I've said it before but I can't say it enough... I really enjoy your companion made videos, your DNFs, reviews and all the varied content topics you release. And the frequency of your content. I kind of think of you as the MTV news of BookTube 🤣🤣😃😉👏👏👏😍 And I often get great perspectives from your discussions and deep dives. I also love how many recs you've turned me on to. You're top shelf, Elle .... Thanks so much for sharing and doing what you do, because I'm sure the filming and editing alone are very time consuming. ❤️
Now thanks to this video I’m obsessed with Lackey and the Valdemar world! lol. I just finished #2 of the arrows trilogy and now I need to read all 19 of this world. Oy! Thanks for this.. I think. lol
I recommend the Steelflower series by Lilith Saintcrow! It’s an adult fantasy series that features a female sword-and- sorcery style lead as she tries to navigate a big twist in her life. I enjoyed the slower pacing of the first book and think it helped create a very immersive world and characters.
Thank you Elle for the work you do. Your first recommend I acted on was The Witch's Heart and it is still one of my favorite reads of the year and also inspired me to start my Bookstagram. Genevieve is now an auto-buy author for me after reading The Weaver and The Witch Queen. I could not have started my journey into reading fantasy without your great recommendations since our tastes seem to align!
As a new author, I find this kind of commentary very influential. Thanks to your commentary I was able to finish my ebook. I wasn't sure where to go, but you mentioning what the audience actually wants helped me greatly. Thank you!
I really enjoyed The Thorn Remains. I feel that her day to day tasks where so important to her moving through so much. I wasn't sure about it when I finished it but looking back, I really enjoyed it.
Just found your channel. I've been looking for more books with male characters as the main character in the book and was happy to see that you recommend several. Will check them out. I have Spinning Silver on my tbr pile. Thanks for the recommendations. Subbed.
I´d be interested what you think of "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" by Tad Williams, which in my opinion fit the "slow-paced adult fantasy"- genre quiet well too. And also because now about 30 years after they were written, the threads of the story, which also has progressed about 30 years, are picked up again in the authors "The Last King of Osten Ard" cycle.
She has so much there is bound to be something for any one and any taste. I absolutely loved the Serrated Edge Series, urban fantasy before it really was a thing. Definitely a different vibe than Valdemar. Got cozy romance with her hundred kingdoms stuff. Steampunk urban fantasy with the Fire Rose/elemental series.
One of the slowest series I've ever read but one that I think was worth it was Otherland by Tad Williams. I haven't read anything else written by Williams but apparently, all his books are like that
I’m so excited to finally getting around to reading The Weaver and The Witch Queen this winter. I recommend The Witch’s Heart to EVERYONE but I understand that the slow pace in the beginning and writing style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Motherhood was also a huge theme in it and I don’t see many people mention that too often.
That video could not have any worse timing it did. For 2024, I already planned to do a wheel of time re-read and and to dive deeper into the Cosmere as well as to read Modesitt's Recluse saga and more of Guy Gavriel Kay's stuff , and now you just found at least three other rabbit holes for me to lose myself into. Anthony Ryan is one of my favorite authors these day, but there's still a substantial amount of books I need to read and also want to read the raven's shadow trilogy as well as draconis memoria. I also have read the Farseer trilogy a few years ago and you reminded me that I always wanted to read her other stuff as well. And last but not least, Mercedes Lackey might as well be my discovery of 24; I might have read one or two of her early books back in the day, but if I did , I can't remember at all. I just know that she's one of the big names I always wanted to dive into, but seeing how much she has written in the meantime makes this a quite terrifying prospect. I really need to find a way to just add your videos to my goodreads tbr list. :D
From your recommendation read the witches heart ❤️ and LOVED it!! I actually just got my ebook hold from the library for the Weaver and the witch king 👑 can’t wait to read! Love hearing your recommendations
Kaikeyi is often shown as a villan in the epic Ramayan in India, I'm glad the author shows her perspective in her novel. Women are often demonised for their progressiveness and I think its time we re-evaluate some ideas.
For me the whole Rook & Rose Trilogy (Mask of Mirrors, Liar's Knot, Labyrith's Heart) by M.A. Carrick fits this descritpion very well. Every book in the trilogy is extremely slowpaced because the focus is not the magic or some big threat that needs to be dealt with but instead it is all about the politics and character relationships. The whole trilogy takes place in only one city and over three books I learned loving the world and especially the characters and their different kind of relationships. But again, all this is only possible because of the slow pacing. Even the end of each book doesn't have some big explosion of pacing. And I love this trilogy for it.
I actually get put off if a fantasy book is too fast-paced lmao, I like to slowly meander through the world a little, get to know everything

Arrows trilogy is the first books I read by Mercedes Lackey I need to read the other books in the Valdemar universe.
I Love Mercedes Lackey. My fav series so far is the Oathblood series. The relationship between Kethry and Tarma is what I liked the most.
DNFed Spinning Silver too many POVs
I love Mercedes Lackey so much to I love the Last Herald-Mage Trilogy.
I also read that first Valdemar trilogy this year and I really fell in love with it. I just love Talia and loved following her story.
Same!
Now thanks to this video I’m obsessed with Lackey and the Valdemar world! lol. I just finished #2 of the arrows trilogy and now I need to read all 19 of this world. Oy! Thanks for this.. I think. lol

Juliett Marillier is slow paced but amazing
I was about to comment to recommend her books. I love the Blackthorn & Grim trilogy and plan on starting the Seven waters series soon.
I love Juliet Marillier's books.

Lackey is great! They are my go to "cozy" books.
Spinning Silver was a incredible reading!
I loved it alot! It made me read Uprooted from the same author and it was a great read too
I really enjoyed The Thorn Remains. I feel that her day to day tasks where so important to her moving through so much. I wasn't sure about it when I finished it but looking back, I really enjoyed it.

those books are amazing !!!!
If wanting to check out more Mercedes Lackey - should check out ‘The Last Herald Mage’ trilogy next

I’ve read all but the thorn remains! I would recommend hands of the emperor and the dandelion dynasty!
Blood Song and Tower Lord are two of the best ever Fantasy books. The Pariah was OK, but the trilogy falls short.
One of the slowest series I've ever read but one that I think was worth it was Otherland by Tad Williams. I haven't read anything else written by Williams but apparently, all his books are like that
It is fantastic!! Such an homage to reading and fictional worlds!
i loved that series, it is great !
I read The Witches Heart and I loved it! I bought Weaver and the Witch Queen and can’t wait to read it 😁

I just love Spellslinger and Traitor's Blade series by Sebastien de Castell, but I never see anyone talk about them. Check them out for sure!

The weaver and the witch queen sounds interesting!
Can you read Blood song as a standalone
what is DNF?
I had the same question… pretty sure DNF stands for ‘Did Not Finish’. At least that’s what slang dictionary said, and it makes sense in context.
I try to recommend The Realm of The Elderlings to anyone suffering from insomnia. They'll be asleep in minutes.
Blood Song was amazing! The rest of the Trilogy....not so much. Got back on track with the Duology though....went back to single pov
Tower Lord was even better. Raven’s Shadow was amazing.
@@terryj33 not for me....had trouble finishing it.....dnf'd the last book

Fitz is imo one of the best characters in fictions as in best developed but I don't really like him that much tho I also don't dislike him

You should try R. Scott Bakker's "Prince of Nothing" series. That's adult fantasy!
lol.
I think A Song of Ice and Fire books are too slow for my taste. Like nothing happens until the last few hundred pages.
Malazan.
I need to know how all of your books are the same height 😅
I am reading warbreaker right now. And I think that it is so slow moving but i've heard such good things about it, and I dont want to dnf it 😢
