Lara is the best I’ve ever seen. I’m no pro but when a singer consistently brings me to tears just with the perfection, emotion and total performance .. well, this stuff transcends other artists efforts ... and there are many, many great artists out there. So, many colours ... Lara is top of the shelf! I’d give my right arm to be in that audience, that close to greatness.

Your comment is well taken. However, there is a real difference between her absolute technical mastery and most other popular 'great' singers'. Her control & the skill toolbox she has to choose from are enormous. Her uncanny ability to know what would be the most emotionally resonant choices at the level of phrase, word, consonant/vowel and the technical chops to carry out her decisions with utter ease - that package is what makes her unique imo.

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
    She is Dimash's idol:
I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara.
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)
    ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")
She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love".
And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara.
Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie, Ascolta la Voce),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),
    ○ Il Divo (Adagio)
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Vitas (Adagio)
    ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio),
    ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)
    ○ ....
NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.
Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

The way I see things....Lara Fabian shares much in common with the Israeli-American solo violinist - Itzhak Perlman; the virtuoso who made his Carnegie Hall debut performing Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 1 in 1963 and won the Leventritt Competition in 1964. However, instead of playing an $10M Stradivari violin in concert - as Itzhak Perlman does - Lara Fabian brings to the stage the incredible vocal talent and singing ability God endowed her with.

Her pacing control on this song is amazing. She sings it kind of slow and makes you anticipate and want the next phrase before it comes. She's controlling the momentum and makes it build power with little crescendos, ornaments, register changes and vowel manipulations. Every transition has been analyzed and she has applied dozens of tiny changes to make it build at exactly the rate she wants it to. She must have spent months analyzing it and tweaking the vocal expressions until it was just right. There is nothing accidental here.

I want so much that this woman comes on Tour to my Country! I'd not miss it in a million years. She's terribly underrated. She takes us on a journey, with our senses with every song, she tells a story and we not only listen but feel every detail in every note, in every breath. Just gorgeous, every song is a rainbow of emotions. We lost Whitney and now Celine has health problems too...we got Lara and a couple others left that still sing with feeling.

I'm totally agree with you. Singers now (and even before) sings with only one voice (the most of the time). But Lara can have multiple colours, she can be very strong and powerful but also very soft and fragile. She goes in high note but also in her low notes her voice can be warm or crystalline and various of other things like the dynamism with her power in her words or between the sentences. And that's one of the things that I like about her. Her work and her intelligence in her singing. The soul that she put in every songs that she sings.

  • @ericsicard910
    @ericsicard910 ปีที่แล้ว +44

I was surprised you didn’t come back to her earlier.
It appears the staff of Celine D…, the name you don’t want to say, was the reason Sony, their common record company, abruptly stopped promoting Lara ( she was promoted initially as the new Barbra or the new Celine, she didn’t like it) and she had to refocus on Europe, where she became a legend and inspiration for many vocalists of the new generation.
Don’t forget she is also a songwriter in 4 languages: she co-wrote this english version and wrote solely the italian version. She has written gems covered later by Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban.
Adagio for example was covered by Dimash ( he is her absolute fan and made many covers), Floor Jansen, Shirley Bassey, Il Divo, Polina Gagarina, Rimar, …
She is known as The Ring or the queen of resonance.
I will post a few more comments: background of the creation of Adagio, songs recommendations and more details about Lara

By the way, Lara suffered severe ear and hearing damage about 10 years ago when an inexperienced studio technician blasted her ear monitors with a high level of sound. It knocked her down and she had to go to the emergency room. For more information, search for: Lara's Recent Ear Injury

@@fredbloggs6080 yes she recovered almost fully her hearing capabilities and she has found workarounds to deal with the remaining gap.
About her recovery process, she explained in an interview to BFM TV( a french news channel) in 2015 that the treatment was intense and did include drips and hyperbaric chamber in a military hospital.
I cannot send you the link as it’s external and my comment would be auto deleted by YT

TY sooo much for this. Your knowledge (and enthusiasm) is awesome and contagious. Our then young Queen wrote the words to this classical piece and then gives here a spinetingling performance. If Lara could bring her smell into the performance for the audience, she would. She uses everything. All intentional, all executed at masterclass level. She uses more vocal techniques in a single phrase than many famous pop singers use in whole song, a night....or a lifetime. Effortless... Everything. Seems. Effortless. For me, Lara is both an O.G., and the GOAT, of this style of music. She is the Queen, my Queen, our Queen...long may she reign.

I thank you for trying to keep an open mind.
I am strongly of the opinion that Lara is not in competition with anyone. She is the perfect lady, gifted a most beautiful well developed and trained voice. However, in my own journey as a musician, and one who has not traveled the world to attend live performances, I have listened to many singers, vocalists, of many different genres... I cannot think of anyone who negotiates and navigates her way through a song in such uniquely skilled manner and giving facial physical expression in the way she does. Her entire performance each time, in my honest and humble opinion, is totally above the rest. She, right now, currently, is the Greatest Of All Time. My Queen. Lara Fabian.
