- Monty Python's Michael Palin and Terry Jones on Comedians Do It On Stage, a 1986 Channel 4 special (British TV) charity show in aid of the Oncology Club Fund. Performing their "Shouting Competition" sketch. I had this clip on an old VHS tape. I couldn't see it elsewhere on TH-cam, so I put it up so Python fans could enjoy it. You can actually go to shouting competitions in the u.k. they normally start outside Mc Donalds around midnight, or generally on council estates most summer's evenings.

Such a silly little sketch and the amount of rehearsal it must've gone through. Just to coordinate the opening of the "soundproof box" and have it look convincing and natural. Real professionals at work.
I tried to RIP Terry Jones once... but it didn't work, because he was held together to well. Such craftsmanship, a very well made artiste indeed!.

I honestly wouldn't be able to tell 1986 Palin from Palin when he first appeared in Monty Python's Flying Circus. Looks like he hasn't aged a minute in more than 15 years.
Incredibly cruel of fate that a man like Terry Jones was robbed of his voice at the end. RIP.

Hilarious in the box
Just the title of this makes me SO jealous 😒! I'm never allowed to shout in my life. Half the time I don't even know when I'm shouting. Any time I get excited or determined to make myself heard, I always end up shouting and my family, that's full of sensitive ears 👂 shushes me, resulting in me hitting myself and lying awake half the night full of anger. There's nothing I hate more than being shushed. "Ssssshhh!" is my trigger word
I never knew that 'The Lady Of Shallot' was written by Gary Sobers. Python always was educational!
It wasn't. It was written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The Gary Sobers thing must be a joke of some kind, but I don't understand it.

The character Palin is playing is the early, conceptual “Monty Python.” Before he was an all-purpose brand name, he was originally conceived as a slimy and obnoxious game show host!

LIB I've had Eric Idle and Michael Palin mixed up for years.
It is said that they were quite mixed up themselves.
Palin made the best Gumby of them all and Idle made the least horrible screechy 'Pepperpot' woman. Jones and Chapman made the best (ie most awful) Pepperpots!

Did something go askew during the writing of the sketch? It was fine and all but Terry Jones' character clearly couldn't hear Palin's at one point (before he got in the 'soundproof box') so it'd have been funnier for me if it was Palin's chirpy presenter who ended up accidentally breaking the world record by shouting back what he'd said at Jones' softly spoken character.
