      Exactly it’s incredible what developers can do when they’re not put under severe time crunch for the company to make profit ASAP. Same thing has ruined many anime and that’s exactly why the most beautiful anime episodes are ones where there’s major fights and independent as well as fans join the team for animating it.

      yeah, mod makers dont (necessarily) have to crunch out multiple games at once while also working in shit conditions for a company that hates them. they have a bit more freedom to make the mods/games (im including indie devs in this) how they want to. this is how gaming should be, not AAA game overlords cutting literally all the corners down to the bone just to make every dollar the legally can (unless they decide to just do crimes, which they atleast sometimes do).
      as someone who often gets games for free, indie games are the things id actually go back and buy after playing them. AAA game companies gotta pry the money out of my optionless hands to get me to support their cruelty. (AAA studios should never make games with online features, thats just fucked up for anyone with a conscious)

    I will say, the lighting and texture upscale on the GTA trilogy is, on paper, technically better, barring any and all graphical issues. The problem for me, at least, is that while they are, technically, upscales, the more cartoon-ish designs, models and animations, along with maintaining the extremely low polycount, gives everything an extremely uncanny feeling. Like, the way the lighting "realistically" catches angles and objects to create better shadowing, and the muted color pallet and softer skin tones, at least in Vice City, gives off a more realistic vibe, but it all clashes hard when paired with the low poly, angular models and stilted, over-the-top animations.

  • @william_sun

    The biggest problem with the rain is how the rain in the distance behaves. It looks like they're moving the bars of rain relative to the screen instead of relative to the terrain (which probably explains why water is drawn over the rain), which results in rain far enough in the distance to actually rise out of the ground when you descend fast enough.

    Terminal velocity is when the deceleration due to air resistance is equal to the acceleration from earth. Everything is accelerated at the same rate and in a vacuum no maximum speed would be reached (until you factor in relativistic effects). This is not because heavy objects don't experience a stronger gravitational pull, they do, but they also have more inertia. The resistence to acceleration by inertia and the extra acceleration to to the extra weight cancel each other out. Your air resistance is tied to the size of the object (and aerodynamics and whatnot). Therefore you can reasonably say that terminal velocity is correlated with the surface area to weight ratio (which is different to density). Because of these factors terminal velocity is different for every object. The terminal velocity is lower for a feather than a human because it's lightweight therefore experiencing less gravitational acceleration and it's surface area is large therefore experiencing more air resistance.
    The same way the terminal velocity of a raindrop would be lower than that of a huge, aerodynamically shaped, water filled hunk of metal.
    But yes, the rain effect looks terrible and definitely wouldn't just stay in front of your view, although if you would look straight down there would be a point where you could actually see a stationary raindrop relative to your point of view.

None of the assets were reused for the Bluepoint REMAKE where as all of the assets were reused for the GTA Definitive addition, with added lighting and AI upscaling. They are TWO SEPARATE THINGS. The rain is especially funny because RDR2 had the best rain effects in video games ever. It's a pet-peeve of mine. Spiderman for PS4 for example has stellar graphics, but the rain looks like shit and unrealistic (still a lot better than this). Keep in mind that rain usually (probably even in RDR2) is a screen space effect, so it's almost never truly 3D, but always a 2D animated texture (or several) overlayed over your screen. What a lot of games don't get right is that rain becomes almost or even fully invisible against brighter backround, but kinda visible against a darker brackground - and it can be the other way around at night! RDR2 aces this (and so many other things).

      They'll never do single-player DLC ever again, I'm willing to bet. When it didn't happen for GTAV, that's when I knew. Why on earth would a company pour hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, into a one-time $40 story DLC package that most folks are going to play once or twice, if ever, when you can make a bunch of cheap DLC for online and convince people to spend real money for fake money? No matter how much that online DLC costs to make, there will always be dumb whales out there willing to blow their real money to show off to everyone else they play with online, just get a few folks with more money than sense and you're all set.

    I've long been a proponent for greater regulations and fines for companies that release buggy/broken games, re-releases which still have bugs (see Skyrim). I think it rather fraudulent. Fining companies that release buggy and broken games, and remakes that are below a certain standards should be the norm. We could call it the Bethesda act. Strange the amount of pushback I get for this.

      There is an argument that glitches and bugs should remain in remasters. It depends on your stance on faithfulness and preservation. I agree with your take in principle, but I don’t think it could really be enforceable. All games have at least some bugs and glitches, so you can’t do a total enforcement. So you’d have to put some threshold on it and then who gets to decide? In general though, I’m not a fan of regulating art, which I consider video games to be. granted, video games are in an odd category in that I think they both can be and cannot be “art”, depending on what how you define art.

    • @badrhetoric5637
      @badrhetoric5637 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gamingwhilebroken2355 indeed total enforcement wouldn't be feasible, there should be a threshold, rather an absolute rule. Room for "innocent mistakes". Games are complex mathematics after all, errors are bound. This is why there could be a review process before a release, not made up of governments suit's. Instead comprised of your average gamer and even programmers, coders and developers. Able to spot blatent bugs and errors that shouldn't be in a final product. This would negate the obvious lies of companies also. Its not about regulating art (which I do consider games to be, do the publishers though?), it's not like a "review board" would demand X number of hours or correct the writing. It would be purely on the technical aspects. Is this a working product? Imagine such a process before the release of a Bethesda game or Cyberpunk 2077? It would keep publishers honest AND perhaps reveal the level microtransactions or loot boxes in a game, where none have been advertised?

    The definitive edition was not developed by Rockstar but rather Grove Street Games, the same studio that ported the trilogy to android/iOS, which may explain some things. Not sure why Rockstar couldn't just do the remaster, or rather just do a remake from scratch like Mafia Definitive Edition, especially considering they haven't released a new game in 3 years.

    Those old GTA games are so horribly outdated anyways compared to modern open world games, adding some polish to them wouldn't improve them much. The gameplay just didn't really evolve much over the years, even GTA V just feels like a rehash with some new bells and whistles. Watch Dogs 2 feels like a vastly improved version of GTA V, that's what the series could have become if Rockstar wasn't afraid to innovate.

    gamers hate capitalism but don’t understand that they hate capitalism, Rock*, EA, Bethesda, and Activision are all committing anti consumer practices, denigrating the quality and objectives of the industry towards profit and away from functionality and a complete product. they also abuse their workers and force them to work overtime and then release the game early and make a controversy making the workers sweat, blood and tears worthless. gamers hate the companies behind these controversies but aren’t equipped with the vocabulary or economic/ political understanding to draw the connection between the anti consumer practices in gaming and the anti consumer nature of capitalism. i think it’s important to create that bridge between the gaming community and socialism or popular discontent against capitalism, because when gamers mobilize against something or withhold their money from a broken game, it hits companies where it hurts and forces them to make changes, kind of like a strike. it reminds me of what the “commentary” sphere was like before blm got people talking or more recently hasan and ethan uniting
