September 17, 1977 is an easy date to remember for me, because it was the day after I got out of the Army, and I saw Linda at the Greek Theater at UCal Berkley. It was, in a word, “stunning!” No dancers, no light show, no pyrotechnics, no extraneous BS distractions. Linda Ronstadt is one of the greatest singers that has lived in the past 100 years. Five straight platinum albums, which at the time, had never been done by a female vocalists. Our beloved Linda Ronstadt suffers specifically from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She has said this in at least one interview I've read. PSP is Parkinson's related but is its own thing, a pretty rare disease. I know about it, one of my parents suffered the same. It's pretty terrible. There is no cure, barely any treatment. In the course of the disease, the loss of muscle control often begins with throat and swallow control. Hence the problems singing. There is little or no cognitive loss. God Bless Linda Ronstadt!

I saw Linda Ronstadt in the 70’s packed to the rafters at Festival Hall in Brisbane. What a fantastic concert, love Linda and the music she shared with the world. Forever grateful for such a rare gem.🎼🌹
I saw Linda Ronstadt in the early 70s at the Victoria theatre in London. A tremendous show that still sticks in the memory. A fabulous singer with a tremendous band . What a treat.
Linda's band for this tour: Waddy Wachtel: guitar, vocals Dan Dugmore: guitar, vocals Kenny Edwards: bass Rick Marotta: drums Don Grolnick: keyboards (e.g. Fender Rhodes electric piano, ARP/Solina String Synthesizer)
Man, I was 10 when she did this show, already had a crush on her and her music for years. My whole family was musicians, loved Linda, the Eagles, etc. So I was singing " you're no good " when I was 5
This was the point in her set when you realized live "this really is rock n roll, not pop." I don't think I've ever heard anybody fill up an arena and match the band with the sound of a voice. The voice was a freak of nature live. And she didn't work for that sound, kind of like a great Wagnerian soprano. It wasn't just loud, it was fat, filled up every open space. It was so easy for her. At the end of the new documentary 5 great singers at her induction ceremony to the rock hall of fame take a stab at "When Will I Be Loved?" Listen to them each struggle with one line at a time, including a relatively young Carrie Underwood, and then listen to any performance by Linda of the same song.
Exactly! I just typed pretty much the exact same thing on another video. I watched those covers and it’s so so obvious that they can’t come close to Linda!
I have seen her numerous times. But one performance in particular stands out. Greek Theatre in Berkeley - ca. 1978. She had just finished a flawless rendition of Blue Bayou and for a couple of seconds you could have heard a pin drop. Then, just a few seats away, some random woman let out a distinct sigh. Sounded like she would faint right there! Then the audience just went nuts! Remember this like it was yesterday.
Not only is Linda phenomenal, her band are superstars! All that playing with the Eagles, Andrew Gold, etc., made her even better. God bless her, my late dad loved her, too. He gave me the greatest taste in music.
When Waddy’s strap falls of in his solo Linda puts it back on. I’d have loved to have been in a bar band with her. Linda was the queen. What a musical dynamo ... voice of the ages. In a lotta ways she’s one of the guys. I bet she coiled cables and moved equipment at the end of the night. Probably even drum cases too. Me when the equipment is out the back door “Hey Linda, wanna ride to your car?”🤗
Music royalty ! The energy. The powerful voice. A stella career steeped in success. Her live performances will be recognised forever . She set the world on fire in her hey day & mesmerised her fan's every time she stepped out on a stage. Hall of fameer with a plethora of awards & accolades to her name. Real SUPERSTAR !!!
@George Espino. I love your description, ha, ha. I was working up in northern BC in 1980 and I had a poster of Linda Ronstadt on my wall in my bunkhouse room and a fellow worker attacked the photo cuz he wanted a woman so bad, ha, ha. Of course, I was pissed off he wrecked the poster, but when I think of it now, it's hilarious. She was so hot!
For those of us of a certain age the introduction of the CD was a revelatory time. By that, I mean that hitherto misunderstood lyrics could finally be parsed. "So that's what the (insert word of choice here) they were saying!" There never was a question as to the lyrics when Linda sang. Her voice was clear and pure, with more power than should be entrusted to any one person. I encourage those of you that haven't seen "The Sound of My Voice" special about Linda to do so. It will remind you why we were blown away so long ago.
Great performance from Linda, and a darned good solo from Waddy. I just about shed a tear when she helped to reattach his guitar strap for him. Who needs a roadie to run onto the stage when you are playing music with the sweetest person in rock ‘n’ roll history
I remember her sexy voice appearing on the car radio driving down highway 101 in 1978 and instantly making the day celebratory and I was reminded I was glad I was alive!
Amazing voice and tight band. Sad we will never hear her sing live again (Parkinson's Disease), but fortunate for us that there is a treasure of recordings. Hard to believe she suffered near paralyzing stage fright during all those years she performed.
***** Yep!!! I know from stage fright as a singer. It sucks, because the anxiety literally tightens the muscles in your throat that surround your vocal cords. It takes real focus and breathing to relax and just have fun and get inside the song....

agree with everything you say, except this 1st track was written by the rolling stones.
She is so good she can sing any tune: rock & roll, country, jazz, Broadway and mariachi🙅🏻♂️👏🏻
she didnt write all but a few of her own songs. neither was hers. your no good was written by Clint Ballard Jr.
Lets make more of this music🥰😍🤩
Phenomenal! At the height of her career with the best backing band possible! God bless her and Waddy and Kenny! Awesome musicians!
And Andrew Gold
Waddy lost his strap during his solo and never missed a note. That is what Linda was doing when she went over to him . Hooking his strap back
@@jarrellmckeithen7117 What did Waddy swap from the LesPaul goldtop to the black Strat'?
Dont forget Mr. Grolnick
I think most would agree that the Eagles were her best backup band. By 1977, when this was filmed, they were huge stars on their own.
I saw Linda Ronstadt in the 70’s packed to the rafters at Festival Hall in Brisbane. What a fantastic concert, love Linda and the music she shared with the world. Forever grateful for such a rare gem.🎼🌹
Festival Hall rocked
I saw Linda Ronstadt in the early 70s at the Victoria theatre in London. A tremendous show that still sticks in the memory. A fabulous singer with a tremendous band . What a treat.
Rate best female singers of all time. Whitney .. Stevie. ..Linda
Stevie is not in that conversation.
Y'know, there's two kinds of men in the world; those with a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who don't know who she is.
Mick could never do this song like Linda did. Such a voice. Such a talent. Miss her on the stage!
Plus she was a way prettier than Mick!
@@brianmouland209 she sang "Heatwave" better than the original Motown artist's who recorded it.
No doubt ✌️ 🇺🇲
Keith sang this song.
Where do I start? Beyond great. Knows how to pick songs. Smoking hot. Iconic. Waddy rocks. Still. Willie was right on.
Waddy is amazing. Switches to his Strat at about 2:40. No accident that everyone wanted him in their band.
Saw him when I saw Warren Zevon and he can do it.
and switches back to his Gibson @ 6:30
Great musician - too bad he was into kids in a bad way
Waddy is in my top three of all time!
Me: "I have to go to bed"
*end up watching entire Linda Ronstadt concert
always happens!
Me now. Lol
@@danhain5452 lol right on ✊🏾
It's 3.00am in Melbourne, same here...
Such a tight, killer band - The instrumental section of You're No Good with Waddy's solo? Yes, please, can I have some more?
Linda's band for this tour:
Waddy Wachtel: guitar, vocals
Dan Dugmore: guitar, vocals
Kenny Edwards: bass
Rick Marotta: drums
Don Grolnick: keyboards (e.g. Fender Rhodes electric piano, ARP/Solina String Synthesizer)
ClassicTVMan1981X is that Brock I thought it was Don Grolnick
You're right! Thank you for the correction!
ClassicTVMan1981X no problem..Big Sweet Baby James fan I know Don played with him also from 70s thru his death. Have a good day
ClassicTVMan1981X Thank you, I thought that was Rick Marotta on drums. World class groove!
Marotta is a great drummer, plus I love the bassist Edwards on this tour. Thanks for the list.
Real gorgeous muscle in that voice.
Keefe was right. Linda owns "Tumblin' Dice."
Agreed. They cannot even touch Linda on their best day!!
Dandy Don ". No. Can't touch that power. She's a blast
Exactly! I just typed pretty much the exact same thing on another video. I watched those covers and it’s so so obvious that they can’t come close to Linda!
Listen to her singing light opera. She was in a film version of 'Pirates of Penzance'. Gorgeous soprano pipes.
Truth!
When music was MUSIC!!!! Timeless, priceless.....
What a performance. What a superb singer Linda was and what a superb band. Go Waddy go.
Nice recollection! You make me want to time travel!
Bruce Dillinger lucky you.
There is nobody like Linda ! I’ve been a huge fan since a friend of mine handed me a record and said
Effortless powerful vocals. Believed every word she sang.
Linda just lays it down and steps aside for the band to nail it. True artistry!
Absolutely no one like Linda, love ❤️ 💕 all her songs!!!
Not only is Linda phenomenal, her band are superstars! All that playing with the Eagles, Andrew Gold, etc., made her even better. God bless her, my late dad loved her, too. He gave me the greatest taste in music.
Hello Lisa how are you doing..Linda's song's open my mind's so much and I love it.
A talent unmatched, even until today. 2024. And, it's not even close , in my opinion.
Effortless ...the range is mind blowing ....perfect...every note perfect...
I always thought Waddy fit this stage with Linda much better than the Stevie Nicks gigs.
8:44
Glad he didn’t drop it. That 1960 Burst is worth about half a million these days.
What a voice! No autotune! Imagine that! When music was music, and singers could REALLY SING!
Ms. Rondstadt, a national treasure!
Bien dicho!. UN TESORO.
Oh God, i was so in love with yer in thise days. Her voice and everything about her.
Had I been alive in the 70's and 80's she would have been my fav singer. She just might be now. And talk about cute!
I was born in the 50's. I had endure the lasting crush.
Concert tickets today are way out of hand...but this...this is a $1,000 a seat show!!!
Yeah waddy learned Keith's licks to tumbling dice and he's really really good.
The great Wally Wachtel and the brilliant Linda--music heaven
Waddy Wachtel
@@serenoart Didn't he play with Adam Sandler's band many years later?
I had a debilitating crush on her, when I was in High School, back in the 70’s.
You, and about 100K more of us.
Join the club!
guys used to get so pissed at me because I preferred her over Stevie Nicks.
She was so hot!
the roller skates
For those of us of a certain age the introduction of the CD was a revelatory time. By that, I mean that hitherto misunderstood lyrics could finally be parsed. "So that's what the (insert word of choice here) they were saying!"
There never was a question as to the lyrics when Linda sang. Her voice was clear and pure, with more power than should be entrusted to any one person. I encourage those of you that haven't seen "The Sound of My Voice" special about Linda to do so. It will remind you why we were blown away so long ago.
Excellent post Andrew, I loved the "sound of my voice", and the "power and entrusted" comment is one of the best Ive heard !!
No autotune back then.
Underrated singer she truly was the best in her time..I love her..♥️
Her song's are so good,How are you doing?
Underrated? Are you serious?
@@loboblue5441 I was thinking the same thing.
Nobody touches her.
@@ncrednecksreviews679 Exactly.. I think her rating is equal to her talent..
What an incredible voice, backed up by some great musicians!
Great performance from Linda, and a darned good solo from Waddy. I just about shed a tear when she helped to reattach his guitar strap for him. Who needs a roadie to run onto the stage when you are playing music with the sweetest person in rock ‘n’ roll history
What a treat it must be to be in a band and have a singer like her up front.
One of the greatest female artist alive. Should be in the Hall of Fame.
She finally got inducted in 2014
She was inducted in 2014
Grab the mic and let go. Ronstadt - rock and roll heartthrob and some killer pipes. Fine bandmates that adored her.
Beautiful but relies on her voice, not her assets. Put todays singers to shame.
Absolutely. And she sure had her assets didn't she.
Rock on Linda. From the bottom of our hearts and if only in our dreams.
I remember her sexy voice appearing on the car radio driving down highway 101 in 1978 and instantly making the day celebratory and I was reminded I was glad I was alive!
She's the voice of my generation lucky enough to see her many times her beauty charm and voice blows me away every time she's an angel in disguise
Love this song, and particularly love the extended live versions.
As did Carly Simon!!!! :(
Here she had Waddy which is why over 25 yrs Stevie Nick's always has WW as her guitarist on solo tours
I used to wait on her in Tucson( her hometown). Came in by herself, no fanfare. A real sweetheart.
Man she’s on fire! Always have and always will love her voice! Her beauty and charm
My favorite female singer.
She's from my hometown,Tucson,Arizona. She's done right well for herself. Makes us all proud
Linda Ronstadt, what an artist, one of my favourite artists of all times, the voice and passion she has got over years are unbelievable, thanks very much,Linda for what you have brought to all your fans over the years and enjoy your retirement life and all the best and love from your fan of a life time
Linda lives Forever...
Saw her at Blossom Music Center in Ohio back in 76. Great show!!
Parkinson’s is a cruel disease. My father also suffers from it. I keep her in my thoughts.
miss the 70's. music was great
Consider myself fortunate that I got to see her in concert in 1990. She had a wonderful voice and the power to deliver it.
This concert is a real gem. This is my first time seeing it. There is a reason the 70's were the greatest era of classic rock. Here's the proof.🎙️🎸☮️
No one could sing you're no good like Linda. And that wasn't easy
I saw Linda and this band several times in LA during the the of this video. They were spellbinding then and still are. What a voice!!!
I would have paid money just to look at her (and I did), but that voice--man!
Wow..Linda always professed to hate singing rock..singing in big venues...but she sure as hell looks like she`s having a great time nailing these killer tunes!!!
That's what I was thinking she was just a beautiful natural and breaks my heart to see her now but Thanks for the memories. Saw her live more than anyone back in the day.
This wasn’t that big of an arena. Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Very intimate. I was at this show.
No one can’t touch her!!! She was out of this world! What an incredible voice and talent to sing any genre she wanted!!!
