@@AlexA-lz4iw what do you mean? are you asking where it says that angels sing? if so, then look at basically any description of heaven in the bible where it describes the angels singing praises to god and if that's supposedly been their main pastime since the beginning of time, then one can safely assume that they would be without an equal. (assuming of course that you believe in the bible) [Sidenote] are you one of the people who just now found out about "biblically accurate angels" from all those memes and are now trying to flaunt that knowledge on people?
I think Alexa's comment comes from an issue of language barriers - we don't notice it but English is littered with idioms and phrases which have second meanings. As a dude who vaguely know how to sing in a somewhat baritone voice , the breathing techniques , his voice is just black magic. Countless hours of training , and some voodoo sacrifice that i don`t know about ... His voice is just pure perfection .
@@jaybonn5973 Most "Counter-Tenors" are actually Baritones or Tenors. They should train themselves to have strong head voices. I myself am a lyrical Baritone and can somewhat sing in counter-tenor. :)
These are true musicians: A pianist with flipflops, a fine singer looking like a college-student performing high quality music as the most important thing to do in this moment. I think (and hope) that this is admirable even when you're not a fan of this kind of music. Thank you for sharing this video.
4 yrs ago during my dad's hospice I'd play Jakub for him.My dad was a tenor. Gifted with a lucid mind until last he fell asleep.I would sit with him listening to Jakub.Sometimes he'd smile big .
how positively post-modernist : the voice of an angel in a disheveled, non-ironed young man, accompanied by a pianist reading sheet music off an iPad and all this not mentionning the Vivaldi-polish descent and French festival connection... Chucks, what a time to be alive !
The difference of Jakub's rendition compared to the older renditions is the power of his voice, it talks to you/directed at the audience and bouncing all around. Still, counter-tenors are always stunning.
The story behind it is that, it was for a french radio statio, he didn't know he was going to be filmed, and the weather very hot, as it was filmed in Aix-en-Provence, southern France.
FYI: Orliński put on baggy shorts and beat-up sneakers, and rolled up the sleeves of a crumpled tattersall shirt: this was radio, after all, and it was ninety degrees outside. Only when he and his pianist, Alphonse Cémin, who was in shorts and flip-flops, arrived at the recording venue-a courtyard with a small audience-did they learn that the performance was also to be streamed on Facebook Live. It was too late for Orliński to change clothes, and so he sang just as he was-unshaven, and dressed as if ready for a day of sleeping it off under the Provençal plane trees.
For anyone curious, the pianist and vocalist were not informed that this performance would have cameras, only that it would be a radio broadcast, hence the casual clothing. Honestly tho, who cares, you sound that good, you can wear whatever you damn well please
His cheeky little proud smile at the end when the audience applaudes him and he knows he just killed it, so cute, also his sense of accomplishment in that moment, so deserved.
I keep coming back to this particular performance of this song. The thing that attracts me the most is the beauty in the simplicity of the moment; how it opens, unexpectedly, like a flower. It's mesmerizing.
And the fact that it was a spontaneous performance! For those who don't know: Jakub and the pianist were in a radio interview (and dressed for radio) when they were asked to fill in for another musician at this lunchtime concert in Aix en Provence in France. There was no time to change so they did this totally off the cuff.
Yes, this performance is actually better than his album recording, probably because he is relaxed and his friend is at the piano and he knows ever y Nuance of his friend's playing.
@@proverbs31woman14 - the same arguably goes for Jaroussky's take on this piece; there's a live recording on here somewhere (or there used to be, haven't checked in a while) that's, IMO, vastly superior to what's on his "Heroes" album. Something to do with actually performing to an audience in addition to a mic, I suppose.
Yes, you have a point there. I have performed live, and also in a recording studio, and recording in a studio, I can tell you that no matter how many times you do it, it always has a stilted awkward feel. You have a group of studio people staring at you through a booth. You usually are wearing headphones so you hear your voice in your head and it sounds off. When you perform live, it is almost always better! You get energy from the audience and you are performing for them. It's quite different.
sometimes, when i'm too numb and depressed to feel like living, i come watch this video and it cracks my heart open a little, and lets some warmth and beauty in

I watched this clip uncountable times. Every time i dream away, being there, being on a holiday, wandering around with the love of my life, strolling through little streets, bumping into an unexpected performance on a little sidecorner of small square, being baffled away by the music, the setting, the Jakub Jozef Orlinsky, the pianist, the moment. Without question, my favorite counter-tenor, and I am particularly drawn to this video - they really nailed the sound. For those present, it must have been sublime. Every time I come across this, I go down a rabbit hole of some of his best performances. Though I also always remember that at 4:48 his facial expression does look like a person who suddenly experiences what they have done to the Star Wars trilogy the last 20 years, all at once.
agreed, but when I was subjected to The Last Jedi I can guarantee the horror and dismay showing on my face was much greater then what Jakub displays here.
He owns this aria now. While other singers may also convey their desire, Orlinski makes you want to BE the object of his desire, to BE his "soul of my soul ... heart of my heart", for whom he sings with such intensity.
Absolutely! I've listened to other performers singing this aria...and no matter how good they are, there's just no comparison, not even close. He's made this his own, and none can surpass this.

Great music by legend Antonio Vivaldi, far too often overshadowed by his masterpiece the Four Seasons. Incredible singing, with fantastic control and intonation. Also, nice accompaniment.

Standards of behaviour and dress code have changed coutless times since the Roman Emire fell. I wonder what model of exquisitely made sandals (one and only, probably:-)), a 1st century Roman senator would wear to a concert at the court :-)
They got booked for a studio recording. Jakub asked about the dress code beforehand. It was the booker's/agent's responsibility, not theirs. They showed up and delivered - and looked amazing, too.
Why are the comments so focused on this guy's looks? I mean, there is much more. I thought his expressiveness was just exceptional. He reminded me of a modern day Alfred Deller. Every note counted. This was extremely impressive.
Because not only is his voice beautiful but so is his person. As a woman, it is a diffrent experience listening and feeling the resonance of such a gifted man awhilst imagining him in a loin clothes. Just saying. If it was peewee herman singing we'd just focus on the voice
Because people these days focus mostly on the externality and not on the internality of other people... They don't see his unique singing expressions from his soul but just see his muscles....

FYI:
Orliński put on baggy shorts and beat-up sneakers, and rolled up the sleeves of a crumpled tattersall shirt: this was radio, after all, and it was ninety degrees outside.
How lucky for us he didn't shy away from it just because there was some lack of proper communication beforehand.

There was no time to change so they did this totally off the cuff.

Something to do with actually performing to an audience in addition to a mic, I suppose.
Yes, you have a point there. I have performed live, and also in a recording studio, and recording in a studio, I can tell you that no matter how many times you do it, it always has a stilted awkward feel. A perfect answer to everyone who foolishly imagines that countertenors are all freakish skinny creatures with girls' underwear. This man is so fabulous, he can sing anything and draw drooling crowds. Keep it up and be a wise man - you have everything to be a global opera star, don't blow it.
Agree. And to top it off, and hard to believe maybe, he does a fantastic acrobatic breakdance.
@@VIKTORTRAPPSTEG I actually would believe it, but am not aware though :-)
AghashQ yeah looks like you blew it and then some
AghashQ What is up with all the homosexuals on this video? Just watch please , I don’t promote my heterosexual tendencies and stance. Just watch, be homosexual at home I just came to see comments about his range, pitch and tone. But I’m surrounded by homosexuality. It’s uncomfortable 😣 and sad that I don’t promote my heterosexual stance. There is no need unless I feel the need to be seen because I have self esteem issues.
@@lilmattmondays6814 what's up with heterosexuals like you thinking sarcasm about being homosexuals in this video? I came to listen to music and maybe compliment looks, but your overbloated self-esteem is enough to give you a brain-gina.
Cada vez que lo escucho, no puedo evitar cerrar los ojos y comienzan mis lágrimas a escurrir!!!! Toca fibras muy muy sensibles y profundas de mi alma!!!!💗
His voice is divinely ethereal and he looks like an angel straight from a renaissance painting
