This is what we seniors called “blue eyed soul” back in the day.
It was written in 1955 for a movie called 'Unchained" about a prisoner who hoped his love would be waiting for him when he got out.

Righteous Brothers were crazy popular back in the day, and have REMAINED so, til this day. They may be the most watched music videos on youtube, world wide. It's great that folks like yourself are discovering the music I grew up listening to. Once you get a taste of what great talent there was back then, without computer gimmicks and computer generated instruments you'll want to hear more from that generation. Bobby just stood there in front of a live audience with just his mic and belted out a song very few singers would even attempt to do, and he did it flawlessly. You either had it, or you didn't back then and the Righteous Brothers had it. Groups played actual instruments, they didn't have computers fixing their mistakes. Concerts today have a lot going on so you don't pick up on bad vocals and poorly played instruments. You could listen to the music of that generation with your kids in the room, there was no foul mouth lyrics you had to worry about. I gave you a thumbs up for your honest reactions to a great performance.
When the late great music composer and multi-Academy Award winner Alex North wrote the beautiful melody and add to it the great and heartfelt lyrics by Hy Zaret who lived to be 100 years old (1910-2010). Together they created one of the greatest love songs ever written. It was written as the movie score for the (1955) prison film "Unchained."
We all remember the great soundtrack for the movie "2001 A Space Odyssey." The music was composed by Alex North too.
Ten years later in (1965) on the NBC "Andy Williams Show." Bobby Hatfield and the NBC Orchestra gave the world the greatest live Television performance in history. This performance solidifies it as the quintessential version of them all. The rest as they say is history.

Just need Bobby Hatfield, with his soulful buttery voice, to begin to sing "whoa my love" & you already know you're in for a ride. Enjoyed how you felt this whole performance. This song has been sung by so many since 1955 but Bobby's performance is a once in a lifetime experience. They used his recorded version it in the movie "Ghost" 25 yrs after he 1st recorded Unchained Melody. You will want to hear & react to so many of their amazing records & videos. Besides the suggestions below..ck out the bluesy recording of "I Wanna Make Love To You" with the other Righteous Brother Bill Medley singing lead. An Ed Sullivan TV show video of both of them singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". "Ebb Tide" Shindig TV show video solo by Bobby has him almost inventing notes. Bill Medley with the Blossoms doing backup were on the TV show Playboy After Dark & he sang his solo "Brown Eyed Woman" . The list goes on & on. Lucky for us 60 years later his baritone voice is still singing at age 82 but with a different Righteous Brothers partner as Bobby sadly passed away in 2003. Bill does a tribute to Bobby in his show. They are performing in Las Vegas now but also tour. Pretty hard not to enjoy the whole Righteous Brothers experience. I subscribed to your channel.

They'd had several hits before Bobby's solo of this also became a hit for them. Their harmonies are amazing but both were gifted singers individually.

Ahh... the late Bobby Hatfield. I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. I'm 74 yrs and never tire of him singing this song. RIP Bobby! We miss your beautful voice! ❤❤❤❤
