      Fake a slider move with JUST the tripod..... While holding the tripod and arm.... balance the tripod on 1 or 2 legs depending..... Let go of tripod but hold onto the arm....now lean tripod forward and tilt the cam same time. Not the best....but if no resource and want to add little motion..... quick hack

    THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME FILMMAKING HACK. I shoot events mostly and the monopod has been my go to, but I’d never thought of a monopod with a Gimbal on top. You are a genius! I love this technique.

  • @ManoloFloyd
    @ManoloFloyd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. I'm going to give it a try. Can you recommend a good video ball head for tripods?

  • @misterdeity
    @misterdeity 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Technically, what you’ve done here is turn your gimbal into a jib, not a slider. On bigger shoots with big jibs, you can remove the arch by putting the jib on a dolly, and moving the dolly forward and backward in time with the rotation of the jib. But this is a good trick if you don’t need the camera to move in a straight line.

    if using an a6500 for instance, do think that the weight of the gimbal/camera can be an issue for the screw/screw hole in the handle?

    Awesome idea, it seems like your threaded screw could snap off that's a lot of pressure there if you're using a medium sized camera with battery grip and a medium lens. Maybe not but I'd be nervous.

    The only problem is that the distance change and thats a problem if you have a short depth of field. But can work fine in some situations :-)

    • @ShubhamBanka
      @ShubhamBanka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes You are right there is problem in the changes of distance

    • @MrMilanina
      @MrMilanina 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The distance will be changed as soon as you move it, even on the real slider. You would need to follow the pattern of a circle, with a center of it where the subject is, in order to keep the distance the same.

    • @ManoloFloyd
      @ManoloFloyd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For product videos you could measure the center of the circle made by the tripod/gimbal system and place the product there, then shoot with he camera pointing towards the middle point. Then it will maintain the distance. Other than that, I'm afraid you will have to close that aperture in order to increase field

    • @jorgenmalmo
      @jorgenmalmo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ManoloFloyd same problem there. The distance change and the camera dont point to the middle point but forward.

    I also attached a screen (wired to the camera) with a clamp and arm to the crane arm and technically it works and let's you see your shot and make sure you are in focus, but it is very heavy and impossible to keep a steady shot. With a tripod this will work without question. Going to try attaching the clamp, arm, screen to the tripod. I will keep you posted.

    Hi works, such a helpful trick to make a slide video. But i thought when u make a move with the tripod isn it the pattern of the movement like a half of circle? And how is the result of the video? Is it like straight move? Thank you.

    • @JevenDovey

  • @DanielRize
    @DanielRize 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jeven. Don't have a gimbal yet, but am wondering about the "arc" or "bowing" you describe here. Do you think that adding an extension --- between the gimbal handle and the tripod --- might lessen the arcing effect ? Or would it just make it worse ? Seems like it would have to change the effect --- one way of the other. Thanks for an interesting video !

    A carbon fibre short slider adds hardly no extra weight to your setup and will give better results.

    • @BrianBrayMedia
      @BrianBrayMedia 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Light weight or not, it’s still an extra piece of gear that takes up space. Whether or not the slightly better shot is worth that extra space and weight is an individual judgement call. Personally I found nothing lacking in any of the shots Jeven showed here, but I’m sure he left out some that weren’t as good.
