      +AMPRO Engineering .... just dropped a longer comment about a possible better shape for a dual geared N20 center casing, maybe right side (for front) angled forward, and left side (for rear) angled back, more in line to the pumpkins, so the shafts and U-joints are half as kinked up. stock are kinda __/^^^ steep!

    Great Video! Things I've done to my truck? I changed the ESC, the Receiver and the servo. But one thing that is way more interesting is the fact that the kit version comes with some cool "upgrades". It has softer tires, a real steering servo and (at least it feels like) a stronger motor. You should definitely go on thingiverse and check out the available upgrades for the truck. You can find a servo mount or a double motor gearbox f.ex. 😀😀

      Wow I will. I did see a 2 speed trans upgrade video but I dont know when the trans if from. Looked like a bolt in.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      get a look at that "stronger motor", it's a 2.4v FK-180, too high on the RPM's and prone to getting hot with 6v to 7.4v input. a 12v 5,000 RPM (or less) FK-130 is likely more appropriate for these things. I can only guess WPL heard "more torque" and mistook that for meaning "MORE POWER MORE SPEED!". there are only a couple eBay sellers who fully list input voltage and free spin RPM of their 180 motors, one was about 10k on 24v.

Well good to see this new truck from wpl I had the wpl c14 n gave it to my 5yr old niece n back driveshaft was gone in the first two minutes, front wheel drive only,lol! there are metal gears and driveshafts available for these now too, the plastic ones will hold up better powered by N20's.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's why I don't think they are good for kiddos. I think it is really weak. I also just ordered the metal driveshafts.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      my kit arrived yesterday, both axle input shafts, I pulled the bevel gear, slipped the inside bushing out, small washer, then glued the bushing back in standing out about .060". have a pair of long needlenose with one jaw curved, glued/pressed the bevel gear back onto it's spline and the gear mesh is about perfect. much less wiggle on the metal shaft too for the plastic bushings being a little further apart. used thicker black automotive wheel bearing grease instead of what it came with for all of it. also happened to have a 12v FK-130 motor (high torque low RPM) I popped in there for now, free RPM about 1/3 of the 180 motor that came with it, so it's possible I wont have to make a new center section to house a pair of geared N20's that are taking forever to arrive from China.

  • @ValleyRC
    @ValleyRC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If the previous trucks are anything to go by, the kit version has a hobby servo, bigger 180 motor and softer tyres.
    I'm guessing you're going to go with the dual N20 motors or some other alternative power plant and fit your own servo but it might be worth looking for spare tyres when they hit the online stores, they are MUCH softer. At least that was the case with the other trucks they have put out.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      in eBay, look to sellers $1.59 to $44.95, have all the parts, and sell the soft tires about 5 bucks a set. very soft, very sticky. I'm using slightly smaller diameter Subotech foam inserts in them, face still soft about 1/8" depth but takes out a lot of floppy sidewall flex.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that is the plan. The harder tires are actually perfect for this one as I have other plans for it but man, the electronics are going away!

      @ValleyRC 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AMPRO Engineering It's literally just hitting the Chinese sites, give it a week or so and it should start showing up on places like ebay, aliexpress, gearbest etc. All the usual suspects.
      If you join the Facebook group, the owner of WPL toys is always giving previews of upcoming models and upgrades etc.
      He doesn't speak English so you have to use translate but he seems really into RC and listens to the customers.

      it's not the 2 speed trans, it's case for a pair of geared N20's.
      if you look through TH-cam videos, someone is referencing files available for 3D printing these things, I just don't have access to a printer here, so I ordered that.
      another video pointed out the 2 speed trans is kinda bulky/heavy and hangs down pretty far to get "bonked", and I suspect I'll have to use some thin aluminum to place the dual N20 mount a little lower so U-joints aren't overly kinked/stressed. the dual N20 mounts I'd seen are very high up in the frame and FLAT, where something that hangs down a little bit and places motors in a --\___/-- shape (side view ascii "art" haha) could let both U-joints have less angle on them, for motors output shafts pointing slightly downward (shortening may be required idk).

      think I nailed it above, missing a little plastic centrifugal clutch shoe on the motor would sure explain the NOISE and it's inability to turn the wheels worth a darn.... dissect it to see if I'm correct. if so, those steering boxes are inexpensive enough and you can recycle the toy grade guts into something less critical, like a little scratch built RC boat.

      Yes I have now realized that. Amazing how cheap labor is for now in China.

  • @modelnutty6503
    @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    definitely check out Gabriel Silvaz channel, he runs a pair of 12v N20 geared motors in a center section he whipped up. planning on doing same (with 300 RPM N20's) when my kit arrives, and plan to run it on two 14500 (AA) size 3.7v lithium ion cells. they're not as sensitive about being over discharged, a cheap 20A brushed ESC doesn't have an LVC to protect LiPo anyway.... and the two 3.7v AA size ion's will save a bunch of weight.
    if the toy version has the hard tires, soft are available under 5 bucks for a set and very worth it! picked up 3 sets of them to mess with on other project ideas, it's easy to make them fit Subotech 1/24 rims, BG1511D is going to get a low RPM higher torque 180 motor, should make a really nice little budget crawler/bouncer for trails. using the smaller diameter subotech foam inserts in the WPL soft tires, nice and squishy about 1/8" and took out a lot of the tires sidewall flex. (the subotech project idea would be right up your alley I'd think)
    the N20's cut the speed and weight down for better crawling, the really steady torque also less likely to snap drive shafts and U-joints. also planning a quick/light spray of automotive undercoating so the plastic doesn't CLANK so much, dollar store adhesive backed foam sheeting at body connection points may be possible and help. might also wrap the center of the rims with solder wire, 3 wraps stretched electrical tape over with a smear of CA on the end to keep it locked, it'd help lower the center of gravity and aid some traction is the thought anyway. less weight topside, add a little down low, makes sense to me....
    what would be REALLY cool is about 1/4" worth of body lift, about 5/32" more shock travel, and lighter springs to allow a little more+easier suspension articulation. don't want to go TOO far and over stress the 4 rods holding the axles. visually and functionally I'd think that'd be just about right for increasing it's crawling ability, more tire to earth contact.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for all the info! I will look at his channel. I have the kit version too so I will need to open that and take a look at what tires and servo it comes with. I just printed a mount for a servo I have so we can see if it works.

    I don't know why the kit is more than the RTR either. Still, this strikes me as a fun/tinker project so I'd probably get the kit anyways and just pick up a micro servo in the process to bypass that horrid one that comes with it anyways.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard the kit comes with some electronics. Labor is disturbingly cheap in china so I can imagine it has to be that.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes the kit comes with about a 9 gram size servo in it, and the softer tires. mine was missing the strap that holds the servo down in place, but happened to have a screw the right size with a really large flat head on it that pinned it in place really well. the servo comes with grommets and tubes you wont need, put a rubber grommet, then tube, into the steering link top where it meets the servo and a lot of slop goes away

  • @ss9c1
    @ss9c1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol, that steering motor..., frightening huh.
    The RTR can still be the cheaper way to go, my C14 was $28 compared to $56 [at the time] for the kit.
    On Amazon, I can get 5x SG90 mini servos for $12, the hobby grade servo being the difference of the kit.
    Either way you need to supply the hobby grade Receiver, ESC, & battery, which can be had for as low as $19.
    They have a metal parts kit which includes gears, bearings, & driveshafts, & they are releasing a 2 spd gearbox.

      been inside a few of those bang bang steering crawler "servos", little motor has a simple plastic centrifugal clutch driving its gears, very cheap, some better than others but not much! also, check your hammers video, I stumbled into what might be a gem of an easy little budget project

      AMPRO Engineering so what’s the wheelbase on this rig? I’m thinking of getting one and replacing the body with a toy Bronco.

      outside+outside tire to tire width = 14 cm.
      center+center axle to axle = 19 cm for this one.
      tire diameter about 65 mm, tire width about 25 mm.
      for a bronc or jeep body you might need about 1/12 scale

    I am so glad I didn't buy one of these trucks please if you were trying to get into a scale crawler don't waste your $40 unless you are ready to spend hundreds of dollars and hours on upgrading this thing. You were better off to get something else honestly save your money and buy a cco1 Tamiya kit you can get one of those for like a hundred thirty bucks sure you need Electronics but they're so much better than this. Pretty much anything is it's just a toy and that's all it ever will be no matter what you do to it unfortunately

      Well it cost me around $95 or so to build (including the car) and for me, they are all just toys. I mean I did have the radio already so that is money some would need to spend too. Plus, I wanted something small so it has been an awesome little truck.
