Grab the microphone, let the band fly and sing your heart out. OMG what a concept. Linda had pipes of glory and she didn't bathe in her own reflection.
7:10 Waddy starts his solo. 7:55 his guitar strap falls off, he puts his leg up on the stage to support the weight of his guitar, Linda has no clue what's going on, her back is towards him, finally at 8:30 the bass player walks across the stage and tells Linda that Waddy needs a little help, Linda puts down her tambourine and fixes the strap for him while he's still in his solo, never missing a note... at 9:20 his solo is over and Linda gives him a big smile then turns and starts singing again... at 9:24 she tosses her tambourine down and goes back into being the hottest female singer on the planet.
Queen of her Scene. Feminine and strong. I believed almost everything Linda wrapped those pipes around. Sang her lovin' heart out and let her bandmates shine. How rare...sigh.

@@trevormiles5852 yes. If you look closely at the "Different Drum" album cover, that is Henley & Frey. I saw the Eagles' second gig in Boulder CO, that band turned over pretty fast in their search for "perfect sound".

Truly a voice for generations. I am 66. I remember buying Linda's What's New for my Dad. He was a music fan but had no time for "modern music". When he saw the LP he said "I think someone's playing a joke." I told him trust me, just listen. He did. He loved it. My dad had good taste in music. I inherited it from him.
I loved the way she finally turned around and sees Waddy's guitar strap hanging and puts her tambourine down and reconnects it for him. That is just cool to me.
@@jarrellmckeithen7343 you got that right... waddy still plays and gigs his own group. hes carried many a band for the last 40 plus years. this lineup was especially sweet. music like this cant be duplicated today.
I agree what made this gesture so cool is the ease with which she did it. It was like whoops my band mates guistar strap has come loos and in front of thousands of fan she merely walked over and fixed there was nothing odd or awkward about it. It showed just how comfortable with one another, and their fans these people were. Among many artist now days they would have stopped the show while an equipment manager fixed it. Since so many performers are just lip syncing these days it would have screwed every thing up.
This was my first concert ever. My sister took me. Me and her are in the audience of this video. Cannot believe I found this. I was hooked on concerts after this.
No ‘Autotune’ here folks. Just pure vocal talent . While she may never perform again, she can be proud of a life of professionalism and accomplishment. God bless Linda for all the great fun times she brought to this guy during his lifetime.
Saw Linda around 1982 or so, unbelievable beauty, talent, voice, performer, band. Never be another Linda Ronstadt, true female trailblazer. Miss you, Linda, tragic that you lost that remarkable voice.
When you see what passes for female singers these days, i.e. Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and compare them to Linda it's obviously she has it all over them. She can just stand in front of mic with a great backup bad and vocals and knock any song out of the park. No flashing lights, no electronic manipulation of the voice, no techno gee whiz effects. Just a gorgeous woman belting out a song.
I've seen Linda live twice and it was stupendous. But I'm given to understand that this concert was something special from word of mouth and interviews. There are three shows I would have made a deal with the Devil to see. The Band's Last Waltz concert at Wintergarden in San Francisco; Queen doing Live Aid at Wembley; And this gem. I did get to see Bob Seger when he was doing the recorded concert for Live Bullet in Detroit and that was awesome.
Can't believe how we used to just take this sort of music for granted at the time. It's so true that you never truly realize the value of something until you no longer have it.
Ahhh...but we still do have it sir. It's right HERE on the inter-tube, it's in our record collections, and it is indelibly imprinted on our very molecules. We have been steeped in this music for years and years and it will never, ever go away. Its energy is all over the world and inside our souls.
Never ever took it for granted paid and paid for anything I loved if I could. From Bob Seger to John Farnham if it was good I paid. It was my duty and still is. You tube listening is a conumdrum for me though as my son just purchased for my birthday remote head phones connected to my computer he brought me for the birthday before that. Now I can bop to Linda et al around the kitchen when cooking drinking and bopping. Oh I said that already. Oh well you get the picture I hope.
When she was read hot from 1975-1980 she was definitely recognized. She was on the cover of RS 5 times during that time period. Radio stations advertised that they played her music in heavy rotation. And she had several number one albums. But what happened is that she switched from country rock and pop to all kinds of different genres. And she lost her looks. She was forgotten by the cool kids and the critics who wanted purity from their sex rock queens.
~~ she was recognized - she has 11 Grammy awards and various others to prove it - but from a fan & critical perspective she was not easy to categorize - early in her career a country music publication wrote of her; "Rock people thought she was too gentle, folk people thought she was too pop, and pop people didn't quite understand where she was at - but Country people really loved Linda" - and she kept on blending different types of music & influences later on in her career - so she really defied being packaged into any one genre box ..
Linda Ronstadt was recognized but music went to Hip Hop and only Country singers have been heard since the the 90s. She also got a lot of recognition being in the Trio with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton.
03:04 What a powerful voice...never be another like her. I was lucky enough to see about a half-dozen of her shows during this period...clearly the top of her career. I feel sorry for the younger generation that never got to see Linda live...Perry, Beyonce, Cyrus, Gaga just don't and never will measure up.
I fortunately was able to see her once but much later in her career, and the whole show was Mariachi music, which I love....but the voice was starting to fade sadly from the Parkinsons by that time....she hit all the notes, but it certainly wasnt effortless like you see here.....
@@johnkasperek yes she is. Linda was truly amazing. I love good voice's. Singing. I prefer the talent from this generation, but, whitney, Mariah ( my favorite), Gaga, very very good.
@@jessicas6586 They are indeed, all great singers, what Ronstadt has over them is the sound of the voice itself. The sheer magnitude, power, resonance, and clarity, leaves all of the others in the dust. There was never an instrument like this before or since. Compare Carrie Underwood's tribute at Linda's rock HOF induction singing "Different Drum" and then listen to the original. Underwood sounds like a mosquito.
Amazing voice. Met her in 1975 at University of Baltimore on tour with pianist Michael Carradine when she was hanging on Gov Jerry Browns arm. Talked for a few minutes back stage (trailer kinda thing), block party at U of B. Nice lady (woman) Very receptive and gentle to speak with. To this day I still ador/admire
I am only one of a million young boys who grew up in the 70's totally in love with Linda. I know every song, can sing it, can feel it, can live it. I thank God I was born when I was. I got the best of our world!
If she isn't the greatest ever popular music singer then good luck convincing her fans like me that someone else is. And she could sing any genre to perfection. Simply amazing. Always with a top shelf backing ensemble. And a physical beauty as well. Such a package. Thank God we have many of her recordings to enjoy now that she is restricted singing wise.
@@jamesbarrick3403 just my opinion, nothing personal but PB is hardly on the same level as Ronstadt when it comes to singing. Benatar has a powerful delivery but as RKennedy said Linda Ronstadt sang many different genres/styles of music and each time it was like she studied only that genre, that she was born singing only that style. Correct me please if I'm wrong but I don't know of any Pat Benatar recordings outside of rock/pop.
@@rcanoli99 Yea you should do some research on PB. First off she is classically trained opera singer. That is her roots growing up in NYC. She married young and sang in a local band in VA folksy country I guess you could say. She split that scene and went back to NYC with a mission to do exactly what she did. Listen to her studio or live recordings you will hear her voice is amazing and she effortlessly belts out perfect pitch ranging 4-5 octaves. Vocally she does not take a back seat to anybody. If you prefer Linda's style that is fair. But look into more PB and I think you will be very impressed. They are on the same tier of female vocalists for sure, and they both have the receipts to show it. But let's be PERFECTLY HONEST here... the reason these two women are huge stars is because they were both gorgeous. You can go to any Baptist church on Sunday and find a few women that can sing so well... seriously a great voice is a dime a dozen and that is the truth. It takes a great mixture of song writing and marketability (that means sex appeal for women) and yes a great voice to become a huge star. Linda did not write any songs but that did not hold her back... she did sing great songs and showed good taste in doing so. Pat wrote with Neil Geraldo and they made a great team. But do not kid yourself if either of them were not so good looking you would have never heard of either of them. sex sells always has and always will.
@@jamesbarrick3403 Thanks for the PB info I woulda never guessed; never heard anything but her hits, when she was always bitchin at somebody lol. That girl musta had some rough times getting love. As far sex sells of course that's true. But don't kid yourself those church singers may have great voices - and a great voice is a dime a dozen - but to take a song and make it your own, to put it over as if it's your own, that sells more than the looks. Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday...were these gorgeous women? Not to me. But I could listen to either one all day. Sinatra is another - handsome sure but what made him great and a legend was the way he sang. His voice was good I don't know if it was great..but his phrasing was great, his delivery. Anyway thanks again for the Pat Benatar education I will def search for some of her other stuff.
Such an incredible beauty and MASSIVE talent!! This woman will forever be untouchable. Truth be told...it don't get much better than 1977 Linda Ronstadt! :)
Agreed with maybe a slight tweak - I'd go back a few months when Andrew Gold was still playing in her band. This group here is outstanding and if you never heard A. Gold and W. Wachtel going at it you wouldn't know you're missing anything. But that was always a highlight of her shows for me, those 2 trading and combining licks on the rockin' songs like TD and YNG, Heatwave, When Will I Be Loved etc.

Early 1980s, I saw her in concert shortly after she'd been on Broadway in the musical "The Pirates Of Penzance". You're talking about singing 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. In concert, her voice was unbelievable !! A full-throated, multi dimensional, rounded-out upper and lower vocal registers. Tremendous power, grinding her gears when the lyric called for it. All without pain, zero strain. That night, she was second to none. Needless to say, I saw her at the right time in the arc of her career. Unreal.
@@markg9253 Thank you for that post. To my regret, never saw her live-was just an oblivious teen/twenty-something who listened to her records and the car radio. But if I had had the wherewithal to buy a ticket and go see her, post-Penzance would've been the time I would've wanted to see her. She had gotten some voice training to deal with the demands of that role was at the top of her game. Appreciate your describing what I missed!
I saw on a documentary about her that Mick and Keith caught one of her shows. Afterwards, Mick told her she had enough ballads in her set, needed more rock and roll and was welcome to any of their songs.
In a performance world loaded with pretentious BS and branded fools - Ronstadt LIVE, from many moons ago, can still transform your darkest soul into something better. Rock on.

As close to perfection as anyone could get, the whole band was underappreciated for all the great music they made. Still to this day that group of guys made the best studio recordings and managed to help make Linda Ronstadt's music timeless.
Man did we have it made growing up in the 70s. The best in music, girls and cars. I can now grow old gracefully, comforted with those awesome memories.
What's amazing about Linda, among other things, is that she could do a cover of a song that was even better than the original. And when you are talking about The Rolling Stones, that is really saying something. I agree with the post below. I bet Mick and Keith loved this version.
I think it was kind of insulting to have Carrie Underwood screeching at Linda’s induction. One gets the impression that Carrie is very impressed with Carrie...can’t hold a candle to Linda Ronstadt whose versatility leaves today’s singers in the dust.
@@maurahobart8414 I think it was because she was the only person in the lineup who could at least hit the notes, although you are right...she didn’t do her justice. The height of her powers. What a freakin sterling powerful voice that young woman had. The fact you could she her heart in her eyes and her voice made her singing doubly impactful. Beauty--------Brains-----------Class------Heart-----------& that voice , OMG, that voice . -------------Linda, U R #1 with me, 4-ever, & ever. -----------------------------MJL, 74 y/o
I'm 68 years old and back in the day every woman wanted to be Linda, and every guy just wanted her...me included Lol!
I'm 69 and I still want her to this day.
she is and always will be the best female vocalist of our generation and future generations.
Socorro Godinez You have to check out an artist named Rachel Lampa. She sings gospel. Her and Linda Ronstadt are my two favorite vocalist. Check out Rachel Lampas acoustic version of Im Blessed. Oh yeah Waddy Watells slide was awesome. When i saw Linda Ronstadt Waddy Watell was her lead guitarist.
Agree. A genius at singing.
"Best singer" comments are opinions, but THIS is a fact (in my opinion!!)

Love that Waddy Wachtel guitar playing !
May the Lord Bless her and heal her. I love you Linda.
This is why I studied electronics, Just to hear her better. She has that that thing is hard for words to describe. She makes me happy when she sings.
I loved the way she finally turned around and sees Waddy's guitar strap hanging and puts her tambourine down and reconnects it for him. That is just cool to me.
He never missed a lick either....greatness
@@jarrellmckeithen7343 you got that right... waddy still plays and gigs his own group. hes carried many a band for the last 40 plus years. this lineup was especially sweet. music like this cant be duplicated today.
8 minutes 49 seconds in the video
I agree what made this gesture so cool is the ease with which she did it. It was like whoops my band mates guistar strap has come loos and in front of thousands of fan she merely walked over and fixed there was nothing odd or awkward about it. It showed just how comfortable with one another, and their fans these people were. Among many artist now days they would have stopped the show while an equipment manager fixed it. Since so many performers are just lip syncing these days it would have screwed every thing up.
@@goat2558 Cool, warm and connected to the musicians. No one else like Linda.
Man, she could sing. The microphone, the band and a world class lead singer. Linda was the bomb.
The way she complements them. Smashing!
Stunning in all respects!
World class band too. I mean, listen too them. Damn good live!
She could indeed and she worked hard at it..talent and hard work...hard to beat.
There are many great performers out there, but for me she was in a class all by herself!!!! Beautiful voice! Beautiful woman!
What is autotune?

Nothing on her voice. A really good singer singing.
Be c4
These new singers you mentioned - suck. Period. Compared to Linda - no contest at all...
Dave Knop k8 is you
Waddy's a hell of a guitar slinger.
@@jeannine2999 yes, but can she growl, Linda growls.
They're all prefab now-voices created in the studio.
At the absolute apex of her talents, Linda and her supertight band are truly astonishingly great here.
timkjazz my God she always had the best musicians backing her. Why? Because they wanted to play for and with the best.
You could not say better
Bonnie Chandler SO RIGHT Bonnie!
@@BonnChnd well said
And her super tight pants as well ;)
Damn, Waddy Wachtel gettin it in that solo! What a show to be at
I've seen Linda live twice and it was stupendous.
Loved her then , love her now. What a talent.
Goose bumps
This Atlanta 77 show needs to be formally released. Linda was electric - rock on -
Available on DVD from Stellar Productions/Maximum Sound, for $12.00. Good quality.
I agree. Should be remastered put on a CD
I bought it on Amazon for 12 bucks!
wow..yes...it's rocking..what a great group of musicians
77mbdeforest going to buy it right now! Thanks for the tip!
So bummed You tube would only allow me to give just one thumbs up. Linda was one of a kind❤️
A little joni in there
. I saw Laura nyro once in detroit , she killed .
still love linda after all these years
Thank you for the memories!
Magnificent.
She never got any of the recognition she deserved, for me she is easily one of the best female vocalist to ever sing!!!! I love Linda she is a icon.
2.5 million views - I'm not into numbers in that way so much, but that's recognized.
Perry, Beyonce, Cyrus, Gaga wouldn't make a pimple on Lady Linda's ass!
Lady Gaga is pretty good.
Man, it’s rare that someone can take one of my favorite songs and make it even better.
Amazing voice. Met her in 1975 at University of Baltimore on tour with pianist Michael Carradine when she was hanging on Gov Jerry Browns arm. Talked for a few minutes back stage (trailer kinda thing), block party at U of B. Nice lady (woman)
Very receptive and gentle to speak with. To this day I still ador/admire
I am only one of a million young boys who grew up in the 70's totally in love with Linda. I know every song, can sing it, can feel it, can live it. I thank God I was born when I was. I got the best of our world!
Amen my friend.....another young kid here!!
Pat Benetar was on the same level. They are the two best pop/rock singers over the last 50+ years.
Linda could sing anything!!
Such an incredible beauty and MASSIVE talent!! This woman will forever be untouchable. Truth be told...it don't get much better than 1977 Linda Ronstadt! :)
That’s the truth!
True
@@richardcranium5048 Pretty good band as well
Agreed with maybe a slight tweak - I'd go back a few months when Andrew Gold was still playing in her band. This group here is outstanding and if you never heard A. Gold and W. Wachtel going at it you wouldn't know you're missing anything. But that was always a highlight of her shows for me, those 2 trading and combining licks on the rockin' songs like TD and YNG, Heatwave, When Will I Be Loved etc.
she got sick, thats all what a cryin shame...

Linda Live. . .well here we are still listening.
With due respect to the stones she killed it
I saw on a documentary about her that Mick and Keith caught one of her shows. Afterwards, Mick told her she had enough ballads in her set, needed more rock and roll and was welcome to any of their songs.

Sheryl Crow was the only other hope and she still couldn’t do it. Emmilou, and Bonnie, while great, don’t have those kind of pipes and Stevie Nicks...love her but her contribution was so sad...she should have stopped singing before she released Belladonna even. Ruined that melodic distinctive voice years ago
Kissed her picture on my phone
Thanks

When your supporting band breaks off and becomes “The Eagles”....you know your special
DESPERADO.! Oh my what a talented singer.
“...you know your special” what?
Special education?
You know it!
or you say 'finally! now i can hire a GOOD band!"
Great story-lets hang out
The height of her powers. What a freakin sterling powerful voice that young woman had. The fact you could she her heart in her eyes and her voice made her singing doubly impactful. She hated being boxed into one genre of music and spread her talent around. She has never given herself any credit and never thought she was that good. Well, she was that good!
Bonnie Chandler And then some!!
Bonnie Chandler the best ever. Any genre, and song, nobody could match her.
No Bonnie she was Great!!!!!!
The beginning of a legend!!! So glad I have her recordings ❤😂❤
Can’t find the words for her other than wow, no one like her.🌺
Rock solid and a lead singer to die for. How special she was singing surrounded by her boyz.
