Such an amazing singer songwriter! ✌❤

Peace Train brings me so much JOY! I cant help but dance when I listen !
Cat is bad ass. Even tunes that never charted
I was asked once if I had to choose and album to listen to over and over what would I choose. Without hesitation I said "tea for the tiller man" I will never get tired of listening to cat Stevens 🎸🎶
Wow, different listening with headphones vs. album with no headphones. Cat was adored in the 70's!
I was 13 the first time I heard this song. I was so hooked by the sound and the message. Cat has lots of great hits around this time.
My favorite 70’s folk/acoustic artist. Bringing me back to my childhood
this song is 70's gold
Cat Stevens and his music are pure beauty
Great song. 10,000 Maniacs has a great cover of this song.
This always makes me think of the O’Jay’s Love Train, a song I adore.
Home Free does a great cover of that song.
Ha ha me too!
i’m so glad you did this one ! thank you 🙏🦋✌🏻
This is my favorite Cat Stevens song. He has many more great songs but the lyrics to this song put it on my top of the top list,
The Wind & If I Laugh - my favourites of special Cat Stevens ❤️
listening to music is a form of meditation 🧘
Yusuf collaborated with illustrator Peter H. Reynolds on a beautiful children's book based on the lyrics to Peace Train published this past May.

CAT STEVENS ON OF THE VERY BEST ... HIS 1ST 2 ALBUMS WERE OFF THE CHARTS! GOOD CALL!
Love Cat Stevens!

This a favorite song played on MLK day celebrations
One of my go to artist's in my 20s. I loved the singer artists of the time over the heavy metal bands.
Grew up listening to Cat. Still do to this day. Great artist, great tunes
Loved cat stevens as a teen when he first came on the radio music scene. The album,Tea for the Tillerman was really pretty cool.

Back then, the Vietnam War was going on, protesting on the streets, the disillusionment of the hippie peace culture faded to anger.
Radio stations played a lot of this style music during the '70's. Check out "Mexico" by *James Taylor,* "One Toke Over The Line" by *Brewer & Shipley* and "So Far Away" by *Carole King.*
Father and Son is a MUST.
Always loved this song.
1976 imagine the time! I graduated in high school! Peace train is needed
Beautiful acoustic guitar at the end of the piece
Agree about the ending its like the train disappearing into the distance.
This was a wishful song back then and still is 40 years later. There is a live version that is also fantastic. Cat Stevens helped me through college back then!
The message is more important than ever these days. Thanks for your reaction to a favorite of mine. Keep the spirit alive.

Anything Cat Stevens
“Why must we go on hating? Why can’t we live in bliss?” Timeless and true.
Back playing drums in church. Good news. Stay close.
Cat/ Yusef has many very listenable songs. Where Do The Children Play is one of my favorites.
"Remember The Titans", nice catch!
Oh - and definitely How Can I Tell You…❤️
And 50 years later…here we are.
Great artist !

"Trouble" by Cat Stevens is phenomenal.

Try 'Oh Very Young',' Days of the Old Schoolyard', 'Moonshadow', 'Can't Keep it In', 'Longer Boats', and so many more great songs by him!!!
I sometimes wonder if Cat Stevens music got airplay to this generation, how would be received.
We were all so hopeful for peace but it doesn’t look like the peace train will be stopping here ☮️❤️🌻😎

I consider Cat Stevens to be the master of rhythm
Cat Stevens!!!😍
Need to see it live.
60's and 70's were a lot of unrest, Vietnam war, civil rights, women's rights, same battles still being fought today were being fought for in the 60's
