- After having PPF for the past month, I'm now thinking about getting ceramic coating. What is the difference with Ceramic Coating and Paint Protection Film? In this video Kevin breaks down those differences and talks about determining which one if for you.

FANTASTIC INFORMATION & MOST HELPFUL when considering!!!
This is a very informative video. As a professional detailer this video explains a lot of common questions about Ceramic Coating and PPF that I get from inquiries and customers.
Thanks for uploading this video.👍
That means a lot coming from a pro
My car has ceramic coating right now can i do pff over it?
This was a fantastic video. I’ve been wanting a solid description on both the differences of these and this was excellent.
The fact that he clarified WHAT ORDER; ppf THEN coating. I would have thought that was the other way around.
@@cainsolo1 of course, applying ppf (doesn't have sun protection), on top of a sun protection layer, makes no sense at all
Great quality content!
Very informative!
Your PPF guy is very knowledgeable!
Another well done video!
Thanks mark
@@TeslaoftheDay Top tier info
I had Elite Finish install full PPF and window tint on my 2022 Tesla Model Y Performance. Amazing shop. Amazing results. No hesitation to recommend this shop for install. Well worth the investment. Top quality all the way around. Kevin is fantastic to work with.
How much did you pay for full PPF and tint?
How much was it?
@@aqua123456q Some place by me charges 6400.00 for a full PPF
@@logical_lb3059 6400.00 is the price quoted by a local shop
If you guys have expensive car worth 100k or more and keeping for a long time do full car or you want that matte finish. Besides that just do the full front and the rest ceramic coating. People these days change cars every 3 years.
Probably better to get ppf on the hood and front bumper which are more prone to rock chips, and ceramic coat the rest of the vehicle.
Ive had my car ceramic coated and it definitely makes a difference. It’s almost like a fresh coat of wax, a glossy shine that just looks excellent. But, ive noticed that the paint gets chipped noticeably easier with highway driving, and thats why id recommend the ppf for the hood.
I’d get ppf over ceramic all day if I could only do one. You really do get both with ppf.
@@TeslaoftheDay What if you have a car w like 5K miles on it and I got a couple of chips, literally most ppl could not find them. Car guys yes, the average joe, no. I put it off due to the expense but now I can afford it. The car is rare, and it will only ever get driven for the sake of driving it. I may wanna take it on a trip to DRIVE it so I want or need the protection. What happens, or how do you handle pre existing chips? I know its done as ppl get all kinds of cars covered but just curious.
Thanks
Currently getting 3M PPF installed on the front end of my GX 550. Once complete, off to get the WHOLE suv ceramic coated.
Thanks for the video!
It says super easy to clean off. However, it wasn't the case on 4:50. The water did grab on the towel at all.
Great vid. I got my raptor ceramic coated day 1, but didn't get PPF. Huge mistake. i'm literally getting hood touched up tomorrow and PPF installed next week. Ceramic is awesome though. Dark color and maintaining it is so easy and worth the money
Ppf has hydrophobic. Making it super easy to clean and it protect against rocks.
Why not just get hood repainted or repaired if it gets lots of chips. Ppf is hard to install well, needs to be replaced over time which means you have to pay to have it removed and then pay again for reapplication?
I have full PPF wrap & added ceramic coat on our 2018 lrm3 and 2020 lrmy. No regrets…we would have so many dings from rocks on the sides and front without it. Unfortunately when driving my brand new 2018 lrm3 back home from picking up the car in Fremont, CA….I got 2 small chips in my front bumper from rocks on the highway. Those are the only two Chips on my car!!
Same I only have one chip and it was a couple days before getting my ppf. So pissed. 😆
Very helpful video. I had a lot of the same questions that you had. Now, everything my professional was telling me today makes more sense.
Awesome man. Ya I had lots of questions so I wanted to make a clear video explaining.
it's called a swamp cooler, they have been around since the 60's-- makes your room cooler but add ungodly amount of humidity
When you say you wipe down your car every other day, what do you do? What's your process of wiping it down? Do you give it a full wash?
Hi, if I have a white car, can I change it to satin black with ppf? Is there a satin black colored ppf? Nice vid, I followed!
You can just buy ceramic coating from your local auto part store. Spray it on wipe it off. Don’t need a shop to do it and charge a crazy price. Ppf is different and this should be professionally installed.
What’s the price of full ppf on your car
I love your tints. what kind is that and what percentage?
Doesnt ceramic coating on ppf destroy the self-healing capabilities of ppf?
Outstanding video! Waco, Texas is in the middle of the Solar Eclipse. If you come to Waco, I'll pay for your flights and the cost of the PPF if you will put it on my Tesla Model X.
If you go with both C.C. and PPF will the healing properties in the PPF be effected by the C.C. and it's UV protection as far as healing proyworks?
Ceramic coatings enhance the healing properties and UV protection but it’s honestly overkill. PPF is sufficient, no real need for ceramic over the top unless you don’t wash your car for months on end.
Even then, ceramic coatings require special car wash shampoos, have to be boosted every 6-12 months, etc.
Great video. I had a question. He said there was no sun protection but there websites says it has UV protection. What’s the difference? Thanks for your help
What Ceramic coating would you recommend? Gtechniq or Ceramic Pro
So if we are to do both ceramic coating and ppf say on the front part of the car, do we:
1) put the coating on the paint, then put the ppf, and then put another coating on the ppf?
OR
2) put the ppf, and then apply coating on the ppf?
Ppf first then ceramic coat on top
What kind of prep do you need to do before adding ceramic coating on top of a matte ppf
I park my car in my Apartment complex’s garage. It’s bird poop city. Sounds like ceramic’s a good choice. That said, it’s an apartment garage… I don’t have a hose or a place to wash. Is ceramic + a touch free car wash an option, or does ceramic “require” more maintenance?
Ceramic would help for sure for bird poop
I thought paint correction is not required if you’re putting on PPF since the result will look exactly the same with or without. Can you advise the benefits of paint correction prior to PPF install?
To properly prep the surface so the PPF adheres properly.
Ppf will adhere either way.
You want to paint correct first because the ppf will lock in the current condition of the paint when applied.
Imagine having a bunch of paint swirls and scratches from a car wash...if you ppf over that, then the pff is protecting the swirls and damage. Those won't be able to be buffed out since they're under the ppf
My 2014 Mustang is currently being painted and I'm going to attempt to put ppf on the hood and front bumper myself. I think the labor cost is too high.
How did it go doing it yourself? Was it hard at all?
Can you put PPF on a car that has decals/stickers? If you remove the PPF, is there a risk of removing the sticker as well?
First I have ever heard about ceramic adding thickness.
Hello . Brand new to tesla here . Do I really have ppf or ceramic coat a tesla ? I’ve owned multiple luxury vehicles and never did any of these treatments and they seemed to last fine . In your honest recommendation do I need any of these treatments? Also can I use a normal car wash for a tesla ? Thanks v much
It's hard to say. It's personal preference.
If you have the funds do the entire car in ppf and then ceramic coat it.
So you can do paint protection film and ceramic coating over the top of that?
yes
What’s recommended to be applied first if you choose both? And does it matter?
Ppf first.
what is better? PPF first then ceramic coating? or the other way around?
Great video and great information to know. Thanks. 👍🏻
I had PPF and Cermanic on my Model Y 2022, and it is very easy to clean the car.
How much?
@@Gthemenace-TV For PFF - 4800 Euros and for Ceramic - 1100 euros
@@ravibrussels Would have been cheaper to have the car repainted several years later wouldn't it?
@@AchillesWrath1 nice point
Are you layering the actual paint with cermaic coating, adding the PPF and layering the ceramic on top of the PPF.
How many layers of ceramic?
PPF first, then ceramic on top of the PPF
Does PPF offer hail protection?
Do you use Carpro Skin as PPF coating?
I'll do both on mine but won't be at one shot. PPF first and appointment for Coating later.
Def ppf. The pff has hydrophobic which makes wiping things off super easy. Ceramic doesn’t have the same protection against rocks.
Just dropped it off at the shop today. Cannot wait to pick it up. Full car PPF.@@TeslaoftheDay
Your car is the gray metallic right
yes
Great information.
Question: does ceramic coating always have a gloss finish?
We are considering a matt vinyl wrap (but probably PPF now 😊), so if we then add the ceramic coating, will that change the matt to gloss? Thanks in advance.
It's an invisible layer so I don't believe it would change much.
@@TeslaoftheDay Thank you! 😊
@@TeslaoftheDaymy car was wrapped ppf can I add the ceramic coat on the ppf? Any changes?
@@MrDuylongdangyes you can
What about ceramic coating on the car glass and headlights?
I got ppf on the headlight and tail lights.
Hi dear kindly suggest me what should I go for PFF or nano ceramic?
If I had to pick one, PPF for sure
Would you recomend that
i get my colorado zr2 full ppf since i will be overlanding a lot???
Ceramic already on a new car. Just learnt about PPF. Is it too late to add PPF? It’s a German car.
Never too late, but if your paint is damage, you would want to fix it first before ppf. If not then you’re just wrapping in the existing paint chips.
I just got a graphene coat and over that can I go for ppf . Is it ideal?
@Teslafortheday, is it better to do the Ceramic coating as the final step after Protective Film? Or, do you do the Ceramic both before, and after any Protective Coating? I want to tint my car windows too but I'm not sure if I do this on top of or under coatings and films. I'd like to touch up the fading on the black areas around the outside of my windows. Is there anything I can do to restore the look of that? Thank you!
So I just want to do partial PPF for my model X to save money. Aside from the front bumper, where else should I get the PPF? Rear bumper or side panels?
Hood and front fenders. Complete front end
If I want to have PPF and ceramic coating, does the ceramic go first and then the PPF over it. Or is it PPF first then ceramic over the PPF?
PPF first then ceramic coating.
PPF has no sun protection?? Correct me if I’m wrong all the new modern PPF have uv protection
Possibly new new ppf might. But most ppf is just a shield. Then the ceramic adds the extra UC protection.
What does the ppf cost and what does the ceramic cost?

Just a nerd adjustment: 1MM = 1/1000th of a meter, not an inch. Incredibly informative video.
My Nerdiness now - He said 1 Mil, NOT 1mm...and 1 Mil = 1/1000th of an inch :)
Didn't say anything about the windows. Would you put the ceramic on the windows too? Wouldn't that act like a more permanent solution than applying RainX? How often does a ceramic coating need to be reapplied?
I ceramic coated my Tesla and had ppf installed on the front. I purchased a hydrophobic glass sealant that has lasted for three years so far. I use rainx on my other vehicles though. I decided not to apply ceramic coating to my windows.
I have XPEL PPF on my 2022 MX. Is that a good film? I also have ceramic coating as well.
Yes that’s a very popular ppf too
One of the best products on the market.
Is that a custom color Tesla?
No factory gray
where did you get your mudguards??
Video on my channel. Link in that video description
Any idea why car manufacturers don't included PPF or Ceramic coating as standard to all their vehicles?
They'd be added costs that not everyone would like.
As someone who’s just learning about all this stuff, this video was very helpful! Thanks for info
Glad it was helpful!
Can you put on ceramic or PPF on top of the vinyl wrap?
Yes
I'm getting full body Dynoshield on my Model Y plus ceramic on the rims as I type. $5,750 all in.
Awesome!!
That is really a lot of money to spend for paint protection. I think at that point it is cheaper to leave it alone and repaint if any damage occurs.
@james brotha can you send me the shops name
Does this void a lease? What happens if done on a leased vehicle?
Does ceramic prevent yellowing of clear ppf? How long can you keep ppf on a car and what happens if you leave it on longer than recommended?
The newer films of today doesn’t yellow. That was film of 5 years ago.
I did front ppf and all around ceramic for $1800.
Wanted all around ppf but it was $4000.
Both work great
Sounds right
thats not bad. Here in Virigina/DC area its $5500-8000 for a full PPF.
jeez that's a steal....i'm getting quotes of 2900 for full front, A-pillars and rocker panels in my area plus another 600-2k depending on ceramic coating level
Do you put ceramic coating under PPF?
Ceramic goes over ppf
Just wanna ask one question??? The detailing garage here asked me to firstly get ceramic coating and then apply ppf ??? So is it better to first get ceramic coating then ppf ??? Or ppf first than ceramic pls help me brother????
PPF first, then you ceramic on top of the PPF
WTF to the side mirror 2:57
Great video, thanks for this information.
Very helpful and informative; thank you!
would you recommend full ppf or front ppf + ceramic coating entire car?
At least front
Great video and very informative.
Thank you!
Let's say you’re doing the whole car, wouldn't it make more sense to do ceramic coating first, on your factory paint, and then put PPF on it instead of the other way around?
I thought the same, but you need to have the paint prepped and residue free before adhering ppf to it.
Would be nice to know, and show your level of transparency for your viewers, if you were to break down the the costs associated with your ppf and ceramic coating. As a side note, I fully realize that it depends on the vehicle and materials/work done... that's a given. I am asking about your situation specifically. If you choose to not be transparent then it would be appreciated if you just said you don't want to say rather than trying to refer me (or anyone else) to the vendor for that information. Thanks!
Sounds good I’ll add that info on my next video
I would love to add a PPF for my next rs3 but also I think that 2-3k is a lot of money :/ I was wondering if the full front is ok, or that you can see the lines/difference where there is PPF and where is not. Thanks a lot
Full front is really good to get. Depending on how good of an installer you use, you shouldnt see lines.
Will ceramic coating help from damaging swirl marks?
The shops usually correct or fix the swirl marks prior PPF application.
wait. ceramic ON TOP of ppf??
How much is the Full PPF wrapped?
And how much does the coating cost?
I have the MYP 2022 and have been quoted 4600 euro…
Is it cheaper to wax your car every month for 5 years or pay once for ceramic coating?
I’d rather do ppf.
So if I ceramic coat - PPF - ceramic coat, service regularly and detail interior regularly... then no serious depreciation in value for the vehicle. If I'm spending six figures on a car, it's NOT getting sold because NOW its a family heirloom!
you just need to ppf and then ceramic on top of the PPF. Vehicles will depreciate unless its a rare type of car. PPF and ceramic just helps protect and preserve the paint over time.
@@TeslaoftheDay I used to sell cars, I can tell you exactly when your car starts to depreciate and how much it will. Let me put it another way, PPF/ceramic a leased car, when the lease is up you're creating a problem for the dealer because the paint is in better condition, meaning the dealership owes YOU!
Did you end up getting full ppf? Or are you going to stick with just the front? Asking because I jusy picked up my model y
I got full

thank you, god bless ✌🏽
Both always
looks awesome
if Tesla offers PPF from the Tesla factory, I'll gladly pay and extra $10,000 for it. (assuming that Tesla includes dent/scratch protection if the PPF fails to protect)
you can just get your car repainted if you want to spend $10,000.
if ceramic coating done after PPF or before ?

why has ppf become so popular with teslas
Www hat was mentioned as the best brand for PPF
I got both, these 2 options are both different

Good video and all but after watching I am favoring good ol wax of some sort. These protections are for those who want to hand wash their cars alot and never go to a car wash. I have too many dirty birds around.

Thanks!
I'm getting my car wrapped right now and I'm going to be pretty honest here
If you can't afford to do PPF and ceramic coating at the same time. Don't do it! Save your money then do it
Stek Dyno PPF + ceramic coating = 10 year warranty = 🔥
It's easier to take car or with ppf. I've ppfd my truck and ceramic and it's easy to wash. Just don't take it to a car wash
Wait… this isn’t a drone review! Good seeing you on other channel!
Lol you found me
The hydrophobic angle is such a scam. I've never seen car paint or car metal absorb water. Car paint is a hydrophobic coating. Just a scam like filling up your tires with nitrogen when the atmosphere is already mostly nitrogen. Every generation gets suckered into something new.
i do the paint correction and ceramic coating myself. I installed ppf in a few areas of my Tesla but it was not perfect. I paid a shop to applt the ppf to the front of my Tesla. I added a ceramic coating over the ppf and it is easier to clean bug splats off.
You are misinformed.
For solid materials, hydrophobic or hydrophilic don’t mean it could absorb water or not. It means if this materials could form bonds with water molecules. If a solid materials is hydrophilic and water attend to spread across and maximize contact with it, you can see it is easy to form a thin film. That is how we judge if testing glassware is clean or not. On the contrary, water will form small drops on hydrophobic materials surface.
You gotta read more. Stop watchin youtube 😂
