Great list 🤘 What I’ve read so far , the next Anthrax album will be even heavier . Some of these older bands just seem to get better with time ( tick tick ticking in my head lol ). 2019 will be a good year for metal 🤘

I was late to the Anthrax party. I mean late. I saw them open for Megadeth in '05 on the Gigantour. Joey was back in the band. Megadeth is my all time fav. But Anthrax came on and kicked their ass. I was floored. When they played Medusa. I was like: what is this!? This is awesome! I love it when a live performance wins you over.

Hey Darcy, yet another excellent video. Binging some of your videos tonight. Hope your not getting sick of me commenting (LOL??) Anyway, here's my list:
    1) Spreading The Disease
    2) Among The Living (1987 my brother & I got to mosh w/ Scott, Charlie & Frank at an in store album signing. They were such cool guys.)
    3) Persistence Of Time
    4) For All Kings
    5) Sound Of White Noise
    6) State Of Euphoria
    7) Fistful Of Metal
    8) Worship Music
    9) We've Come For You All
    10) Volume 8: The Threat Is Real
    11) Stomp 442 (for me absolutely nothing good about this album)
By the way, loved the Keel playing in the background. Just loud enough to hear yet not too loud to dominate. Good job.

I actually really love the album Volume 8, it’s really unique in my eyes. The history of this album is really interesting, with the struggle of the band and studio. I agree, Toast To The Extras is a B-side all day long, and it’s only the song I don’t really care for that’s one the album( besides 604 and Cupajoe). I think the secret bonus track Pieces is the best song off the album, along with Big Fat and Inside out in my opinion.

Totally agree with you regarding John Bush. Very good vocalist, especially Armored Saint, but is not the voice for Anthrax. He and Scott got on great, and that's important, but Joey is the voice of Anthrax.
Anthrax is, and has been, one of my top bands for years, but I have to admit, I've never played any of their albums without Joey. I have the Armed and Dangerous EP that has Neil singing a few songs. Only song I've heard with John Bush is "Only". A very good song, but didn't make me want to buy Sound of White Noise. Yes, I've heard it's very good, so I'll stream it one day.

Nice job Darcy! I agree, Among the Living is #1. Also, State of Euphoria seems to get overlooked. I keep hearing about how the band didn't feel it was finished and wished they had spend more time on it but I feel it is a great album. I never cared for John Bush and almost feel bad for them in the late 90's when they were really struggling.

State of Euphoria is the album that introduced me to Anthrax so it'll be my #1 until the end. Among the Living and Persistence of Time are in a constant battle for 2nd place. I've listened to Among the Living so many times that I almost burnt myself out on it. I also had the live video N.F.V. on vhs when it first came out so there was even more Among the Living and I must have watched that in my room a gazillion times! The Sound of White Noise is probably the last Anthrax album that I dabbled with as death metal was taking over my musical interests and I had just started doing a death metal radio show on college radio when White Noise was released. Stomp 442 was also released during my days on the radio and I vividly remember seeing it with all the new albums that the different labels had sent our station, I specifically remember looking at the cover and thinking "hmmm, they changed their logo, well at least they're still around." I don't think I even gave it a listen, same thing with King Diamond's Spider's Lullaby...seen it at my radio station but I was full on into extreme metal so I never even played it once. Nowadays, I've gotten back to my roots and I can't get enough of the metal that I enjoyed as a teenager in the late 80's to around 1990, especially King Diamond, I've become obsessed with that band, not Mercyful Fate, just King Diamond. Anyway back to Anthrax. I'm really glad that Joey B. came back to the band...he's my favorite Anthrax singer. So, after Stomp was out, I completely lost track of Anthrax and everything else that was released after are like brand new albums for me. Honorable mention to the ep "I'm the Man" great stuff on it and the album cover has always been one of my favorites. I own Among the Living up until White Noise on cassette tape and cd and I've been buying all the rest of their albums that I never owned and I'm having a blast doing it! Great ranking video Darcy, I'm glad you made this one because I specifically searched for Anthrax ranking videos and blam! Yours popped up...perfect!

How we doing again Darcy Six?? Love your rankings lists...however...just like the Overkill rankings...I have to disagree with your list...here it goes...
    11. Fistful of Metal
    10. Spreading the Disease
    9. State of Euphoria
    8. Among the Living
    7. Stomp 442
    6. Worship Music
    5. We've Come For You All
    4. Persistence Of Time
    3. Volume 8.
    2. Sound of White Noise
    1. For All Kings
I've always favored Bush's vocals over Belladonna's...Joey knocked it out the park on vocals (finally) with For All Kings. Had he not done so...Sound of White Noise definitely takes number one hands down. I put Volume 8 high in the ranking too...thats because in my personal opinion...the solo fill performed on the track "Inside Out" could very well be one of the greatest solos by Dimebag Darrell ever...and yes...I am saying that it is better than 98 percent of his Pantera solos...and those were mind-blowing.

Anthrax are great! Among the Living and Spreading the Disease are great. I think the rest are so so. They do have individual tracks that are great but as albums they are nowhere near.
I saw them live with Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer and they were OK (I did not prelisten to them). But prior to them opening for Slayer two years ago I went out of my way to make a playlist on Spotify with the most likely tracks being played live (except from Among the Living/Spreading) and kept spinning it and started to like every song, and then they played almost all the songs (and a handfull of bangers from Among/Spreading) and it was glorious! (Obituary were great also, unfortunatly Lamb of God was a snooze-fest before Slayer killed it for the last time on Swedish soil.)

    11. Stomp 442
    10. Volume 8: The Threat Is Real
    9. We've Come For You All
    8. Sound of White Noise (pretty strong album, but the whole John Bush era is lacking something that I like about anthrax. The fact that I'm ranking this album pretty low might piss some people off)
    7. Worship Music
    6. Fistful of Metal (again, this might piss some people off that I'm ranking this one higher than people think I should. This album does not get the credit that it deserves. This is definitely their best album without Joey Belladonna)
    5. For All Kings
    4. Spreading The Disease
    3. State of Euphoria
    2. Among The Living (me ranking this at number two might get me killed 😂 it's a perfect album, but maybe a slight bit overrated)
    1. Persistence of Time

Persistence of Time is my favorite. Heavy, dark and intense from start to finish. No filler. The other albums with Belladonna tend to have some clunkers. And I really think the Bush era albums should get more love. I think Bush has a better voice overall than Belladonna. A deeper, fuller metal voice. I really hated when this band got into that rap garbage. That was just awful.

Persistence Of Time is definitely a heavier & darker album , I think I like it more today then I did when it first came out ! I think John Bush is one of metal’s premier vocalist , I love most of what he did with Anthrax but prefer him in Armored Saint ! Lol yeah no rap for me ! Thanks as always 🤘 Take care David

Me again. I won’t rate any of these bands albums from first to last. I’ll leave that up to you. Just add a few comments.
I’m surprised Volume 8 is last and so low on most people’s list. They have worse albums in my opinion . Stomp 442, We’ve come for you all and Fistful are weaker, just my opinion though. Could never quite get into State Of Euphoria as much as the other classic era Belladonna ones for some reason.
Their best one is Spreading The Disease.

Strange how you ranked Stomp 442. I've always considered it Anthrax's weakest album. I can't think of a song on it that pops out at me as a favorite, whereas WCFYA and Volume 8 are full of great songs. I think Inside out and Crush are probably 2 of my favorite Anthrax songs. Having said that Anthrax albums are hard to rank, because other than Stomp I really enjoy them all. But Joey was the singer I was raised on in the 80's and there's a sense of nostalgia I have with those albums that I don't have with John. I would honestly put Fist Full of Metal last. It's an album full of great songs, that I've finally come to appreciate due to my changing taste, but Neil Turbin's vocals are love em or hate em depending on what type of metal you like. Although it contains the song that dubbed a genre "Metal Thrashing Mad" to me it's more of a speed metal album than a thrash album. I think I finally like it because I've kind of grown fond of speed metal this last year with bands like Exciter. Have your read Scott Ian's book? It's a great read and he talks about the decline of Anthrax in the 90's. He blames a lot of it on Elektra changing heads and the new lady in charge didn't like metal, or Anthrax, and said she would never have signed them and she didn't want to promote the bands at all and didn't. My favorite is Spreading the Disease. It's got great guitar tone, and probably has the most melody of Anthrax's early "classic" line up material.

Hey Greg 👋 Really not a whole lot jumps out at me with those bottom four , not a lot of memorable tracks ! I agree with you on Fistful being a speed metal album , definitely reminds me of any of the first 3 Exciter albums , love those albums btw ! No I haven’t read Scott Ian’s book yet , I know I should but I’m the slowest reader on earth lol . You can see I really like Spreading The Disease a lot , honestly it’s a coin flip with Among The Living for #1 . Hope you had a great New Years & thanks as always for stoping by 🤘 much appreciated :))

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Just curious if you've heard of the new Speed Metal band from Calgary called Riot City who released their debut album "Burn The Night" in 2019? If you haven't you should check it out. It's impressive and it screams of influences from Exciter, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. But Scott Ian's book was a great read and highly recommended. I'm not much of a reader myself but I do enjoy music biographies. K.K. Downings was another good one, and I'm looking forward to Rob Halford's book coming out this year.

Darcy Six Strings Nine Lives As you say man it’s all personal preference .
      For me thought it’s
we’ve come for you all as the strongest of the Bush albums and my favourite modern Anthrax record . Then For all kings , I dig the songs a bit more than Worship music plus
it was an album written for Joey so I find it fits his voice more.
Lastly Worship music , an album they kinda had to put out to survive so I probably judge it a bit harshly , but it was written with John or Dan Nelson in mind so it’s kinda a half way house that never fully lives up to its potential . This was also the first tour I saw them on with Joey, and having seen them with John at Sonisphere England a year before I wasn’t very impressed with Joey live having been introduced to Anthrax live with John so it’s always been a bit of a sour one for me .

I don't know,I could never take this band seriously.Maybe because of their silly photo sessions,or maybe because of Ian's stupid behavior, maybe because their lyrics seem to me sort of shallow and unconvincing? ...I don't know. I know that they surely do not deserve to be included into the BIG FOUR thing. There are plenty of better bands from the area, bands like Testament,Overkill or Exodus for instance...

    • @Mr.Truxton
      @Mr.Truxton 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The big four is not the 4 best, it's just the first ones to do it and be successful and influential. That's what the big 4 mean, also they are arguably the 4 most popular. And I love that they are a little goofy sometimes, I hate how everything is always so serious. Metal is about having fun.

    • @piotrkowalski451
      @piotrkowalski451 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Mr.Truxton Well...It is arguable that the famous big 4 bands were the first to do thrash. It is also arguable that metal is about having fun.I would rather say that it has always been about expressing anger and rebellion. And about talking topics that mainstream music has been avoiding for decades.Death, evil,Satan, chaos, fear, murder, mutilation, violence, dark sexual urges ,religious oppression etc...
