  • Historic Waimea Plantation Cottages. A fascinating interview with Mike Faye, grandson of H.P. Faye who emigrated from Norway to the island of Kauai in the 1870s to work on the King's cane operations. The Faye family has owned the plantation for more than a century and today offers the vacationer a truly unique experience. Mike Faye shares his family's century long association with Waimea Plantation and the creation of the Waimea Plantation Cottages. Nice film! I'm staying here in a couple of days to see old Waimea town where my late grandfather was born in 1913.

I miss Waimea and the Plantation very much...envious you are going to spend some time at one of Hawaii's best kept secret hideaways!

We love Waimea Plantations Cottages. We've been there on two separate occasions, and both have been the best times I've ever had in Hawaii. Mahalo!

Great historical documentary of the camp. I grew up in the camp in the early 70's til my family moved to southern California in '77. My grandfather and numerous uncles worked at the sugar plantation. This brings back a lot of memories of a quieter and gentler time, where days were spent at the beach laying down our crab traps or riding our go-cart in the little park there. The property sat on the edge of sea, so nature was always at our doorstep. Will never forget the good ol' days.

Yes I have Thomas, I was there back in February last year and in September to attend my dad's funeral. My aunt, P. Samio, was in the process of moving out of what is the last remnant of the camp as one of the last plantation families to make room for renovations of her former residence to incorporate it into the plantation resort. Was a bit sad, but I guess "progress" was bound to happen at some point.
