For the farm area. I found building a medium crop field amongst the small crop fields gives a great look as the medium field has a farm house within it. If you put it in the middle with 1 or 2 small fields on either side, it looks like the farmer has expanded their land out from their house, rather than just lots of small fields in a row
As you have the fish farms and fields of potatoes next door it should become a fish and chips area. Maybe add a restaurant nearby to become the fish and chip restaurant served by them.
I can only imagine the time it takes you to plan these episodes out and it shows. How you've expanded on this plot of land flows so nicely dude. Palaven up to this point has been my favorite city, but Orchid bay is seriously giving it a run for its money! Po-ta-to, po-ta-to 😂 excellent work as always OE

So, on the M62 thing. thats actually a myth! the farm in the middle is due to the land underneath the farm not being good for that part of the motorway, so it was easier to split it and build the motorway either side of the farmhouse. The UK government always had the right to take property for projects - its similar to the US concept of eminent domain (CPP would be proud). anyway, the farmhouse lives on but not because of stubbornness!
Stott Hall Farm in the middle of the M62... that's an urban legend I'm afraid. The motorway splits and diverges along that vale due to the topographical issues of ground, not because the farmer wouldn't sell. I do love seeing it every time I drive along there (very frequently).
I finally caught up to the present day and watched this build guide after finding you last week when searching for cities inspiration! I've never watched a cities series but you drew me in. Your passion for the game, and the city, is awesome! Excited to watch more and contribute and as we go on to cities 2. Keep it up!
You'll be pleased to know that the enthusiastic importer was re-assigned to work in the Gradient/Fence Police HQ where his/her enthusiasm is welcomed. I threw down a barn to see what happened and noticed a small trickle of imports, spaced out 1-2 at a time to the new area. I also discovered that the Riding Stable fits nicely in with farming areas, although I wonder if the noise is a bit much for the horses. I love your how Orchid Bay is turning out. I've spent a lot of time admiring the city, the people moving about.

I saw a video about the farm between the motorway, apparently its not true unfortunately, they had just found the farmland wasn't suitable to build a motorway over (some sediment surveys found it was too soft or something unsure of the specifics) so they built around it and ig the original owner didn't bother moving since they didn't need to.
26:54 this is the M62in the middle of junctions 22 n 23 between Manchester and Leeds over the Pennines and is the highest Motorway point in England the Farm is called Stott Hall Farm. I’ve been driving past it for the last 40 yrs and it still looks the same as it did when I first saw it 😅
Another great build. Far more creative than I could ever be, especially with the minor use of base game industry zoning. To improve, I don’t think the waterfront road leading up to the tram terminus is particularly needed, and would remove it when the tram is extended to downtown as the city develops. It could be replaced by high density zoning, which would create some nice waterfront properties.
Never, ever doubt EGG. He can blend any combo of assets and make it look great. Actually turned out to be a good home for the poor, abused ferry depot.
Nice job with the ferry depot! Canals are one of those things that I feel don't work well at all in CS, so I tend to just terraform the exact width that I want and use quays in lieu of canal walls

The tram turnaround at the end of the road could be nice to combine with a bus only road coming out of that 4 way intersection. Perhaps changing out the sliplanes to create more room. From there you could bridge the tram road next to the other new bridge. It'd be small and might not be that significant but it could "bridge" the Lanhau district and Swank to the downtown and would be a great filler for that akward space. New industry looks great, happy that the ferry depot finally has its forever home. :)
You can use the old tran turn around in Asia Town to end the red line and start a new line from there to head over the river. Stops the line being too long and gives a use to the turn around you detailed before.
Actually I really like greenhouse in the farm area on the island. They so every rarely are used. Or if it was (partially?) an orchard, the lore could be that's it's for families from the downtown to go pick fruits in a somewhat natural environment
The farm you might be thinking of is Stott Hall Farm in the middle in the M62. Been there for donkeys years after the owner refused to sell up. Another great build Egg x
Hi Egg, just catching up on a number of videos of yours. I am really enjoying this series! Unsure if someone has pointed this out before but the farmhouse on the M62 wasnt actually a stubborn farmer, there is a geological fault that is oriented under the farmland and it would have made it extremely difficult to build the motorway there, so they went around his farm instead.
One of my favourite things about how you build is the connectivity of everything. You plan that out ahead of time and all the builds flow from one to the other so nicely! Really well done, a true master of your craft. LOVE this series, Egg! it's looking luscious! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I like the idea that the city was so furious with the farmer that refused to sell his land or give the rail companies the go-ahead to create a cargo station that the city created an entire rail spur line just because of him
Imperatur in one of their “cities skylines tricks” videos had shown how to place a road right next to a quay wall to avoid any embankments or terrain deformities. But I guess you probably already know it. Great build tho👏
If you switch the one-way cut through in the fishing build to a two-way road, it would add slightly better connectivity to the warehouse and Swank suburb. (Or upgrade the road the warehouse is on to two-way)
The M62 farm story is an urban legend. The ground beneath the farm wasn't suitable for a heavy motorway so the Highways Agency we're fussed about buying it. If they wanted it they could have easily got it through a CPO. The farm itself works just as well as an analogue for Egg; maybe the ground wasn't suitable so they let the farmer keep it
Thank you for another great episode :) I was thinking if we could make tram line road at some point to replace the walking key and become a bridge following the river shoreline? It would be an excellent view once the downtown is built.
Hi Egg! Absolutely love the series, can't praise it enough, and have been following avidly since day one. I've got a frustrating query for you! My train traffic is backing up outside of the map, near the cargo train hub opposite Twochurch, causing real train traffic problems in the area and meaning that lots of trains aren't getting through at all. Are you aware of any fixes for this?
I might suggest the training facilities become a greenhouse district from the farm and you turn the area across the Canal into you sport complex. It will be close enough to down town, you got a major road connect, train and space to make for parking, busses, and a large Zone for commercial. The greenhouse district would play into the green Cities organic food industry and could make something quite nice with it. Plus athletes are supposed to eat healthy
There is also a farm in the middle of Tokyo Narita airport, for a similar reason. No reason not to have one surrounded by railroad tracks and freight yards.
Loving the expansion towards the downtown! Would an apartment block amongst the European Suburbia fit in to that crawl in height? I think I saw some 1x1 houses on the borders of some of the larger parks! I know 1x1 assets don’t have the best rep here but bordering the park looked okay(ish) to me
I hate to be that guy, I always thought the farm on the M42 refused to sell its land, it turns out that the reason the motorway splits is because of the cost to build the motorway on that land where the farmhouse was stupidly expensive as it it basically a Marsh so would of been incredibly difficult to construct the road when it was built.
That's so weird i live in manchester (not far from the M62). Everytime i drive past it you always get the dad telling the tale of how the farmer refused to move 😅
Infact it be cool if you made a city called little Korea (and made the thing mostly out of Asian content creator packs etc) or in one of your upcoming city's you can make an extremely large district dedicated to Asia (and you could have sub districts in it that represent the individual country's like Japan, Korea, and China )
What is that building at 1:13? Asian, for sure, with what appear to be sunken plazas or lagoons or something. I don't see it in my Heart of Korea DLC or anywhere else but I like it. Thanks!

You should use the Watch It! Revisited mod. It'll allow you to easily notice issues like a large area suddenly losing power
