I worked at the Italian Villa in the early 1990s. The food was tasty and the adjacent comedy club had some good shows. I worked in the kitchen and served Drew Carey a plate of spaghetti. DC: “Is this mine?” Me: “Yes.” DC: “Thanks.” That’s not a sausage on the sign by the way… it’s a microphone (for the comedy club).
That was a Burger King in Morgantown and the motel that used to be across the street has been torn down for several years. In Lancaster The Italian Villa was a single family residence that was converted to the restaurant and a comedy club in the mid 1970's. The Soudersburg motel was originally built in the late1950's and the 2 addition addition was added in the late 1960"s .
My dad would take me to Dutch Wonderland as a little kid back in the 90s. I think we last went in 1997 summer. Cray theme park if there ever was one. It has a waterpark, pennsy dutch themed rollercoasters and even a gas powered put - put cars that kids can drive around a track! Man memory is a weird and fun thing. Always enjoy these Dan. Give us more Dead Malls too as that is what first got me to sub your channel almost a decade ago.
This is so fantastic to see. I live in Los Angeles now & miss the East Coast so much. You remind me of some of my NYC friends. Such a fan. Shall be purchasing some of your photography
Did not expect to see my hometown of Reading in this. The Peanut Bar is still one of the good, long-lasting businesses of the city. I laughed when you said it reminds you of Baltimore. If you followed Penn St. across the bridge into West Reading, it’s a night and day difference. Lots of nice little shops and craft beer places.
No joke, when I was there a few years ago that Plymouth Horizon was there, but it was sitting in the Rodeway Inn parking lot. LOL, i'm so happy it still lives
That's Jimmie Kramer's Peanut Bar that you were at in Reading and it is still in operation Mondays through Saturdays from 4 PM to 8 PM. If you have a chance, you should come back and see inside when it's open. The place is celebrating it's 100th anniversary this year. And the inside shows signs of that 100 years in a great way.
I started this video, then left to run an errand, when I arrived home (mind you, I heard nothing from the beginning until 8:34) I hear Dan say, "Looks like a sausage 👀...(Dale, "sausage?"), Dan, "It's a damn. sausage!"‼😂💀⚰
If you drove further down 23 heading towards Elverson, there's a real shitty motel called the Red Carpet Inn thats been there for decades. Still has a color TV sign out front. Would have been a good fit for this video.
Some of those places reminded me of an old Flip Wilson bit “Cheap Motel” with the sign out front flashing “CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP!” Actually might’ve been Cheap HOTEL, but that was decades ago, so…old failing memory. Same idea though…
Reading, PA. Taylor Swift was born and went to school in Wyomissing, Pa, about 2 miles or so west of the city. I live about 6 miles due East of Reading. James Caan (Sonny in the Godfather) filmed the movie Rabbit, Run there in the 60's. Reading used to be just a one horse town,...............then the horse left.
Hey Dan! I’ve been watching you’re live streams almost Saturday and missed the one when you were in Gettysburg. Gettysburg is my all time favorite place. Huge history Buff. The last time I went there was in 2021 with my dad a month before he passed, so it’s a special place to me. I’m mad I missed it
Reading is..interesting lmao. Not personally a fan and I avoid going there at all costs, but it definitely has its charm. Another great video. Looking forward to the live tonight ❤
As someone who used to work for them, it gave me Boston Market vibes. Some stores were painted in a similar color scheme and had similar lights hanging over the tables
I grew up down the road from that old hotel on 30, there used to be water slides behind that building where a new hotel is. It closed after a kid died on the slide if i remember correct.
16:22 was a burger king. it closed two years ago i believe. there’s also a boston market right next to it that has never been open lol. used to be a pizza hut
4:00 Holy shit, you found giant pumpkins! 10:15 Yeah, that's an 80's Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon. 12:30 Welcome to Reading, the city where I work! I don't work on that seedy stretch of Penn Street, fortunately. The Peanut Bar is the best thing on that block; it's been around since the 1930's.
Dan , your videos are VERY good !! I lived in Reading for most of my 65 years. I never went to the Peanut Bar because I don`t drink , but I have known many people who would go there and they said the food was excellent !! The only thing that they did not like was that smart-alec reporters from The Reading Eagle newspaper would hang in there . Reporters and columnists like creepy Mike "lard eater" Zelensky.
hello Dano.....loving your content for years. i just got done scrubbing myself after the adult arcade video ......and i still feel dirty. that was one of the most disturbing and grotesque videos you've ever done esp with the fluorescent Flashlight. .....eeeeewwwwww! like phonebooths filth and debauchery.......can't unsee it 😅 great work sir!
Dan: I love you; I really DO. But when you start singing I just wanna go jump off a bridge -- and hit every bloody girder all the way down -- to the floor of the valley. ARGH! Ah, that's sooooo much better! I finally got that off my chest...are we still friends, Dan?
Damn Dan you were so close to me! I been around all these places all my life lmao. The Italian Villa was also a comedy club..I went a few times. Reading is wild....definitely changed though the years...I still go there sometimes to do my dirt lmao 😂 Should have got some photos of The Pagoda but they close it at night, since always shady 💩 goes down. I hope you come around my area again... lots of hidden gems!
No excuse for no air conditioning in 2024, they're just cheap, and probably infested. Some ductless mini splits would be perfect in those tiny buildings. 10:20
Hey Dan bell, I have a question of a demolished place you explored which is Ame's Diamond point, did you notice a scribble saying "JWA" on one of the main beams because an old friend of mine wrote that on there due to boredom long before the place shut down.

Fully lost it when you started singing Reading Rainbow at the cop car flashing by. Great vid!
I LOVED that abandoned drive thru with the computer screen still on. It looked so eerie.
That ‘West Motel’ sign looks like it’s from the 1950’s, especially when it advertises “Color TV” 😂
That sign on that restaurant reminded me of the dancing hot dogs in an old drive-in movie.
Dan thanks for cruising RT 30 places , I always wondered about them .
When you get time come up RT 81 the miracle Mile , tons of shady motels

I live in lancaster and drove that way on Thursday, literally thinking about your recent motel videos as I was driving by some of those places.

It was a Plymouth Horizon. Same as a Dodge Omni. I had an Omni as my first car.
Me too !!
AH HA I was right. I knew someone who had that vehicle back in the day.
Glad to see Dan is back always enjoy watching his videos

Dan is Gen X so he didn’t appreciate the Cartoon Network Hotel lol that garage looked like it fell out of the sky
That 70's brown/peach/yellow motel ...is straight out of liminal land ...mighty creepy
This is so fantastic to see. I live in Los Angeles now & miss the East Coast so much. You remind me of some of my NYC friends. Such a fan. Shall be purchasing some of your photography
Thanks for filming in PA. I was born in Reading.

How wonderful! A new Dan Bell to raise my spirits. Thanks. Dan!
@7:34 An incredible naturally occurring liminal space. Dan always notices these interesting things.
That NEEDS to be a print for sale!!
He is back!
I’m loving these motel tours, seeing the unique themes and architecture. The one at 9:40 is my fav because the doors look like chocolate bars! 😋🍫
They do! I love the color scheme also, that's a great yellow they chose.
@@todd9445 Yes! I’d love to see the inside. If they brought the same retro design and color scheme into the interior that would be amazing!
Dan, this is awesome. I used to live behind the West Motel… what a throwback.
Your videos are great. Thanks Dan.
Went to school in Reading. Had friends held up after parties, cars stolen, houses broken into. All type shit.
I used to go to Dutch wonderland as a kid. They had good ice cream when I went. That was in the 90s so I don’t k ow how the place is these days
Some of those places reminded me of an old Flip Wilson bit “Cheap Motel” with the sign out front flashing “CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP!” Actually might’ve been Cheap HOTEL, but that was decades ago, so…old failing memory. Same idea though…
I've been waiting for this for a long time thanks Dan!
Love me some Dan Bell!
Probably feed corn. Love this tour 🌟it’s like I’m there too…vicariously living by Dan Bell, a man for all seasons.
Hey Dan, that car looks like something Norman Bates would have liked and drove 😅
That orange column shot was awesome!
These vids are great Dan!

My dad lives near Reading. The Peanut Bar reminds me of being a kid, havent been there in ages. Reading is a garbage bin 😅
Dan is a treasure!!!!
Oh yeah yer in my state!!!! How cute the very first motel!!!! I love yer vids Dan
The fast food place is an old Burger King. I remember the post my parents were stationed at had one with the same exterior shape.

Pretty sure I ate at that last place over 10 years ago, it was a Burger King. Great video Dan, thanks!
Luxury Inn...😂😂😂lol... with outdoor toilet.
Another day another motel thanks for sharing Dan
Yay new Dan Bell
Reading is..interesting lmao. Not personally a fan and I avoid going there at all costs, but it definitely has its charm. Another great video. Looking forward to the live tonight ❤
I avoid it also
That last place looks like a Burger King
That’s exactly what I came here to post 🍔👑
As someone who used to work for them, it gave me Boston Market vibes. Some stores were painted in a similar color scheme and had similar lights hanging over the tables
I googled the address since I live near. Google Street View shows a Burger King four years ago.
Can also faintly see a bruger king logo on the speaker 16:46
@@DustinWilson1992 Damn, only 4 years? Place looks like it's been empty for over a decade. Crazy how fast nature reclaims.
“It’s a damn sausage!”
He cracks me up😂
Reading is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
Awwwwww, cute no- tell motels 😁
Dan bell driving through seedy motel parking lots…..why can I not stop watching?
The reading rainbow is a chalk outline

Hi Dan, this is Nick from Boise love watching your videos keep it up.
you would think at the least window AC, cheapy whatevers you can just flip on when guest are there and leave off... all the time.
On that reversed sign you missed that the Italian restaurant was also a comedy club!
3:33 I’m from Wymondham in the UK. Pronounced the same.
4:00 Holy shit, you found giant pumpkins!
10:15 Yeah, that's an 80's Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon.

The Peanut Bar closes at 8pm, thats why it wasnt open when you got there
16:30 that's a Burger King!
The computer screen still on along with the screens on inside seems impossible.

I'm trying to get my mind around how bad a Reading "lady of the evening" would be....and the thought alone is traumatizing.
Dan: I love you; I really DO. But when you start singing I just wanna go jump off a bridge -- and hit every bloody girder all the way down -- to the floor of the valley. ARGH!

Jack in the box's West Coast.. I wish there was a Jack in The box around here liked them
Rent a room, go inside and make an ADR video... PLEASE?
So much of this country is a depressing abandoned wasteland….the APOCALYPSE is a process, not an event.
You are correct Robert !! The United States DID NOT have to decline so badly , but the decent people just sat back and let it happen.
Dan visited my home planet! Lol 😂 Welcome to Lancaster PA!
