Hi Frank My 950 ‚05 started chain rattle at 40‘000 km‘s… good tip with using the rag and 6 mm Allen key to get tensioner out…. although mine came out real easy. I did the removal and installation of tensioners WITHOUT removing airbox with carbs or loosening and shifting oil tank. I just used L type Allen key with round head and shifting to get proper power on the Allen key. 10 minute job. Went real easy.
Hi Franck, thanks for this comprehensive tutorial !! I have 2 questions for you: 1) many people doing this operation are opening the motor to check that the timing remains "ok". it seems that you don't. are they any risks? 2) looking at KTM workshop handbook, they do not pump oil in the new CCT, is it mandatory and does the CCT needs to be poped -out after being installed using either the KTM tool or an allen key (seen on another tutorial where they open the motor and check everything (chain tension, timing and valve clearance) ? thanks . Julien
Hi Julien, this is merely from my own experience, as long as you don't mess with cranking the motor with the CCT out, i never had any issues, if someone had any different results whilst changing the CCT and timing jumped a teeth without rotating the engine, please let us know. One thing i would like to mention, if you have a rattly noise continuously, even after changing both CCT, i would assume your bike has 60000 or close to km on it already, it might be a good time to replace both timing chains and guides, and check shims on valves.Hope it helps :) .They certainly are maintenance hungry beasts.
Hey Franck, I finally did it following your tutorial except for "oil pumping" prior to installation. straight out of the box inside the cylinders. I used a little pliers to remove the tensioner (checked the distance as per the manual, 9mm, Gr8). it went like a charm. a little rattle sound just after ignition and that's all. I stil hear some ratteling sound BUT, i still hear some ratteling sound on the left side (a bit less, just tried 10 min)... investigation will continue !!!
@@barzsu90 Hi Julien, if your engine has close to 60000km on, please check shims and possibly guides, not sure on the mileage of your engine, thanks .Frank
Interesting. Thanks for review. Will have this task for checks on future work list. P.s. When took off fuel injection part under the air box - it's good idea to check cooling pipe what's came between both cylinders. After good amount of time - this pipe looses its natural strength and can blow. Its good to change it after some time (like 50k km).
Hi Frank Great easy to follow instructions I’ve just brought a 990 adventure but it’s started to rattle on start up but goes away after 10 seconds or so and suspect Cam Chain Tensioners We’re you having this problem and that’s why you changed them ? Thanks Wayne
Pleasure,i might relocate to Ireland soon, see you around there possibly 😉. I am planning a comprehensive video this month that deals with all known and preventative issues on 950 and 990's
Merci !
@@FranksWay much appreciated anyway. This video has hopefully led me to the right fix. The Cam chains started making a lot of noise after an oil change, it turns out there was water in the oil so I did the water pump change but the terrible cam chain noise is still present. I recently had to flush out my motor oil on my 08 superduke 990, oil had turned to milky lattè cream, both chain tensioners are fairly new (1500 miles) should i remove them both to squeeze/pump out the old lattè oil that may have been left inside the tensioners..?
Thanks Frank for the clear video! My tensioner jussed popped out so i did not have to use a cloth like you do. When I want to put him back in, it is sticking out for like one centimeter. Do you know what is happening? Thanks!
@@ClaeysPieter1 I was able to install mine in uncompressed mode.it should simply slide in and tighten up, did you rotate the engine with tensioner out?

Hi Frank, my 950 from 03 and 42000km on clock. It has begin with blinking oil flash and after it begins to vee too much warm that i should turn of for engine cuz the fan didn't start. After clicking noise was more noisy. Water pump is changed for 7.000km ago. I checked oil filter etc there was no sign of water. I see its loose a bit from top cap gasget on rear cylinder. Other Places look to bee fine but inside i don't no. I have never see how to do this test you say about.

yes,with valves rocking...lobes facing downward.
I don't want to pull my valve covers. And other way to do it?

Great video, thanks. I’ll give it a go on my bike.
Thanks Sagar.
Surprised you have the std factory air cleaner setup still
Hi, in my own opinion, i think that the STD air filter is the best to have, opinions differ.
Factory air filter = very restrictive. ITG or Rottweiler are much better, and eliminate the entire airbox ! @@FranksWay
