    This song was written after they fired Tarja and the backlash that ensued. It was particularly rough on Tuomas who composed and wrote the lyrics. This song is about his depression and suicidal thoughts during that time. He will often cut the vocals out of his in-ears when they perform this. The song was away of killing himself without actually doing it.
    Marco has been singing/playing since the 80s starting with his band Tarot. He's a a very underrated vocalist in my opinion. Try the Islander live at Tampere or High Hopes from End of and Era for more Marco goodness.

      @@theophany1770 it was a huge mess but the gist of it is at one point she told them she would only do one more album but no touring to support it. She started focusing on her solo career and a huge rift was created. All the other members decided it was time and fired her with an open letter. Tuomas got the brunt of the media and fan backlash. Everyone envolved now agrees it could have been handled better and that is why you will see a lot of contention with NW fans.

"Bye, Bye Beautiful" is about Tarja, and "Master, Passion, Greed" is a song about the future husband of Tarja. Tuomas got his payback!

    • @Nikioko
      @Nikioko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tuomas had to make the hardest decision of his lifetime: kicking his old schoolmate out of the band or disbanding the band. He decided that without Tarja the band has an uncertain future but with her it has no future at all. It really hurted his heart to make this decision and when it was made and he felt really miserable about it, he got so much hatred as a reaction. That situation can destroy anyone. And despite what happened he still likes Tarja and hopes that their relationship will be alright again one day.

      @@Nikioko I read that she was constantly threatening to quit and start her solo career. I guess he just got tired of hearing it.

    • @Nikioko
      @Nikioko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesanderson5268 The situation was a bit more complicated. Solo career yes, but "constantly threatening" no. The plan when she was to leave the band for her solo career was fix, so there was enough time for looking for replacements, no need to kick her early. The problem was that there were tensions because of her husband who had too much bad influence on her. Maybe you should read Tuomas' open letter that describes the situation quite well.

    Want to be on a boat with these guys?
    Can be done: "Yours is an empty hope" live, the official video to the song is from a performance they did on the Baltic Princess Cruise liner.
    Its a heavy song where Marco Hietala, the base player, does the clean vocals and Floor does the deep growling parts.
    Quite something different, but highly enjoyable.

But they left the movie business since it was so much work. Kai Hahto, the drummer might not be human at all. If you want to see him at his limits, check out Wintersun - Sons Of The Winter And Stars (live rehearsal) You should react to that song, it has quite a few different vocals. Each pieces of music he writes come from a story he have in his head and he want tell with music. He said himself, in his head, he have a kind a soundtrack for a story, and write on it until he found the perfect sound, the perfect note.. An example of that, the last album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, come the book of the same name of Richard Dawkins and all the album tell the story of life.

    Boy soprano (treble) in the first part, plus the spoken part is by a boy soprano (I used to be one a zillion years ago so I know the sound). In the original version with Anette Olsen, the "Sparkle my scenario" was also sung by a boy soprano. Floor is now doing that part and she's singing lightly, imitating the boy soprano sound as best as a woman can do.

    I think the "vocal coaches" should remove the word reaction. Of all what I have seen they talk / criticize talking during the middle of the video, so they do not listen to a good part. That is, they speak on top of the singer. Anyway, thanks for the video.

    midi files used for the choral and orchestral stuff..the band plays the rest and floor sings as much as she can ,part in the middle when floor sings really high was a choirboy on the studio version

      @bigg2988 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it was Annette on the lead in the studio version... her voice was just too fragile for change-ups like that, I suppose. Same tendency can be found in numerous "Imaginaerum" songs, where Floor live just takes over in the spots you had choirs fill on the studio recording. One clear instance to compare - "Storytime".

    Talking about boats... Their song Yours is an empty hope Live was performed on cruise ship. (they had full concert there, but the best version live for that song is from that concert)

    Lot of emotional weight in this song, different kind of "heavy" song for sure! Thank you for tackling this 14 minute beast :) My favourite performance by Marco (bass player) is 'The Islander' (live at Tampere). Very nice Jethro Tull-ish campfire-folk-song in front of 20 000 people. Just Marco and quitar. Your suggestion list gotta be quite long, but... maybe in future!

    The thing is that floor can handle full on grunting throughout an entire song and after that go back to the clean vocals without effort.

    its the soundtrack to part of the songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas' life. i find that looking up the story then watching it again with the lyric version on can almost bring one to tears, the lyric version is probably best for a first watch as the song has 5 parts and the title of each part comes up for example the last part is called mother and father and tells the story of Tuomas going home in his misery and his parents explaining that hardship will always come (the blade will keep on descending) but that he should focus on his gift ( you have oceans within) and the good he can do (try to save them all) remembering always that they love him (in the end i will always love you) its well worth another listen with the lyrics and knowledge of the story especially knowing now all is well with him

    They could make a movie from this song :D
    There is documentary of that time when they was on tour with second singer and in the middle of tour they had to find other singer... and Floor start to work with them. So there was talking about how hard for musicians: "playing a live rock'n'roll gig can be compared to hard manual labor. The guitarist and vocalist use enough energy to dig a foxhole. Playing bass matches a meat carver's job. The drummer could as well chop wood, lay bricks."

    Great comment about being on the boat with them. Peaople actually in the past had that chance to hear them on a boat. And you actually might to react to one of the songst they filmed there.
    Yours is an Empty Hope - live on Nightwish Cruise on Baltic Princess. Oh yes, you may hear Floor's harsh vocals on that one.
    And for more Marco's vocals - clean this time - The Islander live in Tampere
    Cheers :)

    This is a soundtrack for the keyboardist's metaphorical suicide. That's basically how he describes the song. He was deeply depressed after firing the first singer and a childhood friend from the band, but he couldn't commit a suicide in real life, so he has done it in a song.
