Wow, what a great reaction. I can so relate. When I discovered her just 1 1/2 years ago, my first two thoughts were: 1) I was sickened that I was just discovering her, still am sickened, 2) she ZOOMED, rocketed, to the top of my favorite female singers\artists list, and has stayed there. Lara is the Orginal Gangster of concert pop. She is known as Lara 'the Ring' Fabian. She is a Sorceress... tossing out charms and spells, mesmorizing us and when sufficiently charmed (takes about 10 seconds I have found) she meddles with our emotions at will. But I refer to her mostly as "the Queen", our Queen, my Queen...long may she reign. Lara is less famous than your three, but she is much more well known than I originally thought (partially because I am in the USA). I have come to learn her adoring fans are VERY global, worldwide, internationale (probably partially due to her having sung worldwide for 30 years in, at last count, 12 languages), they are VERY dedicated, VERY much in love with her, and are too numerous to count.

Thanks for your reaction. Yes, Top 4, but if you listen more from her you chart will be modified soon enough - I can assure you that. Lara is spectacular, she is number 1 in any ways possible, vocal technique, range, beauty, expression, emotion, facial expressions, touching. Soon you will realize she's the greatest female performer of all time. Some says that at certain points her voice is similar to Celine Dion's, but I would say that Celine's voice is similar to Lara's because Lara can offer much much more in her voice. It is just that Celine is more popular in the US than Lara but this is just not justified.

"adagio" is Italian for "slow", hence this piece and classical pieces being marked "adagio". Slow movements were typically the 2nd.

She not only sang in english but she wrote this song. She sings in 12 languages and write songs in 4 (french, italian, english and spanish).
She is a star in many countries( French Canada, France, Russia anf the whole central asia, Brazil, …), but was denied access to the US market at the last minute (despite having held the #1 US Dance Billboard position for 58 weeks in a row) due to pressure from Celine Dion’s staff.
But now thru Dimash and others, and their covers, she is rediscovered in countries where she was ignored.
She still performs amazingly today, she had 5 concerts in the recent weeks and was completely stunning. She will have a tour in 18 cities in Europe starting from late September

Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
• she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish), can speak a bit of sicilian, russian and dutch, and has sung in 12 languages in total
• she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
• she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
• she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.

But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months.

Lara told that the day she recorded this song in studio, her producer (Tommy Motolla) invited 4 famous "Italian" guys: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci (I've forgotten who was the 4th).
She was impressed but she could deliver a good performance that was appreciated by these 4 guys
The gang that attended the recording was the gang of « good fellows », all friends of Tommy Mutola, Sony’s president: Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci indeed but also Ray Liotta (R.I.P.) and Danny de Vito. Al Pacino was not in this group.
Tommy wanted to get the best of her with some positive stress. And he already knew she is better with an audience to connect to.

Je ne peux qu'être d'accord avec toi: pour moi, c'est LA plus grande chanteuse de tous les temps.
1) une grande professionnelle: jamais une fausse note ou pas dans le rythme!
2) une voix d'exception: plus chaude pour moi que celle de Celine Dion que je trouve un peu trop perçante à mon goût. Beaucoup plus variée que celles de Mariah Carey ou de Whitney Houston qui ne peuvent chanter que dans un registre.
3) une interprétation hors du commun: elle est complètement engagée dans ses interprétations, ce qui lui a valu des moqueries en France
4) une capacité à chanter dans 4 langues, sans accent: j'attends d'entendre Mariah Carey chanter en Italien, Français ou Espagnol

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and was translated into a pop song for Lara. She wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash, Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, …
They made great covers but none of these match the storytelling amazing performance of Lara in this concert From Lara with Love.

Laila Majnu from the movie Aaja Nachle is a great play to react to.
She was contracted by Sony in 1997 by Sony and was planned indeed to become the 4th member of the vocal trinity with Whitney, Mariah, and Celine.
This concert was recorded to kick off her Us career.
We can debate on the vocal side, this is a titan battle and they are all very close, but Lara clearly out performs any of these on the storytelling and emotions conveying side.
What happened next? As I said, Celine Dion staff forced Sony to direct her away from the ballads to some pop dance career.
Despite immense success of her first dance song, #1 for 58 weeks in a row to the US dance charts, Lara was not ok with this inflection, broke with Sony and refocused to Europe and Central Asia.
She is recognized as one of the greatests by the greatests producers like David Foster (he clearly stated it publicly) or Igor Krutoy who said recently she is both the best singer and best songwriter he has ever worked with.

I'm quite convinced that there will be a biopic about her someday: it can't be otherwise.
