In today's video we want to show you what seemingly makes Tyler a good dresser to some, explain his style, and finally try to settle the debate if he is in fact a style icon. We're also going to highlight the other characters in this movie and go through what makes them unique or as bland as a saltless saltine. I think there’s more than just the jacket that’s wearable but most of them are statement pieces so it’s too much for many when he wears them all together

I think Tyler's clothes work so well is because they are tailored for his body, so they look so natural and comfortable especially when standing next to Narrator, who's clothes are oversized and baggy and look a father's hand-me-downs on a kid. Which all fits the movie's theme of Narrator trying to fit in (literally and figuratively) while Tyler does, says, and wears what he wants.
That’s a good interpretation of the costume design, the only thing is they’re supposed to be from thrift stores so it’s just by chance that everything fits but I totally see what you’re saying
I think the point with Tyler clothes is "he fashions every cool piece of clothing that the narrator likes but won't wear", the narrator looks like the type of guy that would see a t-shirt or a tank top and think "that's cool" but wouldn't wear it since it would be too risky but Tyler just picks it up and wears it with almost unhuman confidence
Tyler Durdan has been a fashion icon of mine for a while now.
The red jacket plus silk/viscose print shirt ‘look’ is so iconic.
The overall vintage/thrifted aesthetic was very influential for my style growing up.
Plus Brad Pitt is so effortlessly cool, he’s been a style icon of mine since I was a kid.
really cool video, im happy someone finally made such an in-depth look at his wardrobe. personally, i wish we could build a website as a tyler durden clothing database, it’s such a messy fandom so if we could all work together to build a site to show off the exact pieces, detail, comments, and screenshots of his clothing i feel like it would make things so much more organized. regardless, very nice video, i subscribed

I’m dressing like him. Seeing Fight Club for the first time was a big moment in my life and though this may not been what was intended: it served as a symbol to be myself. Tyler himself to me is all about being yourself unflinchingly, I do take heavy inspiration from him but I also do my own thing. Cowboy boots and belt, crop tops, lots of leather jackets some being red, etc. To me dressing like Tyler doesn’t mean copying him, Tyler dresses like Tyler because he is Tyler, his wardrobe is a culmination of his likes. If you wanna dress like him, dress yourself in what defines you, pay no attention to trends or color theory or anything, thrift all the pieces you want without worrying about making it work together and go home, spend 30 minutes in the mirror trying on clothes and finding the combination you love the most. Fashion is art and the best art is that which does not compromise itself for others approval. (My real name is Tyler so that’s maybe another reason he’s such an inspiration to me even though it’s in an unintended way.)
Proud of you, man. Keep it up! We should all be ourselves and f the norms that society created and taught us. Expresing and being yourself is alfa and omega of life (and definitely a happy life) in my opinion.
I don't care much for fashion, but what I will say is the mans physique makes the clothes. His style works because Brad Pitt works, he's got an incredible physique and exceptional handsome lean face and a tan. If you get a pale, skinny guy with no muscle and put him in the same clothes he'll look like shit. I think the lesson is be lean, and muscular also maybe get a tan and nice clothes will look nice.

I think obviously style is a lot more nuanced than yes or no, Tylers character wears what he wants and is not afraid to break norms. He mixes colours and wears combinations of men and womens clothing. since fashion is esssentially self expression, tylers clothes demostrate his mental state and personality very well. Im just a big fan of his clothes tbh lol but could just be cause bread pitt lmao

I read that the original was found by Kaplan and dyed to his liking but then brought to Jonathon A Logan to make the rest of the jackets for the film. That’s awesome you have so many, must’ve been dumb expensive
@Daniel Verhey lots of rumours. I've seen the original jacket it was based on and then Johnathan made changes to the design for the film. That's the version he sells. They weren't cheap no, but certainly not dumb.
I saw several of the Tyler pieces in Logan's shop & he custom made me a skirt & jacket. He is amazing.

I kinda wished he wasn't so stylish. Because that's something you'd expect from a middle aged nobody who has never really lived or allowed himself a thought of his own would come up with, something that is almost but still quite short of stylish.

I think they did it deliberately because they wanted his wardrobe to feel like a sort of chaos (which it did) to match his personality.
