I am the daughter of German parents who lived through WWII in Germany. My mother was forcibly displaced from Silesia by Sowjet troops in 1946. My father suffered from war-induced PTSD for his entire life. I learned in school in Western Germany that "Never again" is a moral imperative, that anti-semitism is abhorrent, and that standing with the State of Israel is mandatory for post-war Germans. I am horrified and disgusted that the State of Israel has managed to raise young people whose moral values and mental states would make them very good guards in fascist prison camps. The State of Israel has allowed the dehumanization of Palestinians to morally bankrupt its entire moral and political foundation. The last year has been full of painful realizations for me. Calm and rational evaluations like this from Ms Albanese helped me cope with that intellectually and emotionally.
