I dont own and have never tried the Dirty Tree yet (although its on my hit list), but i do own the other two (and multiple other OD/Boosts) and while i didnt vibe with it the first few times I tried it, the Plumes has really, really grown on me quite a bit... I find myself going back to it alot... (If price and availability is something you have to consider, go Plumes all day)
I just built a plumes clone and didn’t have the diodes on hand that were in the build sheet. But I did have some extra BAT46 diodes… and my plumes clone (fumes) has replace the EQD Plumes. I also built a Green Russian muff with 2 toggles that have two different diodes each, and no clipping in the off position. So I get 9 clipping options. Pretty cool.
I am getting more interested in pedal architecture as I learn more. I am thinking of doing a simple pedal build soon. Are there any good online resources for building circuits for someone who has extensive experience with guitar wiring, but not so much PCB and component wiring?
Thanks for the video. I just ordered a Peper's Dirty Tree last night, then after ordering it, I found out about GUPtech and their "GrindR", which is pmuch the same pedal, but with a 33/Grind switch as well to change between their different EQs. I just ordered their "Mad Butcher" which is a GrindR and their "Torch"(an HM2 clone, sounds great when compared from what I've heard) combined. I can't wait to get it, I'll get it before the Dirty Tree. Right now all I have is a Joyo Argos(Precision Drive clone), and two Airis Effect pedals, a Carnage Drive(Burger Booster Limited Edition one) and a Savage Drive as well. I really need them as I got an Ormsby headless Metal V in D-G-C-F-A#-D-G(13,17,32w,42,52,68,80, what Ormsby put on when I told them my desired tuning and paid for the setup)
My 2 favorite amps with recto being my favorite. Depedning what im playing ill switch it up and i also like to blend them and another thing I like doing is blending a modded 800 with the recto. Only other amp I dream of but have never played is a vh4. Maybe 1 day lol
I find that the Dirty Tree is way too aggressive for anything tuned higher than F#. Right now I'm using mine with a 27" six string tuned to E1 (a bass VI essentially), and it's cutting just the right amount of flub. I also have a Fortin Grind, but I prefer the DT to it. As for the Ibanez TS-10, Tom Warrior/Triptykon uses one as well.
@@BaritoneGoatStudio 100%. In fact, I rarely have to crank the gain knob on mine past 9 o'clock. Any higher than that and it's all "cawk-cawk-cawk." It's very much a "mission specific" type of pedal which doesn't really lend itself to a wide range of applications, but what it does do, it does better than any other pedal of its type, at least in my opinion. As I've said, I've A/B'd the DT alongside a Fortin Grind, and I just like the sound of the DT better, mostly I think due to the added tweakability of those high and low knobs the DT has. One other pedal that seems like it could be giving the DT some competition is that Slamurai pedal.
If you could somehow get your hands on the KHDK Ascendancy by Trivium pedal and put it in front of that Stealth......I'm gonna say you will fall off your seat. I have one in front of my Stealth and it is hands down the single best pedal I have ever tried in front of that blue channel. I dunno what kind of magic that Matt Heafy came up with for that pedal but........it's AWESOME Great video btw 🙂 You DEF sold me on that JHS pedal. I'm thinking of running that with my EVH el34 head on one cab and the Stealth with the KHDK in another and see if I can remove fillings with that....LOLOLOLOL
@@BaritoneGoatStudio sounded great. I have the stealth and have been testing out a few pedals for boost and havent found the flavor im looking for. Im glad you made this video.
@@Mike_D_5150 yeah, so far I dig the Plumes. I may end up grabbing a few others down the road. The DT is better for the Mesa Boogie, and really thrives with super low tunings it seems.
@Baritone Goat Studio funny you say that as that is a pedal I have been wanting. I have a dirty shirley through front with gain way low...it's OK but imo changes the evh tone too much. I've also been looking at the steel stringer pedal with the ultra phonix... I love my amp so I want crystal boosts and a channel four with overdrive on the clean.
This was extremely funny! hahahah loved your sarcasm/brutal honesty. Many youtubers say the DT is the best, but based on your demo, it sounds very plastic-y to me. I guess it sounds more modern/djent-y, but honestly the plumes sounded WAY more natural, fuller, more badass. Thank you so much for this! Love your channel.
Yeah, sometime you gotta call a spade a spade. I want to revisit the DT at some point, since I have a couple new (to me) amps that might handle it a little better. I just tend to like more texture to my tone, and the circuits in the DT are very much geared toward cutting low end.
Yeah but everyone saying the dirty tree is the best is using super bottom endy amps like rectifiers....it's all about what gear works together... if you start with a tight djenty amp you might want to add some bottom, if you have wayy to much bottom and not enough tightness then the dirty tree is probably perfect
@@verysillypenguin that's a good point. I have an evh 5150 iii and some settings sound plastic-y without boost, let alone with one. I define plastic-y as ultra tight and mid-focused
Now I need to go home and try my Dirty Tree through my blue channel. That earthquaker sure is versatile! I need to stop watching pedal videos. My wallet is about to hurt again
Yeah Fortin had made both the grind and the 33. I think the grind was their attempt to capture the TC integrated preamp into a single knob, and then Fredrik from Mashuggah wanted a a modified version of the grind made, at least the 33 seems to be a modified version of the Grind with more top end.

Plumes for the price and build is probably the best TS style pedal you could grab if you wanted some thing beyond the standard TS9.

Plumes mode 3 sounds best, IMO, so much better than DT to me
Did you compare the DT in the TC mode?
@@chrissleventa2997 yeah. There are spots in the video where I switch between the TC and DT modes.

I find the DT to be pretty mid forward and easy to over-do when tweaking. I liked it the best for the lower tunings as well.

JHS is quite interesting
The Bonsai is a forever pedal for me. Not just as a boost, but it has alot of great crunch and bluesy OD tones. It is every bit worth the price tag.
