Poor people have to live someplace. These places are rundown, but it's better than being homeless. Back in the early 60s my father traveled a lot for his work and we stayed in a lot of places like this. They were, of course, in much better shape back then. Hate to see these places in such bad shape.
We really need the cheaper , independent Motels a lot of them have been driven out of business by those big chains that are way too expensive now days.Small Motels will have good weekly and monthly rates for People that need it. I stayed in a Motel for 2 years, I didn't really have too, but I was working so much it was really convenient for Me, the maid would come in and clean a couple times a week.. It had mice when I moved in but I got rid of them.

That Days Inn with the police tape? There was a news article from December 2023 about a guy shooting a woman he paid for "services" at a north Harrisburg Days Inn...
As a committed lover of all things Mercedes Benz, I WILL be ordering that amazing photo print! Thanks for yet another wonderful piece of mental comfort food; all I need now are some oatmeal cookies, a glass of milk and a nap!
@@DanBellFilmIt It was in the grass area in front of the house. Mom's aunt and uncle got divorced sometime in the 90s and we never really went around anymore. I'm pretty sure it was only put in after that, because I don't remember playing on it. I have absolutely swam in that pool though lol
“There isn’t a Cadillac in sight“ lol!!! 😂😂😂 I really liked that little downtown building that was very old-fashioned with the curved windows! Fun journey!!
I was thinking how very sad and awful to live in some of the places you visit. Then I looked around at my 1959 ranch home with original aluminum-frame windows rattling in the breeze, hardwood floors that badly need refinishing and original kitchen cabinets that also need work & said, Who am I to judge?!
Seen a lot of these places with you Dan--but for me the creepiest one was where you saw that guy throught the window that looked like santa clause. I had nightmares about that guy
Hey Dan, just want to say how much I appreciate you and the content you put out. I never learned how to drive because I live in Toronto and we have pretty good public transit (plus cars are expensive). I love touring the more seedy side of life but often feel like a target. Your content is like having a drive with a friend who takes me to all the places I wanted to be nosy about.
Oh man, I used to deliver car parts, my favorite job ever. You've been on a few of my old delivery routes and I'm smiling every time I recognize a place I've seen.
I've never stayed at nor explored these places, but I always liked seeing parts of this state. It's just kinda cool seeing these places through someone else's eyes.
The 40 Winks used to be "Paul's Motel" in the early 2000's and was a well known place for lebanon valley college guys to meet their girlfriends for an overnight rendezvous away from the dorms
The bottles in the window could of been a cool picture. But lots of interesting shots here. Also loved the White Rose, looked very cozy outside at least.
I like the old adult stores tours you have done. If you are traveling towards eastern pa there are still a couple left near the ohio border along route 18 near the turnpike interchange.
6:21 that little barn decoration in the middle of the grass looks like it probably used to be part of the mini golf. Actually if you google the motel you can find some photos of that barn and the mini golf course
That dude also looked like he had something in his pocket that said, 'if you ain't shoppin, keep movin'. I lived in Anniston, AL, where these dudes, black and white, were plentiful. Even had a towel signal system (red towel: keep on truckin, blue, check in a few days, white, it came an ice storm; friends in low places explained it to me when a trailer park near me had the towels in half their doors (usually while the guy stood in an open door on the lookout most of the time he was awake (or at least every time I passed by to go home (trailers basically on the side of the country road I live; thank God ppl stopped flipping and giving names so County cleaned em out)).
Bethlehem steel closed down and the knock on effect took out much of the other light industry. The farm crisis was in full rip by the mid 80s. This is the first video of yours that I've seen and i immediately subscribed. I love the content because I'm from Pennsylvania and I'm nebby. Lol. Also, your sense of humor is fantastic. I can see myself watching ALL of your videos in the very near future. Kudos Dan!

My girlfriend and I (many years ago) used to stay at the Red Roof Inn (next to San Carlos),before it turned into a Motel 6 and a campground for illegals. I wonder if the Four Points Sheraton is still decent.
Take a drive through Jamestown, NY and surrounding towns like Gerry, Sinclairville, and Frewsburg some time. Jamestown used to be a center of factories for furniture, tools, plastics, etc. once upon a time. Also Lucille Ball was born there.
Great video Dan, fascinating places especially the one with the gingerbread balconies and rocking chairs, I would love to stay there and use the pool. ❤ Thank you as always and a great time mooching with you. X
That's kind of a creepy little town... I'm from Southwest Pennsylvania, a good many of those hotel/motel in my area, as well, but a lot are still open and operating! Love the vids!! 👍🏻😊
You know that the bridge you drove over at 2:51 has been damaged by multiple floods and is borderline ready to collapse hence all the barricades telling you not to drive over it.
The red roof inn...all i can think of is the location in Indianapolis that had a section of rooms that were themed for different "romantic" encounters. That part of the hotel was renamed FantaSuites. Thankfully the city condemned it, forcefully took it over and demolished it this year. It was so bad the office was uninhabitable and they brought in an RV to use as the office. I was not so secretly hoping you would be in the area and check it out.
Before they cleaned these type of motels out of north/central Alabama (I-20 is notorious for both lots of long-haul truckers and trafficking/'sleep camps'/Backpage meetups), I'd call em Smoke A Rock Inn.
Yes the place was a Bob Evans Restaurant gone bad. We still have a few up here in northern Indiana. Food is good I think also they are always busy, Evan during off hours. Interesting video. Cheers. 😊
I used to take roadtrips with my Grandmother and Great Aunt every Summer through the 1960s. We always stayed at the nicest little roadside Motor Courts, usually with a swimming pool. It's a shame to see them disappear from the landscape. One more thing that will be an element of the past.
some of the ones at the start of video could be cute places fixed up , but that Days Inn was really creepy and looks like something really bad happened in the room with the police tape ....

OMG I will look for that Cadillac Motel picture on your website. I have a red Cadillac and the motel sign would suit its space in the parking garage of my home 🤣
If I had to stay in one I'd pick the White Rose, Dan. The Relax Inn definitely looked the least relaxing 😂 and loved the "survivor inn" lol. I should try make a vid of our worst motels here. There's a few that ring a bell 😍. Stay well and amazing, my friend ❤

I think that restaurant was a Bob Evans?
Yes. Down on the farm.
I remember the Bob's Big Boy restaurants😂
bob evans....new cumberland...was open in 2017 according to google street maps
Yep. That front brick facade with the circular opening at the top seems pretty standard Bob Evans design. Such as it is.
Are you still doing the Dirtiest Hotels videos again Dan? I missed all funny horror comedy jokes about bad hotels!
Slices of Americana I never want to let go of.
I am truly loving these motel drives. I've never been to any of these but they remind me so much of seedy motels all over the country.
Motels with people living there and no cars in the car park, sets a bleak image for sure.

All those dumps, then the one cute old style hotel. Theres no reason for these places to be run down, theyre just cheap.
