I'm happy to find an episode w/ Joan. I always find her gracious and humorous. As for the art, I'm still learning. I wish the judges could explain what they see more thoroughly.

The comments made about the lady who used pastels are uncalled for. She used the medium the way it’s supposed to be used and it was successful.

Those comments were made in comparison to her work with graphite. Her work with graphite was immaculate and elegant. The one with pastels, while technically well executed, it was very low end, again, compared with her work with graphite.

    The weakest painter wins!
    Right!
Hats off to The other, much better artists who are gracious and polite!

It is so unfair, this painting of Samira sucks. Others were so much better and i am An artist myself, so i know wat i am talking about. She has made some good portraits, but this one was not. Is this a kumbaya show?

So, based on the critics commentary and choices.
The goal here, is to create a portrait that is unrecognizable ???

I one of th episodes, the judges mentioned, that during the waiting time, they were discussing wether or not such a portrait needs to have a likeness. The mere fact that this is something that needs discussion (meaning some say id doesn't have to be?) boggles me. I mean, another word for portait is literally "Likeness". it is the absolute basic and most important requirement of any portrait! An artist who wants to dabble in abstraction, should not do portrait...all other topics will do, but portraits need to be 100% recognizable imho. But looking through all the seasons and winners, the main goal of a portrait just seems to be a goody, or even worse, something unwanted.

I don't agree with the winning painting...the judges comment on others' paintings as not giving a likeness...and then they pick one that is not realistic at all...more of an abstract... maybe because I don't like abstract art... I preferred the guy's that paints like the classic masters (the guy wearing the cap)

    • @TaniaRouserArt

I love abstracts but in this very case there were at least three other ones that worked better as a painting and a portrait over the current winner 🤯

The judges always select the painting that has big brush strokes. They have done this several times now.

Why is it, that I almost always disagree with their winner ? I wouldn’t want a painting of me that doesn’t look like me. The sitter didn’t even want it. Show seems rigged.

  • @sandraford4235
    @sandraford4235 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Bad choice of winner but then the judges always go for dabbed paintings which doesn’t take much skill.I don’t know why they don’t just do dabby artist competitions ,they’re not interested in lifelike ar.

    900 self-portraits? It is a little bit narcisistic, isn’t?!😂

It’s practice. Practice is the only way to get better. Maybe you can call it narcissistic but consistent painting is hard and if self-portraits keep you painting then you’re doing pretty great. imo

A bad artist blames her sitter... The way that woman failed with two mediums,.. even kids paint better ... And she kept blaming Anita, while two other artists paint the same sitter so well

  • @MikeyRumi180

So painting a resemblance to the actual sitter isn't important to these judges. ridiculous. they chose the weakest renditions. well okay then....outta here.

The artists are going too over board with odd patches of color on the face. They are losing the likeness. I do like it on the sides but I would like to see that artist that doesn't need the Ipad, grid, etc. to copy a painting. I love the show and I'm waiting on the one true artist that stands out.

What a bunch of hacks these judges are. I've been binge watching, and you can't count the number of times they contradict themselves. "Realism is naive and formulaic." Next episode; "Such stunning realism." Blah blah blah. From the same judge! And they sooo often advance hideously ugly portrayals of attractive people, and justify it by claiming its "braver" than PORTRAITS that are a great likeness and also beautiful and flattering.
