- Welcome to our 1978 Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 barn find. The Jag was stored in a garage not far from us, only a couple of miles away, since 1999, 24 years ago, when it was taken off the road for maintenance by it’s previous owner.
In this episode we finally fix the frustrating overheating issue that we have been battling on the barn find Jag, which many of you were right about the cause of the issue. Check out this episode to find out what it was. We also diagnosed the rattle under the car and fix this too.
The challenge we have set ourselves in this Jaguar barn find series, is to revive the Jag and to get the car back on the road again.
So let’s crack on, We hope you enjoy the episode
Huge thank you for watching.

More conversation, between dad and lad, in one episode, than I had in a lifetime with mine. How it should be. Wonderful.
cant beat an old JAAAAAAAG!! when they are working well
Good to see your Dad back in "action" and the content you you show us😊
We loved our very early SWB S2 XJ6 & had it for 30 years as it was super reliable & handled so well. We only sold it because it was not air-conditioned & as we got older we needed air-con for our hot summer days. We took our Mk2 to a classic car display & our old S2 turned up with its current owners who also love the car. S2 are supposed to be the least desirable XJ6 but we think they are the best looking ones & if you get a good one they are hard to beat as a useable classic.
Thank you gentlemen another great video. Have a excellent week. Cheers
I love the jag, it’s great but best of all it’s great to see such close father son relationship.
Hope once the mechanics are sorted you sort the body and the paintwork. It’s a shame Jaguar built such fantastic cars that self destructed .
Great job with the Jag
Greetings from Ireland. Really enjoying your show. I’ve only last week acquired a Daimler series 1 4.2 (a birthday present to myself to mark my 60th year) and it is great to have your videos as a reference for jobs I’ll need to do. Well done 👍
Hi Gerry..
I just brought in a 74 xj6 from the USA.....plenty of little tasks to do.....
Great to see the Jag back on the road, fixing up a 76 XJ-S myself.
Best of luck with your XJS. Any chance you’d post some content? My brother had a 1977 XJS 3-spd auto. Staggering machine and so far ahead of the competition.
@@landhopper4296Sure, I can take a few videos of it. They are amazing cars, such a beautiful design.
This is your friendly reminder that not just chaps enjoy your videos and please put the Jaguar's rad fan round the right way! 👍👍👍
Love the jag old cars have soul when I can afford an old jag i will get one i love the colour
It is great to see how the Jag is coming along. For a car that sat for so long she does look to be in pretty good nick.
Without wanting to be to cheeky, is there any chance you could get some microphones in the future as I have trouble hearing you at times and then have to go back and turn up the volume to then turn it back down when your then are closer to the microphone on the camera that you are using.
It is good to see you both back putting out regular content for us lot to enjoy.
One thing I did when I cleaned out the water manifold was I removed the water temperature sender because it's at the bottom and a lot of crap can gather here, it can also give a false temp. Reading. Enjoy the interaction between father and son. I've got a long term issue with trying to remove the heater core on my series one. Much bigger job than a series two or possibly series three. All the best with your projects.
Good to see a Jaguar update. As soon as you mentioned the knock from the gearbox area it reminded me of when I did the same repair on one of my previous XJ6's. I always had leapers on the front of mine (Except for the Daimler XJ6 I had), it was so nice to see on the bonnet. I took my mother out for ride up in the North Yorkshire Dales one day in it, (probably around 1993?) and a guy doffed his cap as we passed through Kettlewell. That gesture made our especially for my mother who smiled and waved back. Jaguar's are as much about memories as they are about great design, grace, space and pace. Of all the cars you have, a classic Jaguar will give you memories to treasure. And the car in this video, reminds me so much of my British Racing Green XJ6 the memories flood back. I was even asked to hire it for a photo shoot for a band. Unfortunately, because the video and photoshoot had guns, the police were called and the whole thing was stopped because the production company hadn't informed the police of what was happening on the old power station site. Still, it was great fun!
This jag will come up mint with a buff and a polish and a full detail
Great👍👍👍👍
Must get a series 1,2 or3 car. Id prefer leather interior tho. Fantastic learning curve . Cheers lads
Great to see the Jag making progress, nice that the car seems to want to be fixed up and on the road !
Don’t forget to turn the cooling fan the right way round so it pulls air properly…….
Excellent! Be great to see you both in like a live chat with a beer to answer some viewers questions etc ? Or a recorded one for us overseas 👍 be great to hear you and dad more
Not sure if you’ve seen this one but it’s a Q&A we did a little while ago.

@@upbuild4397 thank you ! I hope my son and I will be working like you and your dad one day
Great Work Gentlemen and enjoy watching in my workshop here in France where i have several projects of my own on the go and its all about the Enjoyment.
Keep enjoying it, don’t make it a chore for yourselves 👍
Excellent video. Beautiful car. Love to see you saving it and keeping its originality. Superb!!!
Fantastic guys. Always enjoy all your videos and appreciate all the time and effort involved.
Thanks for lowering my blood pressure.
Just loving the content guys. As a former vehicle technician/ plant engineer/machinist now retired I really appreciate you skills, patience and methodology on all of your work and its a great watch each week. Really thought you had more issues with that Jag engine than what materialised with the all of the initial smoke and steam coming out of the back end initially. Brilliant content well done.
Another grat video looking forward to the next thanks Andy Allen
Ticking off the jobs on the Jag. Keep up the good work.
Good to know I was correct in my assumption your “clunk” was a bad gearbox/transmission mount! Amazing what a difference replacing that mount makes!
Super work lads...sorting the basis with no obd scan needed to identify the problems😢....proud series owner in ireland..
Good save Gents. A true classic. Needs good storage now. Dry and mice free. You can spray peppermint oils under car and engine bay. Gets rid of the mice. Good luck.
Great stuff gentlemen, very interesting and enjoyable stuff…👍🏻👍🏻🐈
Splendid 💯👌
Great video glad you sorted the overheating issue, i have a soveriegn series 3 & touch wood all good so far in 3 years of ownership!
I see the xj first arrive in 69 really lovely to see what your doing on all the bits very relaxing , lol prob not for you though ,your both very good mechanics and great personalities keep it up
Thank you for watching, really pleased to hear you’re enjoying it 😁👍
Good repairs on the Jaguar, it would have taken me six months to do all that work. But having said that its the same here, the trees in the garden need trimming urgently, before winter sets in (we are in New Zealand), our Mazda MPV has a growing list of repairs that need done, the scrap metal in the shed needs to be taken to the recyclers etc, etc.🍀
In the middle of recommissioning my 2002 xj8. Oils filters bushes pipes bushes the list goes on .....
Can’t wait to see that gorgous jaggggggg all polished and waxed, great job guys.ps jags of today have no match with your jaggggg, the green hornet!!🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
This is a great channel and very interesting. Keep going lads. .Good team work
Canny a bag of tuna ! Love your vids great show. I’m building a Mini and it’s been going on for 3+ years and that’s hard enough, let along 4 other projects 😂
As always great show. Very enjoyable. Thanks.
Great Watching the work on the JAAAG ❤️Lovely to see you and your Dad working so well together 👍👍
Good job guys......
Great to see you knocking the problems down, one by one, but do be careful spraying things outside, so close to your cars. A neighbour of mine (nobody owned up!) sprayed white paint outside and my dark blue car was covered in thousands of tiny white paint spots. Took me many hours with a clay bar, polish and solvent to clean it off and there are still some spots left to remind me...
My neighbour did that while spray painting the fence. I asked him beforehand if I needed to move my car, and he said no and assured me it would be fine. Now my blue Renault Scenic is covered in tiny brown dots all down one side.
Good point!
That fuzzy sock over the mic makes it hard to hear you, keep up the good work boys...
Nice one boys
Great video lads - - Dad and I are doing my Daimler S2 (1978) and Dads XJ12L (on Carbs & 29k from new). The Daimler needs the breaks sorting as yours did but also the AED sorting out; ive rebuilt mine but having followed the set up instructions, it joest doesnt run right. ive invetsted in a manual choke kit not not fitted yet so am keen to see what route you guys take withe choke set up on yours ! As an aside - im assuming the blockage in the manifold impacted the heating system > Keep up th great work buys 👌
Great Channel. 👍
Great video ,fantastic watching you and hour dad, jags great ,
Thanks 👍
The shiny bit next to the mounting bracket you just painted there were a few drops of liquid coming from it dont know if you noticed it
You continue to create the content that you want and well watch it.
Yes some are here for the Mini content and others might like the Jag or the MX5 either way there’s something for everyone. The troubles and solutions can expand to almost any vehicle regardless of its age.
Each project will get its turn to have you two gents setting out to tackle any issues whether it’s a starter problem, stopping or just a case of getting the welder out. Right when’s the bar open?
Thank you for that really appreciate it 👍
Have you thought about digging a pit in the workshop for working underneath the cars?
always a joy to see what you chaps are up to. i noticed what looks like a partable car lift on the floor. is that new?
Hi yeah we got them a couple weeks ago, they’re Quickjacks, they’re absolutely fantastic. We’ll be getting plenty of use out of them so we’ll have them in the video’s 😁👍
@@upbuild4397trying to convince a buddy of mine to buy one. please do a video on it for me to use as fodder. 😁
like a central heating system gets corroded could you plumb in a magnatec and run it for a few cycles?
Change the headliner. You can get inexpensive complete boards. See how much of a struggle to get in and out 😮
Good afternoon gentlemen. The Jaguar's coming along very nicely and your very good at trouble shooting , particularly finding the source of the overheating . Wre you going to see if the headlining is going to clean up ? Or is the camera making it appear to be much dirtier than it is ? Thanks .
Hi thank you for the comment 👍. We need to put a new headlining in as the oil one has completely detached itself from the backing. I actually already have the headliner material to install, just need to get round to putting it in.
Regards
Mark.
@@upbuild4397 Thanks Mark . One of the first jobs l did on my '76 . I actually removed the side rails , front and rear rails . I then removed the headlining and using it as a pattern made an aluminium pattern , glued the new headling to the metal pattern and then fitted the headlining back into the car . By reclining the seats as far down as you can , l was able to install the headlining without removing the front or rear screens . 14 years later and it still looks perfect ! Cheers !
Spotty dog chaps

Guys can you invest in a couple of wearable mic's, hard to hear you when you turn away from your hand held camera.
Guessing you sold the original reg?
Want to sell it ?
Once it’s finished and if the price is right 😁
Finish the mini, it's been too long
