This interview is absolutely wonderful, Graham laughing, Terry falling, perfection! And I love how Graham said at the end "You really are more mad than me!"
When Palin goes off using a character voice it propels him in the moment to come up with improvised material that seems to make him the funniest guy. I think that he was the most v centered balanced individual inside, and thet made him relaxed
Love the way Terry keels over the 2nd time and holds the pose with his legs in the air, haha. Always thought he was the underrated member of Python. And poor old Graham's reaction the 1st time he went down at 3.15 is so subtle but so funny. Great stuff, not seen this before.
I wish Graham Chapman would come back to life so we could chill together. Who the hell gave him permission to start pushing up the daisies? Bit rude to do that to your fans Chapman, just saying...
+Rainbow Turtle He's my favorite Python... Graham may have liked a drink or two, but at least he had style. At 2:06 they're out in the middle of nowhere, and of course he has brought *a real glass* for his drink, not a paper cup ;-)
Not sure whether this has been said before - in the MPFC episode where the colonel comes and chases away the hermits, you can see this camera crew and John Cleese being chased away. Nice to finally see the interview they were doing.
AHHH I love Mike!!! So sexy, handsome, funny, and carefree... And he's got a really nice coat on! "...There used to be a bathroom...That was a bar..." A hilarious interview! Thank you for posting! The chaps are so great!!
I have very possibly developed an addicition to this interview! Gray, Mike and Terry are LOVELY and so cute! Pity Eric was not there. BTW I've always admired Terry for his athletic capability and "stunt-man" qualities :-) Graham's laugh really made my day, I love him
John Cleese talking about watching rocks reminded me of one of their great comedy heroes, Peter Cook. Cook said that at his minor public school before he went to Cambridge University, there was a teacher who said he saw rocks move. Cook said he was much crazier and eccentric than me.
Poor old Graham, he didn't look very happy. It was very telling when he said "as far as the audience is concerned we're having a very nice time". From what I understand he was drinking heavily to help him get through his stage fright and it was all coming to a head. I believe it was after the Canadian tour that John decided to quit.
They used the same take of the Colonel interrupting the hermits in the actual episode. Quite interesting watching this and the Hermits sketch simultaneously. That is...I _think_ it's from the same take.
I'm fairly certain that the guy giving the interview did not understand Monty Python at all, but that made the interview a bit more fun....especially when they started messing with him.
Question for those who might know: I know that John Cleese left before Season 4 of MPFC, but then of course returned for movies, tours and such. Would 1973 be before Season 4, and therefore before Cleese left the group for awhile?
It was to be a fateful trip to Canada. While on the tour John Cleese told the rest of the group that he wasn't coming back for the 4th season of Flying Circus
From what I have read, the Pythons didn't realize Graham had a drinking problem until later, but in hindsight realized that he probably had been one for quite some time. In other words, I wouldn't at all be surprised if, sadly, he already was abusing alcohol.
@connfyoozed Yeah that is before cleese left i think on the break between season 3 and 4. John said in some interview he told them on the way back from the tour of canada on the plane and they all got pretty upset at him. and yeah thats totally when chapman was getting in full blown alcoholic mode, listen to how his voice sounds kinda slurry, still a nice interview though.
I think he was doing a Liverpudlian accent. Interestingly enough though, Harrison was good friends with Eric Idle and Michael Palin and he even paid for AND made a cameo in the life of Brian.
+Bernd Wahlbrinck Life of Brian would have obviously happened if Harrison hadn't been there, but no one would have caught it on film. Great documentary, glad Monty Python managed to capture it on film!
The funny thing about the hermit sketch is that they weren't really hermits as they would meet up a lot to gossip and do things together such as finding food. They were only cut off from mainstream society.
yes, although the rest of the group didn't realise the extent of his problem until they were doing The Holy Grail in 1975 (also I think that's potentially gin and not wine since that was mostly what he drank)
'He's black, and he's homosexual'
'Speak for yourself!'
'I was speaking for myself!'
And he’s got three wives!
It's quite sinister that he's obviously wasted...
...and it's amazing that he's still funnier than 99.9% of human beings.
(except the Portuguese)
I don't know why, but it's so nice to hear Graham Chapman laugh
I love how 70s they all look... :3 So young.
They were young
They look far more 70s now.
Terry is just an animal!!! "Are you alright?" "yESSSSSS!" hilarious, rolling around in his fur jacket.
Michael Palin & Terry Jones were and still are my favorites.
John Cleese sounds like John Lennon doing one of his witty Beatles interviews.
Billy Bronco I think it’s genuinely a Lennon impression lmao
Looks almost like him with the hair too, just add some glasses
like some sort of ridiculous homunculus inter planetary crossover of 70s Lennon and 90s Liam Gallagher
RIP Graham Chapman what a sweet lovely and funny man and he’s sooo handsome to boot!🙏💗💗🙏
Terry Jones is so weird and I like it
Bonkers... that’s my Dad doing the interview!! Got a smile for miles stumbling across this!
What I wouldn't give to go back in time and hang around with these crazy chaps during their Python peak...
Thinking of Terry Jones, such a funny man
"There was a rumour than Monty Python himself was - woa, we've lost one."
5:35 Terry Jones doing that stunt had me in tears!
Me too,fave part of interview
Oh that Terry
This interview is absolutely wonderful, Graham laughing, Terry falling, perfection!
And I love how Graham said at the end "You really are more mad than me!"
That was brilliant! Michael is definitely my favourite! So cute ♡
Terry is being such a troll here XD God, I love Gray's cowboy hat. So sexy.
Oh MAN, THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. It made me so happy. Oh, the side burns and bellbottoms... And dear Graham's smirk...
When Palin goes off using a character voice it propels him in the moment to come up with improvised material that seems to make him the funniest guy. I think that he was the most v centered balanced individual inside, and thet made him relaxed
Chapman with the drink in his hand, legend!
Cleese sounding like a scouser.
I think he may have been spoofing John Lennon, yes?
Alan Scouser
Thought I heard something Beatle-ish!
Alan Scouser more paul mccartney
Love the way Terry keels over the 2nd time and holds the pose with his legs in the air, haha. Always thought he was the underrated member of Python. And poor old Graham's reaction the 1st time he went down at 3.15 is so subtle but so funny. Great stuff, not seen this before.
I so wish there were more old interviews like this of them in their younger days. they were in their prime.
I wish Graham Chapman would come back to life so we could chill together. Who the hell gave him permission to start pushing up the daisies? Bit rude to do that to your fans Chapman, just saying...
True, true..
Well, I'd say, since 1989 he's been pretty late... Haha
Yeah, I wonder what's taking him so long? :-/
+Rainbow Turtle He's my favorite Python... Graham may have liked a drink or two, but at least he had style. At 2:06 they're out in the middle of nowhere, and of course he has brought *a real glass* for his drink, not a paper cup ;-)
drumstick74 He had swag before swag was a common term! #hipsterchapman
I've never seen this before! This is pure fucking gold, thanks so much for uploading!
Six men...and one woman, and what a woman...who changed the world for the better. Respect to the Pythons. 4:15 Terry Jones invents the photobomb.
Not sure whether this has been said before - in the MPFC episode where the colonel comes and chases away the hermits, you can see this camera crew and John Cleese being chased away. Nice to finally see the interview they were doing.
I love Michael and Terry's coats!
They're so cool, would still give you swagger today
there arent enough curse words to express how amazing this is.
This is wonderful, thankyou for sharing!
TERRY. I can't!
Monty Python is black, homosexual, and has three wives.
''I'm writing a book about stones at the moment. I'm quite a keen stone watcher ya know.'' Hahaha.
Woah, baby! That's one hell of a find!
I must say Michael is looking very handsome on here.
Thanks for sharing the awesomeness.
AHHH I love Mike!!! So sexy, handsome, funny, and carefree... And he's got a really nice coat on! "...There used to be a bathroom...That was a bar..." A hilarious interview! Thank you for posting! The chaps are so great!!
te amo Terry Jones jaja!
*With Graham holding a glass of booze throughout of course... Kind of sad when you know what was to follow for him in that department...*
I have very possibly developed an addicition to this interview!
Gray, Mike and Terry are LOVELY and so cute!
Pity Eric was not there.
BTW I've always admired Terry for his athletic capability and "stunt-man" qualities :-)
Graham's laugh really made my day, I love him
Well done on the upload! This is great.
Wow. Chapman isn't drunk. He's even got a drink in his hand.
Ah, 70s hair. Ridiculous and adorable.
I love them
John Cleese talking about watching rocks reminded me of one of their great comedy heroes, Peter Cook. Cook said that at his minor public school before he went to Cambridge University, there was a teacher who said he saw rocks move. Cook said he was much crazier and eccentric than me.

Look at their flared trousers :') bless them
It would be a real treat to go back in time and just hang out with these guys for an afternoon.
I saw them do their live show in New York around this time. I must have been about 10.
i love terry jones
So sweet.
They used the same take of the Colonel interrupting the hermits in the actual episode.
Quite interesting watching this and the Hermits sketch simultaneously.
That is...I _think_ it's from the same take.
Que elegante Mike.Con ese abrigo parece un poeta del siglo XIX. 💞✌😃
Chapman looks completely off his face.
I absolutely love Terry Jones here (well, actually I love him ❤️ always).....his goofiness cracks me up everytime 🤣
Amazinly lovely
"'Course they've changed it a bit now... they've put rocks in haven't they?" Oh my god this is amazing :-D
Terry Jones was the "Keith Moon" of the group.
Bloody fantastic! And if anyone disagrees with me... I'll, well, I'll be jolly upset.
-MAS
What a fantastic interview! Mike is so cuteeee!! Terry waving behind Graham was hilarious!
I'm fairly certain that the guy giving the interview did not understand Monty Python at all, but that made the interview a bit more fun....especially when they started messing with him.
3:36 He doesn´t bite, does he? Hahahahaha RIP Terry, will always miss you
i love these weirdos always have ,always will :)
R.I.P Jerry Jones thanks for the laugh's mate. R.I.P Graham Chapman.
Great upload. Thanks.
Question for those who might know: I know that John Cleese left before Season 4 of MPFC, but then of course returned for movies, tours and such. Would 1973 be before Season 4, and therefore before Cleese left the group for awhile?
yes, season 4 was in 1974 :)
I am so very much in love with Mr. Palin's coat! Where does one find such a coat?
sanguinarybunny shops
I want Terry's coat!!
It was to be a fateful trip to Canada. While on the tour John Cleese told the rest of the group that he wasn't coming back for the 4th season of Flying Circus
@Rumpio That's what I was thinking! He's definitely doing a Liverpudlian accent.
TERRY JONES for rolling president!
From what I have read, the Pythons didn't realize Graham had a drinking problem until later, but in hindsight realized that he probably had been one for quite some time. In other words, I wouldn't at all be surprised if, sadly, he already was abusing alcohol.
connfyoozed they realise it the day of the Upper twit of the year recording, John and Michael found an half empty bottle of vodka in his bag
He was definitely the Keith Moon of the group, yes.
Graham Chapman, the black homosexual
He was always the cute one :-) And indeed I agree he still looks good even as an 'older man' haha
LOL! great, thanks for posting this! :D
Love this.
Mike esta barbaro con ese abrigo.Parece Lord Byron.💖👀😃🌹🌿🌹🌿🌹🌿🌹
I wish there was more
terry falls like a Kamikaze Scotsman, with his legs in the air :3
sounds like George Harrison
+Nowhere Doge
Exactly what I thought!!! Maybe on purpose?
I think he was doing a Liverpudlian accent. Interestingly enough though, Harrison was good friends with Eric Idle and Michael Palin and he even paid for AND made a cameo in the life of Brian.
+Barney Os.
Exactly! Without Harrison LIFE OF BRIAN would never have happened
+Bernd Wahlbrinck Life of Brian would have obviously happened if Harrison hadn't been there, but no one would have caught it on film. Great documentary, glad Monty Python managed to capture it on film!
Barney Os. He is doing a Liverpool accent... so anyway...
i think this could be one of the funniest things i've ever seen. I'm scared i won't be able to stop watching it! barmy
I thought that at first too, but I think he was imitating John Lennon actually.
"can we be a little bit serious?"
graham: “he’s black.... and... homosexual”
michael: “speak for yourself”
graham: “i was speaking for myself”
lolol
john cleese is doing a great lennon wow
those pythons always loved mentioning that polystyrene
how.can.you.find.these.gems. thank you so much!!
The Pythons were soo witty yet soo hip. Hell, I'm shocked just seeing how much the Range Rover vehicle was ahead of its time.
thanks!
exactly what i thought
Yes i know .
Graham Chapman with a drink, LOL....
I'm really into the trenchcoats, especially on Michael :)
The funny thing about the hermit sketch is that they weren't really hermits as they would meet up a lot to gossip and do things together such as finding food. They were only cut off from mainstream society.
Cool video
So Graham Chapman can be seen with a glass of wine in his hand. Was he already an addict at that time?
yes, although the rest of the group didn't realise the extent of his problem until they were doing The Holy Grail in 1975 (also I think that's potentially gin and not wine since that was mostly what he drank)
hermosos. dejen en paz a Chapman. please. 😍
terry jones reminds me of kieth moon of the who.
oo i seee.
Awwww look at the CUTE Michael Palin! He was young and sexy in those days. Well he still is sexy, just not so young. :)
i thought george harrison was dubbing cleese's voice at first
