Same with the cable issue! I never got one ): But yea, all of the experiences with the headset, including my own that I returned monday week after, have been negative ): very sad. I was hoping something would finally be the "best" pcvr headset for face+eye tracking
I was so upset to find that this headset was a joke. I’ve been really wanting a replacement for my Pro Eye and try to avoid the Zuck in the process. So, seeing this headset I was super excited to see it had QPro features and Vive FT.. Then I got it…
@meaty_yt I think the saddest part is, it reaches beyond just users like yourself who are willing to drop time and money to make this work. In the process of making a cool upgrade and introducing it to the market, a new pcvr headset could have also been the replacement for valve's index, and HOPEFULLY encouraged them to do something else. But until the index is dead, I don't think we'll be seeing anything from valve ): Weird that htc decided to make it *kind* of standalone instead of investing that money in better lenses too.
my index cable broke. was about to get this but i realized vive pro eye cables came back in stock. havent used FT in 8 months and im back again. almost go the XRE with the FT addon lol
Great video. Been thinking alot about the pre order and pussied out. Been waiting for this review cause i was planning on making a review myself when i was thinking about buying the pre order. I have been using the HTC Vive Focus 3 now for 2,5 years and its basically the same as this just without the new features. Just wanted to say i never had any problem with the comfyness of that headsett. Fits perfectly and so nice i sleep with it on most days, but still its clear to me how the fit is not for the majority of people. Also never had a problem with the blurry/clearness of the lenses. Batteries where amazing... just the first few months when they where new. I have two batteries, one last about 30 min and the other lasts about 45 min and thats only after 2,5 years of use. Sad to see they stuck with the same shitty controllers i absolutely hate. Can't use space drag in VRC with theese controllers and the only thing they are good for is scratching your back honestly. The durability on the controllers are really the only great thing with them. Took me 2,5 years for both rings to snap off and wires inside the controller to stop working (keep in mind i did drop, throw, punch and smack these controllers into shit hard for 2,5 year before they broke. I treated them like they where a old nokia phone. Anyways great video review, i will reconsider buying the headset and try and convince myself to buy a quest😭😆
Seems like ya had all the same type of issues I did, so disappointed I had high hopes they were going to do good this time. Just time to go back to the quest with the vive face tracker and to finally finish building the eye trakers.
wow, finally a non-biased non-sponsored review, and of course it's after the pre-purchase! htc would never pay a bunch of random people to say almost nothing about the headset other than "I like it!" or "It's comfortable!", because if someone said something negative about their product then who would ever pre-purchase it?? what on earth is htc actually doing, jeesh.
they pushed out some fixes for face tracking on their discord. I dont use ft but noticed the chatter about it. hoping they make some big fixes before my return window is up.
I'm glad I ended up getting the XR elite. Similar issues for sure, but half the price and lighter for dancing. I hope there's a better wireless headset for dancing soon, the Quest Pro seemed like a very heavy option sadly
I have my doubts Vive will ever fix this headset, but the Vive Pro Eye was very broken on release but it was fixed very quickly but I think that was only because of Valve and Tobi pressure to fix it asap.
I have been using a quest pro for about 6 months and I haven't had any issues with it not working or not doing the face tracking. Having to use a vive or tundra tracker to have it work with FBT kind of sucks but I guess we just have to wait until a new base station headset comes out that supports all face and eye tracking stuff.
You could also look into Vive’s Ultimate Trackers which don’t require base stations as well. Or Pico’s all in one trackers, those can work standalone (I believe) with the quest headsets. For my setup I just use the Space Calibratior for all my trackers and index controllers. Works perfect as long as you have an extra tracker for your headset itself.
@@Realityexe you need a tracker to track the headset. Its required because the pro uses a different tracking tech then the vive trackers. Then you need software to put the 2 different spaces together so they are in the same "play space" and know where each other are.
@AlexFox2040 You don't need a tracker on your headset. You can just calibrate once with your controllers. You only need the fourth tracker on your headset if you don't want to manually calibrate. I use this setup every time I'm in vr
so i met a few ppl in vr using the focs vision and they run a beta update that prity much fixes all of the eye and face tracking issues, But i cant find any one who have reported it in video is it true or are they just teck freaks who been tempering with their stuff untill it works ?
So I kinda mentioned it in the video but I did preorder the headset and it was supposed to come with the Vive wired streaming kit. The kit was delayed about a month… and nowhere on the listing for Amazon or Vive said it would be separate. I was going to attempt using just a USB-C cable but from other people trying that, they said that it can cause the USB ports on your pc or the headset to shutdown &/or overheat. So I decided not to risk it.
I'm so glad it's snug tho. I have a small 21 year old head lol. Even for index was a tad to big lol. I always put a sock on the back to fill the space 🫡
Afaik it doesn't even have the Quest Pro's version of the XR2 Gen 1... HTC just keeps missing... *chuckles in Q Pro that i found for $220* (Also your bali is dull) Lower bandwidth lowers latency. Try Steam Link on the Quest Pro, on 6e, set to 80-130 mbps, with the Foveated encoding set to 800ish pixels. I've gotten sub 12 ms timing, which is good enough for Seat Baber. Virtual Desktop sacrifices a tiny smidge of latency for better visuals
been really wanting to get something to replace my index as its been just so uncomfy to wear but I swear theres just nothing :( wish valve would just make a new headset so I can continue to just use all my base stations and stuff without needed 3rd party stuff
I was hoping the focus vision would be good as it seemed promising to me too. Luckily I didn't pre order it as I heard it's kinda bad. I'm prob just gonna wait for valve to do smthn hopefully soon.
I hope they fix the tracking because I would like to buy this headset in the middle of the next year and I really don't know what else to buy right now because there is literally no new alternative that lets me ditch wireless. And no I hate playing wireless, I have a very nice gaming router but still if a certain someone at my house downloads stuff with his Steamdeck or streams his PS5 screen to his Steamdeck it breaks down my stream and it's never ever really good quality on wireless
I'm with this on this with my network class teacher. No single wireless connection can compare to a hard wired one and I just want that raw uncompressed output from my graphics card also save the performance from the constant compression process on my graphics card when playing wireless
What you what happened to you watch and call tracking thing except VR

XR.E owner w/ full face tracker. Similar issue here on occasion and it's discouraged me from getting on VRC. I looked up the Pro Eye hardware and compared it to the XR.E tracker; they both appear to be the same hardware with the same abilities (120hz tracking cameras and able to see about 110°) I think where something might be different is the software the Pro Eye used. Vive seemed to have made a big deal about the Pro Eye's tracking being handled by Tobii. So I wonder if they're doing their on brew of it and it sucks as a result?
So there are different styles of eye tracking when looking at the Vive and Quest headsets. The Pro Eye has a whole different style that can only be used with Fresnel lenses due to the nature of the build. This style lets the actual camera be located behind the lens entirely. This allows eye dilation and insane accuracy. The Quest Pro, XRE, and Focus Series use camera based which relies on cameras located at the corners of your eyes. This style is more suited for pancake lenses as pancake is too thin / packed to fit cameras behind them. These cameras are accurate but they rely on algorithms to assume your eye movement. Since they are located in the corners, you also cannot (generally) get eye dilation either. So in the end, Tobii knocked it out with their tracking system..

@meaty_yt Behind the lenses?! Well that explains a LOT Now I at least don't feel so dejected and salty about what I feel like is lacklustre performance from my XR.E's tracker setup. Makes me want to get a Pro Eye now but even as old as they are, 500usd for me is still a tough one to justify. I lucked out and got my XR.E lightly used for 340 on eBay. I hope HTC (or someone) sorts this out, the Pro Eye's tracking looks smooth and believable/life-like; you're right in that the smoother the tracking the more genuine the experience is.
@@meaty_yt The bigger part of what's going on here is Tobii. The fundamental issue is that Tobii has had an effective monopoly on eye tracking technology, and they use it to charge excessive licensing fees for it. If the Focus Vision had used Tobii eye tracking, it would probably cost around $1400-1500, rather than $1000. I suspect that Tobii licensing is much of what made the PSVR2 too expensive as well. I believe Tobii's overaggressive pricing is a substantial part of the friction holding back eye tracking in PCVR (and all of VR really). Very few headsets have supported eye tracking, and those that have are pushed into high prices that cause them to sell poorly. So here's Vive trying to roll their own eye tracking so they can offer headsets with this capability at a more reasonable price. That should put some context on why it's not working as well as their older Vive Pro Eye yet, which did use Tobii. We should probably consider having some patience with this. It's a good thing for the VR industry as a whole for other companies to be taking on Tobii and making their own eye tracking. Because we are never going to have affordable VR headsets with eye tracking otherwise (outside of Meta). But it's going to be rough at first while they sort it out.
Definitely recommend upgrading, you definitely don’t have to go overkill like my build but definitely something that supports over 5gb speeds wirelessly. Also helps if the headset is the only thing on the router that’s wirelessly connected.
@@meaty_yt Unfortunately I changed over to a digital gigabit connection and my landline was changed to digital too and my ISP has a proprietary VIOP connection port built in to the Router for the telephone. I'm looking in to daisy chaining 2 router together but from what the forum says it might stop the phone from working.. :S I would just change ISP but I'm not the bill payer.
@@Kobalt2772 this was before & after, I believe Test 1 was pre update and Test 2 & 3 were after. I also talked to a friend today about the update that launched today / last night and it only patched a few things with the lip tracking..
@meaty_yt so the eye jittering was not fixed yet? Did the lip tracking improve? I'm kinda stuck on the fence here. I can cancel my pre-order but honestly I'm not too sure where I can go for an eye tracking headset and I'm not super interested in the quest pro as I had it and didn't like it all too much and had a lot of issues with setting up eye tracking and mouth tracking but it seems consistent for those who use it and beyond the vive eye pro it seems like the only other option. I think the vive eye pro came out while Valve and the other company were still doing HTCs homework. The question in the end is can I trust HTC to actually fix this headset to make its eye tracking quality match/exceed its competitors and previous models
The eye-tracking cannot work with pancake lenses? This is my first time hearing about that. How so? I have an XRE and assumed the eye-tracking would be the same as other Vive headsets.
So there are different styles of eye tracking when looking at the Vive and Quest headsets. The Pro Eye has a whole different style that can only be used with Fresnel lenses due to the nature of the build. This style lets the actual camera be located behind the lens entirely. I'm constantly being dissapointed maaaaaan.. bought Focus 3 to replace my Vive Pro and had high hopes for the "stand alone" trackers but i just got mad instead, trackers are dg sht in smaller places and the headset is uncomfortable as hell (went back to vive pro that i modified with glass lenses years ago and its still a better working that the most of new ones). Ngl i was kinda hopieng for new Focus Vision to be a better replacement for Focus 3.. after seeing your reviev now i know not to but it. I guess we will be waiting for ne VALVE once its released.
It's extremely frustrating how the last headset that was base station-tracked and had good quality eye tracking was the Vive Pro Eye from 2018. All other solutions have either had crippling flaws that make them not worth it, or cost thousands of dollars that are mainly for enterprise use. This headset was an opportunity from HTC to plug that gap in the market but they still failed with yet another heap of overpriced, under-engineered junk. Guess I'll be sticking with my Bigscreen Beyond until the Deckard comes out, whenever that'll happen.
That’s my bad, I really don’t use many human or even any anime styled avatars. The ones I do have are quite outdated in the face tracking and don’t show all the new shapes.
But if you are on a PC and are using ethernet lots of them can create a WIFI hotspot on the computer itself. You should have recorded how much bandwidth is was using streaming at over 1gbit would mean its uncompressed most likely should only really be 100mbit at most
HTC just doesn't have the capability to make this kind of headset correctly. They need to give up on trying to make the high end everything headset and aim for something that they can actually pull off with a low end or mid range featureset. Having purchased an XR Elite and the face tracker, nothing in this video is that surprising to me.
its so wierd its so prosumer like its high price but its got good screens and the vives just better face tracking than the pico or quest but why does it have fresnels whyyyyy

But yea, all of the experiences with the headset, including my own that I returned monday week after, have been negative ): very sad.
But until the index is dead, I don't think we'll be seeing anything from valve ):
Weird that htc decided to make it *kind* of standalone instead of investing that money in better lenses too.
my index cable broke. was about to get this but i realized vive pro eye cables came back in stock. havent used FT in 8 months and im back again. almost go the XRE with the FT addon lol
Thank you for protecting me from a lemon!
Seems like ya had all the same type of issues I did, so disappointed I had high hopes they were going to do good this time. Just time to go back to the quest with the vive face tracker and to finally finish building the eye trakers.
will we get a good consumer vr headset with eye tracking and good mic before gta6?
i came for the test but i stayed to see you laugh at the 'bug eyes' lmao
You gotta love how funny it is tho... trying to squint to turn into bugg eyed XD
wow, finally a non-biased non-sponsored review, and of course it's after the pre-purchase! htc would never pay a bunch of random people to say almost nothing about the headset other than "I like it!" or "It's comfortable!", because if someone said something negative about their product then who would ever pre-purchase it?? what on earth is htc actually doing, jeesh.
I wrote a day one review on Reddit and HTC had it removed from the r/VirtualReality subreddit.
Crap it just got here today in the mail for me 😭😭 now idk if i even wanna try it. I just wanted eye tracking guess ill stick with my index still?
they pushed out some fixes for face tracking on their discord. I dont use ft but noticed the chatter about it. hoping they make some big fixes before my return window is up.
Thanks for the video! HTC really dropped the ball with this one...
I'm confused on the fbt thing. You kinda need trackers to track things
@@meaty_yt yea, they are expensive and they don't run as long.
@AlexFox2040 You don't need a tracker on your headset. You can just calibrate once with your controllers. You only need the fourth tracker on your headset if you don't want to manually calibrate. I use this setup every time I'm in vr
so i met a few ppl in vr using the focs vision and they run a beta update that prity much fixes all of the eye and face tracking issues,
But i cant find any one who have reported it in video is it true or are they just teck freaks who been tempering with their stuff untill it works ?
ive been thinking about saving for this and kinda been waiting for someone to review it as a vrc player XD are you able to play with it wired?
*chuckles in Q Pro that i found for $220*
(Also your bali is dull)
Lower bandwidth lowers latency. Try Steam Link on the Quest Pro, on 6e, set to 80-130 mbps, with the Foveated encoding set to 800ish pixels. I've gotten sub 12 ms timing, which is good enough for Seat Baber.
Virtual Desktop sacrifices a tiny smidge of latency for better visuals
i'm sorry WHAT
I Get like 50ms in virtual desktop and my router is right nxt to me
The camel on the headset looks like it comes on the Amazon movie
7:43 XD QUE CHINGAOS LE PASA A SU CARA JAJAJA XDDDDDD
how do you get face tracking working on avatars
@6:24 nose tracking?
been really wanting to get something to replace my index as its been just so uncomfy to wear but I swear theres just nothing :( wish valve would just make a new headset so I can continue to just use all my base stations and stuff without needed 3rd party stuff
Compillation of stoned ah avatar expressions 😂😂 love it
Maybe a bit unrelated. I've had issues with the antlion wireless attachers snapping in half from the magnet. Has that happened for u?
Oof no I haven’t!
i got the focus and i dont have that ishu try and use vrchat inbuilted eyetraking on the pupper avatar
you an see some vidio with me using the pupper avatar with it
What you what happened to you watch and call tracking thing except VR
XR.E owner w/ full face tracker. Similar issue here on occasion and it's discouraged me from getting on VRC.
I looked up the Pro Eye hardware and compared it to the XR.E tracker; they both appear to be the same hardware with the same abilities (120hz tracking cameras and able to see about 110°)
I think where something might be different is the software the Pro Eye used.
Well that explains a LOT
Now I at least don't feel so dejected and salty about what I feel like is lacklustre performance from my XR.E's tracker setup.
My Quest Pro does the Dragging thing when the wireless connection is poor. My ISP Router is terrible.
I would just change ISP but I'm not the bill payer.
Why does it make you go cross side?
Someone needs to use this with a pennywise avi, the eye drift would just be character accurate
maybe the face and eye tracking is better with updates
I know an update for their eye tracking came out yesterday for the eye tracking, was this recorded before or after that update?

@@meaty_yt I tried so hard to get the eye-dillation to respond, thank you for filling me in lol.
@@Daniel-op1md eye Dilation does work on this headset, it's being disabled.
@@Benrexbolt The XRE? How come?
I'm constantly being dissapointed maaaaaan.. bought Focus 3 to replace my Vive Pro and had high hopes for the "stand alone" trackers but i just got mad instead, trackers are dg sht in smaller places and the headset is uncomfortable as hell (went back to vive pro that i modified with glass lenses years ago and its still a better working that the most of new ones). Ngl i was kinda hopieng for new Focus Vision to be a better replacement for Focus 3.. after seeing your reviev now i know not to but it. I guess we will be waiting for ne VALVE once its released.
my cable was delayed and was told thy wouldn't ship the headset till it was also available ....
Bruhhh
Does it work for standalone vrchat for eye tracking and face tracking or do you need a pc for it??
It does not, at least not in my testing. VRChat also does not natively support lip / full face tracking, only eyes at the moment.
@@meaty_ytok so you saying that eye tracking works standalone vrchat but not face tracking right?
i had so high hopes for the headset. big sad. great review and showcase for fellow vrc players
What a disappointment :(
Thanks for taking time to review and record, edit and share with us. Really helpfull
thanks for this video, so useful! it would have been nice to have at least one reference of a human-like avatar
That’s my bad, I really don’t use many human or even any anime styled avatars. The ones I do have are quite outdated in the face tracking and don’t show all the new shapes.
@meaty_yt that's understandable anyways the video is really helpful already 👍
Fresnel lenses just seems like a 80s thing and pancakes are 1990 version. And for double the prices ?
But if you are on a PC and are using ethernet lots of them can create a WIFI hotspot on the computer itself. You should have recorded how much bandwidth is was using streaming at over 1gbit would mean its uncompressed most likely should only really be 100mbit at most
That def woulda been a good idea, again I’m not professional at all in this and I’m definitely learning what to show 🥺
HTC just doesn't have the capability to make this kind of headset correctly. They need to give up on trying to make the high end everything headset and aim for something that they can actually pull off with a low end or mid range featureset. Having purchased an XR Elite and the face tracker, nothing in this video is that surprising to me.
its so wierd
its so prosumer
like its high price but its got good screens and the vives just better face tracking than the pico or quest
but why does it have fresnels
whyyyyy
Also if it makes you feel better i pre ordered my fovud vision on the 15th and still 0 updated and mines have been layed and someone pre ordered there 2 days after on Amazon and got it in like around 2 dayd and im like bruh but i guess they did give people that were delayed a 25 dollar giftcard to vive which i feel is nice
