It's like, idk, maybe examine that a little?

I believe the proposal is the best part, it shows you are willing to sacrifice so much to spend eternity with the one you hold the most dearest. But then again majority of marriages in end divorce, so there is that lingering fear.
Also the B-plot with her little brother and his wife not knowing eachother well could have made such a great movie. Or never going deeper into the whole thing with his parents/mom never being around, or her sisters relationship with her husband. They started like 20 better movies in the background.
I DEF kept thinking the lil bro/fiance thing would turn into something more. At the very least a counterpoint for the mains. Like they could realize that even though they're just holidates, they know more about each other than these engaged people... But oh well

I know you're making a joke, but I just wanted to point out that parents can and should have discussions about safe sex with their teenagers. I wish my parents hadn't pretended like sex didn't exist... a little guidance beforehand would have made it a lot easier to learn about boundaries and stuff.

I know I'm a stone cold freak and I'm real serious about taking down stigma (because it's slowly killing us all, and actually not that slowly), but I plan on getting *real* real with my kids in multiple detailed talks about physical and emotional/social safety and wellness so far as sex is concerned. I went through some real rough stuff because my mom basically dumped a pile of (mostly Christian!) puberty books in my lap with little to no info on actual sex and told me to ask her any questions I might have. Then when I did she usually looked kind of alarmed/determined - stuff like what a condom or a quickie is, not even anything that shocking. I just wasn't taught how to take care of myself or advocate for myself to judge the safety of my partners or what to expect, etc. Spoiler alert: Bad people look for that, and a couple of them found me. Until the various educational systems of the world pick up our global slack with some woke and thorough sex ed, it's on all of us to have age-appropriate discussions about sex with teenagers. Nobody wants to do it, but it is our solemn moral duty. I have answered my younger cousins many an uncomfortable question and none of us have died of shame yet. I've even volunteered information and suggested good sex ed websites to some random teens on the subway who were speculating wildly amongst themselves.
You guys really get a real talk about sexual matters with your parents? I don't know if i should envy or pity you out of second embarassment. Where i live something will be teached (reproductive systems and some sex education) at school but a part from that it's up to you to discover more

The movie was filmed "on scene in Vancouver," but the one in Canada since the one in Washington, where I am, wouldn't entertain the idea, even though other movies have been allowed in this area. Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington were like, FUCK NO to Fifty Shades.

Well, in my experience, kinda. My family doesn't shove guys down my throat but they teased me a lot about being single. Every Christmas or birthday party I was getting the 'You're so pretty why are you still single' talk from most of my family. Then when I started dating my ex, they shifted to 'When are you getting married/having babies?', which was annoying as well. Now I'm single again and thanks to Covid I won't hear the dumb questions this year, although my parents friend asked me the other day when I was planning on starting having kids. My answer was, I'll try in vitro in 6 years. She was so embarrased!
It's not this dramatic, but yeah a lot of parents act kinda like this. It's especially jarring if they spent 90% of your childhood yelling about how they'll smack you for making eye contact with a boy, but then you turn 24 and suddenly it's "haha so when are you giving me grandkids?" No, this movie is basic but the two leads have chemistry and I like Emma Roberts so... I enjoyed myself. Amanda's right though. They should have cut that scene where they're trying to figure out if they'd slept together.

There's no need to be ashamed of yourself dude, you have a degree! That's awesome, that takes more work than some people realize. You might be overthinking it, putting too much stock into finding someone and changing your status. Go with the flow, enjoy yourself, do things you wanna do just for you and someone will come along, probably when you least expect it. And that way, you won't put too much pressure on yourself. Plus, there is no defined age you SHOULD do anything, everyone does things at their own pace and that is perfectly okay.

I want a movie with this concept but it's about a lesbian and a gay guy who aren't out to their families yet so they agree to "date" each other beard-style and try to secretly set each other up whilst becoming good friends Maybe the climax of the movie is they attend each other's holiday coming outs and the gay guy's goes well but the lesbian's doesn't (or vice versa), so she's bitter that he has an accepting family and lashes out at him And then a girl shows up at her door and she's really cute and compatible with the lesbian and she's like "Hey the gay dude sent me, he thought you and I would get along" and she goes to him and is like "hey sorry I got mad btw I have a gay friend looking for love who would like you" and then they get together and the ending is the four of them having a Christmas party together I don't know why I feel the need to write whole ass movies in these comments but there you go
This, but the gay guy comes out because he's fallen in love with the lesbian's brother or cousin and the guy feels the same way. They share glances at first, then touch hands, and so forth until they can't deny the attraction any longer and they start seeing each other behind everyone's backs (including the lesbian friend). She finds out, is unhappy that he didn't tell her and jealous that he is so lucky in love, and they fight. Maybe he accuses her of being into him, and she storms off. Then while they're apart she goes out to a cafe on her own and has a meet-cute with another lesbian. She realizes that she was just jealous that he found someone, and that she's limiting herself by hiding who she really is. Then you have a big scene where she apologizes to him and says that. Maybe at his coming out party. You can have her family be surprisingly accepting of her gay friend and have them talk about how they know this is just who he is and they've always loved him. And then when she comes out they show her that same sentiment, and let her know that they were just afraid of how society would treat her if she came out.

I thought it'd factor into the whole family needing a reality check or to parallel Sloane/Jackson's relationship's foundation but nope, nothing. with regards to the dumb brother, I'm surprised with all the cliches in here they didn't do the "Asian parents disapprove of daughter's dumb and non-Chinese partner" thing, but I guess that's a plus. the way I saw a lot of the characters was that they were privileged and had the means to have great lives and relationships but still floundered due to personal ineptitude and lack of introspection and/or therapy. but I kind of doubt that's what they were going for lol

This reminds me of the movie the holiday breakup. It was also a movie about a "couple" during a bunch of different holidays throughout the year. In that movie they were exes that both agreed that they would rather keep up the pretense of being together than deal with the pity and unsolicited advice of their friends and families during the holidays. That reason makes more sense than whatever this movie was.
My favorite rom-com is one with a very unexpected outcome, My Bestfriend’s Wedding. Totally expected the dude to call off the wedding and go with the friend. But no, he stayed with his wife, which was a good decision because the friend was sort of crazy. Anyways, 10/10, would recommend.

I honestly wish I could be happy with myself and being alone. I know I shouldn't peg my self esteem to being with someone else and I'm trying. I actually started going to therapy and that's one of the things I want to tackle because I genuinely feel like no one will ever be romantically interested in me and it hurts, so I want to see if I can just cut myself emotionally in that regard. The whole laxative situation actually happened to my brother once. After a performance we headed out to our car and my brother wanted some ibuprofen (I think) like now. So he's in a hurry and didn't read the bottle bc he assumed my mother did and just took the appropriate amount. After he took it I read the bottle and it was laxatives and we rushed home.

Amanda, Christmas starts even earlier in the handcrafted arts world than for retail. Pre-Covid I worked for a community art centre as the office admin in charge of organizing all the shows, and I would start organizing the Christmas show in early August and sorting submissions for adjudication in September, then dealing with marketing and inventory lists, demo and volunteer schedules, etc. by the end of Sep, beginning of Oct. It was surreal. I wouldn't let them start playing Christmas music in the gallery until the end of November though. At least I had the power to prevent that.

Well, in my experience, kinda. My family doesn't shove guys down my throat but they teased me a lot about being single. Every Christmas or birthday party I was getting the 'You're so pretty why are you still single' talk from most of my family. Then when I started dating my ex, they shifted to 'When are you getting married/having babies?', which was annoying as well. Now I'm single again and thanks to Covid I won't hear the dumb questions this year, although my parents friend asked me the other day when I was planning on starting having kids. My answer was, I'll try in vitro in 6 years. She was so embarrased!

No, this movie is basic but the two leads have chemistry and I like Emma Roberts so... I enjoyed myself. Amanda's right though. They should have cut that scene where they're trying to figure out if they'd slept together.

There's no need to be ashamed of yourself dude, you have a degree! That's awesome, that takes more work than some people realize. You might be overthinking it, putting too much stock into finding someone and changing your status. Go with the flow, enjoy yourself, do things you wanna do just for you and someone will come along, probably when you least expect it. And that way, you won't put too much pressure on yourself. Plus, there is no defined age you SHOULD do anything, everyone does things at their own pace and that is perfectly okay.

Maybe the climax of the movie is they attend each other's holiday coming outs and the gay guy's goes well but the lesbian's doesn't (or vice versa), so she's bitter that he has an accepting family and lashes out at him
And then a girl shows up at her door and she's really cute and compatible with the lesbian and she's like "Hey the gay dude sent me, he thought you and I would get along" and she goes to him and is like "hey sorry I got mad btw I have a gay friend looking for love who would like you" and then they get together and the ending is the four of them having a Christmas party together

This, but the gay guy comes out because he's fallen in love with the lesbian's brother or cousin and the guy feels the same way. They share glances at first, then touch hands, and so forth until they can't deny the attraction any longer and they start seeing each other behind everyone's backs (including the lesbian friend). She finds out, is unhappy that he didn't tell her and jealous that he is so lucky in love, and they fight. Maybe he accuses her of being into him, and she storms off. Then while they're apart she goes out to a cafe on her own and has a meet-cute with another lesbian. She realizes that she was just jealous that he found someone, and that she's limiting herself by hiding who she really is. Then you have a big scene where she apologizes to him and says that. Maybe at his coming out party. You can have her family be surprisingly accepting of her gay friend and have them talk about how they know this is just who he is and they've always loved him. And then when she comes out they show her that same sentiment, and let her know that they were just afraid of how society would treat her if she came out.

This reminds me of the movie the holiday breakup. It was also a movie about a "couple" during a bunch of different holidays throughout the year. In that movie they were exes that both agreed that they would rather keep up the pretense of being together than deal with the pity and unsolicited advice of their friends and families during the holidays. That reason makes more sense than whatever this movie was.
I watched this last night and was like damn there are gonna be some great commentary videos made from this.
My favorite rom-com is one with a very unexpected outcome, My Bestfriend’s Wedding. Totally expected the dude to call off the wedding and go with the friend. But no, he stayed with his wife, which was a good decision because the friend was sort of crazy. Anyways, 10/10, would recommend.

I haven't heard Canadians complain about the weather but you can't possibly hold it over the Bostonians. I grew up in northwestern WY and oh my good giddy god can these soft East Coast cityfolk complain. It's too hot, too cold, too humid, too dry, too snowy, not snowy enough, there's *too many leaves on the ground*. Talk about a flock call, they'll jaw about it for like ten minutes while I stand there baffled.
I honestly wish I could be happy with myself and being alone. I know I shouldn't peg my self esteem to being with someone else and I'm trying. I actually started going to therapy and that's one of the things I want to tackle because I genuinely feel like no one will ever be romantically interested in me and it hurts, so I want to see if I can just cut myself emotionally in that regard.
It is not easy for everyone. I'm glad it has been for you, but every time you made a comment about that it sounded like: "Don't be depressed, just cheer up"

The whole laxative situation actually happened to my brother once. After a performance we headed out to our car and my brother wanted some ibuprofen (I think) like now. So he's in a hurry and didn't read the bottle bc he assumed my mother did and just took the appropriate amount. After he took it I read the bottle and it was laxatives and we rushed home.

Amanda, Christmas starts even earlier in the handcrafted arts world than for retail. Pre-Covid I worked for a community art centre as the office admin in charge of organizing all the shows, and I would start organizing the Christmas show in early August and sorting submissions for adjudication in September, then dealing with marketing and inventory lists, demo and volunteer schedules, etc. by the end of Sep, beginning of Oct. It was surreal. I wouldn't let them start playing Christmas music in the gallery until the end of November though. At least I had the power to prevent that.
