Mr. Weaver, they are going to have an awful number of lawsuits. Most of which are going to be against them. There are like a buzzillion vocals that sound exactly like that. The vast majority of which were written before said whiney plaintiff. I think that the biggest problem with these people is that they really don't know how to sing. I think this may be manifesting itself in the need to start a lawsuit on account of the shortcomings and feelings of inadequacies amongst a dimwitted industry that doesn't know how to make real music. We should all pray that Robert Johnson doesn't come back from the grave to sue the lead singer to Steppen Wolf.
I think it'll increase the demand for creativity. If it gets to the point where AI can create any particular flavor of boilerplate, then artists who can do more than just mimic micro genres will be in higher demand.
What Rick meant by saying “they only know what they’ve heard” is that the listener cannot make new sounds without the creator to lead you in the direction to feel their art so they cannot even tell them selves what they want, but only what they already like.
would be dope if you did a bit more analysis on the Rubin situation, personally I think the good ear + decisiveness he purports to have is not something that can be traditionally learned/is easy to come by, which is kinda priceless
taste is something that can develop over time, just like a muscle. One of the best ways to develop taste is to go listen to a bunch of music, obscure or popular, that you wouldn't normally listen to. Most people don't seem to have taste because they don't get out of their comfort zone and are comfortable being spoon fed whatever comes up in popular culture.
There should be a better name for his title/position... like Sound Guru, Musical Counselor, Green Molusque, or something... but "producer" is/should be someone who "produces" a product, meaning he or her with such title, should record, mix, edit, play or something of that kind at least.

The thing about that Google Music AI is like all AI tools, they’re haphazard, janky and don’t work (or sound) all the time. But you have to remember that this technology is developing at such a rapid pace that it’ll only be a few years before it begins stealing and creating something interesting, or is integrated with some kind of DAW that allows it to use decent virtual instruments to make music. Musicians already have to fight tooth and nail for what little revenue streams they have, and though I don’t know exactly how this will be used in the future, it’ll be used by someone to make money without having to hire a real person.

I think a lot of people here in the comments, and you as well Weever, aren’t understanding how insane the MusicLM is. I get your comment about the sounds and some content being “generic”, but it’s not pulling sounds from a sample or preset library. It’s generating a stereo mix from scratch, within seconds, from a sentence of text, using a neural net that was trained on stereo audio files. It’s not like it’s running a DAW in the background (god forbid it learns how to do that). That’s fucking bonkers and an incredible achievement for everyone involved, while also being extremely concerning for us musicians. Basically, it devalues the act of going out there and doing the work of capturing the images, but to what end?? So, someone could say they got an algorithm to spit it out?? Other than grossly devaluing the work that goes into creating art, why would someone want to create AI music, art, or images?? Ultimately, it's all based on a data-set scraped from existing art and without the continued out put of real artists it will just become a feedback loop, but damnit if they haven't put the squeeze on actual artists for from what I can see no other reason than to say that they can.
