But they look like great products that someone else could utilize more than me and if it gets people to look at rackmount gear again that would be awesome!
The problem with Korg has always been the lack over over arching vision, products should complement each other and work together to create something greater than the sum of the parts. I've always felt that they should be dreaming that someone would and could equip their entire studio with Korg products, I know we wouldn't be it should be possible. Instead we get this stream of random items with no unified style or idea, most of which feel like they were conceived over a weekend hackathon, which wont sell and then get discontinued soon after.
The Microkorg didn’t really need a sound engine overall, just modernized QoL factors, which this version 2 seems to do. The KingKorg Neo took the original, removed a couple octaves of keybed and the vacuum tube, i.e. the interesting selling point that distinguished it from VSTs. They actively made the new version worse.
@@the_glove Ehh there’s a bit of drive character but nothing drastic. Doesn’t make the synth sound like it’s being played through a Mesa Boogie. Point is, I don’t see anything in the Neo that would entice me to pay an extra $200-300 over what the original goes for on the used market.
You might be valuing the keys on the Wavestate's 3 octave keyboard a bit too highly. Then again, I remember how much Korg valued aftertouch on the Nautilus... a laughably high amount. But then, there were markets where the Minilogue XD module cost more than the keyboard. Sometimes they're nuts, really
It's the same synth in a more manageable form factor. Unless you think the cheap keyboard really adds that much value to the synth I think it's perfectly priced.
