The fact that Jared learnt bass specifically for Archspire and has such mastery of right hand techniques is... inhuman.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Dean said that he played guitar effortlessly and has a music degree.
As someone who went to music school as well, I am not surprised that he can switch so fluently to another instrument and just be super incredible at playing it.
@@omramoryth He's Berklee educated, I believe, and definitely an incredible guitar player, but a lot of the right hand stuff necessary for bass isn't familiar at all to guitar players, so it's still incredibly impressive. He plays like a bassist who's known the instrument his whole life, not like a guitar player who just switched over to fill a slot.

That bass tone is superb. Archspire is definitely a genre-pushing innovator and makes me smile to know there's still more ground to cover in metal.
Darkglass amps and cabs mostly. The Dingwall does also have a distinctly bright sound as well. Cuts through the mix like a scalpel.

Too many metal bassists use distortion of some kind, which makes their instrument blend in with the guitars. More metallic (no pun intended) sound is the way to go and makes it stand out more.
Great technical players but its just boring musically imo. There are way more fun techdeath bands around.

The funny thing is that he KNEW how hard this song was to play and still put himself through this just for us... what a guy.
One thing I love is that during the verses and chorus he plays these unique and complex lines instead of generic bass lines , and during breakdowns and guitar solos he matches his lines with the drum to double down on heaviness.
It's much more interesting to listen to because of that.
The part on Golden Mouth of Ruin where he just casually mirrors a crazy sweeping guitar solo like it's no big deal. Who the fuck even thinks of doing that????

He is a pioneer bassist. For any player of any level. His skill is incredible. And he plays with such feel which us nice against the super technical music. The bass always fits the part to. Gotta repect the songwriting skill

Legitimately what the heck. This man continues to push his writing to the next level with every release. Absolutely stunned at the tapping composition. He’s literally carving new territory for the bass guitar.
You should check out Charles Berthoud. He does tonnnnns of crazy stuff with tapping and slapping.
