You are right, the combination sounds amazing, but the blond guy is definitely not a deep bass. He has an amazing tone but at least in this piece he is singing in a nice baritone range. And the ease of the high notes indicates that he indeed is a baritone instead of bass. Not meaning to lessen the performance here! It is really nice to listen to! Just not deep bass ;-)
I was wondering too, but I guess it does make sense, just not to us. I play in an orchestra and sometimes the conducter doesn't even conduct anymore, he just kind of waves his hands somewhat fitting and we all know what to play.
He's conducting the choir. Even if you can't see them singing, some are humming. You can tell it by the way they are moving their mouth. I was in a choir before for 3 years, it helps to look at the conductor to guide in modulating your voice and tempo.
I could never understand why the Russians were so good in these classical arts, literature, music, voice, dance. The difference is that a baritone can't produce those notes as loudly as a bass can nor can they always produce those bass notes. Once a baritone's vocal chords are warmed up, it is more difficult to hit those notes. Other things like having not talked much in the day, having a commond cold or singing in the morning can help a baritone hit those notes. Training can also help.

@Amida Butsu In the Church, according to the Testament of the Apostle Paul, married women usually cover their heads with a scarf, hood, or cap, while men, on the contrary, remove their hats from their heads. This tradition is still observed, but it is not rigid. In churches, there is usually a stack of clean headscarfs at the entrance, which can be used to cover the shoulders and head or tie them around the waist if the skirt is short.
They sound like angels. The contrast between the young soloist’s pure, echoing, high notes, and the older soloist’s rich baritone is ethereal. Truly otherworldly. I got goosebumps multiple times.

You are right, the combination sounds amazing, but the blond guy is definitely not a deep bass. He has an amazing tone but at least in this piece he is singing in a nice baritone range. @@rtrich.93 Baritones can hit bass notes down to a certain level, to be sure. The difference is that a baritone can't produce those notes as loudly as a bass can nor can they always produce those bass notes. Once a baritone's vocal chords are warmed up, it is more difficult to hit those notes.
