Alexander Kovaleski: I'm not one who's ordinarily inclined to believe in the concept of magic, but in this case I'd grant an exception to that rule of mine.
Such brilliance from JOY DIVISION..but John PEEL went on air & stuck his chest out & promoted up & coming talent cos he was a man of the people & he totally knew what was going on & intune with time! I feel priveldged now to have listened to his broadcasts on radio 1 @10 pm...loved it THANKS JOHN !!!!
I know many Joy Division fans swear by Martin Hannett's production, but here are the boys stripped down in front of a mic. And they deliver the goods. Plenty of bottom end here. What a band! (And what a change since then from Peel's comments on their popularity.)
@@thereisnospectrum for anyone wanting the punky Joy Division, here are the Warsaw demos from 1977. Plenty good! th-cam.com/video/HW48nwQpnXw/w-d-xo.html

Amazing Peel session this version of exercise one is just brilliant “ dark moody bleak - brilliant guitar brilliant vocals - thanks for sharing I think this is my favourite Peel session
Great recordings, again. Pure, without too much production - I remember hearing it at JP show first, it was magic, like end of 76 the first 7" of The Ramones, Pistols...
Yes! Thank you so much! @Vibracobra23. One of the best from Joy Division.. And the voice of John Peel brings me back to the days, when I received it in the Netherlands via BFBS, a UK army radio service from across the border from germany. (endless turning that tuning knob for the far away station :-)
Only saw them the once as a support band in 78. Standing just a few feet from Ian curtis was quite an experience. Sadly they got booed off after about 6 songs.

I love it that peel said he thought they were an underrated band. What a terribly understated English way....they were an iconic band,.we all know that, alas, in 1979, it seems that they weren’t...catch up. Haha🤪
Presumably taped from the original FM radio broadcast. Peel was broadcast on Radio 2's FM frequency long before the rest of Radio 1 switched from AM to FM.

15:46 A brilliant session by Joy Division followed up by V2 whose drummer was Steve Brotherdale and had previously played in Warsaw until July 1977.
Peel sessions were such brilliant recordings of such brilliant performances.
There was magic in that studio.
I agree, even UB40 sounded good there.
my god, yes.

Saw Joy Division 3 times
1st I thought - strange
2nd - interesting
3rd - caught by it all
Punk Rock lucky bastard!
