    I can believe it... there are thumbs down for this terrific video??? 3:48 that is the explanation that helps me to become a much better player. Hands ahead and the correct follow through. That's phenomenal in order to understand the best way you could have to compress the ball. And no flipping anymore... once again many thanks for sharing Shawn Clement regards from Switzerland Greg.

    I sometimes go to one of your competitors on youtube and he uses a palm grip on left hand and finger grip on the right, Hogan like on right to subdue the right overpowering the swing (side spins hooks and pushes etc. That works for me. But your set up with the slight weight on front foot at address flat out brings the big swing together with lots of power. I dropped 10 strokes with that set up.

    Excellent video. The fact one cannot take a divot with too loose a grip is fundamental and I've never seen it explained before. Thank you for mentioning it. All the others, instructors included who advocate holding the club as softly as possible are off the mark. I played competitive tennis and if one isn't holding a racket firmly, when returning a fast ball, the racket tends to move back slightly at impact, instead of firmly and directly through which greatly diminishes the return. It's the same with any sport that uses a club, a bat, a racket or any tool in order to hit a ball. Thanks again, great video. I have a hard time taking divots and now I understand why.

  • @royrubin7259
    @royrubin7259 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I keep coming back to this video. I now have your grip and set up. It took six months to understand it. But the big thing is cutting grass. That improves the swing beyond anything. The ball is a blur. Transforms your momentum forward towards target. One question? I understand ball then grass, but then you dig some dirt at the end of the divot. Is that right? I think shaving the grass may be enough and then up to target?

  • @jllaforce
    @jllaforce 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shawn, I have found a common swing flaw that can lead to hooks is the contact between the two hands coming apart at the top of the swing. Something I try to concentrate on is making sure my left thumb(right handed golfer) stays in contact with the pad of the right hand.

    Shawn, I came home after a round last week where I hit almost every iron, except the short ones, on the toe. I was so frustrated I went to the internet for help. Well, there was plenty of tips for toe hits, but on one of the side links, there was an article about the best driver tip ever. It was you explaining how to start with your feet together, then flaring the lead foot and then dropping the back foot back. However, when I went back to review it, I couldn't find it. Could you direct me to that video?
    Thanks

    hey Shawn. I found your swing helpful. trying to use it all the time but with the driver its not controlled. its always going to the right. the real problem i have is aliment. i line my self to the target or i think i do.
    but every divot i make is aiming 3 to 10 yrd left of the target and the ball goes right and and it goes left. my swing path is all over the place. driving me Nuts.
    is it my hands being to slow. or my chest and weight are ahead of my downswing.
    can you tell me what i need to do to create prefect timing.and swing path. PLEASE.

    As usual. Excellent instruction Shawn. I have a question about club swing weight... Does it make sense that a club with greater swing weight will enhance the feeling of gravity. Club makers are constantly designing drivers that are lighter and lighter in an effort to create more swing speed. At some point the weight of the club will "disappear" and consequently the effect gravity will have upon the club. Right?

    About grip pressure, I always assumed a light grip pressure was taught because what ever pressure you started with, it would increase in the back swing and even more in the down swing. I know mine does, even though I use a firm grip pressure to start and let it do what it wants throughout the swing. I also almost never take divots. Maybe I should start?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, since you have a firm grip pressure, you have the ingredients for taking some good divots! Just lower the structure more at address and predict the sole of club dragging along the ground beyond the ball when you let the weight of the club release you in the direction you want to start the ball...

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are hitting it fat because you are defaulting to the ball and sending the enegy of the swing into the ball instead of out to the target; you collect and release the ball to target or you cut through the dandelion stem towards the target (see grass whip shawn clement) and see "dynamic vs static shawn clement" part 1-2

  • @GboyginMan
    @GboyginMan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    isnt this technique called the stack-n-tilt?

    • @WisdominGolfPremium
      @WisdominGolfPremium 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although many methods have similarities, this is not stack and tilt. We use the anatomy and the brain (this video is the proof) the way it was meant to be used which is with the use of analogies that youre brain can recognize and then bring into golf. Then we allow you to continue to evolve into the feel of what the golf swing brings and remove any short circuits that don't allow you to deliver to your target. Stack and tilt has a few good nuggets but can bog you down with a lot of body part thinking and positions to hit and uses the body improperly in many aspects.
      Many scientific bodies have come out with research in the last 15 years on how we learn motor skills and body part thinking was the worst way by far to achieve the goals.

    My biggest issue/question is the release and when it happens. Appears from your video you show it as hitting through the ball, versus in some other videos you present it is far after you hit the ball and part of the follow through. So which is it, and please be consistent.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Past the ball always; in the direction you want to start the ball; my message is the most consistent out there by far; through the ball means past the ball; AT THE BALL MEANS AT THE BALL.

    • @77777771955
      @77777771955 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WOW, would never expect a reply so quickly. That's what I understood from your other videos, but needed clarification when I saw what appeared to be your wrists folding over through the ball. I used to be pretty good golfer, but have been falling back after 2 hip replacements. Trying to get to somewhat was my old game. After using many You Tube Channels, believe in your philosophy more than the technical, position instruction, which I think gets too many people focused on positions and hitting the ball rather than focusing on target. Also am still amazed at Moe Norman's instruction. Please keep up the good work. Would also like to know your secret to the weight loss you have exhibited over the last several years. Look much more fit and am sure you are enjoying it.

    Shawn divots are an imaginary thing to me. I see and here about people doing it, but I every time I try I hit a divot behind the ball. So.i stop trying.

      This is our way of dealing with gravity as human beings on this planet; like a kid standing on a swing or a skate board, see "create speed shawn clement" and "throwing the club shawn clement" as well as "horse shoes and lassos shawn clement"

    Can you name your video something more realistic. I mean come on, Perfect contact everytime...Try Ben Hogan. I'm sure you video doesn't turn people into Ben Hogan

      Did you try it? When you perform this all the way through, your brain will come to the realization that it cannot miss the ball; try to get past the title and give it a try!

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I switched the title to PREDICT contact every time; contact is not a make sure proposition, it is something that you can predict when you are about to deliver on a specific task; that of feeling a nice release or throw of energy to the target where the sole of the club (the grass cutting part) zips through the turf and a bit of ground in front of the ball...

      +Shawn Clement That's pretty sweet you changed the name of your video. I really do enjoy your teaching. What's your opinion on getting back to being a more feel oriented player as opposed to thinking about mechanics and positions? I think its turned into a really poor habit of mine.

    Such an ugly swing. But gets the job done.

      What parts of the swing make it look ugly to you?

    To much stuff to remember. The more I have to think about during the swing the more tension develops and effortless becomes a thing of the past. Keep it simple.

    this is SOOO incorrect about the grip. fred couples' right hand practically came off the club at impact it was so soft, yet he took divots and bombed it. c'mon shawn you can do better than this.

      You teach 80 people a week every week for 20 years straight and then come back and tell me this. When I speak to you, there is a stadium full of people and their feedback speaking through me, far, far away from being just me!
