I want to note that the gimbal tools file has been upgraded to V 1.3.2 this requires a change in the final step: when you click "upgrade" you must now hold down the power button on the crane (if you don't the time will elapse and will say searching failed) after it is installed all you have to do is turn on the crane as you normally would. Hope this helps someone.
Hey Russell, I'm having the same general issue as this video, but I have the Crane 2. Currently, if I boot up the Crane I just get a flashing Upgrade screen and then the X. So I've followed this information and also this users video th-cam.com/video/yFcdQT4d5cA/w-d-xo.html. When I get to step 3 in his Key Steps section the Upgrade button has changed to countdown from 30 seconds. After the 30 seconds expires a message appears saying "Searching Failed!" I'm not finding any other useful info yet so I'm hoping you might be able to help further. Thank you.

I just don't want to give you any inaccurate information that may damage your crane. I pray you get through successfully & let me know if you do.

Before I followed these directions whenever I plugged it in it would just start slapping itself metal on metal. It was like it was glitching out, but now everything works and I appreciate the video.
There are three different software downloads: USB Driver, Calibrator (through which you get to the update tool) and the firmware update. I learned you MUST use the usb cable you got with the Smooth-Q, all others fail to let the computer see the gimbal. Install the driver first. Connect the gimbal and long-press the mode button to set it in standby. Start the calibrator. The update took about 10 seconds and did make a small difference.

You can try to download the driver on zhiyun website, if the driver is unvailable try any driver from different crane which is up to dated, i just bought crane m which is old, discontinue and no driver available , the gimbal updater cannot detect this crane, so i tried to download crane m vers 2 driver, and the crane detected and go for the updates, hope this can fix your issue🙏
I'm glad I've seen this video. I'm getting the Crane V2 in 2 weeks time so I'll update when I get it! I do have a question though; since updating has the operation gotten better in any way or was the update only for the increased payload?
This didn't work using my Mac. I downloaded the CH341SER USB Driver, CP210x USB Driver and the Calibration Upgrade Tool. The Crane refused to connect. I was trying it for over an hour! THEN, I tried it using a PC and it worked first time. Odd. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for this video man. I'm using a Zhiyun Crane M and trying to upgrade my firmware.. followed your instructions but for some reason the Gimbal tools can't detect my crane M. Maybe it has something to do with the USB driver? Do I have to save this to somewhere, specifically? When I try to install the driver (CH341SER) it keeps saying "the driver installation wizard successfully scanned your machine but did not find any devices to be updated". I'm using Windows10. Hey man, no it doesn't matter where you save it. Have you tried a different usb port? Or even different PC? Also, did you uninstall the old driver first, before you tried to install?
I found this reply on another video: I figured it out too awhile ago. You have to download there items. The CH341SER USB Driver, CP210x USB Driver, and firmware. For the CP210x USB Driver it says for RIDER-M, EVOLUTION, TINY-2, SMOOTH 2 & SMOOTH C but disregard that just download it too. This is for mac. I tried this on Windows and this was the solution that worked for me too!
Thanks for posting that. Was the solution I was long looking for. I couldn't get my Mac or Windows PC to connect to the Zhiyun Crane V2 using the CH341SER USB Driver. Once I installed the CP210x USB Driver it recognized the Crane right away. Who would have figured the driver for the other models would be what was needed??? Anyway, thanks again.
I'm not sure if I'm missing the point: but you didn't have to turn it on? Cause I'm looking at previous version and the other version is "putting it on standby mode and pressing joystick for 1 sec" and all that biz...I'm using the same crane as yours, if I turn it on, it buzzes like hell lol
Be careful with turning it on without a camera on top. It goes all mental, I know what you mean. No, just plug it in as it is and your PC should recognize it just fine.

Can't update mine. Tried on both mac and pc (4 computers in total) but doesn't work. I even installed all the drivers that it required. Never had so much trouble updating firmware on anything else other than Zhiyun Crane V2. It says 'searching' then 'searching failed' when after clicking on the 'update' button. It does run search for 30 seconds and then it says 'searching failed'. Anyone with any ideas??
Could anybody help me? Just installed the "CH341SER USB Driver" restart the MAC and opened the Software, connect the Crane but nothing happen... EDIT: Found the solution. You have to install the "CP210x USB Driver" first
I use MAC and had the same problem. Installing the "CP210x USB Driver" in addition made things work. PLUS I had to put the cranes power on after connecting it via USB for making it visible for the upgrading software.
There is still the minimum payload, which is around 500grams If I remember right? Payload just got increased, so whatever camera worked with it before, is still ok.
100% sure, what happened when you plugged in the usb? did you get one short flash of the led by the joystick? Also, if you're on PC, and you have sounds enabled, you can hear the Windows notification when you plug it in and it's recognized.
I didn't need to do it, not sure why it needs to be in standby for some people. Turn the crane on with the camera on top, and hold the mode button down for a few seconds. Then take the camera off.
First thing i'd do is reinstall the program. Also, Is your computer recognizing other usb devices? Some people needed to have the gimbal in the standby mode before plugging in.

Just want to comment that the software is recognized as harmful and my anti-hacking tool stopped it from being installed. So I will live without any hardware upgrade :-(

I don't recommend doing that. I turned it on with the camera on top. Put it to standby mode, and took the camera off.

When did you buy your crane? They are generally not updated to v1.60 when you get them

It's probably not the latest firmware. If i was you i would do the upgrade. This way you'll be 100% sure that you'll be on v1.60 version.

Hmm yes its strange. I get the sound when the computer connects to the gimbal but it doesnt appear on the gimbal tools program.
