The Peel Sessions was very inmportant for many many Bands of all Coleur.
John Peel had gives The Musicians a big Chance to play their Music in his Show.
And there are many great Bands which have had her Big Chance to get famous.
The List of all Bands Who had Play in his Show is Incredible long.

My god. My big sister and her mates took me to see them at the Music Machine in 1980, I was 16. So many, many great bands then..
John Peel was a truly great man in how he helped working class creative people get AirPlay and access. Much missed.

Currently, Gideon Coe on BBC6 is the one DJ that I look forward to every day with eager anticipation, whose show is an event for me the way Peel was an event to the faithful back in the day. Coe doesn't really do sessions, but he does dig deep and often into the Beeb's session archives.

I'm a huge Bowie fan but did not enjoy his polished pop hits of the early 80s - the direction that he went. To fill that vacuum, I became interested in the Psychedelic Furs (due to the sax) and Richard Butler's gravelly voice. The 2nd artist was Gary Numan for his futuristic and emotionally distant sound.

Saw the Furs at Goldsmiths, London, in 1979. Unfortunately the accoustics was terrible (it didn't help that I was standing near a speaker), and it felt like a wall of undifferentiated sound. This is so much better.

I’d like to play drums for them! Too late?

So, Peel listened to demos sent to him at home then invited the bands to record a session for his BBC show? Is that how it worked? Sorry, but I don't know much about Peel's history

On occasion. He invited whoever he liked, within practical constraints.

I'm sorry about daring Richard to that hash smoking contest. I thought his throat would heal. Good thing I was wrong.
