Geoff does everything, arrangement, singing, all the instrumentals, videography, editing, everything but the final audio mix. Ed Boyer usually does that
Thanks for this reaction to Geoff's Christmas release. This arrangement is so wonderful. I'm still wrapping my head around it. He and Kathy filmed it the day before Thanksgiving using multiple cameras on tripods. The audio is done before he films the video and he sings along with it in each position. He had the video uploaded to his patrons three days later. We know what Geoff was doing over the holiday! Love it! (Also, VoicePlay released their Christmas tune this past Friday also.)
Geoff always has worn two rings: a wedding ring and then a silver ring on the middle finger of the right hand. I believe he used to wear the leather bracelets on both wrists for quite some time. He actually doesn’t do green screen a lot in his videos. He had not done it until his Ghost Riders in the Sky video. (or at least had not done the entire process because I remember how irritated he was by having to do the rendering multiple times .) It’s just been him filming multiple times being very very careful about where he sits or stands. I know that he had Kathy in front of a green screen doing Zero the dog for his Jack’s Lament video. And I think there might be at least one other where he used green screen but I can’t think of what it is. Other than that, he just is very very careful about the way he places himself. Sometimes that means extra work. When he did I See Fire, he had to refilm one of the characters. The bow he was holding in his hand kept disappearing because it went into the frame allocated for another character. Fortunately it was the one time that he was not wearing any of the beards and extra hairpieces so it could’ve been a lot worse! In the behind-the-scenes for this, he is shown placing little pieces of painters tape all over the floor in certain spots. I believe that was so that they could move the cameras to the correct place for each new character. They used three stationary cameras for this. If they need to steady cam usually Layne comes in and helps out. (Specifically I remember that happening for a Man of Constant Sorrow and Ain’t no Sunshine. Possibly for his sound of silence as well but I really do think that was just he and Kathy again.) Considering that it’s usually just he and Kathy, that does show an amazing amount of thought and planning. I believe he’s probably a pretty much a perfectionist so that actually works in his favor. If it were me I’d have to go back and refilm 100 times. I don’t think things all the way through from the very beginning all the way to the end. I’m going from memory here so I might not be 100% correct, so somebody correct me if I’m wrong. When they were in the car I believe Kathy said it was nine-ish when they were starting out and wanted to be done by about three because it was a very expensive venue. Considering that took an hour to get there that means they had five hours to do this whole thing. That is great teamwork! Rarely do his videos have other help. Occasionally Layne will help with the steady cam and Tony with other help. All on the day before Thanksgiving!
@@janetdwre: green screen, he used some for White Christmas, but you're right - he generally doesn't. Just careful placement of himself, the cameras, and the lighting. With incredible results.
@@janetdwhe used green screen for Headless Horseman, a quick shot in Jack's Lament, and for at least one mini, Rawhide. Layne did the camera work in Way Down and Sound of Silence, as well as Man of Constant Sorrow. He had a different camera guy for Imagine, but I think generally if the camera is steady, it's just Geoff and Kathy; if it's moving, he's got help from Layne and or Tony. It's still amazing what Geoff and Kathy create.
No green screen usually for his videos. He actually films each version of himself for the whole song and sets up the cameras in a way that allows him to splice the video together. If you’re ever curious about who was involved, it’s always in the description box!
Yeah, for the most part, if the camera is in the same spot, you can record multiple shots and just have strips of the original video played side by side without the need for green screen to mask out areas. They actually did this in Back To The Future Part 2 where they had Michael J. Fox play as Marty Sr., Marty Jr., and even the McFly daughter (whose name escapes me right now). This is in the house in the "future" in case you were wondering, but done in other places as well.
As an artist, Geoff has so many rich talents. Personally, I think his arrangements are probably where he shines the most, but to each their own. Of course his remarkable range doesn't hurt; you have to wonder if anyone who follows Geoff will even have not just the range, but the agility and tone to sing his music. His really is a voice that only comes along maybe once in a lifetime. And to his credit, he does his video conceptualization, staging and editing as well; his team is typically himself and his wife, Kathy. Sometimes Layne from VoicePlay and Tony Wakim (formerly sang baritone with VoicePlay, now co-owns Pattycake Productions with Layne) assist if he's filming at Pattycake.
Two rings, always, and almost always a medallion around his neck and an apple watch on his left wrist. Unless he is too heavy into cosplay the watch stays. Until this piece dropped, I thought I had a favorite Geoff cover. Now, my favorite is whichever I am listening to. Great reaction!
The funny thing is that Geoff can turn ANY song into my favourite song, even songs I never liked before he sang them. I do like the songs I liked before his version a bit better, but picking out the most favourite is impossible
This is Carol of the Bells as you've never heard it before. Then check out VoicePlay's Zat U Santa Claus! Geoff does his arranging, editing, video, camera work and more. Final audio is by Ed Boyer who does VoicePlay and all the top name acapella.
Hmm, I never thought of the rings that way. Yes, he always wears them, but it was only in the last couple of years that he switched the one in his right hand from the middle finger to the ring finger. Your smart suggestion explains why 😲 Thanks for the reaction!
He parted it the other way this time, and there were easily a dozen of us in the patreon asking what was wrong with the picture... no, he cannot simply reverse it.
I don't think any of the clones are flipped, at least in this case. Check out his hairline and lapels, and the way his mouth tugs up a little bit more on the left side of his face than the right.
Geoff may not do it all himself but he is heavily involved in editing his own cover videos. Yes he has always worn rings on bought hands. His wedding ring and a ring on his right middle finger.
Geoff does it all other than Ed Boyer who does the final mix and his wife Kathy who told him that he was NOT going to do the song he had planned and was going to do this one. 2 rings a pendant of some kind and usually an apple watch.
Geoff edits, produces, arranges, and..... well, pretty much everything, on his own. All his music. Sometimes Kathy will help. Sometimes they'll have someone help with makeup. But all the heavy duty work he does himself.
I can't believe he and his wife rented a mansion to film this with the most perfect fireplace backdrop. Like, do they really have MANSIONS to rent in Florida???
Now that you mention it. He always uses his right hand when he conducts himself. So he did wear the rings on both hands on purpose cuz he did mirror #2 and #4.
Actually he’s working at making his clones more distinct from each other and so it is not always his right hand now. Sometimes it really is his left hand Earlier this year when he did “Unshaken” there was a point when he did the same hand signals with the same timing right next to another’him’. It almost looked choreographed, but it wasn’t intentional. I think he’s been working since then to ensure it won’t happed again. Personally I liked it but I think he didn’t.
Geoff has moved that ring to the other finger because it doesn't fit on the other anymore. it has nothing to do with editing or greenscreening. and nothing is mirrored, you can tell by his hair. he doesn't always conduct with his right hand, he sometimes has at least one of his "clones" be left handed to give a different movement in the visuals. the BTS of the video shoot showed Geoff in these exact positions during filming. 🙂
You should check out John Farnham particularly with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Always live . his version of the Beatles HELP shows his range and speaking of vowels. its the late 80's and help is second encore after a 2 1/2 hr concert It is a very long rabbit hole and with no 'formal' lessons he can sing over 20 genres and his band is incredible
No flips. No green screen. This was shot at pattycake studios. He does the video editing and all but the final mix which Ed does. He's almost a one man show with his wife assisting
This one was NOT done at Pattycake. They rented some house or mansion or something for this one. Many of his videos are done at Pattycake, but not all or even most. Whatever venue suits his vision and is available when they are. Sometimes a studio, sometimes on-location. Sometimes (especially his early vids) just his living room after his son is in bed.
@@commander.saavik Yep. Man of Constant Sorrow for instance was filmed at 3 separate locations on 3 separate days. None of which was at Pattycake Productions. Folsom Prison Blues was filmed at Indian River Correctional Institute in Vero Beach FL. Ain't No Sunshine was filmed at a house used for social events. Imagine was filmed at someone's house. Headless Horseman was filmed at his parents house. And the list goes on. Same with Voiceplay. They filmed in various places as well. Depends on the video and time period of the video. Hey there. i believe a while back, I mentioned to you that you should listen or react to the National Danish girls choirs. I will try so again, this time adding links for you. There are 3 different ages primarily, The DR Pigekoret or girls choir are 16-22, and I have included 3 songs by them. One in Danish, one in English and one in Latin. The Juniorkoret areb12-15 year olds and I have chosen a song in English, and another as a medley. The DR Bornekoret, or childrens choir are 8-12 and I have selected an English medley and a Danish folk song. Give them a listen as I think that you will find their levels of discipline good.
