  • The 2023 Nissan Z Performance ($61,398 as specced in Canada, ~$52,310 in the US) is the newest iteration of the legendary Z sports car; the earliest of which dates back to 1969. It has 400 horsepower from a twin turbo V6, styling inspired by its classic heritage, and for the first time ever - electric power steering. The new Z is looking to be a powerful and stylish sports coupe, capable of going head to head with its competition. Thomas and James give the Z Performance a run down on both the road and the Throttle House test track. We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!

    This felt like a really balanced review. Most (all?) of the "early" reviews of this car had presenters gush about what a great value this "$40,000" car is while driving the 50k version. It drove me a little bonkers.

      kinda similar to how the C8 vette was touted asa sub 60k car but no one bought it at 60k everyone bought 80k spec... but at least with C8 most performance bits were included in the base price (Z51 pckge including a very modest power bump + wing)

    Throttle House reminds me of Top Gear from the mid 2000s. Visually pleasing video production, humor thoughtfully mixed in, lap times, quirky hosts that each have their own distinct charisma. But what makes them so reminiscent of Clarkson, Hammond, and May is that they’re genuine friends hanging out, and we are there to hang with them by watching the videos

    • @PsychoCPU
      @PsychoCPU ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I think that's why all the versions of Top Gear since have missed the mark. The hosts aren't friends, even if they claim they are. You can tell there is a lack of connection, most things feel forced, which leads to jokes falling flat.
      Tomas and James, like the guys at savagegeese, are the spiritual successors to Top Gear without even meaning to, simply because they are real friends who are smart enough to not mess with a formula that works.

    Hands-down a brilliant review, you guys. For me, this really transcended the typical "show and tell" that hits the car's highs and lows without really getting into the weeds to become an engaging, detailed, brilliantly shot and told story about what the car really is. I know that we went through a couple decades where a lot of American sports cars were built by accountants more than engineers, but I think we've passed that time and American sports cars can go toe-to-toe with some of the best European and Japanese cars. Sure you're not going to get a hand-built Pagani, but you're going to get a really bang for your buck, capable machine that's not overly pretentious.

    Great review. It seems like Nissan intentionally targeted a few specific things they need to make it sell en-masse to justify its existence to corporate. They know tuner guys will swap the exhaust and springs, so instead they went for more livable and quiet exhaust and ride. The power and stability and balance make it a great road car that you can wring out at legal-ish limits without wrapping it around a tree. The styling is cool, retro, and subtle. All of these things make the Z a much more attractive sell to a guy who may have grown up with the earlier Z line, doesn't want the hassle of owning a classic, but wants to daily a "fun" car that isn't boy-racer. Those are the people who will buy new high-end trims. However, Nissan also managed to keep a lot of the excitement, attention to detail, and character that make a sports car special At its lower price point trims, younger people can buy them and mod immediately. And over the years all of these will trickle down to "buyer #3" and become capable track cars. I think the thing is damn gorgeous and should sell well, and I can't wait to see them on the road.

The icing on the cake for me, so to speak, was when it came down to purchasing my next fun/play car. I chose the 2023 Camaro 2SS1LE, near identical to the one shown. Rapid blue, 6 speed, no sun roof, etc. (ordered July 08th). Thanks again for a great, and extremely entertaining, video. @@1uckedout Sorry for the late reply. Texas isn't that far when you consider the number of reputable carriers out there. Obviously there's a price to be paid, but I'd shave a good chunk of the cost off the top of the price, helping you out if that time ever comes.
      With that said, I'm having way too much fun with this car! She's a beauty and a beast! Power, 6 speed Tremac, handling, comfort, braking, etc. Fantastic! The performance exhaust is to die for, as is the rapid blue color. I love this car. Yes, it's that good!
      Contrary to the online haters out there, visibility hasn't been an issue. Raise the seat, adjust your mirrors, and learn to drive! I'm amused how so many think the visibility is vastly superior in a Challenger. Can't see much more out the rear window of a Challenger. The view over the long hood, especially with the "Shaker" package, isn't an improvement either.
      Regarding seating position, it's as if people think your supposed to drive with the seat in "gangsta" mode, dragging your ass on the pavement. With proper seat height adjustment, the side visibility isn't bad at all in a Camaro. Yeah, the Challenger's side view is a bit better, but not as much as the online "experts" claim.
      How do I know? I own a Challenger. Go Mango, shaker package, dynamic package with 275s, adjustable suspension, bumblebee stripes, etc. So you won't hear me bashing Challengers here (or any other make for that matter). A different beast for sure, but fun and enjoyable in it's own right. Handling is actually excellent for it's size and weight.
      The Camaro, however, is a true sports car and so enjoyable. A car I want to drive every day. Once again, you won't hear me bashing Mustangs, Chargers or Challengers. They're all great, and you can have fun with each of them, but the narrow mindedness and sheer ignorance surrounding the Camaro, particularly the 6th gen, is unbelievable. Their loss for sure. Be safe my friend...

    My first car was a 79 280zx, followed by a 76 280z. I have been looking forward to this car because it looks like a proper Z. However most reviews say the same thing, its heavy, more of a gt, falls apart at the limit. So I bought a Neptune blue gr86 and it feels like the spiritual successor to my 79 280zx.
    Edit* as of 8-18-22 I have finally driven the new Z. Here are my thoughts. You can clearly see parts of different generation Z influences in its styling both inside and out. It’s fast but that’s a given. The suspension is softer than expected and if you want a GT car then this is your car. At 5’11 I would not be able to wear a helmet for track days so that’s a bummer as the seating position is really high even when the seat is in its lowest position. At its base price of $40k it’s a bargain but the example I drove was almost $54k and at that price the Supra sounds better and is quicker although I still don’t forgive the montage of fake vents. Plus in my opinion the new Z looks better but looks are subjective. At the end of the day I am just glad the new Z, Supra, BRZ, GR86, Miata, C8, Cayman, Mustang, and Camaro exist. The right answer is choose one, drive it and love it. I chose the GR86 which one did you get?

    YESSSS A 1LE! Thank you so much for showcasing this car, I own one and reviewers have slept on it since its release 6 years ago! I currently own one and everything you've said is true, best sports car for the money and punches above its weight.

    • @jamesmin2837
      @jamesmin2837 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Camaro was never slept on bro. Every journalist love it. Go back to 2016 and just look at the awards it's won over the years. Motor Trend COTY. C&D 10 Best for how many years. It was only slept on consumers who hate living with it. As an owner, you know what I mean. Shit visibility and crappy interior space. Doesn't matter for people who are buying Camaro as a sportscar, but it's not great for high volume 3.6 and 2.0T cars that people buy to daily with. Mustang and Challenger always won that battle, hence why they are smoking GM in sales, and why Camaro faces end of line.

    • @ScionCrush
      @ScionCrush ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesmin2837 We could argue day and night why the Camaro is failing in sales and we'd both be right, but I've only ever seen Motortrend and Randy Pobst bring up the Camaro after they review it, other reviewers do a video on say, say it's great, video gets little views and move on, never brought up in another comparison ever again, consumers don't know specifically what the 1LE trim is which is what I was referring, of course everyone knows about the Camaro and you can call me biased but I feel it's a car that should be brought up at every opportunity in the same way the GT350 is.

    • @jamesmin2837
      @jamesmin2837 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScionCrush That's because enhanced handling / braking doesn't exactly sell views. People like hits for their content, and most people don't care to hear rambles about SS 1LE. It's a lot easier to sell the latest Hellcat variant and C8 videos. Not only that, Camaro has ages quite a bit now. With very little changes, and there just isnt much to talk about. Mustang GT PP2 never got its proper due either. It's certainly never even going to be brought up in any comparison test. But Mach1 will and Shelby GT350/GT500 will because it is just more interesting to the viewers.
