I hope I'm not the only one who noticed Jake (purposely) messing up the title of the game all throughout the video. Was really funny all throughout, gave me a good laugh lmao
Tiny Tina narrating the dlc in BL2 was great, and from what it sounds like this is more of that. LOVE the terrible humour (couldn’t help laugh at ‘Buttsville’), so it’s good to hear/see they’re sticking to it. A shame the menus are still a bit of a mess, but I’ll take that over game-breaking bugs, and it seems like there aren’t any. Definitely will pick this up once I’m caught up on other BL stuff.
Honestly, I'm on chapter 7 on my PS4 and it's incredible. Wonderlands is super fun, they did such a great job of combining an absolutely insane DND campaign with Borderlands. It's honestly just a ton of fun, and it's absolutely everything a video game should be. Also it runs VERY well on PS4, which is a relief because Borderlands 3 ran like crap on PS4 with insanely long load times.
I’m also a casual border lands fan. I absolutely loved the first and second game but never finished the pre sequel or Border Lands 3. I was kind of hoping this release would get me back into the game because I love the vibe and scenery. Every border lands game is amazing but you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. At least I’m my opinion.
I agree. I really liked the scenery in BL2 and I loved the Assault on Dragon Keep story, side missions, and scenery also. And I liked how you could play it after you beat it and it was colorful outside.
@@ilikestuff9250 Yeah I really don’t know why I never finished it. I have 0 complaints about BL3 or the pre sequel I just wasn’t motivated to beat them I guess. It’s an adventure for another day lol.
This game had me curious because I'm a huge fan of the Tina DLC and her character so to have that as its own standalone definitely sounds like a great change to the Borderlands formula.
I bought borderlands 1 on day 1 and have played every game since then. The 3rd game was one of the biggest Let downs for me. Hope this brings life back into borderlands. I also hope matchmaking for multiplayer is fixed. In 3 it was completely broken.
@@demoflow yeah i had some of the most fun with 3 since all the guns even the not so great ones you get along the way were all fun to shoot and test out instead of being annoying or really bad in one regard. Am excited for this one to finish downloading !

This definitely seems like a game that I would consider getting in the future, never personally loved the borderlands games, just not my thing thing but this one looks interesting.
You know if this is successful, the create your own class mechanic and combine it with another it might carry over to Borderlands 4. Just imagine a Gunzerker Siren.
I like how they incorporate the overworld rpg style encounters. Really unique concept to combine with a first person shooter. A cool way to attract pure rpg enthusiasts to play this.
I hate it. It’s a slog. You walk so slow on the over world and still have to run back and forth doing fetch quests, and random enemy encountered interrupt dialogue, and a loading screen for every encoutner
You can melee and prevent the encounter. To the other guy, getting the 4 relics in the second area gives a walk speed boost. But yeah…I’m not a fan of the arena-style fights.
@@TrueGamer22887 Theres a shrine that buffs walking speed early on and you don't need to walk in the grass. If you dont want to do the encounter just hit melee and they go away.

Before You Buy is the goat of reviews for me. I already pre-ordered the game a couple days ago but I still had to watch your take of course. Thank you guys for the great content!
It's good to hear they've got a decent cast and that the villain is done pretty well. You had mentioned that the writing in Borderlands is pretty polarizing, but I'd disagree, simply because I (and I think every other Borderlands fan) loved the banter, jokes, and narration and overall writing in BL2, and I mention the villain specifically, because I believe Handsome Jack was the driving factor behind the success in that regard. However, BL3 fell short tremendously in that department and I think the key difference was the main villain - but I could be wrong, as there could have been changes to the writers that I just didn't pay attention to.
I think they took the reception of jack and tried to do something funnier, however it got away for a lot of people, I liked the idea of “streamers” it just was a little to dedicated to that and cringy, that and how the path Troy seemed to be taking just fell off but overall the base of the actual story I was intrigued by
They definitely had different writers for BL2 and BL3.... in Borderlands 2, Anthony Burch was the lead writer for the main game and all the DLC; he is also the brother of Ashly Burch (Tiny Tina) and his style of writing was great for BL2... Then after the release of BL2 he got a job as a writer for a Hulu show and left to do that. Anthony Burch was also the lead writer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (which was okay) and that was the last game he wrote for Gearbox He then went on to write Tales From The Borderlands, which is a Telltale game and he did a great job with that. If you haven't played it, I would definitely recommend it if you like story driven games. So BL2 and BL3 had polar opposite writing styles and there was apparently some complaints about the jokes Anthony Burch made in BL2, so for BL3 Gearbox didn't give the writers nearly as much creative freedom, which was a HUGE mistake. Gearbox should've continued with Anthony's style of writing because they took a huge step back when they tried appeasing the sensitive snowflakes that didn't like some of the jokes from BL2.
Im a die hard borderlands fan but yes the villain was shocking in bl3 but the writing style in general just felt outdated now. At the time it was perfect for borderlands 2 and still is but with new games it feels like they’re just trying to recreate decade old humour which just doesnt work no where as well as it did
@@ashleythegamer8552 I don't think you can blame the 'sensitive snowflakes' for this one - I'm a liberal and a huge Borderlands fan and there was nothing in the slightest offensive in BL2. I honestly don't think that can be the reason the writing style changed, there's nothing to complain about it that game, even for the most sensitive people. I mean, can you give a single example of an offensive thing that was said? I can't. BL2 and BTPS were also written by a pretty liberal team of writers as well, with plenty of LGBT characters (e.g. Sir Hammerlock, Athena, etc) and strong female characters. Why would liberals write a game that was offensive to liberals? The change in writing style was probably just the result of having a new head writer (i.e. the same reason most changes of creative direction happen).
This review is spot on with my experience so far. Everything I wished for from the tiny Tina one shot and a whole lot more, love how they really leaned into the rpg game style, I am having a great time playing terry tata’s.
I recently finished playing through Birderlands 2 for the first time, got through TVHM and finished all the 4 main dlcs afterwards, with Dragon keep being my and it appears a lot of people's favorites. I was holding judgment on if I'd get Wonderworlds, but the character creator feeling like almost actually making a dnd character has sold me on trying it out in the future!
Play bl3 imo. Just replayed all three and wonderlands was the worst by far. 35 hours and bored in wonderlands and 140 and bored in bl3 (nearly maxed in both). Wonderlands is only good if you have 0 borderlands content tbh. The best gun in the game drops easy as fuck (seordsplosion) and will carry you until mayhem 50. So lame.
In general times of games, the rating of 8/10 is a high rating, but on ps5 I have nothing to play, so the game is strong 9 or even 10 out of 10 in FPS genre.
If you are a Borderlands fan, this is a must buy. Im still low level (14) but having a blast. They definitely lowered the legendary drop rate (at least for low levels) and that to me is a huge Pro. Getting a low level legendary ruins the progression of the game, so it feels so much better in this game. im constantly swapping out spells and weapons to try something new because its a little better. reminds me more of BL1, which is my favorite BL game out of them all, but with all the great QoL things BL3 added and then some.
Dont reccomend it, if you have barely played it BL is all about end-game and I dont see anything here that makes we want to buy it and I`m a huge fan of BL, BL3 wasnt even that good and it looked way better than this
@@toprap88 it's blasphemy I know, but I don't play Borderlands end game. I just play the campaign. Get all the trophies, get to max level and I stop. Once I have no skills to unlock or content to play, I'm done. Redoing content to grind out loot, which makes the damage numbers bigger but doesn't really change gameplay at all (unlock unlocking new skills) isn't really my jam. That said I stopped playing a few days ago. Got to level 21 I think but I just binged BL3 not long ago and I'm burnt out. I'm not a huge fan of the classes either. Unlocked my second but it did nothing to excite me. I think Wonderlands is a great game. And I'll definitely go back. But right now it stopped clicking.
I know nothing about borderlands, and this does look fun. I wonder if not having any previous acquaintance with borderlands might lessen the games experience or not.
when critics say "it didnt like, blow me away or anything" i tend to wind up getting pretty blown away. but i also dont play hundreds of new releases every year, maybe just a half dozen or so (and a ton of old ones) so im probably more prone to being blown away than someone who has really seen it all done it all.
I think when they say that they’re talking about how it’s Borderlands but with new locations and quests. The devs didn’t try to reinvent the wheel. They didn’t do anything interesting with the guns, only swap grenades for spells.
@@steveelia9693 its still fun as hell though, after the Borderlands 3 nerf fiesta from its launch and steady population drop thanks to their "great" decisions, this feels better. I haven't been disappointed with the borderlands series. Not once with any of their games even the Tall Tale one. There's very little game series these days that I pre order without a second thought and no regret. Wonderlands is a masterpiece.
I've been a fan of the series since the first. My favorite is also 2, but I had loads of fun with every game. The story and dialog get a lot of hate, which I can understand. We're about 2 hours away of this game's release,(PS4) and I'm looking forward to sinking 100+ hours into it like I've done with the previous titles. My only regret is that I'll have to put my first playthrough of Elden Ring on hold for this. Have fun everyone.
I just now finally got around to playing this. I have all the borderlands games in my collection but I've never played them, this game is pretty cool so far
Biggest gripes from 3 were: Obvious horrible writing Hated the sactuary being a confusing floating ship. I was rank op 10 and still had trouble getting around that place. The Hud was terrible and is extremely laggy, I’m so surprised it was never patched to be more tolerable, knowing that the game throws so much loot at you, you’d be opening it a lot it was miserable Thankfully, these have seemed to have all been fixed and I’m so happy about it, I took a risk preordering and not watching reviews to formulate my own opinion and I just gotta say if you are a borderlands fan definitely pick this one up. Definitely getting this one. Thanks Jake!
I only recently played Borderlands 2 and I really enjoyed the unique aestetics of the game and the overall chaotic, over-the-top crazy humor. This game where they seem to be putting all of that in a fantasy/D&D setting is something I'm really looking forward to
personally i disagree with the melee critic, we should be more than happy to even get a full auto melee and the options in weapons we have for melee, a specific melee skill would be a huge plus but considering the previous borderland games didnt have ANYTHING interesting about melee (IMO) i think this is a huge deal! im happy with how melee is now
I’m really hoping for more in depth videos from you guys, like how to navigate what weapon works for you, or things the game doesn’t tell you. I’m new to the series and loving the game but man I have a lot to learn
@@jaydondixon1741 I absolutely loved the game, start to finish I had a great time and did every side quest, end game is fun as well, I play less now and I will say DLC sucked, but can’t recommend the game enough
I had problems with disconnecting from SHIFT servers past 1-2 weeks. In BL3 and in This one. The overworld part really helps giving the feeling of playing a table top game. I love Tiny Tina, her craziness works so well with fantasy. BL3 story, villains and dialogue just felt a bit forced to me, this feels more natural. Also happy they included the sliding and climbing from BL3, good additions to the series. Character creation is good, also if you click between the left and right arrows in character creation, you do get up a thumbnail preview of all the options. I haven't finished this game yet, but I am really enjoying it so far.
Looking forward to this, the Tina dlc to 2 was its best content. What I'd really like to see as a quality of life improvement is the ability to mark your favourite weapon so it stands out if its ever in a loot drop.
I'm excited to play it I bought a disk cuz we're out of internet and I'm unable to progress without an update which is upsetting. But all and all I do like it but all game companies need to release games that are playable out the box. Just saying 😂
I used to be a big borderlands fan but after BL3 I’ll never buy one on launch. They just don’t seem to understand that farming is 90% of the reason people play and never have named enemies respawn off launch.
i usually find you guys at gameranx to be spot on with 99% of games. i 100% agreed with this take. as a HC fan of bl, bl3 was SUCH a letdown overall. but tiny tina didn't disappoint. VERY different from the previous games BUT the same enough to make me sink like over 30 hours on it in the first 2 days
Basically they took the best elements from past borderlands and put it into one game, the comedy is amazing as always gameplay is smooth and entertaining, and the new skills/spells are awesome. Been playing since launch and I can 100% vouch that if you like borderlands you will like this game 10/10 recommend!
@@BootinMySnake yes! The game is much shorter than the other borderlands and quite buggy, however the gameplay is amazing, the introduction of spells and melee weapons is awesome. It’s overall an amazing addition to the borderlands universe.
Okay, so I didn’t really like Borderlands 2 that much because it felt like I was given maybe TOO MUCH stuff to do and the running back and forth to do quests felt a bit mindless (I don’t like running around a big open world without an in depth fast travel system, it just stalls time between actual interesting gameplay moments). I love the humor of the Borderlands series though, and I think the gun play is pretty good. I’m also a big D&D guy, which is what caught my interest with this game to begin with. (I did try out Assault on Dragon Keep when Playstation+ offered it, but ran into the same world and quest framework problems.) Does TT’s Wonderland change enough about Borderlands to address my issues, or if I didn’t like Borderlands 2, should I pass on this?
Though one. So in bl3 they brought a new fast travel system in, you can travel anywhere from wherever you are as longs as you already hit a point in the location you wanna fast travel to. And wonderlands uses it as well. This gives a bit more freedom unlike in bl2 where you always need to run to a station then travel to a zone do your thing run back to a station and repeat, but I wouldn't really call that in depth so you gotta decide if this sounds good enough for you.
This game is pretty good. When you beat the game you can change your subclass. I've been having a lot of fun testing out different builds. I also appreciate that vending machines have good items now.
This is such a fun game I'm hooked. Played 2 chars to lvk 27 ( one solo one coop) and I can't explain how great it is and such a breath if fresh air considering many games are so boring nowadays
Great video! Thanks for mentioning the bugs and glitches. I’ve been looking forward to this game and seeing gameplay has me psyched. I’m going to wait for patches to release first though. The new interface and graphics are all so polished and look great.
Tiny Tina's writers and the voice actor are amazing! By far the best comedy in a game. I've played through Dragon Keep hundred or so times and still laugh at it.
I really can't say how much I appreciate y'all's lack of cynicism when it comes to games. I feel like there are a lot of people who try and have 'hot takes' and look for what they can dislike about a game and focus on that. You (and Falcon) just appreciate all of this for what it is. Have been looking forward to this one for a long time as I love the Borderlands series, but lean more toward the Fantasy aesthetic. I WANTED a rehash of BL3, and many reviewers have been complaining how that's all this was. But like.... Isn't that the point? Just bought, gonna start playing today, and thanks again for calling a duck a duck and then treating it like a duck. Hats off to you.
The combat was amazing but that's about it. The reason I was dragging near the end is because of the terrible story in that game. Cringiest writing i've ever seen in a video game
If you liked the Bl2 DlC of dragon keep then you most certainly will enjoy this game. The guns are interesting as well as the builds. Story isn't too bad either, at least so far of what I've gone through. The menu is a bit of a mess but you'll get over it. Overall it's been a fun experience.

Also it runs VERY well on PS4, which is a relief because Borderlands 3 ran like crap on PS4 with insanely long load times.
Not for me, kept crashing every 5 min
Who is here after ps plus extra announcement
I’m also a casual border lands fan. I absolutely loved the first and second game but never finished the pre sequel or Border Lands 3. I was kind of hoping this release would get me back into the game because I love the vibe and scenery. Every border lands game is amazing but you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. At least I’m my opinion.
I agree. I really liked the scenery in BL2 and I loved the Assault on Dragon Keep story, side missions, and scenery also. And I liked how you could play it after you beat it and it was colorful outside.
Pre sequel is my favorite of the borderlands. 3 is hit or miss for some folks but I'd still give it a shot
Pre Sequel is actually pretty damn good

This game had me curious because I'm a huge fan of the Tina DLC and her character so to have that as its own standalone definitely sounds like a great change to the Borderlands formula.
I bought borderlands 1 on day 1 and have played every game since then. The 3rd game was one of the biggest Let downs for me. Hope this brings life back into borderlands. I also hope matchmaking for multiplayer is fixed. In 3 it was completely broken.

I'm very confused how nobody is mentioning BL2 Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep. That was one of the best DLC's for BL2.
Literally yes my favorite dlc and honestly one of my favorite parts of BL2
Great for farming as well
Who isn't mentioning it?
8 mean this game is that but a full game
"I know!"
The combat encounters get super repetitive after you gotta go thru it the 90th time
You can melee and prevent the encounter.
@@bksparkyy Thats literally all dungeons though, theyre all optional if you don't want to do the encounters dont walk in grass or melee the pop up guy when they show up.

Anthony Burch was also the lead writer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (which was okay) and that was the last game he wrote for Gearbox
He then went on to write Tales From The Borderlands, which is a Telltale game and he did a great job with that.
I think the gameplay was solid but the villians whole thing was a let down and made me care less about the story in bl3
So lame.
3:56 did he say "totinos" 😂
I was literally looking for this review an hour ago and now it’s here! Thank you 🙏
Interesting concept, honestly not what i thought it was, but might give it a try. I agree, tho, BL2 still the goat of the series
I still play BL 2 to this day
For me it's the pre sequel
I was in the same boat about BL3, loved the gameplay but it absolutely felt like the story was phoned in. Stilll very much looking forward to this one
Felt like it was geared more and more toward multiplayer as well I felt left out of a lot of stuff being solo. Hoping that this is better.
Story really felt like Randy's personal vendetta against streamers
Every story in Borderlands is phoned in. People only like BL2 because Jack was cool. Which I dont disagree with but the BL2 story sucked too
tbf the story is probably one of the less important things in a borderlands game

I know nothing about borderlands, and this does look fun. I wonder if not having any previous acquaintance with borderlands might lessen the games experience or not.

The game is unbelivebly good. I cant get enough of the gameplay. Just wish of more of these games to be made
I've been a fan of the series since the first. My favorite is also 2, but I had loads of fun with every game. The story and dialog get a lot of hate, which I can understand. But I love the series for the gameplay. Go around shooting and killing lots of enemies, while finding new gear to try out.

Biggest gripes from 3 were:
Obvious horrible writing
Hated the sactuary being a confusing floating ship. I was rank op 10 and still had trouble getting around that place.
The Hud was terrible and is extremely laggy, I’m so surprised it was never patched to be more tolerable, knowing that the game throws so much loot at you, you’d be opening it a lot it was miserable
Thankfully, these have seemed to have all been fixed and I’m so happy about it, I took a risk preordering and not watching reviews to formulate my own opinion and I just gotta say if you are a borderlands fan definitely pick this one up.
Edit: Theres this extreeeemely frustrating glitch where your quest log won’t load and have no way to change it unless you do the main quest or find a side quest icon.

@@BootinMySnake yes! The game is much shorter than the other borderlands and quite buggy, however the gameplay is amazing, the introduction of spells and melee weapons is awesome. It’s overall an amazing addition to the borderlands universe.
The fact that none of these reviews mention that Chris Sabat aka VEGETA is one of the selectable voices for your character, is upsetting
(I did try out Assault on Dragon Keep when Playstation+ offered it, but ran into the same world and quest framework problems.)
Does TT’s Wonderland change enough about Borderlands to address my issues, or if I didn’t like Borderlands 2, should I pass on this?

Tiny Tina's writers and the voice actor are amazing! By far the best comedy in a game. I've played through Dragon Keep hundred or so times and still laugh at it.
Heavily disagree, she can get very annoying cause it comes across as trying to hard to be zany and weird.

I was overwhelmed by BL3. By the end I was dragging myself to the finish just for hell of it.
Same I hated how there wasn't character dlc too because I didn't like any of the characters skills
The combat was amazing but that's about it. The reason I was dragging near the end is because of the terrible story in that game. Cringiest writing i've ever seen in a video game
I didn't really like any of the BL3 classes.
The story is the worst part. Gameplay was addicting especially Zane going fast. Dlc were decent.
The story was crap, definitely a step back from 1 and 2 shit even the pre sequel.
