At 74 years young, i finely saved enough to get a Meta Quest 3 512g. I am very happy with it and i am very grateful for your review, Thank You. As my experience with and understanding of vr slowly grows i find the perceived needs and accessories needed to enhance my journey into vr is a strain on the budget. I need a younger mind, more experienced with this world to help with the must get items as i improve my personal exploration. I only wish there were real brick and mortar stores with people that use vr and are informed with the accessories that are sold. I guess that really dates me. As age creeps up on me, i am seeking more AI input with the content i work with, mainly science, world travel, and remote space exploration, self care, as well as civilized conversations and debate with people as my ability to get out of the house diminishes. I see a great need for elder engagement/care that vr/mr/xr coupled with AI would bring to the table for consideration as we age.
Love to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. =) Please don't hesitate to come back and ping me here, if you have any questions or need help finding something specific.
The single biggest upgrade is a bobovr m3 max headstrap w extra battery and fast charging dock. You no longer have to worry about battery life. I also bought kiwi silicone controller covers w built in straps. The last thing I'd say would be a new face pad. That's only if u need a aftermarket face pad. Im ok w the stock pad as it doesn't bother me. One of my favorite things to do w mine is watch movies on a giant screen. I also play a ton of games. Enjoy and have fun
@parkersgarage4216 - Agreed! I've spent the past 6 months testing all the headstraps and battery solutions - the BoboVR S3 Pro / M3 Max came out at the top of my list (video will be out in a couple weeks). I can also second Kiwi accessories - and their headstrap if you prefer over-the-head style headstraps (BoboVR is a halo style).
@aline.tech.reviews ive never tried a their strap. I love the m3 max headstrap. That coupled with a spare battery and fast charger is game changing. I love you can play as long as u want and never worry about battery life. The s3 pro is good I just didn't see the need for the fan. I seen it as a not needed battery drain for me. Im sure some may like it and actually need it. I second the kiwi accessories as well. I love the silicone controller covers w straps. Makes swapping out batteries simple. I forgot to mention rechargeable aa batteries. I bought a pack of Duracell 2600mah. That too is a needed purchase. I always have fresh batteries at the ready when needed.
@joannawhite1841 I forgot to mention rechargeable aa batteries w 2500-2600mah. You don't have to buy controller batteries. You also always have fresh ones at the ready. You want the higher mah rating due to demanding loads. Meaning they will last longer before needing changed. The kiwi straps also make changing batteries simple. You pull the battery cover to the side and change. No need to remove anything at all. Quick and simple
This is one of the best, high quality reviews I've ever seen on TH-cam. So many of the reviews out there just cover the hype and make it sound amazing. I appreciate the honesty and detailed real world applications. Now I can set my expectations more accurately as I look to upgrade from my Quest 2. I can't believe you have less than 5,000 subscribers. Really hope this review keeps that number growing!
@burrisvideos: I can only strongly agree!! This review was awesome! Every aspect is covered in a very clear manner. At the end I felt exactly like your comment, that this is just a perfect review how it should be done. Then I watched the number of subscribers and I misread it lol I thought 6.9 millions subscribers and I felt like "Of course the review is great, he's a pro with infinite budget", then I read the number again and I couldn't believe my eyes that such quality work is so badly rewarded! I'm subscribing without any hesitation!
I've had zero experience with VR and I have the Meta Quest 3 coming on Monday. I'm a 64 year old PC gamer since the 80's so I'm very excited about this. GREAT REVIEW!! Thank you. You made me feel like I made the right choice for my needs!
Wooooot! Thanks for taking the time to watch. I think you're going to love it! I still believe it's the best VR headset for first-timers; you are getting such an amazing value without skimping on quality. There's a ton of potential use cases and scenarios to explore. It's the only headset on the market I'd buy, as a consumer, at the moment; the next best option right now is to wait for another company's release.
@@Tylorgng. Regrettably, it wasn't for me. I will not say it wasn't incredible. But it turned out that for the same reason I can't use a CPAP for my sleep apnea, it also made wearing the headset rather uncomfortable. I returned it for a refund. Maybe you can't teach this old dog new tricks after all.
The video is already a few months old but I wanted to take a few minutes to congratulate you. I have really viewed a lot of reviews (or supposedly so) and opinions in general and I have to say that your analysis is without a shadow of a doubt the most thorough and accurate, as well as being also very objective, without easy enthusiasms. Also the editing, really well done: high quality and many examples. Really good.
I really, really appreciate that! I spent a lot of time thinking about what I would like to see in a review / what I felt was missing from most reviewers I watch on TH-cam and really attacked from that angle. It's extremely reassuring to know that it resonates with you and that there are folks that appreciate the details as I do. I plan to keep this style of reviewing! I am working on optimizing the process so that I can get videos out more quickly and turn this into a full-time career. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave such a lovely comment.
The constant word "gimmicky" and "novelty" wear off doesn't sound like a none bias and more like opinion and believe. I got a Quest 2 for 3 years and is one of the best gaming entertainment there is and plus motion controllers works very well and its potential goes beyond any device I tried for 30 plus years that I would not call it gimmick or novelty because is the only device that have potential to replace almost everything
@@toututu2993it is an opinion from him, most of his things are just consistently spewed things. the head strap isn't bad, productivity is good, and it's also an old review.
As a fellow Quest 3 owner, I have to say. Pretty spot on. It's my first VR device, so I'm content to wait. Enough on my plate to try out atm, personally. I have at least 40 games I want to try and that's not to mention the biggest game will release later this week
Quest is really working well for pcvr games, only two I can't get running are, no man's sky, and elite dangerous, my laptop isn't powerful enough. Just freezes and crashes.
I really appreciate that. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave such an inspiring comment! I'm working on my process so I can get videos out more consistently in 2024.
TLDR: Likely the best tech reviewer I have found on youtube - You are by far, the most detailed, straight to the point, honest, but entertaining tech reviewer I have found yet. I honestly don’t know how you are such a small channel, because your reviews are such high quality. (I also appreciate that you are small in the way that you can interact with your community easier lol) I don’t normally put youtubers on such a high pedestal but I feel your content quality 100% deserves it! Thank you for being awesome and you have earned yourself another sub!
I truly appreciate that! ♥ Thanks for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. You confirm that the insane amount of effort is worth it, and inspire me to keep pushing forward. I'm working hard behind the scenes to optimize my scripting & filming processes in order to get videos out more quickly. There's going to be another week or so gap before I lock that in, so I appreciate your patience in sticking with me!
You are smmmmmashing it dude! Professional, informative and entertaining content such as this is incredibly rare on TH-cam. normally inducing some level of physical pain from the cringe they seem to obsessively add nowadays. If I was rich I would fund the s**t out of your channel. Godspeed
The headset actually is being sold at a loss. It costs $478 to produce and with fulfillment and shipping it is close to if not surpassing the $500 price tag. It is heavily subsidized with game sales and first party accessories.
Agreed! I believe in this video I stated the estimates a supply chain analyst and tech enthusiast have come up with separately were ~$200 in subsidization
Truly, excellent video. So refreshing to see a no nonsense, straightforward, realistic and not hype-trainy overview of the headset. As someone who is really into vr and has been following this space for a long time, this is my favorite video I’ve seen on the subject in a while. Keep it up, I’ll definitely be subscribing. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow 😁
I really appreciate that, it means a lot. I've made a conscious decision to focus my channel on this path and avoid falling into the TH-cam trap of being overly hyped to get free products and sponsorships (I noticed an overhwleming number these "overhyped" reviews on my feed over the past 6 years). Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave such a lovely comment!
@@aline.tech.reviewsfinally someone I can actually watch and listen to without wanting to stick a blowtorch in my ear. Really useful information delivered in a way that doesn't make me want to self harm. 👍
I’ve seen about 6 reviews and only this review hit all the spots of concern. Haven’t finished yet, but you’ve helped me pick storage, and elaborated on the lenses. Well done
Incredible video. Balanced, to the point, grounded, fair in assessing pros and cons, insightful across many different areas... even unexpected areas that end up being welcome topics of discussion. Great job.
This is one of the best reviews of any product I have ever seen on TH-cam. Great pacing and you always compare the actual product with your personal expecations and I really liked that all the cuts to other videos and screencaptures always supported what was said in the video, other channels seem to cut away randomly just to show something without purpose, I don't like that. Good luck with your channel!
I truly appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to provide the lovely feedback. I plan to stay consistent with all of these video elements!
Well said. I may be an early adopter, the quest 3 may not be fully fleshed out yet, but i cant help but enjoy seeing this tech grow and im glad to be a part of it. Ive been enjoying Exercise, games, meditation, and im dabbling in multi monitor productivity learning blender. You say the resolution isnt the best for productivity, but scaling my monitor to 43"-50" is nice for not needing to squint at my 27" display, also being tall is a pain in the ass, so its nice to have that virtual monitor positioned higher up than my desk allows, sparing my spine haha. It may be the 3rd generation, but its definitely advanced enough to be taken more seriously as a commercial product than a novelty game console imo. Cheers on the great review!
Definitely agree with that - I feel like the Quest 3 has crossed that threshold to where this is real and usable for more than just games and tech demos. And haha, as a fellow tall person I definitely understand. I've also enjoyed having the ability to lean way back in my chair and look up with my head back and still see my screens (something I can't do with my static monitors). And I appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a thoughtful comment!
Truly appreciate that, thank you! And yea, apologies for that - the mic quality was my fault, I boosted the bass too much. This is fixed in my upcoming videos. The mic is $850 and awesome, so 100% user error.
Very accurate breakdown. I personally thought my favorite experiences would be graphically detailed games like Red Matter 2 but it turned out that, much like flatscreen games, what really mattered was fun gameplay mechanics and good controls. I’m slowly trying a variety of different games that have been out for a bit to figure out what I like most before buying new expensive games that might be disappointing if they haven’t been updated for Q3 yet or if it turns out that type of game is not as interesting to me as I thought.
Right there with you! I do enjoy the visual fidelity too though - can recommend the Games Optimizer app if you don't already have it (it allows you to supersample/overclock so you can get a better visual experience from some of the lower-fidelity games). I fell into the trap there, too. I didn't end up liking Assassin's Creed parkour mechanics very much and the gameplay is also very 'meh'. I wish I hadn't spent the money on it.
I find myself playing the games you can get in and out of quickly, like Pinball fx, Golf+ etc. I have to say I purchased Red Matter 2 and I'm not that far in, but I am finding it kind of boring. Like you said, the graphics are nice and I know this is very popular game- but it's not doing a lot for me at the moment. I will keep plugging away at it though.
@@silversubaru590I take it you've played it and are not a huge fan as of yet, either. It's weird cuz I like some puzzle games- the Room VR was one of my favorite games on the Quest so far. I still have not yet gone back to start playing Red Matter 2 though.
I truly appreciate that, thank you so much for the support! And you're absolutely right (as unfortunate as it may be). I don't accept paid reviews and promotions, even though I'm getting real offers now, because of the obvious: it would create an unstable and untrustworthy review environment. However, this type of content takes months to create and that lack of income makes it much more difficult to break through the veil to making TH-cam a full-time career, since my actual job has to keep focus. I'm going for it here in 2025, though! I'll check in with you in 2026 to see if I made it.
Like most of the comments posted here, this is probably the best in depth review of the Meta Quest 3 you will find. Straight to point, clear and exactly everything you need to know about the device. Thank You.
As someone who also owns a Quest 3, I definitely agree! This is a great summary. I love the categories you divided this video into and find your opinion very reasonable. I love that the video is so thought through. Visually speaking, I think that you also did a great job recording and editing it and I truly enjoy the sound of your voice. I rarely comment on videos but you did such an exceptional job, I just had to let you know. :)
I truly appreciate that! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave such a wonderful comment. I hope you will let me know if I ever miss the mark in the future!
I thought the comments were taking the piss when they were saying this was an amazing review. Incredible work, the script flows nice, the editing is smooth and not distracting. You addressed hype and compared it to the reality. It's a shame you haven't made more videos on other stuff, though this looks a lot more like a passion project, I'll be sure to checkout your video latest video and see what another 6 months brings.
I truly appreciate that! Thank you for the kind words. And I definitely understand the lapse in videos; it's unfortunate. I'm catching up here this fall/winter, and will start posting regularly. I think the universe was just testing me to see how badly I wanted it.. a lot of crazy things happened back-to-back in my life, and on top of all that bad stuff, I had to scrap 3 videos because they were too outdated by time I got to editing them (the Rabbit R1 was one of them). I'm in Austin, TX right now for the Immersed Visor event and I get to try the headset for the first time on Thursday! I'll be posting my first impressions of that this week + I have 3x new Quest 3 videos schedule to release over the next 1.5 months.
Really loving the quest 3s improved resolution. First upgrade since rift s and running wirelessly at 120 hz 120% res from a 4090 pc is so much better than I would have expected. Being able to move around the entire basement is wild.
@@aline.tech.reviews I second that... I never expected to enjoy a 40 minute video on a headset I already own. (I have owned all the Quest headsets, including the Pro.)
@@JorgTheElder - That means a lot, thank you so much. Curious, you hanging onto the Pro still? Is just collecting dust now that you've got the Quest 3 or do you still have use for it?
W content bro. Stayed on subject, no unnecessary rambling about things that doesn’t have to do with the topic, no stupid memes and stuff throughout your video. Video quality is beautiful. 👌🏾
This was one of the best VR reviews I've ever seen. I share your lofty expectations, and I really appreciate your honesty when talking about the current state of the hardware/software in relation to what it could be. Just subscribed, thanks!
I'm shocked to see you only have about 7k subs, the production quality is top notch. There's no doubt this channel is gonna blow up in the future. Really great review, I subbed!
That was one hell of a review. Good job sir! I have PSVR2 so don’t want or need a Quest 3, however I stayed till the end due to the sheer informativeness of your video.
Fantastic review. I appreciate how you called out tech specs and required apps, blending that with actual device recordings. The review seemed neutral, not sales pitchy in the slightest.
I really appreciate that, thank you so much for taking the time to watch! And leaving a comment - words like this really do inspire me to keep pushing.
I've seen a lot of reviews and opinions on the Quest 3 and this one is by far the best one. You analyzed every aspect in an objective and wise way. Kudos
I truly appreciate that, thank you! I am waaayyy behind schedule due to an illness in the family, but I am planning to start posting again before end of February! I have 3 reviews in the works, 1 is a comparison of all the top Quest 3 batrery solutions.
Ayyooo, thank you - and fingers crossed! I've got my eyes set on 50k+ and I'm finally back home and working on writing my next videos (haven't been able to for like 6 months).. so hopefully we can make some progress this year.
@aline.tech.reviews yo your beat Sabre link has exceeded the amount of invites and I was wondering if you could add a link for Les Miles body combat these are two games I want to buy to use for exercise and also welcomed any other suggestions for good workout games.
i normally skip to the point i want to hear with reviews or even skim the video, but man, this has got to be the most invested ive been in any review, you have such a informative (while also being entertaining) way of talking about things and it got me hooked watching the video all the way through, amazing review, i seriously cannot believe you dont have more attention, keep up the amazing work. i also peeked at the community tab and i hope everything is okay and my condolences, have a blessed day
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave such a thoughtful comment. It's extremely reassuring to know that this style of review is worth the effort.. and I'll try to keep up this style for my upcoming AR glasses reviews (I have the XREAL Air 2 Pro, TCL RayNeo x2, and Apple Vision Pro all sitting here waiting for me to finish writing and start filming). I have to get out a video on this silly Rabbit R1 AI device before those, just because it's topical and might not be around for too long LOL. And thanks again ♥ - I'm finally back home and recovered; I am writing my next video scripts now and hope to release like 5-6 videos in the next 2 months to try to catch up.
@@aline.tech.reviews I havent watch some of the shorter videos but i'll definitely give some a watch, but this long video definitely kept me in and you have a good way of keeping interest in the subject/tech you're reviewing, cant wait, i got the notifs on and everything
Just bought a quest 3 for a Christmas gift. This video has been out for 11 months now. How many of the problems in this video have been fixed or improved? Is there more mixed reality games now for example? Overall incredible review tho
Great to hear! I have a new video coming out next month with all the updates from the year and my updated thoughts, but for a quick brain vomit: there have been a ton of updates in that time and Meta has been constantly adding new quality-of-life features, they've added a bunch of new tools to make spatial computing work more like the Apple Vision Pro (where you can spread multiple windows out around you, and access things like your browser from inside the game you're playing), lay down mode, an AI voice assistant that can open apps for you, graphics improvements, keyboard improvements, and so on.. They've improved the passthrough quality a bit, but it's not a night-and-day difference by any means - they've improved the colors for sure. The latest update is also bringing a whole new UI/UX that should fix a lot of my issues with the poor navigation design. Still the best bang-for-your-buck headset on the market, IMO - and I highly recommend it still.
As many others have said, this review was one of the best I’ve ever seen for any product. You had no filler, stayed on point, and still covered a massive range of information. I wish all reviews could be even half as good as this one. Thank you for putting so much effort into making this video.
Great video! You've pushed in so much information in 40min video! I'm glad you set the correct expectation for working from vr. I'm using immersed as well for quite a while now and can't wait for the visor to the released as well.
I really appreciate that! Thank you for taking the time to watch. And yesss, I'm so excited for it. I hope 4k per eye is enough to make it worthy of daily use.
This is a really really good review, and probably the best Quest 3 review on TH-cam. I did notice a couple minor technical inaccuracies when you talked about the tracking that you might want to be aware of: 11:33 The latency shown here in the video is between the color cameras and the controller tracking. The real delay between your actual hands and the controllers is much smaller. You can see this from the fact that the camera image in your video is lagging behind the controllers and not the other way around; anecdotally, looking at the controllers and my actual hands side-by-side there's not any noticeable latency even in fast movements. There is a large amount of latency with hand tracking, which you can view with just the color cameras. The model of the hand will lag behind even what you see in the headset. 12:03 Hand tracking is not used to correct the position or rotation of the controllers in any way. Each controller has an IMU that's used to approximate its position when tracking fails. The footage you show at 12:06 of your finger moving smoothly between position is actually a result of the touch sensor in the trigger, and not hand tracking. You can test this by keeping your finger on the trigger and moving it horizontally from edge to edge - the same animation of the finger will occur. Again, awesome review. I just thought you might want to be aware of these things :)
Truly appreciate that, and thanks for taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment! This level of engagement and thoughtfulness means a lot to me. =) For your first point, I thought so as well. However, from my testing the camera passthrough latency isn't that dramatic (I tested this by moving single fingers with hand tracking off, in which case the latency window feels incredibly small, and also by turning lights on and off). In the video and IRL, there is quite a large gap between the rendered version and the camera version, which suggests a much larger latency than what I observe from the cameras alone. What I *think* I found is that the controller/hand overlays are trying to predict where you're going next and draw in that predicted location instead of the true position. I was able to convince myself of this with hand tracking tests and confirmed the Quest 3 software tries to project where it thinks the hand is going next on the overlay version. It would be helpful if you could test the same for me to see if I'm way off base here: with hand tracking only, if you move your hand to the left and stop abruptly, the overlay of your hand will stay ahead of your hand always and, even after you've stopped moving your hand in real life, will continue to the left and then "teleport" or jump back to where your hand actually is. You can do it again with an object that impedes your hand from possibly moving any further in one direction, and then see your rendered hand go over top the object that stopped your hand before it jumps back to where your hand actually is. ^^ Therefore, I think it's a healthy mix of the two; the prediction piece seems to cause more of the disconnect between my brain than what little latency seems to exist. I presume this prediction exists to try to help offset some of that perceived latency. I have noticed a much greater latency with hand tracking on the Apple Vision Pro, even though it has less passthrough camera latency on paper.. which makes me think it's less about passthrough latency and more about the rendering/behind-the-scenes that causes the offset. For your second point, you are completely right about the finger positioning. My take was 100% incorrect and does NOT demonstrate the concept I was referring to. How I confirmed this is by using my middle finger to touch the button and seeing that the pointer finger is the one that goes down but not until you touch the capacitive trigger (it's the same with the capacitive buttons and joystick on top with the thumb). ^^ While my original understanding was definitely wrong, it doesn't confirm nor deny the claim in totality, as it could just mean this is a fixed state when controllers sensors are in view. Let me try to find my original source on this one to make sure I didn't make it up! IIRC, my source for this was from an interview with a Meta employee that claimed hand tracking is used, especially when the controllers are facing away (when the IR sensors are occluded or above/below a visible area). Again, truly appreciate the engagement and open conversation! I will continue to make mistakes or understand things incorrectly, and hope there are more realbubbles to help catch them.
@@aline.tech.reviews I think that "prediction" behavior for controllers has to do with how frequently the controllers are tracked per second - this behavior happens more with lower tracking frequencies (you'll Beatsaber players complain about this a lot, LOL. The term used is "swing bug"). I'm not sure if you can change the controller tracking frequency, but in experimental settings you should be able to change the hand tracking frequency. You'll notice that the problem is worse on 60hz than 120hz tracking frequency. For controllers, it could also be the IMUs sending bad movement data at high speeds and then that being corrected with IR tracking, causing the jump from the wrong position to the correct one. Also, for me at least it's hard to get a good feel on how much latency the camera passthrough really has. I had the same experience where just moving my hands with the hand tracking off felt pretty instantaneous, but doing something like spinning around in a circle while holding my hand out ended up with my hand in passthrough being a pretty significant distance behind my real hand. I would maintain that the controllers are probably a more accurate representation of where the actual hands are (in terms of latency) rather than passthrough. For hand tracking in particular: In the past, the cameras had to switch between different settings to be able to track your hands and controllers, so it wasn't possible to use them at the same time. Multimodal tracking was added to the Quest Pro because those controllers are self-tracked. For the Quest 3, multimodal tracking was recently made available to certain developers and users via the experimental tab but it wasn't when the video was released and from what I can gather it's not used to supplement controller tracking just yet. I'm not sure if they've changed the way hand tracking works to achieve this, if it's just using the front-facing color cameras for hand tracking and the additional cameras for IR, or if it's some other fancy solution along those lines. I vaguely remember an interview like the one you're talking about, so I don't think you're going crazy haha. But I also don't think such a thing is implemented yet. Thank you for your in-depth and totally unexpected response !! It's clear you've given this a lot of thought, and I appreciate that same attention to detail you put in your reviews.
THANK YOU for providing informative and direct reviews. I'm so tired of having to wait through a TH-camr telling me about their life, dog, and breakfast before getting to the point. The last thing I want to hear is "What's up guys!"..… I just came for the facts. Please don't change your format. SUBSCRIBED
I truly appreciate that; thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment! I agree with your preferred style of video and I plan to keep this format with some optimization improvements. =)
😄. Appreciate that! And yes, this video took longer than expected to produce due to work + holidays + editing time. I hope to get into the flow of weekly videos here. TUC Pro 40-minute review should be live next week!
Thanks for this review - much more grounded. I was shocked by just how poor the passthrough is, so I was glad to find this review that indicates it’s not a problem with my headset - just all headsets. Having upgraded from a quest 1, it’s not as big a leap as I’d hoped for in all areas. Those claiming the quest 3 is an Apple pro cheaper alternative are completely deluded
I hope you do another follow up follow up video as I believe it has undergone some more updates that should have enhanced the experience. I'd love to hear your thoughts as this video was fantastic and very helpful.
Excellent review. This was my favorite of the dozen or so reviews I've seen. You covered the topics I was interested in. You spoke well. The cadence of your voice and pacing was good.
Truly appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to watch and let me know! I've upgraded my studio, cameras, fixed the audio issues, and am trying to control my hands in my incoming content. Hoping for an even more successful run here!
I really had to double check the subscriber count, I can't believe such a high quality review came from a small channel with 5k subscribers, the video is so high quality if someone told me it was stolen from a channel with 1 million subscribers I would have believed it, I will slap the like button just to help you out with the algorithm, Thank you for the review.
I truly appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to watch and help out! Crazy enough, this video alone has given me 3k of those. I'm working on lots more in hopes of making this my full-time career.
Great review. I work in immersed a lot and the secret is to move the screens AWAY from you and make them larger - your eyes want to rest on a screen that's a bit further away from you, I find this helps with eye strain massively.
Great review! Also in Bobovr you can remove the facemask and the quest will hold up like a quest pro. Allows you to not suffer so much from pressure in AR games/programs, sometimes it breaks the immersion a bit, as in a multi-monitor program, but in most AR content contrary adds to the feel-good quality of the immersive experience
Appreciate that; thank you for watching! I've tried without the facepad for virtual screens and found that it causes a lot of reflections on the lenses from other light sources/windows behind me. I prefer how much cooler it is on my face, but the reflections are too distracting for me to work =( I will try it for AR/MR experiences to see how it works for me.
I truly appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to watch. And lolol, yea - not sure what's going on there.. I've noticed this phenomenon on my e-ink device reviews as well. There's a very passionate group of users that I was NOT expecting in both niches - it's almost as if they base their own worth on their tech choices.
That's a tough one - without a gaming PC, you'd be limited to standalone games. There's a lot of them, but there's very few 'great' ones. Honestly, I think you'd be better off trying the PSVR2.. that way you can utilize your existing gaming console. I know you didn't like the PSVR1, assuming that wasn't related to the games but rather the headset itself, then the PSVR2 seems like your best bet. I've read that they are launching PC support, so you would also be able to play PCVR games in the future if you ever end up getting gaming PC. From what I've read, the Quest 3 is inherently better in terms of visuals and just the overall number things you can do with it (I've never tried a PSVR1 or PSVR2). The PSVR2 is also on super sale right now - you can get it for $349 vs the $500 for the Quest 3.
Excellent video. I wish I had watched this before our purchase!!! I run my VR with a fan blowing on my face didn't know my eye balls could swet lol!!! Thank you
@@aline.tech.reviewsyou could say that again lol! I used to play in my garage in my quest 2 and it reached 30-35 degrees Celsius in there even with a fan!
11:30 I think it's important to note here that the tracking isn't lagging behind, the passthrough video feed is. The controllers are tracked very precisely, but turning the photos from all of those cameras into a 3D experience a hundred times a second takes some processing
Check out the other comments on this! I spoke backwards in the video, but that lead to us doing lot of testing, because the passthrough cameras didn't seem to be that laggy. It seems like what's happening is a combination, but the largest noticeable piece seems to be that the controllers are being projected into the future - it's trying to predict where they're going to be. Maybe to counteract the slight passthrough lag? To confirm this, we put a board in front of us and then ran our hand into it - the physical controller stops, but the virtual version keeps going through the board and then "snaps back" into place when it catches up. So definitely true, but it seems to be a combination of the two causing the issue.
That's super exciting, and I think you're going to love it for PCVR! The visuals are more crisp than I expected. SteamLink also just launched a week or so ago, which is a free alternative to Virtual Desktop. I appreciate that and thank you for taking the time to watch!!
I'm not entirely sure why I watched this, seeing as I own one and love it. Your comments are spot on. This review is definitely the least biased review I've seen on TH-cam. And you're 110% spot on with the price. The fact that this costs less than a smartphone is insane.
😄. Well, I appreciate you taking the time to watch! And agreed - it's mind-blowing; I could've literally bought two and a half Quest 3's for what my phone cost (that I honestly barely use, outside listening to music and messaging, and does NOT need the processing power that it has).
Fantastic in-depth and organized review 💚 Super helpful! I definitely want to delve into VR after trying out a friend's psvr2. I want the best of the best and have been waiting for the Apple ProVision. However, whilst it seems it will definitely do mixed reality, movies, puzzles, meditation, and productivity, etc., the best (which as a filmmaker/video editor, is most of what I will use it for), I would still like to do some gaming and I have a good feeling it won't play nice with the Meta or PCVR storefront and apps. So considering getting the Quest 3. Seems to be the best and the best bang for the buck out now. In the near future I would definitely love a Quest 3 Pro and Valve to release their second rendition
I truly appreciate that! Yea, I think the bang for the buck you can't beat the Quest 3. Even if you would absolutely benefit from the 4k resolution per eye of the Apple Vision Pro, you could get the Quest 3 ($500) + Immersed Visor (4k OLED per eye @ $1000) and get both experiences for less than half the price. You would only lose a higher resolution mixed reality camera experience (of which there isn't anything good that exists for yet anyways). I don't feel the Apple internals + ecosystem + gimmicky experiences are going to be worth it. Also interested to see if Valve is actually going to release a next gen device.
Actually a super viable combo with the Quest 3 and Visor thanks for the recommendation! Looking it up now. Unfortunately no reviews out for the Visor so going to wait to see how it compares to the ProVision. Hopefully you end up being able to review it. Yeah I don’t like the secluded environment Apple creates, though at least it is generally a smooth experience and the products all communicate easily with one another. The main thing I like that they’re doing opposed to other companies is using more metal/glass in their products rather than plastic. I like any company that does slightly better to be environmentally conscious. But if the Visor ends up being a way better bang for the buck after reviews for both, I’ll get that 🤙🏽
This review is pretty spot on. I think there are 3 improvements they need to make until VR headsets are going to be common household item. 1. The size and weight 2. Longer battery (perhaps at least 3 hours and fast charge capability) 3. Passthrough camera upgrade (way too blurry IMO, and like u mentioned, best for just seeing what's going on around you) I'm still thinking about returning the quest 3 as I already have the quest 2. The image quality is much sharper and clearer when reading text, that's for sure but graphics is not much different IMO. I want to use this mainly for work but I feel like the experience would be much better if those 3 things are improved on
Appreciate that, and agree with your improvements - I'd prioritize #2 and #3. I think we'd all live with it if it was a few grams heavier but lasted 3x as long. What kind of work do you do? If you're wanting virtual screens, I would check out the "Immersed Visor" - it is promising quite a bit for an insanely fair price (at cost); it won't be released until next year but worth following if you're wanting that use case. It's being made by the team who created ImmersedVR as they're trying to add a hardware play to make their enterprise offerings more appealing to clients.
@@aline.tech.reviews I work in the IT industry (software development, kind of. its low code, no code development). As for the Immersed Visor, that was the next thing i was goin to look at after finishing this video. That does piqued my interest.
Congratulations for the video. Very thorough analysis and well-explained. Do you think it's worth it coming from the Quest 2? I'm interested in augmented reality for working with the piano
What do you do in AR on the piano? If you're planning to use an app like PianoVision, then it's probably not worth the upgrade. It's effectively "Guitar Hero" but for the piano (it simply drops notes and you have to hit them on time"), and doesn't work well unless you have a MIDI keyboard connected directly to the Quest 3 headset. The virtual keyboard, if you don't have a MIDI keyboard, does NOT work well enough with hand tracking to be useful. RE: Quest 2 vs. 3, it's worth the upgrade if you absolutely need the upgraded cameras for AR/XR experiences - the cameras are no doubt better (just keep in mind it's still blurry - reminiscent of an old 720p webcam).. or if you use your Quest 2 a lot and want the upgraded visuals. Otherwise, I'd stick with the Quest 2.
@@aline.tech.reviews Thank you very much for your answer! As a musician who started to use Unity and Unreal Engine, I wanted to work in the creation of immersive experiences for musicians, but for piano players is quite difficult to use VR (you can't see your hands). Maybe I can ask Santa Claus to help me with the upgrade... Thank you very much and congratulations again for your super high-quality content!
Aha! If you're creating immersive experiences, then I would definitely get Santa to help out with the upgrade and potentially sell your Quest 2. I think the upgrade, in your case, is worth it! You will want the latest and greatest to develop on. The camera quality + capabilities of the Quest 3 will help you "make more" - and I hope you can help make the ecosystem better!
I appreciate that! I'm dropping a massive Quest 3 battery comparison in the next couple weeks here - gonna try to time it for Meta' summit event Sept 26.
11:37 it's not actually the controllers lagging behind, but the passthrough image that can't keep up due to the image processing needed. You can clearly see that the tracked and animated controllers are ahead of the camera feed.
I posted about this a lot in other comments that said the same thing: 1) I believe I jumbled my words in the video 2) After a lot of testing, the latency just isn't that high.. what seems to be happening is that the rendered controllers are "predicting" where they're going to be and jumping ahead. You can test this by putting an object in front of you, and running your hand into it. You will notice that the rendered controller goes throufh the object, where your hand stopped, and will then "jump" back. It's likely a combonation of both, but the latency just doesn't appear to be high enough to cause this drastic effect alone
Love to hear it was a massive upgrade! They've definitely outdone themselves in terms of quality vs. price - it's impressive. I do hope they upgrade the UI as it's missing a lot of quality-of-life features.
Excellent review. Seeing how new mixed reality is at this quality level and price, it's likely that developers will NOW start flocking to this area. And for traditional productivity apps (Adobe Premiere, MS Word, etc), it's time for VR versions that break free from the 2D screens they've been limited to. With VR the user can look around, walk through space, teleport instantly (uh, to their "file manager" which are cartons in a storeroom!). Thanks Meta for getting the ball rolling on this.
ALINE tech have you tried the Vision Pro yet? I think its a big step towards the VR future you are hoping for, not a great price tag but amazing technology nonetheless
I haven't and wasn't planning on it since I'm not in the Apple ecosystem; however, I've gotten enough requests that the views on a review video might help it pay for itself. I am very far behind my video schedule due to my father being ill, but I may end up picking up a AVP in mid-March and giving it a spin.
@@aline.tech.reviews I feel you, I tend to stay away from Apple but I couldn't help but to be impressed by it. Too bad it's out the price range of normal consumers. I'll try to remember to check back in a few weeks to see if you got one
You deserve an award for the smart, thorough, and entertaining exploration of the Meta Quest 3. Outstanding. (And call me shallow, I love your hair. And your face.😁)
Truly appreciate that!!! Thanks for taking the time to watch. =) More videos are on the way; I've had a pretty big blocker here in my personal life that kept me from working on new content. I should be releasing again by the end of the month.
The passthrough is a fantastic addition when playing games like eleven table tennis and other action filled games in smaller spaces. It prevents you to punch a wall or step on the cat in the middle of a game. Piano vision is great combined with my real digital piano, I haven’t tried on a virtual piano yet though.
The Varjo XR-4 already does that. Will be interesting to see how the Vision Pro turns out.. I think people are forgetting it's Apple who likes a closed ecosystem so you won't be able to run PCVR without a Mac. And most people cant afford it. From what I can see with their marketing, most stuff on it already feels gimmicky, like the whole setup process they showcased.
Truly appreciate that! And thanks for subscribing - I have 3x Quest 3 accessory comparison videos (one is a VR treadmill!) coming out this month, then a Quest 3S review, then my 1-year follow up of the Quest 3. Will be a very heavy Meta Quest couple months.
Good honest review, I jumped in with the quest 2 and thankfully purchased when it was cheap, like you I now need to wait a good few years before it really is a pleasure to use.
Appreciate that, thank you! And yea, I think that's a wise choice. The Apple Vision Pro has shown what we're capable of in terms of spatial computing/productivity (and how powerful a second chip for handling passthrough can be), and the Pimax and other teams team is pushing forward on higher-quality PCVR experiences. We just need those two pathways to converge - which I presume will come in some years as the tech gets easier to produce (it sounds like we're getting closer to 4k micro-OLEDs being the new standard).
Battery pack video is on the way! I just got BoboVR's new one so gonna throw that in there. And 🤣. I get that a lot - one is a Whoop 4.0 fitness tracker, the other is a Garmin Fenix 5 watch
I've had the Quest 2 and Quest 3 since launch and stumbled on your video even though I'm aware of the pros and cons at this point. Arguably the best review I've seen. I raced to sub and see you haven't made any new videos since so hopefully soon. You got the chops!
Appreciate that, thank you so much! And yes, I'm finally back in the cockpit and working on videos again - my father was terminally ill and that snowballed into getting behind at work. It's been a long 6 months, but I'm all caught up and videos are schedule for the horizon!
Haha - appreciate that! I thought I butchered the audio on this one (maybe it's only with some headphones).. but I have a note to not do that in the future. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
I just got my Quest 3 about 4 days ago...usually I look for things that would have some kind of review on something I am looking to buy before actually spending on it...but I was just too excited to upgrade...honestly this video is highly detailed and very concise. I will not lie I wish the tracking was a whole lot better but this is so much better then the quest 2...graphics and just everyday use in general. It truly does feel like the icebreaker of VR and the start of the popularity trend of VR for consumer and business use. Awesome video man I will tell and share to everyone this video if they are interested in buying a Quest 3 like I was. Hope you blow up soon :D (Also on a side note I cannot wait to finally be able to go into a lot of VR worlds and there are not just children and random people trolling for the memes lol)
I definitely agree - you put it in a good way that this is the icebreaker of consumer VR. The previous iterations just weren't quite there for a 'majority set of users' and this one nails it for us as consumers. The Quest 3 feels insanely popular, and those who can't justify the price tag are still on the marketing hype train and buying the Quest 2 at a great price instead. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
Hey man, great review! 100% agree with what you said. I'm one of those new VR persons that just bought his first headset (meta quest 3) and although I've realized its not quite what I excepted from some apps (eg. immersed) it is just a mind blowing experience in other fields. And like someone said, truly refreshing review of a product.
My Quest 3 just came today while i was at work. I came home for lunch and got 40 minutes with it, and i was so sad to go back! Currently have 45 minutes left, and the wait is killing me! This is my first VR experience and im in love!

What do you think is best for a first time VR consumer? Quest 2 or 3
At 74 years young, i finely saved enough to get a Meta Quest 3 512g.

How are you liking it??
@@Tylorgng. Regrettably, it wasn't for me. I will not say it wasn't incredible. But it turned out that for the same reason I can't use a CPAP for my sleep apnea, it also made wearing the headset rather uncomfortable. I returned it for a refund. @@TheGlssr60 Understandable. May I ask what was uncomfortable about it? Was it too heavy or something?

I have really viewed a lot of reviews (or supposedly so) and opinions in general and I have to say that your analysis is without a shadow of a doubt the most thorough and accurate, as well as being also very objective, without easy enthusiasms. Also the editing, really well done: high quality and many examples.

The headset actually is being sold at a loss. It costs $478 to produce and with fulfillment and shipping it is close to if not surpassing the $500 price tag. It is heavily subsidized with game sales and first party accessories.

This is one of the best reviews of any product I have ever seen on TH-cam.

@@kevinmach730 exactly great graphics but game play is soul destroying
@@silversubaru590I take it you've played it and are not a huge fan as of yet, either. It's weird cuz I like some puzzle games- the Room VR was one of my favorite games on the Quest so far. I still have not yet gone back to start playing Red Matter 2 though.
@kevinmach730 I know it's a great game of its genre but unfortunately I'm crap at it. Guess I haven't got that sort of brain.
Excellent review. Deserves buying a Superthanks. If we want useful reviews on TH-cam we should reward content like this.
Thank You.
Really appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to watch =)

The ability to stream wirelessly is literally amazing and quality and latency isn't noticeable IMO.

Yes it is @@kaleoscreations

Curious, you hanging onto the Pro still? Is just collecting dust now that you've got the Quest 3 or do you still have use for it?
W content bro. Stayed on subject, no unnecessary rambling about things that doesn’t have to do with the topic, no stupid memes and stuff throughout your video. Video quality is beautiful. 👌🏾
I appreciate that man, thanks for looking out! 🙏
This was one of the best VR reviews I've ever seen. I share your lofty expectations, and I really appreciate your honesty when talking about the current state of the hardware/software in relation to what it could be. Just subscribed, thanks!
I truly appreciate that - thank you for taking the time to watch and leave lovely feedback!
I'm shocked to see you only have about 7k subs, the production quality is top notch. There's no doubt this channel is gonna blow up in the future. Really great review, I subbed!
That means a lot, thank you!! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment =)
That was one hell of a review. Good job sir! I have PSVR2 so don’t want or need a Quest 3, however I stayed till the end due to the sheer informativeness of your video.
Man, I truly appreciate it! Comments like this confirm the effort was worth it. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Hands down best review out there for quest 3. Impressive is an understatement for how well you did creating this video.
I really appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
Incredible, you're a true professional. Congratulations on 100k subs (I'm from 9 months into the future)

@aline.tech.reviews Thanks for the reply man I appreciate it. Glad to hear there's still constant updates being done

As many others have said, this review was one of the best I’ve ever seen for any product. You had no filler, stayed on point, and still covered a massive range of information. I wish all reviews could be even half as good as this one. Thank you for putting so much effort into making this video.
I truly appreciate that, thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a thoughtful comment. You all confirm it was worth the effort.
I did notice a couple minor technical inaccuracies when you talked about the tracking that you might want to be aware of:
11:33 The latency shown here in the video is between the color cameras and the controller tracking.
For your first point, I thought so as well.

Brilliant analysis. Especially at - 18:47-20:20. Witty 😆 too. Well done Sir. 👏👏👏

I have the quest 3 and this was a very good review. It's so funny how you trigger so many vr warriors
Hi I have a MacBook M1Pro, No gaming PC… I had a PSVR1, it was terrible. I do gaming on PS5. I want to try VR again… is Quest 3 good move for me?

Would love you to do such an in-depth review of the Apple Vision Pro. This review boasts fantastic and objective detail. Thanks.
@@aline.tech.reviews ahh I see, thanks for the clarification!
Mine arrives in two days, I'll be using it for PCVR mainly. Your review was very down to earth and informative, subbed.
That's super exciting, and I think you're going to love it for PCVR! The visuals are more crisp than I expected. SteamLink also just launched a week or so ago, which is a free alternative to Virtual Desktop.

1. The size and weight
2. Longer battery (perhaps at least 3 hours and fast charge capability)
3. Passthrough camera upgrade (way too blurry IMO, and like u mentioned, best for just seeing what's going on around you)
I'm still thinking about returning the quest 3 as I already have the quest 2.
Top quality review, wish more people could match the depth and nuance. Look forward to your future content.
I posted about this a lot in other comments that said the same thing:
1) I believe I jumbled my words in the video
2) After a lot of testing, the latency just isn't that high.. what seems to be happening is that the rendered controllers are "predicting" where they're going to be and jumping ahead. You can test this by putting an object in front of you, and running your hand into it. You will notice that the rendered controller goes throufh the object, where your hand stopped, and will then "jump" back.
It's likely a combonation of both, but the latency just doesn't appear to be high enough to cause this drastic effect alone
Coming from a rift s its a night and day upgrade for me personally although there are things I miss from the rift s (Mainly its easy to navigate UI)
Love to hear it was a massive upgrade! They've definitely outdone themselves in terms of quality vs. price - it's impressive. I do hope they upgrade the UI as it's missing a lot of quality-of-life features.
I would definitely like to see the comparison of battery solutions.
If you have the cash, any of the Anker Prime batteries at 27w and above work amazingly well. I stay at 100% for hours.
Can you mount them to the Bobovr headset tho? @@JorgTheElder
Well stated, and I share this excitement for the future!
What a detailed and comprehensive review. Subscribed.
Appreciate that! Thank you for the sub =)
Quest 3 is an incredible device.
Truuuu
short answer: yes
You deserve an award for the smart, thorough, and entertaining exploration of the Meta Quest 3. Outstanding. (And call me shallow, I love your hair. And your face.😁)
Truly appreciate that!!! Thank you for taking the time to watch and the kind words. =)
SOOOOOO Much Information, You gotta love this guy... WOW! Thanks so much for doing what you did in this video along with everything you do.
Truly appreciate that!!! Thanks for taking the time to watch. =)
More videos are on the way; I've had a pretty big blocker here in my personal life that kept me from working on new content. I should be releasing again by the end of the month.
Who’s watching this after buying it already 🗿🗿
👇
The passthrough is a fantastic addition when playing games like eleven table tennis and other action filled games in smaller spaces. It prevents you to punch a wall or step on the cat in the middle of a game. Piano vision is great combined with my real digital piano, I haven’t tried on a virtual piano yet though.
It's too bad Apple Vision Pro is about to make the Quest 3 look like a Fisher Price toy in about a month or two.
The Varjo XR-4 already does that. Will be interesting to see how the Vision Pro turns out.. I think people are forgetting it's Apple who likes a closed ecosystem so you won't be able to run PCVR without a Mac. And most people cant afford it.
From what I can see with their marketing, most stuff on it already feels gimmicky, like the whole setup process they showcased.
comments that aged like milk
@@KrasniyeLmao. Came to say the same thing.
Very goood work. first time landed here. and subbed. Good to see someone doing real review
Appreciate that; thanks for taking the time to watch, sub, and comment!!
Can’t overstate how great this review is … well paced, well informed and great overall production … subbed 👍👍
Much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Crazy to think this all started from Google glasses
I have a short attention span so I had to skip to "Is it worth it?" lol
🤣. No worries! I hope it was helpful. Just make sure you leave me on autoplay while you sleep so I get those watch hours (just kidding)
now do same review for your hair conditioner.
lololol
Haha
This is the best review of the Meta quest 3. I liked and subscribed!
We just need those two pathways to converge - which I presume will come in some years as the tech gets easier to produce (it sounds like we're getting closer to 4k micro-OLEDs being the new standard).
speaking too fast. Hard to digest all the info.
Try playing the video at 0.75x or 0.5x speed (click the gear icon on the TH-cam player). Hope that helps!
@@aline.tech.reviews Thanks - .75 is usable.
Nah, you're just old man
lets TOTALLY get a battery pack vid, since you're doing it this mean that the vids going to be pretty high quality considering this video
Am I the only one who realised this man was wearing 2 watches??
Sir, your audio is absolutely great. Thank you.
Hope you blow up soon :D
(Also on a side note I cannot wait to finally be able to go into a lot of VR worlds and there are not just children and random people trolling for the memes lol)
😆😆 Glad you're enjoying it!!!
