I’m right there with you! Maybe we can hope for the sequel next year making the list (even though the list doesn’t determine anything, it’s still fun to see!) 🤎
I was actually pretty surprised that only one of Sanderson's secret projects was nominated. While I've only read two of them, I thought there would be at least 2 nominated since it's Sanderson.
Bonesmith and Godkiller seem completely my jam, I'll check them out. Thanks for the recommendations! The set-up of City of Nightmares reminds me of Fireforce in a way, seems interesting too.
I really enjoy your recommendations. Godkiller is also a favorite this year. Will try the others in 2024, all sound interesting. Kelly Barnhill also wrote the middle school book The Girl Who Drank the Moon, the audiobook is very good. Thanks for the videos!
I didn't expect it to be on the list because of the popularity contest aspect of Goodreads, but Unraveller by Frances Hardinge is one of my top reads this year. She blends weird and dark fantasy with a lot of heart, and I think the theme of this one was so on point for this year.
Honestly this might be unpopular but I wish there was a best novella category. It’s just hard for me to compare a full length books to novellas and I feel like novellas don’t win as much for that reason
I was really sad that Godkiller was not mentioned... I liked it a lot! Thanks to your recommendation I bought it during my London trip this year 😊 Can't await the sequel ❤
I loved the characters in Bonesmith. What a fun read! Also really enjoyed God Killer and The Magician’s Daughter. I read these three based on your recommendation! Thanks!
I’m with you, The Weaver and the Witch Queen should absolutely have been there. Clytemnestra was one of my top three reads of the year but I was shocked to see it on the list. It hasn’t been talked about despite being amazing.
City of Nightmares sounds really interesting. But now I can't help but think of what it would look like if I were in that world and turned into my fear (Deep space, it's irrational I know). It makes me wonder how that would manifest.
Can you do a video of old series reviews? I can see in the shelf behind you that you have the Legend Series of books but I went thru your whole channel and could not find a review about it 😢and I was wanting to pick that one up soon cuz it looks interesting!
The Goodreads 'Best Books' sadly is just a usually suspects list. I lost faith in it a few years ago, stopped nominating and stopped voting. THIS list however, sounds really interesting. The Weaver and the Witch Queen, especially, sounds awesome!
I read and absolutely loved Godkiller thanks to you but I was so disappointed that it wasn’t on GR nominees. Well GR choice awards aren’t genuinely accurate 🤷♀️
I now have joined the crowd of folks who wonder how the nominees are chosen. I would have thought it had something to do with the reader score. But you discuss a number of books that don;t just have scores above 3.5, they're above 4, I also looked at the publshers to see if they had a history of not getting along with Amazon and could have been left off for spite. No, that's not it either. This was great that you did this. Now I need someone to volunteer to do this for science fiction. It was a really disappointing category this year.
An author popularity can swing even a less well received book into the running , review # are the same (Godkiller has similar numbers to Witch King with higher total star rating). It also seems that fantasy and sci-fi get one token book for debut. And since Ink, Blood, Sister, Scribe was one of the few fantasy BOTM picks it blew Godkiller out for total ratings and probably other interactions.
@@ebnovelsI ended up giving it 3 stars. I loved the concept I just didn't feel super connected to the characters and the plot. I may still read the sequel though!
I was surprised by the good reads nominees and shocked with some of the winners in certain categories. I’m going to read some that I haven’t read before to test the water. But some of the books I have read I didn’t like.
Magician's Daughter is very good, but l wouldn't call it cozy. It's very atmospheric but has this underlying tension, and some dark/disturbing elements that come in. A kinda gothic feel rather.
I read Godkiller based on your recommendation (though it was originally the cover that made me want to read it so it was just a bonus that it also sounded interesting) and I was so surprised at how small the copy was. It was just a tiny little paperback with tiny text and British spellings which all made it feel much much older. It made me really excited to eventually read the Witcher series too. I’ve only seen the third game so I had enough context to realize how similar Kissen and Geralt are towards Inara and Ciri. Even the way Kissen talked to Legs was similar to Geralt and Roach. Very excited for the sequel and will definitely be putting in a purchase request at the library when the time comes 🩷
I was so sorry for Godkiller. I read it cause of you and it's my favorite book of 70 l read this year.❤
I’m right there with you! Maybe we can hope for the sequel next year making the list (even though the list doesn’t determine anything, it’s still fun to see!) 🤎
I loved City of Nightmares. And yes! Godkiller was amazing. I was a little sad Amina Al Sarafi didn’t even make it that high up on the votes.
Godkiller was sooooo good!!
I bought Bonesmith because you talked about it so much and i feel like I’m really gonna like it!!! Can’t wait to get to it
I hope you do! The beginning is a little been there done that, but it gets so fun once it gets going! 💚
I was also expecting Godkiller to be nominated. Such a good book!
I absolutely loved Godkiller! It's such a good story. I'm infatuated by the characters. Can't wait for the next book!
I was actually pretty surprised that only one of Sanderson's secret projects was nominated. While I've only read two of them, I thought there would be at least 2 nominated since it's Sanderson.
I also loved City of Nightmares, and probably picked it up based on your rec. 🤩
we can't have godkiller, we have to make space for enough greek myths retellings
I agree so much. Wouldn't it be cool if they'd expanded their list?❤
Edit: Godkiller deserves ALL the love. The sequel is almost here.🥰❤
And Godkiller was amazing! I 💯 think it should have been on the list.
Just preordered Bonesmith in paperback, so now I just have to wait until August 2024 to get it 😶 …😁
Bonesmith and Godkiller seem completely my jam, I'll check them out. Thanks for the recommendations!
The set-up of City of Nightmares reminds me of Fireforce in a way, seems interesting too.
I just ordered The Crane Husband from your links, and I'm going to begin Engines of Empire on Kindle. Thanks for the great recs this morning!
Ah, wow, those two are so different from one another 😄 Both great though-I hope you enjoy them!
I really enjoy your recommendations. Godkiller is also a favorite this year. Will try the others in 2024, all sound interesting. Kelly Barnhill also wrote the middle school book The Girl Who Drank the Moon, the audiobook is very good. Thanks for the videos!

Agree, she never gets enough love!
Love her!
I have The Magicians Daughter on my tbr, I need to get to it
Omg yes Engines of Chaos!! Such a fantastic series, I can't wait for the next book
Bonesmith, The Magicians Daughter and Amina were my favorites ❤❤❤
I picked up Bonesmith from my library today! Can’t wait to read it!!! Also, very excited to see it’s a Canadian author 😊
And Godkiller!! Yes, 5 stars for me as well. I hoped to see it as a Debut.
I loved City of Nightmares so much! I just got Cage of Dreams and I can't wait to read it.
You’re 100%dead on with Bonesmith. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Haha, yay! Happy to see that 😄
Popularity contest is exactly what it is. Literally every book with the most reviews wins.
Honestly this might be unpopular but I wish there was a best novella category. It’s just hard for me to compare a full length books to novellas and I feel like novellas don’t win as much for that reason
I loved both Engines of Empire and Engines of Chaos! You are the only reason I heard of the series so thanks 😊
Might have missed a cutoff as it was late in the year, but I really enjoyed Jim Butcher's return to the Cinder Spires with The Olympian Affair
I read the first one so long ago that I always forget about that one 😮
@ebnovels yeah, I had to re-read the 1st it came out so long ago
I didn't know there was another book out. Thank you ❤
And *City of Nightmares* went straight to my TBR. Thanks!
I knew you were gonna say Bone Smith! I really enjoyed it too. Looking forward to the next.
I was really sad that Godkiller was not mentioned... I liked it a lot! Thanks to your recommendation I bought it during my London trip this year 😊 Can't await the sequel ❤
I'm currently reading Godkiller. Thanks for the rec, I'm enjoying it.
Godkiller was one of my favorite reads of the year. I was so disappointed it wasn’t on the list.
I loved the characters in Bonesmith. What a fun read! Also really enjoyed God Killer and The Magician’s Daughter. I read these three based on your recommendation! Thanks!

I just started Engines of Empire today, because you recced me into it! :)
I grabbed city of nightmares based on the comparison of it to strange the dreamer. Looooved strange.
I ordered Bone Smith from your recommendation. Godkiller is on my TBR this month and I preorder the second book already.
I can’t wait to read Godkiller. It’s next on my list. Atalanta was stunning. That was my vote in the first round. I highly recommend.
I’ll definitely have to give that one a go! I’ve seen it at my local library branch, so fingers crossed I can get to it eventually 😆
I was surprised by City of Nightmares. It felt different, which I really appreciated.
All of these books sound so good!! Going to add these to my list!!
City of Nightmares sounds really interesting.
But now I can't help but think of what it would look like if I were in that world and turned into my fear (Deep space, it's irrational I know). It makes me wonder how that would manifest.

I own both Engines of Empire and Engines of Chaos and... I still need to (and want to!) read them.
I read and absolutely loved Godkiller thanks to you but I was so disappointed that it wasn’t on GR nominees. Well GR choice awards aren’t genuinely accurate 🤷♀️

I'm reading Godkiller now! I haven't gotten suuuuper into it yet but I'm still early in it
I hope you end up enjoying it! The sequel comes out soon 😄
@@ebnovelsI ended up giving it 3 stars. I loved the concept I just didn't feel super connected to the characters and the plot. I may still read the sequel though!
I thought Tyrrany of Faith would be there. 😢
I was surprised by the good reads nominees and shocked with some of the winners in certain categories. I’m going to read some that I haven’t read before to test the water. But some of the books I have read I didn’t like.
Blood Over Bright Haven by M. L. Wang! Would have won if looking for best fantasy and not the most popular
Im surprised Yumi wasnt on there!
Ok engines of chaos om my tbr
I was confused why Godkiller didn’t make it but some of the Greek retellings did & swordcatcher made it like?????
Magician's Daughter is very good, but l wouldn't call it cozy. It's very atmospheric but has this underlying tension, and some dark/disturbing elements that come in. A kinda gothic feel rather.
Let me guess: the daughter in _The Magician's Daughter_ is named Miranda.
Haha, um, no. I think I don’t know what you’re referencing though 🙈
Totally off the mark
@@ebnovels You don't know? Or do know?
@@OkamiRose O brave new world, that has such people in it!
Huh l never thought of the Tempest.... l guess there is the whole island thing, but the stories are very different
I enjoyed GODKILLER but I thought it just read as a generic quest story.
🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm on blood of elves and I've really loved the series so far
