Whenever I have skin barrier/irritation issues, I just slug at night for a couple nights (on top of a heavy ceramide moisturizer) and we're good to go. I go heavy-handed with both, and yes we look like grease ball, but my skin thanks me the next morning.

I damaged mine SEVERELY and only recently found out about slugging. WOW. It’s healing so fast. The sad part is I am 25 and could not for the life of me get my skin to hold water and it was affecting me mentally because I feel too young to be feeling like this. Thank you for sharing 💖

@@rosem9989 I like Ceramedx for those days (Cass has recommended it time and time again) because it has the benefits of CeraVe but the texture is a million times nicer. But I've also used Cetaphil's moisturizing cream (in the tub, no ceramides + has niacinamide) with similar results.

Literally same! I have seborrheic dermatitis and the best way I can describe is it like eczema on crack + pain and redness so I use a cream that contains colloidal oat and niacinamide and then some cerave healing ointment under my eyes and the side of my nose. And it soothes everything

If I'm experiencing skin barrier damage, using 3 moisturizer really help. I think the redness and itchiness is gone in 7 days. 1st using gel moisturizer (soothing gel), heavy or creamy moisturizer and top it with oil or petroleum jelly!! It's really effective for me. I only do this at night since I'm gonna look so oily and crazy if i use it during the day.

My skin is currently struggling to heal after a rather heavy period with lots of acne, especially on and around my nose. Needed to find this video to help me because I've been having a hard time keeping everything from getting infected and it's just not healing properly. It's currently September 3, about two weeks after getting the initial acne, and I'm going to come back to this comment to edit it with how my skin is doing when I start seeing good signs after taking these advice of this video. Love ya, Cass.

I have seborrheic dermatitis which is where randomly my skin becomes red, inflamed, flaky, itchy and I lose melanin on my face for months. What's helped me is keeping a simple routine of cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and la roche posay eczema relief cream and I dab a little bit of cerave healing ointment to prevent any dry spots from flaking. This helped me regain my skin color & stop flaking.

Girl it’s so hard to avoid actives these days lol! I just started my tretinoin journey with Dermatica and my skin reacts to products I used to use with no issues so I’m like okay, I’ll need to switch up a bit. But then my order of Korean sunscreens got delayed as I’m on the very last of my last bottle. So I went to a drugstore and finding a vegan cruelty free, fragrance free and now active free sunscreen was literally IMPOSSIBLE. And now I have one that stings a bit until me beloved ones arrive again.

When I have irritation or even if I destroy my skin barrier cause I love trying new products. I always go back to the basics (cleanser, moisturizer, SPF) and add some prescription ointments from my derm in the spots it’s happening. I may look DEAD but my skin heals in the next 2 days.

When I’ve over-exfoliated, I’ve always had tremendous success with switching out my everyday Vitamin C (Stratia’s C+C) to a Vitamin C derivative (The Inky List’s vitamin C +egf), following up with some peptides (The Ordinary’s argireline and their Matrixyl), then a super hydrating moisturizer and at night, doing all that then finishing it off with an occlusive moisturizer, a layer of rose hip oil and finishing it all off with a very thin layer of petroleum jelly. The visible effects of over exfoliation seem to leave in a couple days rather than several days or week(s) in my experience.

HELP! My skin has become damaged by simply over cleansing. I’ve been experiencing this for the past 2 years. Although, eliminating fragrance and all harsh ingredients my skin doesn’t seem to get on with any cleanser. I end up experiencing itchy, texture/spots on my face and neck identical to purging (not purging as they’re basic cleansers with no active ingredients).
I’ve used all these cleansers and have all impacted my barrier in a negative way:
    Vanicream gentle cleanser
    Cerave hydrating cleanser
    Cerave foaming cleanser
    Khiels ultra facial cleanser
    Paula’s choice calming cleanser
    First aid beauty cleanser
    Koress hydrating cleanser
    La Roche posay hydrating cleanser
    La Roche posay foaming cleanser
I’ve definitely tried more but cannot seem to remember at this time. WHAT DO I DO? 🥺

I already know how I like to heal my skin, but I love your videos so much and I literally just started my healing routine tonight cause my bright self decided to try benzoyl peroxide again even though I know its irritated me in the past. usually I just didn't let it soak in long enough and it'd get around my eyes so id stop using it after a couple days. this time I let it soak in and didn't have that problem, but now I have a big red reaction on my face after a week or so of using it... I should know better but in the past its been amazing for my breakouts just always ends up in a rash/irritated skin or swollen itchy eyes....

Disinfect the irritated region. I like Povidon Iodine. Or just wash with water.
Use a soothing cream or ointment. Stuff with panthenol or centella asiatica or oat extract.
Keep it hydrated and moisturized. Look for ceramide, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, peptide, mineral oil, dimethicone.
Sun protection....just use clothings and umbrella. Mineral sumscreen if you're insistent on using sunscreen.

I always use raw organic honey as a mask and leave it for 20 min whenever I feel like my skin barrier has been irritated or damaged from over exfoliation or too much use of retinol. Honey is the only diy that I use on my face and yes it helps 100%.

I overdid it with products, got perioral dermatitis, plus possible acne. Isotretinoin orally has been brilliant. I like the Truskin vitamin C moisturiser, just not around the eyes, as it has essential oil in it. I also love anything fragrance free but I'm not obsessive anymore, I just avoid my chin where the dermatitis was.

Avène repairing cream helped me a lot, still healing my severely damaged sensitive dry skin, I use rose water as toner, then apply almond oil as essence/moisturizer base, then mix a pea size Avène repair cream with Avenoo moisturizers(I have lots of Avenoo ones, you name it), then apply it.. Sometimes I switch with a medicated emollient cream..I'm not using niacinamide/vitamin c serum at the moment, even azelic acid irritates my skin,it's beyond repair, so I'll correct my barrier & irritation 1st, then I'll use those.. Now it's a lot better.. I'll give my skin time & hopefully it will be alright by the grace of Almighty

Omg, haven't even watched the video yet but I hope that this can help save my life.
When I was thirteen, I had relatively clear skin but social media believe that "perfect, flawless" skin existed. So I brought cerave (benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid cleansers).
To make a horribly long and traumatic story short, I misused the cerave cleansers and within five days I had the most horrible tragic skin reaction when I woke up and I was so terrified. My face was on fire, it was flaky, swelling, puffiness, drier than a desert, it was HORRID!!
Fast forward to a year now, I'm still where I started. While the flakiness / dryness is gone, cerave left me with inflamed skin and my skin is always hot to the touch, the inflammation also led to really bad pigmentation that hasn't cleared up. :(
I've tried many products for my barrier but nothing seems to help with my inflamed skin and my pigmentation is just so horrible. I went from clear skin to 101 skin problems all in 5 days, and I hope this video can help with some tips for my barrier and inflammation :(
I tried DMing you on IG for more context on my completely ruined skin lol

The paula’s choice bha exfoliant irritated my skin and left me with a big round red patch in November. 4 months later I still had the redness, hotness and tiny white pimples so I decided to try ice because I bought quite a few products and nothing seemed to work but the the ice made it worse omg and nothing seems to help. My skin is hot, red and the area is filled with white tiny little pimples. Just got aloe Vera yesterday to try. Im stressed as hell

I'm a 50 year old man, and I suddenly started getting acne about 5 months ago; specifically on my forehead and cheeks. I've tried everything from changing products out (I'm using hyaluronic acid, niacinamide + zinc, salicylic acid and bakuchiol), changing my diet, taking vitamins (inc zinc) and probiotics. Most help for 40+ people seems to be aimed at women with hormonal acne, and I don't know where to turn for help. It's really getting me down. Your videos have been really helpful, but nothing is working. I've stopped using Trilogy Rosehip Oil and I *think* it might be making things worse, but I used to be able to use it nightly. Not sure if I'm damaging my skin...

I have been using KylieSkin products for years with no issues and i suddenly switched to the ordinary and cerave cleanser because it is more affordable and i wanted to try something new. Ever since I started using the cerave (cream to foam cleanser for normal to dry skin) and the ordinary hyaluronic acid i have red inflamed acne on my right side of face. I have combination skin and haven’t had problems with acne before. I did think it was purging but my skin has been bad for months and is sore. Do you know anymore affordable options i could try? You may want to see a derm and be evaluated for a skin condition like rosacea. That is exactly what my little pustules are like when I have a really bad flare (I'm dx'd with both rosacea and eczema, and I also have a connective tissue disorder) and I've had them last close to a year. Who goes to a doctor for a cut or burn or blister, unless I am bleeding out I just put on a bandaid and some Neosporin. I really like the liquid bandages. Too bad they don’t have anything for scars from surgery or stretch marks that actually seems to work. Blisters are nasty.

@@georgethirty4632 Old and new! Short story: I've always been plus size so I developed stretch marks already in my early teens. Then, about a year ago, I was prescribed a steroid at the highest dose and I gained 30 pounds in like one month. Then it turned out I was allergic to it and my stomach expanded to the point where I looked almost ready to pop pregnant. A lot of new stretch marks and very red, angry new ones. I've used bio oil forever but have never had the red gashes. But man did that stuff work miracles! Shrank them and now there's just ones maybe a shade off my regular skin color. Unless you look close you can't even see them anymore!

Not even the lighter versions like AHA etc … even those create reactions
    Then I get hives
Now the hives are in my face & neck mostly (that’s right I can’t put NOTHING on it no more 😭)

@@catherinedesilets8960 I'm also Canadian and in Dec 2014 I had mild hives on my chest and arms for a few days upon visiting the UK. The calamine lotion provided relief. I visited the doctor who asked me to research the trigger. I couldn't determine exactly what it was but I suspect it was a reaction to a food foreign to my system. Luckily, it cleared up shortly afterwards. I'm in the UK again and have learned it can take a couple of months to be referred to a dermatologist so I feel your pain. I'm currently struggling with a weakened skin barrier which has led to a secondary problem for which I was prescribed a topical medication. It is slowly working. The GPs focus on life threatening conditions so they are less interested in pursuing other ailments. If I don't see any healing of my skin barrier I will consult a private dermatologist which is quite expensive here, £250 - £400 just for the initial appointment and even then you have to hope that the one you get can help you. A clinic with a team of dermatologists might be best so they transfer you to the individual most qualified to deal with your condition. I don't know if that is an option for you in Canada. I wish I was back there because I never had skin issues except some mild teenage acne. I hope you get the help you need and that you get better soon.

Great video! I have been using Tretinoin for almost 6 months, and really struggling to find a moisturizer that is right for my skin. I have bought so many, but they’re just not good ones, compatible with my skin. CeraVe is too thick, greasy and gave me a couple pimples, I’m desperately trying to avoid. I want one that’s silky, not too thick, but not a water cream. One that gives my face a silky bounce, and skin lightening, even out my skin tone. And…preferably not over 50 bucks. I’ve tried all the drugstore brands, Olay, Elf, L’Oréal, Neutragena, The Ordinary, etc…. with no success. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? When I find one on Sephora or Ulta that has ingredients I’m interested in, they’re outrageously priced. I’m getting so frustrated. 😩 What is a good moisturizer, comparable/a dupe to high-end, with a lot of great ingredients, at a good price? I’m so tired of searching online, and reading ingredients every freaking day 😩

I've been doing tretinoin for about the same time and have found that the korean moisturisers have been the best for me, if you buy from stylevana they are super cheap and beautiful soothing ingredients without being heavy, and often have niacinamide and licorice root (brightening) ingredients. The rovectin lotus water cream is simple but beautiful ingredients, or cosrx, or klairs. I also use the la roche posay cicaplast balm when I've gone too hard on the tretinoin, it's thick but heals the skin super quick. Good luck :)
