This is definitely my favourite city on TH-cam, which is saying so.ething, considering Verde Beach, Clearwater County, Biffalo County, Evergreen County, Ilos, Blightea and Sunset City. You are definitely one of the best content creators on TH-cam, and as I've said before, the most underrated.
Orchid Bay has to be my favorite CS build on TH-cam. Most other end up being either underengineered and bland, or overengineered and unnaturalistic. Somehow you've made a city that both has tons of personality, but also doesn't seem overengineered. It spreads out really naturally and is pretty dense. This looks like a city I might actually see, and would enjoy living in.
Hey, loving this city! Wanted to give you a tip when it comes to the train station: Place a temporary basegame station on the same bottom line, just past the CC station, and wait for a train to come in. After that you can delete the basegame one, and intercity trains will start coming to the CC station. Thank you for doing these more finicky, no mods builds. I play on a laptop with very few mods, and the tips and tricks mean a lot to me; I imagine console players really appreciate it, too!
Console player here, definitely appreciate the vids and comments like these. If this works you have a solution that will help a lot of people. It takes a whole community to figure out all the quirks and nuances of this game!
I might sound like a broken record, but this city is just stunning. I cannot wait to see the full coastline from the viewpoint. Watching the city grow from it's humble beginnings to the beauty it is turning out to be. I wish this city was real. It is just that good. I would 1,000% live in this city, and I'm a country backwoods nature kinda person.
15:01 I think that at least in the downtown the metro should be underground. I also think you should put a big fire station and start planning emergency shelters.
This is such an amazing build. The effectiveness of your transit networks and the organic way they sit within the city, as well as your use of layering to give depth to the city, has been very eye opening for me. I look forward to seeing where this city goes!
Seriously loving this city. I'd say keep the elevation for the transport. And to answer your first question, yes keep the tower in gives it a pop of height this make there area look good.
I absolutely love this new transport hub. Not only because of the transit stations themselves, but because of the amazingly organic plazas, green belts, and skyscrapers. This is probably my favorite transport hub on the channel so far.
That's a great transport hub build with the major plaza space. It looks so natural and the choice of assets is brilliant. I like the idea of having the elevated metro line being a dedicated airport express serving only the major hubs. Then using the underground lines to circle and cross the downtown island.
Nice episode! I love the big boy tower you placed in the beginning (even more with the korean big boy next to it). As you said, it gives such a significant impact and I think it will fit into the skyline. I would also keep the metro line raised until after the downtown (unless it stops there). Your work with layers is really good and this would continue this theme into the downtown. For the train i'd see which station is included in the downtown and go from there.
I just found your channel last week and already marathoned this series to get caught up. Absolutely gorgeous city you have created here. Can't wait to see how it progresses over the coming months.
Ik I'm late, but I've watched up to this episode of this series in two days. This is the most aesthetically pleasing city I've seen on a TH-cam let's play. It is insane how much it's making me want a next gen console or pc just to play this game and crack more than 9 tiles.
Sneaky serving of the Service Services Office absolutely has to stay there. Looks excellent from every angle, became a landmark as soon as it was placed!
ahhh!!! new episode!!! this area is coming along soooo nicely, everything ties together so well. i love happy egg!!!! the big service building looks amazing there too!!
Living in a city where the metro company is called 'Hochbahn' (translates to elevated train) I have to give my vote to keeping the metro elevated at least for some duration of the downtown area😄Embanking it or sinking it into a gully would probably be nice too, but I feel the network lacks some details that make it stand out among taller buildings when placed flat on the ground - like the train or tram tracks do. Also definitely keep the Servicing Services office in that spot, it fills so many viewpoints with interest it's definitely worth it! Very cool transport hub build, looking forward to the walking ants once more parts are in and this is getting even busier. I guess I need to go figure out what to do in my build-along, for some reason the networks crossing the bridge are much further apart that in Orchid Bay 🤔😆
Great build once again . Best vanilla city builder . Even though the european suburbia looks great , a small area of higher density housing wouldn't hurt i think . Maybe a block of wall to wall residential ?
Love the build, my only question is how will buses get there? Presumably in the future you'll want buses coming in, especially from the bus highway nearby, maybe consider making one of the pedestrian roads adjacent to the city services building a bus pedestrian road so that in future buses can get of the expressway and converge at the hub.
Hi Egg, at 26:03, your couplet system becomes a bridge quite a ways before bridging over the railroad. You can push back your terraforming there and include a local road connection under the couplet to the other side of the couplet. It would help increase the connectivity to whatever will lie on the other side of the couplet.
The metro should head underground as it heads into the new tile. Perhaps tying it, at least story-wise, to the way modern tunnels are done for metro with car/tunnels alongside it as well for service vehicles.
I think elevated metro is cool. Perhaps you could run it along an embankment like you did with the trams in Noob Yolk towards the end. And maybe the trains could go in a ditch for more of the city too?
It really feels like you get better and better with each city. It also inspires me to keep playing. To answer your questions from the episode, the Servicing building looks great, and if you can find a way to keep the train and metro elevated without it looking too weird, that would be ideal.
Always inspiring. Don't know if you amend it later in the episode, but at 9:04 have the angle of the ped road go to the right instead of the left. It would mirror the road on the south side of the plaza coming from the subway station. Just a thought.
I'd love for you to keep the build just as is, the layers look amazing and the big buildings fit right in. This build actually got me thinking about my own city and what to do in a second, grittier downtown that has been rolling around in my head for a while but I needed inspiration. And now I've got it!!! Thank you for that! The fencing alongside the road honestly was my favourite detail you added, just looks so good! I didn't know about the inter-city train thing at all, so that's good that you explained that here. Loved it, Egg, wonderful work and so happy to hear you so happy about your build!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A hint for those metro (and monorail) stations that are half a unit offset from the grid: To create a second grid that's also offset by half a square (without mods), you can have two diagonals leave at 45° from a temp road, spaced an odd number of squares apart (45° is easy when using the grid) like so: .../...\... They will intersect at half a square offset from your regular grid. Do that twice on the same road, delete the inner two diagonals and connect the intersections. Presto, road that's parallel, but offset by some number of squares plus one half.
Another great build OE, I was thinking might be a cool idea to start a little cycle highway leading from the intercity stations that either follow the train lines or possibly the road networks by the the waterfront. Love the placement of that corner metro too! Thanks for another great episode dude!
It’s a pity that the cycling highway ends and doesn’t continue into downtown. Cycling next to motor vehicles is really not comfortable. It would be great if you consider attaching every sub-centre of the city to the cycling path network.
I am very impressed with your building techniques in vanilla Skylines. I would take the metro underground to save space in the downtown area. Otherwise, you will have to take in consideration of the line snaking through the area.
The metro and rail stations should be considerably closer to each other as people have to make different connections and change trains and such. The plaza looks excellent, but the two stations should be much closer to each other.
I am really liking the look of the one-or-two self-important towers scattered in the mid-density, it feels very realistic. As for the networks, I would keep the raised metro raised and on its way to the next island - let it be more linear to the underground's loop. The train lines, however, I'd bring back down to ground alongside the existing track (or pull them both up onto a levy to keep them from flooding out and provide tunnel/mini-bridge opportunities.)
Love these videos -it’s so relaxing as I wined down for bed. I look forward to new videos Recommendation : I would say leave the train rails elevated as you enter the skyline .. gives me Chicago feelz with our L train into the loop .
Love how you do the transit hubs. Need to better figure out how to make them. Loved watching this. Thanks! And love the look of the building placed in there at the beginning.
I love the severe terraforming sometimes. It keeps the road separate, like, yes, it's right next to a neighborhood, but it's not really meant to connect to that neighborhood. Also nice with height differences. Definitely not commenting as I watch the episode.....
It's amazing to see a city like this -- in vanilla no less! I can't wait to see how it continues to develop, especially once the nightlife areas are put in. Will there be a bus connection to the transit hub? it seems like the bus and the trams are the only ones not quite linked in there, and a shuttle between the hub and the proper bus hub might make some sense.
I've had so much fun following you and your build and have learnt alot! this is such a great series to follow to learn new ways to design and manage your own city and im looking forward to putting these into practice on my own city build =) i have slightly more traffic but still massive amounts of walkability in my city, really enjoyed following you on this build keep it up buddy.
I love this transit hub. For the continuation, I would keep the metro elevated and let the trains go to grade (ground level). This is likely because I live in New York where third rails at ground level are okay, but in the neighboring state of Connecticut they are forbidden, and overhead catenary is used. Still cant get over how awesome this city is. Excellent planning and asset placement and a strong public transit network makes this such a good city. Cant wait to see what Egg has planned for this city in the next episodes. PS. at 15.05 you can see that the road clips onto the train track so that could be fixed in the future maybe.
Neat! Love that train station. Took me over a week of fiddling to get it just right in my City for them to release a Remastered CS. Now I have to do it all over again lol.
Really great build. Servicing services office placement is perfect. I wonder if the use of pedestrian roads makes the AI prefer walking more than paths in a bit of an overpowered way (not bad for the sim though!). Probably could've done with a block or two of some apartments on the edge of that suburb closest to the hub, some of the smaller green cities townhouses or something.
Servicing service office lools great! I think it would be nice if the elevated train track went down to earth going parallell with the intercity tracks to get to a terminus station in downtown, and to keep the metro elevated
You should turn the bridge connecting to bus only lanes into bus only bridge, few useless vehicles are visible, Beautiful City anyways, very excited for upcoming progression
The skyscraper's top notch like almost everything in Orchid Bay. I would't place train stations so close together, I think trains are more a long distance travel thing.
EXCITED FOR HIGH DENSITY!!!! Also happy to see egg appreciating Level 3 assets 😂 . I think creating an asian or indian subcontinent themed high density city will be new and challenging. Gotta say, the high-rise unique building looks great where it is. Also, it's good to know that the platforms for intercity trains are random, I just placed that glass station with elevated metro and had I not seen this, I'd probably never have got intercity trains there. Bit of a shame how it works as I actually have two platforms I want to receive intercity trains, but I guess that's how the game works. Maybe they could make it so you can select what tracks you want to have it?
Oh yes, a wonderful, amazing, great transport hub, with a lot of walking... Need to have the bicycle highway connected in and it will be more than perfect! :)
When creating this city, do you have some inspiration in mind in real life? Like did you see some cities or districts and decide to make them in game? When it comes to me, I struggle to create something other than grid or weird winding roads... I thought about taking whatever is in the real world and trying to reproduce it in game but when I see the amount of details on Google map I start shaking lol.... Great work on a vanilla city!
Also forgot to add that the intercity train line when it gets into downtown should be elevated. Run it alongside the metro for part of the way and when you dip the metro, elevate the train line like an overpass, it'd look cool
I want to say sink the metro so you can use the sunken metro plaza but it might be an interesting challenge to not use it. Perhaps combining some of the new Plazas compact metro stations with the massive financial districts plaza would create an interesting space I’ve not seen before
This is definitely my favourite city on TH-cam, which is saying so.ething, considering Verde Beach, Clearwater County, Biffalo County, Evergreen County, Ilos, Blightea and Sunset City. You are definitely one of the best content creators on TH-cam, and as I've said before, the most underrated.

Who does sunset city? I know all the others but I don't recognise that one?

Thank you mate, thats very generous of you to say. Means a lot that Orchid Bay is above all those amazing builds for you! Appreciate the support bro ❤

Cheers mate, thats really kind of you to say. Thank you for the support
Also, as a Chicago-resident, with our elevated tracks, I'm a huge fan of the elevated metro and trains going in between downtown buildings.
Hey, loving this city! Wow! You placed the service building and I thought "Noo, that's too big too soon.." but you filled everything in so beautifully. Masterful work Egg💙
This is such an amazing build. The effectiveness of your transit networks and the organic way they sit within the city, as well as your use of layering to give depth to the city, has been very eye opening for me. I look forward to seeing where this city goes!

I am consistently blown away at just how beautiful and natural you manage to make this city look, i wish i had half your skill.
The double metro station on the angle looking into the plaza is just perfect! Loving the pops of height and asset selection - don't change a thing!

such a beautiful city, but pleaseeee build a walking path to the main road from the residential cul-de-sacs you built, they have to walk so far!!
I have started a new city after a 6 month or so hiatus, and this series is genuinely super helpful for inspiration. Keep it up!
Glad to hear mate! Hope all is well in Phoenix 🌵
My first thought when you were putting the tower in was "no". But then when you showed it from those angles... Yep. This is why I watch your videos 😁
That view coming out the metro ❤ this is going to be one of my top 3 places to sit and watch
I think elevated metro is cool. Perhaps you could run it along an embankment like you did with the trams in Noob Yolk towards the end. And maybe the trains could go in a ditch for more of the city too?

The metro could be on an elevated hill, like you did the tram-line in the Noobs Guide :-)
.... oh and how is the trafic flow in the city?
Yourself, city planner plays and biffa are my top 3 cs TH-camrs. Yous all inspire me to do better!
A good idea for braking up the future grid is to make some of it rounded like a round city center
You're a pro, Egg! Amazing to see what you are able to accomplish in Vanilla Cities. Thanks for the ongoing inspiration!!
I'm noticing the lack of highway infrastructure. Refreshing!
That plaza, yes please loving the openness and the corner of Korea 👏
I love this transit hub. For the continuation, I would keep the metro elevated and let the trains go to grade (ground level). This is likely because I live in New York where third rails at ground level are okay, but in the neighboring state of Connecticut they are forbidden, and overhead catenary is used. Hence the commuter trains on the New York - Connecticut line will change from third rail to catenary (or vice versa) on the move which is joy to watch if one knows where to be.

Had a long day at work, your video really brightened it up
Neat!
Love that train station. Took me over a week of fiddling to get it just right in my City for them to release a Remastered CS. Now I have to do it all over again lol.
Can we petition all governments of the world in the hope that Orchid Bay gets built? I'd move there today!
The layers of height with metro and train is super spicy. It blends so nicely :)
I am 100% satisfied and loving your city. Its given me so much inspiration, amazing content as always!!
I bloody love this series! Always look forward to the next episode.
My man Egg killing it once again… Amazing brother!!!
Your reaction at 20:37 is SO funny. 😂😂😂 I laughed so loudly.
Why do you tend to use above ground metro lines instead of underground?
Servicing service office lools great!
I think it would be nice if the elevated train track went down to earth going parallell with the intercity tracks to get to a terminus station in downtown, and to keep the metro elevated
That tower is perfect! Please keep it. Also, the elevated metro looks great!
Pls leave the big building there.. it got have character and charisma anywhere you look at it 🥰
Yes, the office stays. Really fits into this EPIC build! Good job egg! And thanks for the good videos! Lots of love from me ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love to you too bro, thanks for watching
You should turn the bridge connecting to bus only lanes into bus only bridge, few useless vehicles are visible, Beautiful City anyways, very excited for upcoming progression
I think you should keep the metro elevated. Maybe shout out chicago's L and Czardus when you name the stations or lines?
Think downtown Singapore would be a great example to follow. Marina Bay area
With the metro I would keep it elevated until you get into the main downtown area and then have it dip underground.
I am looking forward to build a high density build with a overground metro or mono running through them.
You are the best egg. I always wait for notification of your new video.

After that sales pitch, I think it's pretty hard to argue against the tower staying where it is 😂👌
Do you have planned to use more of the hearts of Korea pack in your city? Like an Korean town district or something in that way
For sure!
Best city ever 😮 I’m in love with this series
Can't wait to see the high density stuff.
I have been waiting on this for a long while!👏
Definitely looks organic and natural.
I want to say sink the metro so you can use the sunken metro plaza but it might be an interesting challenge to not use it. Perhaps combining some of the new Plazas compact metro stations with the massive financial districts plaza would create an interesting space I’ve not seen before
I think your the best city builder, because even with vanilla I think in looking at Google earth when I see one of you cities
Building placement works
Amazing series! I’m looking forward to the next episode!
