I have experienced some issues with the KTM brand. My 690 left me stranded with a faulty fuel pump and it cost me just under $300 to get it and me to a hotel. Add to it the expense to get my bike home and the purchase of a new fuel pump. Then, I’ve had 3 instrument clusters on it and absolutely-0- help from KTM with the issues. While I love the performance of the bike, the little voice in my head keeps asking what’s next. Maybe it’s Yamaha T7 time.
I think it is fair to say that manufactures are constantly upgrading and improving models when a known fault is detected. They will not announce this during a production run, as this will highlight a problem many did not realise existed. So it is fair to say that many existing problems with brakes, clutch and fuel sensors will have already been sorted, but would not be announced until a new model is released. Anyone who had a problem with the old model will know it has been addressed, and if you did not then you just think they are being pro-active! They use the term "enhanced" and "Modified" without going into detail!I hope i am correct as I just bought a 21 plate 790! Lol
Thanks for the comment, Kevin. Congrats on the new bike! I am sure KTM would not have ignored the issues on the first 790s as they came to light. If you remember, please give an update after a couple of hundred miles. And enjoy the bike!!
@@jacobcall1699 if you're going to ride the T7 hard like in this video. You'll override it's soft suspension. If you want to ride it hard be prepared to spend $$$ to upgrade the suspension. Besides that and the fact it doesn't have factory cruise control it a good bike. But by the time you upgrade the suspension you're close to what the 890 cost for a bike that has no electronic safety features, bluetooth etc. The KTM is better in dirt and the T7 is better on the asphalt, especially corning. If you want a turn key bike you can ride hard off road the 890R is the way to go IMO. Yes it's more expensive but you don't have to do anything to it. 👍
@@GreaseAndGravel Hi from UK, I’m one of many who had issues with faulty rear brake sensor , Fuel tank level indicator , and my friends clutch failed at 3000 miles. These faults were dealt with by the dealership in good time but to be honest this give me no faith in the bike and ended up selling it. Purchased the the simple Yamaha Tenere 700 and not had a single issue in the 13000 miles I’ve rode it. Let’s hope the 890 is what the 790 intended to be, hence the cease of production of the 790.
@@TMAdventuresT7 Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Let's hope the 890 sorted all the issue. That T7 looks like an amazing bike! Such a pity that all the other manufacturers went overboard with the tech.
@@TMAdventuresT7 problem with the exhaust bending inwards I think is a huge issue, if you have simple fall to the right side it may not be too happy to straighten exhaust in the midle of the gravel road :-(
what about reliability. Thus this bike now doent need a visit to the workshop every round you take it? sorry but that is so much not needed. No need for more power. Reduce power, reduce weight, raise reliability, raise quality, dont produce in cheap countries, respect that human rights. sorry but as you see i am not really a fan of KTM :-D
I prefer simple bikes and cars without any electronics. That's why I ride a Honda XR650L 😁 While these modern adventure bikes are fun to ride, I still prefer a basic bike for a 3 month trip through Africa.
Thanks for all the detailed explanations! Appreciate the video.. Cheers from The PNW - JB
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it! Cheers from Limpopo, SA ✌
Anodized surfaces, (which is basically a layer of aluminum oxide) are much harder than painted or non-anodized aluminum surfaces.
Thanks, I had no idea!

Yeah, I've heard so many of the same stories! Let me know if you get that T7! Awesome bike. I just bought my first KTM (parts in a bunch of crates!)

For the record I now have over 11000 km on my 2020 790R with no issues. Maybe I'm not riding it hard enough LOL
That’s good news!! You need to be a mad man to ride that bike to its limits. How are you enjoying it?
Its the best bike I have ever ridden. Especially after the Karoo 3 tires are replaced
Awesome, that's great to hear. Cheers!

Oh? I learned something new then: I thought the flywheel was only there to smooth out vibrations, particularly for twin cilinder engines... Thanks!
I also learned that while researching for this video 😁
Love my Yamaha T700 nothing is perfect simple is best
Man, if I were in the market for a new adventure bike I'd get a Yamaha T7 without looking any further. I totally agree on the simplicity. Cheers!
I'm on the fence between the two, I just wish the t700 had factory cruise control and the decision would be easier.
@@jacobcall1699 For me, the lack of cruise control, traction control and rider modes is a plus... but that's where the KTM excel

Because the Rallye Mode is a option at the 850 ,the price different is about 1000.-
I’m shocked with you prices on KTM bikes. In my country (Russia) it costs 1,5 times higher. As well as BMW and other honourable makes...
Same here in South Africa... super expensive compared to the US :(
790 has had far to many problems, no brainier to fade it out and introduce a much better worked on 890
