    i did feel bad for him since the day he saw the memories, imagine living in peace wanting to be with someone you love and your friends but your entire family and race is being erased cuz of their ancestors and you have to carry all that burden and power to achieve the dream of letting others live their life while you dont, bro sacrificed the world for his friends and didnt get to live the life he wanted with mikasa PLUS he was only 19 years old, bro was just an emotional ass kid that lived a tragic life

      well put. if you read the lyrics of the final season ending then it'll make sense. hell even the op has some lyrics that can confirm what goes through eren's mind like "all i wanted was to save your life i never wanted to hold the knife" i'm paraphrasing but something akin to that lyric is in the final season op.

      Yes, just is pov changed so his action changed. His character become more mature, stoic and focused on what have been done. He decided his own fate cause he was in the dilemma of kill or getting killed( Darwinism). The first sentence in the first opening is :" Sind wir das Essen? Nein wir sind die Jäger/ Yaeger!" That means:" Are we the food? No we are the hunter!" He is along with Guts one of the most tragical characters ever written.

    • @bizarre_jaco
      @bizarre_jaco 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      We're the same. If Attack on Titan has taught us anything, is that siding with anyone with "big ideals" is useless (and with that I mean the Survey Corps, the Yeagerists, the Eldians and the Marleyans). I personally empathize with the characters as "people", and in my opinion it makes a lot of sense, judging by the message the ending carries. My top 5 are Erwin, Eren, Reiner, Levi and Zeke, also Bertholdt has a special place.

    • @daniaaal
      @daniaaal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      My top three are Eren, Reiner and Armin. Armin might be a 'controversial' one considering people don't like his flawed decisions and inactions in Season 4, but that's exactly why I like Armin. I think Armin serves as an important narrative device to Isayama's own perspective into wars and violence, that there is more to living than being stuck in that treacherous cycle.
      Armin has always been someone who's rather disinterested in fighting; he just wants to discover the world and get to know what and who are in them. He clings on to the hope that there is peace, even if it's so naive and futile in a cruel world like AOT. And he is a reminder to us viewers that we are sort of hypocrites if we believe that we can do good without getting our hands dirty in the midst of wars and violence (shoutout to Bertholdt for that important line). To me, Armin's flaws are a reflection of how someone who wants to do good and keep their hands as clean as possible probably won't survive a cruel world without someone else paying the price. That in the end, you have to let go of those ideals in order to do what's necessary (something that Eren has fully embraced once Season 4 began).
      And despite all that, despite all the cruelty he has seen, Armin still sees the good in people. He has never been consumed by revenge nor rage like Eren (even Eren acknowledges Armin's necessary qualities to the world, when he said in Season 3 Part 2, "the one who will save humanity is not me nor Commander Erwin, it's Armin!"). To me, Armin symbolises the breakage of the cycle of revenge, because to forgive takes something deeper, more sincere than anything vengeance can ever bring.

    • @MrMetaVal
      @MrMetaVal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@daniaaal Well I do agree to a certain extent but I think Armin is a character that you want before or after war not during war. The reason why I didn't put him in my top 3 is because his choices don''t hold as much responsabilities as the one I cited above. He's still a good character and was necessary.
      Now on the other hand I don't agree that Eren was consumed by rage and revenge in the last season, it's the contrary. He was the most calm and collect individual but used his past rage to fueled his determination to keep moving forward. He understood his enemy and even had empathy and guilt for them mainly for what he's about to do but he had a choice to make.
      The hardest choices require the strongest will and unfortunately for the world, he had the srongest will. He didn't blame others for his fate or choices, neither victimized himself anymore, which a lot of peoples tends to do. Pushing responsabilities and blame into others. Eren and Erwin shouldered everything and that's why they are my favorites characters.

  • @ariesdemiurge

    I mean whether or not Eren deserves sympathy is more one of those philosophical questions to ponder since there's no easy answer, although this was a good take. The real issue I took with the shitstorm surrounding the ending was how people acted like Eren's breakdown was out of nowhere and his character was ruined, because they kept seeing him as this stoic, swave, evil mastermind playing 4D chess on everyone, above showing any human emotion.
    And with that I'd like to reference anytime he shifted into his Attack Titan, or the moments before he fully activated the Founder, or when Eren broke down infront of Ramses despite his plan already being in motion.

    • @Sxshhi
      @Sxshhi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Exactly bro. Anybody who thought of Eren as this unbreakable, unfeeling machine who didn’t care about anything severely misunderstood his character. The last chapter humanizing him is meant to show just how wrong he was for activating the rumbling and if ppl believe Isayama humanizing Eren ruined his character, then they must also believe that the rumbling was justified which in no way in hell can u justify the rumbling.

    @Swishyz7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +118

    I feel like eren jeager is so misunderstood and the biggest reason is that it was prophecy, he saw the future and he couldn’t change it no matter what he did, Kenny ackerman said that everyone’s a slave to something, eren is a slave to freedom. Eren is the person in the show about wanting to be free the most but he’s tied to a predetermined fate in the hands of Ymir the founder, so he was never free because In the end he is bound to his predetermined destiny to unleash the rumbling. People always say eren is evil and stuff like that when he’s not even the villain, he’s just fulfilling the predetermined destiny that is bound to happen. Eren is one of the best if not the best written character in any media ever and I can’t even explain to you why but he just is, his character development as well is awesome, he went from his world view being black and white and thinking all titans are bad all humans are good until he discovered he was a titan himself and humans were once titans, then went to Marley and discovered that it’s just like paradis, good and bad people on both sides. The dawn of humanity episode is such a great episode because in the beginning when eren first reached marley and everyone was eating ice cream and he had a blank yet worried impression on his face it was one of two things for me, either he was watching the rumbling unfold or he was contemplating it. But me personally I’ve always been on erens side even during the rumbling because of all the f’ed up stuff he had to endure.

    I'll always feel pity for Eren.Tragic, like the whole world.
    Honestly I always hated across the show that the ppl placed so many weight to his shoulder. In this world and especially the aot world the mind crack come easily.I believe that I understand Eren's character and feel honest pity still don't agree with his actions. It's not my mother language so I 'll stop here and don't deep down of the psychology.
    Btw, if Isayama really listening every detail and outcome Eren's psyche and knowledge of the world simply show that he is a kid in his mind. For example (not mention his "solution" for the problems) he'd like that his ppl just live on and be happy. If I don't mention their trauma and stuff still they'll can't live happy, bc of Eren's action what effect economy and will be terrible outcome to the world. Yeah, it's will regenerate but not their lifetime.
    I love the ending and don't want another for the anime. Eren's breakdown? Like an 40 years old women, who never see or read manga just this one, I understand and who's don't I think they've try to see it another way.Eren will be dead and he don't wanna die. Plus there the guilty feeling. I think everybody speak from heart on their death bed. He scared like fck. Ok, I still wrestling with Armin's "thanks that you become a murderer for us" line, but it's don't do much with Eren.
    I cried on the end bc I hate the world this way. Don't matter who and what did the world cruel. And I like that how portrait this Isayama in the manga pages.
    Good video, I think it was great idea that you separate in two Eren for the better understanding.🙂

Then committed genocide on the entire world, even the countries considering alliances with paradis. All while knowing he'd lose in the end.

Especially how Isayama concluded his character during 139's Armin's question as to why he did the Rumbling. you know what's also amazing to me? Eren tried to escape the "fate" that was written for him. He tried to break out of doing what was coming and he tried to talk to Mikasa (or at least get an answer from her that would prevent him from doing what he did to the world). Had Mikasa been straight up with Eren about her feelings in that one scene I really like to think that Eren would 100% given up on that goal and probably stayed. I think he was looking for a way out. But everything just seemed to align, everything happened how it happened and now he's on the path to destroy the world.
    What I don't think people also understand is that his love for every single one of his friends is so deep that he was willing to destroy the world in order to give them freedom and willing to give them proper lives. But that's not all! Eren also in doing so wanted to get rid of the curse of Ymir (which he did!). He set her free, and set the world free from titans, he set the future inheritors free from death, he set Armin free from death, he saved his people of Paradis, but most importantly he SAVED his friends. That's what this whole thing is about and that's what people miss, he did it for all these reasons, while he himself being a slave. The emotional and psychological trauma but the fucking resolve it must have taken to do that is unreal.
    I am currently in an ethics class as part of my school's dentistry program and there was one problem poised to the class:
    Imagine there was a train speeding your way and the railroad split into two railroads (one to the left and one to the right). On one side of the split there are 10 people tied down to the railroad. On the other side of the split your father and mother are tied down to the railroad. You alone are closest to a lever that would direct the speeding train either one way or the other. What do you do? do you save 10 random people or do you save 2 people (but those being your parents). What is the correct thing to do? What is the wrong thing to do? Is it better to save more people? Is it better to stay loyal and save your parents? THIS is what Eren was faced with and this is a question none of us have an answer to

What do u think after lelouch died war never fought btwn countries for eternity? 1st of all eren situation was more critical than lelouch, he's bounded by fixed time where he knows the future but can't change a thing so he have to just keep moving forward and his goal was to eradicate all titans ( which would only possible if Ymir got satisfied - rumbling and Mikasa killing eren Only two ways to satisfy Ymir) and let his friends live peacefully tho peace isn't for eternity , after century or so paradise was bombed as no one can stop war but by that time eren's friends died peacefully 💀 dude 1st understand then argueNo actually it's just a human having a human nature !! He doesn't want to be a mysterious hero or something !!! He's doin things for himself!!! Ending was perfect !! Actually is not a time loop but kinda like a time loop !!! Eren did what he saw in his future memories didn't have a choice ! U may see him as a psychopath but he solve problems that would be faced by future humans !!! He took down all the titans from existance tho killing 80% of people as he wouldn't have a choice!!! By killing the founding titan only u can resolve threat of titans !!! If he could die he would by simply let Armin kill him and became the saviour of humanity!!! But Ymir also decides whether eren will die or not !! Curse of Ymir !!! Ymir wants to move on from king fritz Mikasa inspired Ymir by killing eren!!! That's why Ymir let eren die !!! Offf and much more I can't write!!

      Ohhh I got confused as I was reading this comment cuz I thought u mistook my video as calling Eren a simple villain which is clearly not what I meant😭The simple fact is this, Eren’s not a stable person anymore. Justifying his actions is a bad thing. We can understand that at the end of the day, he was a poor guy who was given too much of a burden to handle which is why he made fucked up decisions that u can never justify.

    In my opinion i see it more that he was always like this, he has always been the same, what changed was the perspective of the world. For me the key moments that define his character are these 3:
    - When he says that he has always been this way to Zeke when he asked him why he's doing all this (in chapter 121).
    - When he tells Reiner that people are the way they are because of their nature. "I think we were born this way" (in chapter 100 ).
    - And when he tells Ramzi that he was disappointed on the rest of the world and that he WISHED to wipe it all away (in chapter 131).
    I don't think he should be excused and separted in 2 Erens, he stated himself multiple times that this is what he wanted and that he always have been this way. It's not necessary to take the blame away to his character.
    And lastly, i think he doesn't deserve empathy since he himself as a human being didn't have enough empathy to not commit genocide on billions of innocent people outside the walls, and less when he deep down knew this wasn't 100% necessary to ensure Paradis future, he did it for himself. For me he has always been someone naturally evil/aggressive, although he has view and appreciate the beauty of life on Armin, Mikasa and his friends as you say in the video, but his obsession with "freedom" didn't let him appreciate it fully.
    Great video tho, it's an interesting way of seeing Eren's character.

    • @Sxshhi
      @Sxshhi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      All very reasonable points, fair enough. I agree that his perspective of the world changed and that change came from kissing historia's hand. Now when I separated Eren into 2 Erens, I didn't really mean it quite literally. It was jus a way to indicate how broken his psyche is since Eren has no grip on reality due to the merging of the past, present and future. So the 2 Erens were jus to point out the difference in Eren before he made contact with Historia in which at that point Eren was stable and the Eren after he kissed Historia in which he became deranged and lost touch with the world.
      I am by no means exempting him from blame as what he did is obv pretty fucked up lmfao but the reason why it may seem like im trying to provide clarity for his actions is because of how he was treated as this simplistic evil character in which the last chapter ruined his character. i'm not necessarily telling people to be empathetic to him but rather to be aware of jus how twisted and tragic Eren really is. I disagree on calling him evil as his morality is rlly more nuanced than him ,jus being evil. Evil would be someone like Johan from Monster however if u view him as an evil person because of his actions that's still understandable as what he did can never be forgiven.
      Thx for the feedback tho i rlly appreciate it :)

      @@Sxshhi Oh, i see now what you mean by 2 Erens, that's really good. And yeah, when i say evil i don't explicitly mean like an evil villain like Johan or someone like the slaver king Fritz, but more like someone psychopathic that can be morally good in the inside but can't control himself in certain occasions and end up hurting a lot of people, i'm not saying that Eren is 100% a psychopath either because there is a lot of factors in the story and it could be more complicated than that. But yeah, he's definitely doing everything by his will, and everything that he's doing is evilish and wrong, so yeah, i end up drawing that conclusion.
      But either way, Eren's character is quite a complex topic to talk about, you can spend hours and hours talking about it and how deep it is and never get bored, that's why i like this show and Eren's character so much, it's just top tier. And is funny because it's seems to be too complex for those who hate his character now for not being the nationalist fascist that they wanted him to be in the last chapters, the chad Eren that was right and knew it was the only option 😆.
      It's a pretty good video, you express yourself quite well, keep the good work 👍

      Ive started to really agree with this perspective. Rewatching the show and seeing Eren through a different lense, i also noticed the following:
      -Eren wishing "something would happen" when he was a kid right before the walls collapsed. Told me he wasnt satisfied with normal life
      -The way he killed those kidnappers, super aggressive for a kid
      -Telling Reiner and Bert that he would kill them in the most painful way possible with a crazy look in his eyes
      I think Eren really was a bit unhinged from the beginning. I also don't think he's inherently evil either, just his personality and circumstances led him to what he became.

      Great comment but I think you have a mistake. Those people are not innocent. Yes, they are not soldiers and don't fight eldians physically, but all of them are supporting the extermination of eldian race and paradise folk. In the show, we didn't see opposition to wiping out eldians. The only thing we can consider an opposition was Zeke Yeager and his supporters(marleyans, eastern folks etc.) but their idea was just doing that in a long way by race euthanization. As we saw in the Anime all the people on mainland are accepting and appreciating the genocide towards eldians. At the end you are saying a man who killed his murderers is evil and cannot be empathized.

      I appreciate that🙏🏽 n ye that’s what I thought too. I think that moment in which he says Idk n then it flashes Grisha sayin ur free Eren just as he was born truly indicates to what degree Eren wasn’t aware of if he was free or not because Grisha must’ve seen how Eren was gonna turn out (due to him being the attack titan holder) n so he alr knew of Eren’s fundamental conflict with freedom which is why he told a baby Eren that he was already free n he didn’t need to worry about anything else. To me, the only one responsible for everything that happened was Ymir, she too had complete control of past present and future, to an even bigger extent than Eren, and I believe she manipulated everyone to manufacture a situation where she could metaphorically take revenge on the old king Fritz through Mikasa killing Eren
    When Eren rushed to Ymir and "freed" her from her obsession with doing everything the royals asked of her, Eren immediatly realized something was wrong and asked if she planned this out before obtaining full access to the founding titan and becoming the representation of all the evil King Fritz wanted Ymir to do
    In the end theres not a single version of Eren that had freewill, not "Founding Eren" and even less the "Present Eren", since the first was manipulated by Ymir to become a Super Villain so he can "free" her and then become her sacrifical lamb so she can have a self inflicted theraphy sesion, and the latter was manipulated by the first
    This is a story of how an inmortal timeless deity became a slave of her own choosing, became traumatized by her bad choice and then forced millions and millions of people to become her slaves so she can show herself that she can infact be free and happy if she chooses to be, and that's when she changes her own past by letting Fritz die
    I feel pity because Eren had to carry the sins of Ymir, Killing 80% of the planet and Letting himself Die, so that She can be happy.

    • @alexvaughan1013
      @alexvaughan1013 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. 139's biggest sin wasn't the "No, I don't want that!" scene, but how it essentially made Ymir the villain. She waited 2,000 years to get rid of Titan powers, and did it by ruining Eren and Mikasa's lives and massacring 80% of the planet.

    Great video! Although I disagree with some points you made, I really like what you said about Armin. He was always able to find happiness even when he was restricted behind the walls. Just reading the book of the outside world made him happy, where as for Eren it only fueled his inner rage and drive for “freedom”. In reality this was Eren’s cage. I love the contrast in chapter 131 of child Eren with adult Armin in paths. Armin is able to accept life for what it is and has grown and matured because of it, meanwhile Eren is still trapped as child, desperately fighting for his true freedom. It’s Eren’s own nature that makes him the least free.

    To understand Eren, we have to understand Darth Vader. For example:
    When Eren was freed from the Walls, he ended up becoming a slave by his desires for more freedom and the deaths of everyone in Marley. And when Anakin Skywalker was freed from Watto, he ended up becoming a slave again when he dedicated his commitment to the Jedi Order.
    So when Anakin saw the vision of his wife dying in childbirth, he began his quest to obtain the power to save her life, corrupting himself in the process. And when Eren Yeager saw the vision of the Rumbling, he believed that it could be the only thing that he can use to secure his own freedom and protect his friends from being killed or enslaved by Marley.
    One more thing, I got this video to you from Geetsly's channel to show that Anakin and Eren are basically the same. Here is the link to the video: th-cam.com/video/B8MY5dgoT9U/w-d-xo.html

    @lachlanle7940 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I already commented this post in several videos, but I will comment it again anyway:
    This what I think when Eren says *"When I learned that humanity lived beyond the walls, I was so disappointed."* I saw a lot of people trying to interpret the line as "Eren is disappointed because he saw the same oppression outside the walls as he saw in Paradis" or "he saw the same cycle of hatred/violence" or "he found that good/bad people exist outside the walls". And while those interpretations may not be invalid, I personally feel that the real meaning is much more straightforward than that. And I also feel that the same people considered this interpretation but willingly ignored it because of how it affects their perception of Eren.
    Firstly, I want to talk about a portion of the line that needs more attention, which is *"When I learned that humanity lived beyond the walls".* The key word here is "When". WHEN exactly did Eren learn that humanity lived outside the walls? When did his perception, that the people inside the wall were the last remenants of humanity, shatter? The answer is when Eren read Grisha's note on the back of the photograph, which says that humanity hasn't perished. The note didn't say anything about Eldia/Marley, or about oppression, or how that there are good/bad people outside the walls. The note simply says that humans exist outside the walls. And Eren learned this in the BASEMENT, NOT in his prison cell where he accessed Grisha's memories (or read the 3 books Grisha left behind), NOT at the sea where he was unsatisfied with the sight, and NOT in Marley where he realised that good/bad people exist.
    Next, if we looked at the context of the scene, Eren was confessing to Ramzi alone while crying. Eren crying means that he is expressing his true feelings and thoughts. Because Ramzi cannot understand the Eldian language, Eren can freely express his true thoughts without reprimandation. And when saying your true thoughts, *YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING CRYPTIC.* You say your true thoughts as you mean it.
    So when Eren says "When I learned that humanity lived beyond the walls, I was so disappointed", I think he was saying it as he literally means it. That he was simply disappointed because other people exist outside the walls. That these people had the AUDACITY to exist in the first place. That these people ruined his fantasy of an empty landscape beyond the walls where NO HUMANS exist and lands yet to be explored. Eren was so disappointed that he decided to trample the outside world to recreate the fantasy that he imagined as a child. The fantasy based on what Eren saw in Armin's book of the outside world. So even if the outside world was not hostile towards Paradis, Eren would have still wanted to destroy it. Of course, Eren did not enjoy killing millions people outside the walls, after all wasn't that why he cried in front of Ramzi? But Eren simply refused to let go off his idyllic fantasy.
    Now if all of that sounds childish and petty, that is because IT IS. It was why Eren was depicted as a literal CHILD in chapter 131. When child Eren said "Freedom", he was shown to be above the clouds and smoke where he cannot see the destruction below him. The destruction that Eren himself was causing. He only sees the vast, never-ending land to freely roam around. I think that's the "freedom" Eren wants. The "freedom" to do anything without taking responsibility, a child's view of "freedom".
    But that's just my own interpretation and I could maybe be wrong. What do you guys think?

  • @hutoutpizzad
    @hutoutpizzad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The only reason people do not sympathise with Eren is that they never really realise through all the manipulation and action that Eren was always what he said he was way in Season 1, he is human. Eren is also only 19, barely an adult. He is not some god, he is just a human and has his own flaws. Everyone wants a partner, everyone wants to live, and everyone wants to protect the country they were born in. Everyone wants to protect their pride, they do not want to be shamed. Eren was just dealt the worst cards ever by himself. And if anyone else was Eren, they would do the same thing. Founding Eren dictates what happens to his own fate, but that also made him a slave to himself, not the most free person in the world.

  • @SerenityOceania
    @SerenityOceania 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Let me see...
    "The real issue I took with the shitstorm surrounding the ending was how people acted like Eren's breakdown was out of nowhere and his character was ruined, because they kept seeing him as this stoic, swave, evil mastermind playing 4D chess on everyone, above showing any human emotion."
    Then your response:
    "Exactly bro. Anybody who thought of Eren as this unbreakable, unfeeling machine who didn’t care about anything severely misunderstood his character. The last chapter humanizing him is meant to show just how wrong he was for activating the rumbling and if ppl believe Isayama humanizing Eren ruined his character, then they must also believe that the rumbling was justified which in no way in hell can u justify the rumbling."
    That is laughable, did you take that out a textbook "Ending Defender" starter pack?
    Yeah, that's all I needed to know before I even wasted a second on the video.
    Every ending hater I know already understood that Eren had emotions. Chapter 131 when he cried to Ramzi, nobody bitched about Eren having emotions then, so I have no clue why Ending Defenders keep bringing this up like it's some 'GOTCHA' moment. It's that of all the things he would be crying about, it was about Mikasa of all people? What about the fact he butchered 80% of the global population? Why not make him breakdown at the thought that he had to kill his own mother? That would be an understandable reason for a breakdown. But Mikasa? The girl who had a pathetically one-sided romance? He barely gave her any attention. He had more chemistry with every other character in the manga! I don't even consider their relationship as tragic, they had four entire years to hook up, but Eren chose not to.
    The Rumbling was justified. The entire world declared war first and were about to bomb the living shit out of Paradis Island. Why are we supposed to root for this outside world when all Isayama gave us were racist, pieces of shit who were crying tears of joy (chapter 100) at the thought of destroying Paradis? The Eldians in Marley were lucky, it's canon they were actually treated better compared to the Eldians around the world! The Extra Pages in Volume 34 showed that Paradis was carpet bombed. Are you going to say that this was due to Civil War and not because of the 20% who were left alive by Eren?
    I cannot wait for the finale to release. Anime-onlies are going to find Eren's sudden shift jarring and out of character. Then what are you people going to say? Are you going to say Anime-Onlies misunderstood the ending? That they lack the comprehension to even fathom the 'character' of Eren? Don't worry, I'm sure they won't bend over backwards as hard than you guys.

      Mostly I agree with you
      I'm that person who is 100% neutral to the ending, I've never defended it or criticised it but the dialogue between Eren and Armin really confused me
      I'm ok with Eren crying but the reason should be either him having to kill his mother OR not being able to gain freedom which he had always wanted or both
      Also if Eren said he wanted Armin to be seen a hero, he should have erased the yeagerists' memories. Otherwise, it seemed like irrelevant words made up my Eren(Isayama) during the conversation
      I still think that there's no right in AOT and I've never sided with anyone but I used to think that Eren was wrong. It was a year ago
      Then, I found myself in Eren's shoes. Without any details, my country is also hated abroad and so on. And, yk, it really hurts, like a lot. Only then I finally understood Eren and his methods.
      But I'm totally fine with people defending or criticising the ending. Everyone has the right to have their own opinion, people tend to think differently. The only thing I hate is when ending defenders or haters criticize each other and call each other names just because they don't share the same opinion

    Without experience one can't change anything, so fixing mass murder of his kind, he had to experience that mass murder. Eren knew that, the founding Eren knew that. If Eren didn't get kruegar to do things, Eren wouldn't be born, there are so many things that would have destroyed Eren's plan, or Eren himself if founding Eren didn't influence to make the things that he knew that happened, happen. I bet Eren was so shook once he realized he was responsible for everything. He could have gotten everything he ever wanted back with his power, but he knew those small gains, that he would gain for himself, wouldn't help him gain the things he wanted to gain the entire series. Most people say Eren is evil, but wouldn't an evil person be searching for their "perfect world" not a perfect world for those around him. Making a world perfect for others would be considered a hero, and someone who does that with morally ambiguous actions is an antihero. Therefore Eren is the best. Sacrificing his entire being in order to give his friends s life.

    This was truly a great watch. I always thought that chapter 139 was a good ending, maybe a bit rushed - I’d have loved a few more panels so that the ending would feel more fleshed out. But it always hurt me how people seemed to not understand Eren at all. Which is due to the fact that he’s just so extensive. When I learned that „Shingeki no Kyojin“ can have multiple meanings and that one of the plot twists was the actual title being „The attack titan“ and NOT „attack on titan“ , it just clicked. Because Eren is not only the protagonist (that’s the view I had on him pre-plottwist wise)- he IS the story (the view after we learn the true powers of the Attack Titan, especially in combination with the Founding). Everything can be traced back to him (or as you said to „founding Eren“) which made him seem more like a concept than a human being. I guess that’s why a lot of the fandom was so shocked when Isayama reminded us that at the end of the day, Eren was also a human.
    Trapped within the concept („Founding Eren“) is the true Eren, deeply wanting but not being able to escape the fate that Founding Eren created for the whole world.
    I just think it’s genius

    I just hate one thing in the ending. Eren was able to control past pure titans (Dina). So, that means Eren caused every titan related death in history. Remember Mina and Thomas back in season 1, Yeah Eren was the one who killed them, because he needed that to happen. Butterfly effect or something. Isayama making the founding titan too OP was a big mistake. Its not far fetched to say that Eren was the one who let out the pigs. Or sine he can has the ability to control and affect the actions of all Subjects of Ymir in history, then he could be the one controlling King Fritz and dictating his choices. No founding titan in history was that OP, so why does Eren all of a sudden have this unique power. He's basically omniscient/omnipotent. Being so OP gave Eren the ability to complete the entire Rumbling, end the titan curse, and save his friends all at once. However, he did neither.

    • @Sxshhi
      @Sxshhi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      U acc brought up interesting points that could explain ur question if u look at it from a thematic standpoint. Eren being the one to fully use the founding titan powers the most makes sense if u think about who are the holders of the founding titan ability. We have 3 (I think) confirmed founding titan holders; Ymir, the Reiss family n Eren himself.
      Now we gotta look at the fundamentals of the founding titan ability. It’s essentially the ability to transcend life n time. Such a godlike power that he or she who chooses to act upon it will be so OP. Keywords being “chooses to act”. Ymir never had the will to fully use the founding titan power cuz she was a shy, Stockholm syndrome having child who was afraid to be independent n make her own decisions so she waited what must’ve felt millennia for someone to come liberate her. Then we got the Reiss family whom we know that even if they wanted to use the founding titan ability to help save mankind, the vow of renouncing war prevents them from having their own will anymore. It’s like their puppets guided by a weak soul who’s to afraid to move forward.
      In comes Eren. The man with the strongest will in all of AOT. The reason y he’s the one who’s able to fully utilize the founding titan ability n make it LOOK OP is cuz he’s the one with the will. If Ymir or the Reiss family truly had their own will, it would’ve been jus as OP in their hands but cuz they’re too afraid or their own will being literally rewired, it seems like they couldn’t utilize its full potential. The founding titan ability is clearly an ability that rewards its users with godlike powers If they wanna be a godlike figure which who in all of AOT possesses the desire n will to be a very strong n special figurehead? Eren. Eren being the only able to use the founding titan ability to its fullest potential falls in line with the thematic narrative of needing a dominant will so that the vow of renouncing war doesn’t affect u n what better of a character in this verse would be least likely to be affected by the enslavement of the founding titan? Eren Yeager.
      Now u may not like what he did with the power as that’s jus a moral debate but I think it serves to prove the thematic utility of the founding ability n Eren’s deluded psyche even more. Only a god can truly tap into the founding titan ability as Rod Reiss hints n Eren was deluded enough to think he was a god.

He only saw memories that were shared by his future self though so not everything. But imagine knowing that no matter what you do your going to have to kill all these people. my issue wasn't that eren cried his emotions are the essence of his character in fact the times when he cried and became emotional were the best and hit the hardest my issue is that he cried about wanting mikasa to find another man while people are gonna try to excuse this let's take a look to tye show
    the First time eren was about to die was when he was swallowed by a titan in that moment he didn't know he had titan powers so if he was a regular human he would have died right there and then when he cried he didn't cry because he didn't want mikasa to find another man he cried because of how crule tge world really is and because he remembered his mother during that moment not mikasa
    another time when he was supposed to die was in the reiss cave he was supposed to be eaten by historia then when he cried he cried because of the thousands that died because he had a power he didn't deserve (ie the founder)
    another time when he cried was the infamous 131 ramzi scene he cried not for mikasa but because he knew that he would commit atrocities that are unforgivable killing millions of men women and children and wild life
    all of those moments when eren showed emotions and cried were a vital esscence for building his character but then we come to last point he cried in which was ch139 and does he cry for the millions he is currently killing is he crying cuz he got sasha and potentially many killed for. him no he cried because he didn't want mikasa to find another man which was stupid as fuck

    Erens a great character and i truly sympathize with him , but i also cant say hes doing something wrong since i know what happens and whats gonna happen in the future (manga) but i still think he could have ended the line of titans without massacring 80 percent i honestly think the writting slipped up the ending really fucks up characters . All i hope is the anime should do an anime only ending that could truly save erens character

    Great content thank you. But after reading the final chapter I can’t help but thinking that Eren was a slave to Ymir rather than freedom I mean Ymir wanted to see if someone can kill someone whom they are in love with in order to save humanity, therefore freeing herself from obeying king Fritz’s last order. That’s just my opinion.

    I think the biggest thing is the protection of his people and friends … I feel like if eren is as able to just die and save everyone it would’ve happen . His actions are backed by , “ if I don’t do this my people will die “ not just the wanting of “freedom”
