@@feliscorax actually there have been several plans by the BBC to remove patriotic songs from the Proms but they have always been scrapped because of public criticism.
I'm an American too, but I have to say that Vera Lynn, in general, is a knockout songstress who reminds me of our own patriotic Kate Smith singing, "God Bless America". By hearing and watching so many songs by her on You-Tube I realize that Vera Lynn also can sing any song, including love songs. This same night in Holland, in 1962, when she sang, "Hope and Glory" she also sang, "Because Your Mine". It is a stunning, magnetic performance with hundreds of violins playing for this lovely lady. Midway through the song I was halfway in love with Miss Lynn, despite my mind nagging me with comments like, "Hey man it's just a song!". I think the way she sings is the sign of a great singer, one who truly puts her heart into a song. Such talent is a wonderment to behold.
I Love Vera Lynn. Since I was a little boy. She is just Lovely. I'm an American and a WWII Collector and Historian. She is a Legend and she was a huge and positive influence on the English War effort in the Second World War. God Bless Her.
Nobody will ever ban this Great British national song. My father fought in East Afikia and then Burma in the second world war for my and your freedom dont forget that. These people want to take away our British heritage. Over my dead body will anybody do that. Rule Britiania
Well said ! They can try and distort the past and attempt to influence the future, but you cannot change something that has already happened. We are what we now are because of the sacrifices made by our Fathers (like yours) who gained much comfort and support from these Great Songs. What is so wrong with carrying on this great British Tradition ? How dare they try and ban them !!
"Fought in East Africa and Burma ...for my and your freedom". In East Africa and Burma? Really? The Germans defended their freedom at the Hindokush lately as their minister of defense said years ago. Now they are home. German freedom lost?
Yes I agree totally. If we say England is too multi-cultural or that muslims in particular look out of place culturally or even dress-wise,we are branded racist. We speak the truth which millions believe-I don't think it's racialist to point out that most muslims do not want to integrate into the community. They don't want to understand our culture, history and tradition. This is why such songs as' Land of Hope and Glory' will never resonate with any muslim, first generation, second and so forth, because they can't understand the background as to the meaning of such songs to a true Englishman. The fact is we have too many muslims in this once-proud country.
A great melody and passionately sung by the great Vera Lynn, but "God who made thee mighty make thee mightier yet"? Are you kidding? We've had enough might-driven nationalism to last until eternity doubles back on itself.
I know what you're saying. The German national anthem however,,especially the rarely sung and least translated second and third verses, are hardly an image of peace and remember this is still that country's anthem, evoking memories of Hitler and the Nazis,as it does.
I CAN TELL YOU ! VERA GAVE ALL OF US COURAGE TO CARRY ON , SHE WAS AN AMAZING LADY AND WE WERE ALL PROUD OF HER , GOD BLESS HER , 100 YEARS OLD NOW, THANK YOU VERA, AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE CHANCE TO STILL HEAR HER. :):):)

Throughout the war, the unique voice of Vera Lynn encouraged British and dominion troops, across the airwaves, to go the full mile for King and Country. She was young and beautiful, and it is fitting that she sang this song in 1962. American forces must also have received encouragement too from a young English Rose , as they were cousins to the mother country..

Wow, what a bright and shining voice she had. This was 1962. There would be three more years before a crown would be issued to commemorate the celebration of Churchill's life. Vera Lynn, Queen Elisabeth later The Queen Mother, the King and Churchill came to extol the generation called upon to give up so much. This voice was one that multi generations may not have known the name but recognized it non the less. Standing for this song, let us never forget the power of the voice, the song and the one who brilliantly sang this Elgar composition.

Listening to Vera sing this song reminds me that Great Britain can once again survive and prosper like we did in the dark days of World War 2. God bless and thank you Dame Vera for reminding us of the British spirit that helped the country win the threat from Europe during WW2 and can do so once again with the present day threat from Europe caused by Brexit.
+Bep Hvilsted Bep, in case you haven't noticed or are in denial - it's a British song, and the singer, Dame Vera Lynn, is very much an English woman .... It's composer, Sir Edward Elgar, was very much an Englishman and so was the lyricist, Arthur C. Benson an Englishman also .... so stop trying to make it your own and make it sound like it belongs to every nation .... it doesn't .... It's ours - it's British

I so do love the people of Britain! I've been there many times. I've walked the streets of little villages like Holmes Chapel to the great cities of York, Manchester and London. I am so fond of the people and they seem to like knowing and telling me in sometimes loud voices and waves that "You're an American! WOW!" . Somehow they know. I dearly love this great island fortress and its people.

Bless you Vera - As the woke cancer in society try to get this song banned from the Proms for being “racist”. May God who made us mighty make us mightier yet to fight this nonsense!

@Templar Royston Of Vasey What you have said is extreamly rude and your spelling is attrocious; however you are spot on.
Whatever country you live in, this has to be the best patriotic wong ever. Sung by the best performer of the time. A stirring rendition
Cried my heart out while trying to sing alongside Vera.......... 69 years old, so not old enough to be her contemporary. But old enough to hear my parents and grandparents revere her. Thank you for this upload, it re-connects me to my heritage.
So thankful that she and her family shared the "Forces Sweetheart" with all our men and women throughout the war.
I am a German & I would like to have such a beautiful voice & Lady to express the proud of my country.
what an angel when I remember my father and eldest brother both died for there country.she has helped me so much god bless Vera.
The BBC would not allow this great lady,if she was alive to sing this patriotic song. Shame on you BBC.
The BBC hate Vera Lynn.
Why not?
@@klausgh they would allow it because of the public outrage if it was banned but l have a suspicion that they would love to get rid of it.
What a crock of shite. The BBC is not anti-English you daft prat.
@@feliscorax actually there have been several plans by the BBC to remove patriotic songs from the Proms but they have always been scrapped because of public criticism.
Who in this year 2024 is watching this wonderful video and enjoying it?

Me once proud nation ❤
I do and I am 92 years old!

Makes you so proud to be British!!
I GREATLY respect Great Britain and Vera Lynn.
We overcame difficult times together.
This was a blessing from God.
We truly love Great Britain.
I agree totally we had such a great country now being ruined.
My dad was in the RAF and saw Vera live several times. He never forgot the hope she gave to all the people even in the very bad times. God bless her.
My Dad was in the RCAF during WW2, & yes...he was stationed in Britain for a while.
I'm an American and it makes me proud to have you guys as an ally.
+Devon Barker As a Briton, I am proud to have you as our brothers :)
We share a common history, traditions, language and so much more.
😊
You are wrong.
You are wrong.
I Love Vera Lynn. Since I was a little boy. She is just Lovely. I'm an American and a WWII Collector and Historian. She is a Legend and she was a huge and positive influence on the English War effort in the Second World War. God Bless Her.
I think every Canadian soldier stationed in England during WW 2 was in love with Vera Lynn. To them she was a goddess.
And Scotland and Wales and not forgetting N Ireland it was the united kingdom not England
@@dw69ful This should be our national anthem !!
"Fought in East Africa and Burma ...for my and your freedom". In East Africa and Burma? Really? The Germans defended their freedom at the Hindokush lately as their minister of defense said years ago. Now they are home. German freedom lost?
Good for you
What a sad loss today, the wonderful Dame Vera Lynn has passed away at the grand old age of 103.
God bless her and the great country men and woman! Truly the greatest generation!
I'm a Filipino but this song makes me a British
My favourite country GREAT BRITAIN 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Lots of love from Philippines 🇵🇭🤗
How can any true Englishman not like this stirring rendition, sang with such passion by the lovely Vera Lynn!
It mystifies me.
Yep-you're not wrong!
so very true
A great melody and passionately sung by the great Vera Lynn, but "God who made thee mighty make thee mightier yet"? Are you kidding? We've had enough might-driven nationalism to last until eternity doubles back on itself.
I know what you're saying. The German national anthem however,,especially the rarely sung and least translated second and third verses, are hardly an image of peace and remember this is still that country's anthem, evoking memories of Hitler and the Nazis,as it does.
This beautiful song should always be played thinking of all the soldiers who fought for this land of hope and glory.
101 years old actually.
vera lynn was 102 on march 20. 2019 . amazing born 2017
Sir thanks you for your service. I am beyond grateful for yout sacrifices. I hope you have many healthy years. God bless you. God bless the greatest generation!
Those of us who lived those days find most of the sand in the hourglass bottom. VL's music assures when the upper glass is diminished, we will not be forgotten.
im young and didnt see her perform in her youth but i am so amazed with this singer. how blessed are those years u have this noble minds and songs. my parents generation is worth extolling.
This is some kind of words...thank you sir, the memories of your generation shall live forever in ours and we will make sure they will live on through the next generations...
Don Ulmer Much respect to you.
You will always be what made us so great......Thankyou sir.💕

What a wonderful voice! She will be sorely missed. The choir of angels in heaven has a new member.
Yes, for sure! The choir of angels in Heaven has a new member. I hope the flights of angels sang her to her rest.
God Bless Vera Lynn! This woman helped keep the morale of not only the British people, I remember it very well as a child, and it made me feel strong....just as very Lynn sang it!!! GREAT!!!

This is such a moving rendition of a great song.
BBC - go bury yourselves, it is not your job to mess with our culture and traditions.
Hello Annabelle, How are you doing?
YES leave our culture alone, the BBC has become too woke, and we the people who actually pay them are bloody fed up with it,and while they are at it,stop trying to change our history,it’s makes us angry
@@jeanbrown8295 And it is very hurtful to our nation as a whole. My parents were children during the war and knew real hardship, fear and danger in our country - the unity of the nation, joint effort, and Winston Churchill's speeches helped everyone pull together and believe in the country and that

What a voice! My mother was a great admirer of hers!Even in the Netherlands she was very popular for the people who had to suffer World War 2
Lovely and courageous Vera Lynn - Land of Hope and Glory. We owe so much to that generation.
Lest we forget and allow our history to be revised by this crop of WOKE with their Cancelling and Censorship social media and big Tech algorithms.

My grantmother (was born 1909) was a big fan of her she always told me:) God bless her.... thanks Dame Vera
Listening to Vera sing this song reminds me that Great Britain can once again survive and prosper like we did in the dark days of World War 2. We are once again facing an ominous threat from Europe in the form of leaving the European Union but Great Britain will again be a land of hope and glory post Brexit. God bless and thank you Dame Vera for reminding us of the British spirit that helped the country win the threat from Europe during WW2 and can do so once again with the present day threat from Europe caused by Brexit.
I'm not British, but this song makes me want to be! ;)
It touches my heart ...
Beautiful and powerful!
SuperCatClaw Not British, but proud of ones country, regardless of what that country is!
SuperCatClaw , Before yes, but now, land from Islam terrorist and criminal immigration...

This is what made England Great people like Vera Lynn and others , shame it doesn't happen anymore
Love her voice--big mezzo with an easy top and low notes to burn. . She toured constantly during WWII--not just England but Burma, Egypt basically everywhere there were British Forces. Amazing person.
whenever you hear this song played , it should make you proud to be British, I played this in the school orchestra, when I was 7 yrs old, in a competition which we won, it still gives me goosebumps 56 yrs on, and im proud to say im British, and Vera Lynn sings it with such gusto, incredible lady
I teared up... And I'm Dutch... I wish you all the best, my dear Britons.
It doesn't come much better than that does it? What a way to start your day? S5ill makes us proud!
I want to be allowed to be proud and patriotic again without losing my job! I have love for all people
There is a strength in old England. That the plots and schemes of a hundred years might struggle to prevail against.
This is just about the most stirring rendition of a song that I have ever heard! Vera at her very best. What a blessed lady to have such a voice and what feeling she sings with. What has happened to that beautiful country that moved her to give such a great performance. Just love her so much.
A Great Singer with an Outstanding Voice. How Great She is.
I am a Lebanese fan of Vera Lynn and her Patriotic Songs ❤🇬🇧

I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Dame Vera just a few years ago. She is a Lady in every sense and has done wonderful work for a childrens charity over many years, but it is never mentioned. She is 102 now I think, and may she be with us for a long time yet .
Could you please share your encounter?
