Awesome review! Every time I come to watch a review of a guitar I am always wondering what level of guitar player I am going to get. Hit the jack pot today!
Thanks. I try my best to cover things as much as I can. Answer the questions I would ask when buying something. These guitars are inexpensive and seem to be consistently decent. And this one does the heavy stuff very well!
I always recommend the Agile baritones. I bought an LP style 5 years ago for around $450. It plays better than guitars I own that cost more than double. I know the prices have gone up since then, but they are incredibly well made guitars. I've never played anything that well built at that price point. In my experience, my $150 Fireflys play better than most $400 guitars, and my $450 Agile plays better than most $1000 guitars.
The agiles are the original modern budget guitars. I remember when Keith Merrow played one and everyone was like… what is that guitar! They have some cool designs, but the prices have gone up. FF prices are also creeping up, but not by too much.
I'm just a basement guitar player I just received the regular scale model the elite of this same guitar black with gold hardware and damn is it awesome this is my 6th FFLP from them, for someone like me who doesn't gig and messes around I love these things
@@BaritoneGoatStudio anyone get the one with the floyd rose replica tremolo? I got the last baritone and someone said there were only 20 but I'll bet they bring more because of popularity.
Great review mate!, I totally agree with you. "you're not always going to get the luck of the draw", it doesn't have consistent quality, so you really have to lower you expectations.🤭 I also bought guitars like this from there, and it's hit or miss, (I bought 3) but sometimes you get some "luck of the draw" like my Chibson Buckethead which is really beautiful and the specs, I did not expect it to be as close as the original. - 24 frets - Killswitches - partially chambered (lighter body) - Ebony fretboard (99% of LP use Rosewood) - Grover Tuners - high output stock pickups - Gibson logo - not baritone (the only downside) I'm glad you had some nice luck on that beautiful guitar you got there.👌 Cheers!🙂
@@scentia_est I really hope they change that. Alot of people in other countries have been interest in these, I wonder how much of a price difference there would be for them to expand their reach. Unfortunately, the secondhand market is full of price gouging.
@@BaritoneGoatStudio I really would grab one immediately, even with the usual shipping costs. Hopefully they spread their shipping territory. Europe would be a big market for them.
@@GearStuffandThings the price on the firefly stuff is worth rolling the dice a little. I have had no real issues so far. This baritone is easily the most worth it guitar they make for me! Hopefully they offer more color options.
Well brotha.......Thanks for reviewing this one. I have been holding out, hoping that someone would put out a Baritone in a Les Paul Custom shape that wouldn't break the bank. This seems pretty good and with some upgrades, I think it could be a workhorse of a guitar.
I could see wanting a hotter bridge pickup, and locking tuners for the convenience. I am still on the fence about the tuners as they aren’t a necessity and more of a preference thing. I am currently liking the pickups, but I also have that itch to tinker, so I could see my self trying other pickups! 🤷🏻♂️
Looks Clean, Sounds Mean! Thanks. I bought my first Firefly, the trouble maker tele, and it's a blast to play,..sounds great and feels solid. $179. Loving this "Age of affordable quality guitars".
I own two FFSP's with the set-through neck joint and belly cut. Both are excellent guitars.....After a setup and fret level. All the stainless fret FF's that I have tried had raised frets that needed to be tapped down. All had one high fret that needed leveling and recrown. But after that, they are stellar guitars. That type of issue should be expected at the $200.00 price point, regardless of the brand. It's just part of the ultra budget game.
@@BazonBlades my first one needed some minor spot leveling, and it actually had nickel frets, so it was a simple task. The second one had two slightly high frets way up the neck that were able to be tapped down. This one I have yet to find one, and it was pretty well set up out of the box. Surprisingly the intonation was set correctly with the saddles being in the right spots on the bridge. Nothing about any of my Firefly guitars has come close to my threshold of unacceptable at this price point!
Just picked one up! They dropped the price to $220....still $248 after shipping. This is my second Firefly. I love my first one. I've been wanting a baritone and I have also been wanting a black LP style guitar with gold hardware....couldn't pass up the opportunity!
I thought the Firefly baritone is a Jazzmaster style. I really want to try one but I need to get rid of some other guitars first since I'm running out of space. I own a few of the earlier Firefly models and they're very well made for the price. Some require a major setup and some come set up pretty decent right out of the box. The pickups are pretty crappy. The tuners aren't bad for the price. The semi-hollow pickups sound pretty decent. The LP junior pickup is terrible. They've supposedly made a lot of improvements over the years. I haven't tried any of the newer releases, so I can't really compare.
The offset baritone they make is 30” hybrid bass VI style. So it is the longest scale you can get before becoming a bass. They can be set up as baritone guitars with lighter strings. But people still run them in the E1 and lower tunings. This one is only 28”, and it sits comfortably as a baritone. It could get down to E1 probably, but G and F# are comfortable spots for me.
@@jackbootshamangaming4541 yeah I just saw that one on Hunter’s channel and it looks very similar in terms of overall specs and build, I would be curious to see how that one plays too.
@@nagyiman not yet. Gibson hasn’t been able to touch firefly. Unfortunately the model has fully sold out. They will likely make another batch. They have a handful of new baritone designs coming. So far though they only ship in the US, I hope that changes at some point.
I too am into rolling the dice on bargain-basement baris and I came up with snake eyes on the FF338. I'm pretty sure the bridge was in the wrong place, 'cause it could just not be intonated. Cosmetics were top-notch, but it was damned near unplayable. On the strength of your recommendation here, though, I'm gonna give Firefly another try.
@@ShiceSquad if you get one like this I think it will be killer. I also think of all the FF guitars, they have their LP style guitars dialed in the best. Most horror stories I see are with other models.
@@BaritoneGoatStudio Good point, all the guys raving about Firefly on Baritone Obsessed were talking about the LP models. I got the FF338 'cause I was stoked to try a Firefly, but nothing else was available last time I was in America. These are obviously in high demand for a reason; mine must have been made on a Monday 'cause I'm pretty sure they got some measurements wrong. What kind of horror stories have you heard?
@@ShiceSquad mostly about the strats and teles with floating trems being misaligned, or the pitch of the neck being too flat needing a shim for the action to be playable. It had a stoptail bridge and the hardware and fit was good. So, still a dice roll, but avoiding complexity might be the way with FF.
@@wandersaroundalot surprisingly not super heavy. The first standard scale LP style I got from FF was heavier, I would estimate this is maybe 9lbs at most. It has some mass due to the scale, but it is balanced and doesn’t feel like a brick.

@@martinlahaie6012 yeah, I keep trying to get a bad one. I can definitely see where the biggest issues are for some of their models. Would never buy one with a trem. I mean even the cheap Jacksons with the licensed Floyd’s can barely be set up to play consistently, no way I am trusting FF to get that right. The problem is though, the ones I have received do easily compare to Epiphones or squires of comparable spec. And with how much Epiphone is charging for MIC guitars these days, I can’t fault anyone for rolling the dice on one of these. Again, I tell people to temper their expectations with FF.
